One day Ophelia decides to attend a ball, the bane of her existence, in order to get another glimpse of the handsome Duke Claudio.

However, Ophelia quickly becomes overwhelmed by the lies the nobles all around her are telling, and in her disoriented state makes a fool of herself right in front of Duke Claudio. In a twist of fate, this reveals her special ability to Claudio, who hates liars more than anything, and he recruits Ophelia to join the Ministry of Justice where he just so happens to be the Director. There she’s roped into investigating a series of mysterious incidents. Will her unique group of coworkers help her get through her new job safely?!

Ugh. Yet another MC h where her milk “shake” brings all the boys to her yard, or at least makes them all highly positive of her and want to help and protect her.

First, the siscon was so OTT, but then he completely disappears once she gets the new job? With how obsessed he was, there was no way that plot point should had just dropped off the face of the earth.

Second, the MC H is like 29 and she is a VERY sheltered 19 year old. See, she starts to shake uncontrollably when she is around something “wrong” or hears a lie, so her family kept her secluded in their house and also apparently never told her about the real world, because ignorant girls who cry all the time and need to be protected are the best?

Luckily, our Main Squeeze DETESTS lies, so ONLY hires people who don’t lie and NATURALLY he NEVER lies either!

And he has a thing for younger girls who have tears in their eyes a lot. Ew.

Third, we had the “third wheel, never had a chance in heck with the MC h” love interest. I actually liked him better than the MC H, but this was a sinking ship that was on flames imho.

And COME. ON. The Big Secret with Gian was SO obvious! Anytime he’s around, our little mousy MC h starts to shake uncontrollably, I wonder WHY?!? Could it be HE is really a SHE PRETENDING to be a HE?! Yes, yes it is.

The “big reveal” was too late into the book it was just a big dud. It was almost insulting to the reader to leave it that long actually.

This book wasn’t bad, but it annoyed me the entire time I read it and I should have just DNF’d it when I first considered it.

2, waste of my time and money, stars.

Giving this 3.5! I'm still not sure what to make of it, but it's a stupidly entertaining story. Sometimes, that's all I need in a turn-off-my-brain pastime read.
