Buried Current

Rate this book
The quiet village of The Forks Plantation, Maine, is a haven for tourists and locals alike—until greed and a thirst for power threaten to destroy it.

Kelsea Grant is still figuring out her life, but one thing is her family’s camp in The Forks will always be her refuge. When an energy company with a history of exploiting Mainers proposes a nuclear power project in the north woods, the promise of cheap energy and economic revival soon gives way to suspicion.

As Kelsea digs deeper, she begins to fear what the venture’s aftermath could mean for the place she loves most. Nature, industry, and even lives may be at risk—but with evidence scarce and danger closing in, she’s running out of time and allies.

Haunted by heartbreak and past tragedy, Kelsea must uncover the truth before her home—and maybe even her life—is lost forever.

I am a farmer and freelance writer specializing in informative articles and website content. A former history teacher, I now devote my time to my farm and my writing when the farm allows. I live on Eden Farm in Athens, Maine with her husband Joe and our son Joey.

I have been freelance writing since 2009 as a way to make a little extra cash. Almost all of my work has been non-fiction and research-based. I never thought I could write fiction, but a few summers ago I got a great idea after hearing a story about a family member. I had an "itch" to write about it, so I started to put it to paper. I gave up after a while, lacking confidence in my abilities.

Months later, I met a woman who changed my life! She is a "real" author...like she does it for a living! She encouraged me to keep going with my story, and I saw it through. I was shocked that people (even the ones I wasn't related to) liked my book! I am so grateful that I took the plunge into fiction and for where my writing has taken me.

This book was such a good read! I ended up finishing it in a single day because it was so hard to put down! As a Mainer, I could completely relate to the main character’s love for her camp in the northern Maine woods along the river. Reading it in March had me dreaming about those quiet summer days in Maine, being by the water, surrounded by the woods. The mystery/thriller element of the story kept me hooked the entire time. What made it even more interesting was how realistic it felt. The idea of big companies taking advantage of small towns, local communities, and Maine’s rural landscapes made the story feel like something that could truly happen.
