Dnf. Gave it until 47%, but just couldn't make myself finish.
The girl, Lauren, is a completely unrelatable snob that loves her ivory tower. If you were on the run from people who have killed your spouse, and have already made multiple attempts on your life, would you care where you slept as long as you were safe? Lauren does. She can't believe the agent would make her stay at a motel, after all he must have looked into her financials and seen she was rich. Same with eating at a roadside diner- she'd rather go hungry.
Another issue I have with Lauren is the fact that the supposed love of her life, whom she defied her parents' wishes for, isn't even cold in the ground and she is getting it on with someone else. I feel sorry for the guy, yeah he was involved in some illegal crap but it was his trying to get out of the business for his wife's sake that killed him. What does this make Lauren think? 'I should have listened to my father and married someone who was 'old money'.
The extreme 'old money' prejudice is unbelievable. You should only mix with people that have family money! No, someone who made their money on their own is not acceptable. Yes, I love when the book inadvertently alienates the reader based on social position. Could go on more, but it isn't worth my time.

Do not know why I was surprised that once I started this novel (only was going to start it) that as I was under its control, the next thing I know I am at the end. Dangerous to say the least that one author can do that with the gift of words that they wrap you up with the characters and the story they tell that it is also a good thing I alone was safe from harm. Not so with these characters because thanks to dangerous dealings it has killed and endangered thanks to power and the hunger for it, a innocent caught in the crossfire. Hero to the rescue (chivalry alive and well here) with the delicious net of love cast over two while they are trying to stay alive. So with this thriller I got the treat of my pulse racing and aww factor dinging. Also got thrown for a loop on who had a hand in the danger too. If a lover of romance you will also get a Valentine's treat too. So now that Brett and Lauren are done with me, I am for one happy they both get what they deserve. Received a copy for a honest review.

"Surrender" by Angela Ford is a romantic suspense story. Lauren has been married to John for a year when he's killed in a warehouse explosion at his import/export company. On the day of his funeral an FBI agent, Brett Donavan, show's up and tells her he was involved in a drug cartel and that his death was no accident. While he's at her home someone tries to kill her and their on the run! She doesn't know him but there's something about him that she finds attractive. Brett feels the pull from Lauren too and decides not to fight the chemistry. His job is to protect her at all costs but can he do that with a hit out for her and being on the run?

This is a great shorter read but maintains a full story line with great action and good characters. Steamy parts without being explicit. I loved this book!

Donovan is assigned to keep her safe after a hit is put out on her. They are on the run. Lauren has to blend in and has to resort to wearing jeans and flip flops and ditch her Chanel pant suit and expense heels.

When Brett begins to solve the mystery behind her husbands death Lauren is overwhelmed with all that he discovers, especially about her husband. She really didn't know him as well as she thought she had.

Brett's attraction for Lauren intensifies even though he tries to stay professional. Sparks fly. This story is filled with action, suspense and of course romance at every turn to keep the pages turning. I highly recommend Surrender by Angela Ford.

Please note that this title can be purchased separately or is one of four (4) short stories in "Valentine Romance: The Best Short Story Romances" by Angela Ford, Jennifer Conner, Sharon Kleve, and Natalie-Nicole Bates. I highly recommend reading all four (4) stories - independently purchased or as a short story collection purchase - "The Best" is an accurate description!

*************
What a breathtaking story! Lauren Reynolds is not exactly the woman that you would expect to be opening the front door to a ‘Narc’ hours after she has buried her dearly loved husband John. Opening the door to Narcotics Agent Brett Donovan allows him the opportunity to tell Lauren that the explosion at her husband’s warehouse was not an accident but a murder and that someone wants her dead too!

This is definitely not the typical romantic fantasy of meeting “Mr. Right!” How is it possible that Lauren has become a widow before her first wedding anniversary? Who would expect any romantic thoughts and/or hot and sexy moments after returning home from a husband’s funeral?

The story is believable and could be plucked from today’s headlines. For this reader, it was a page-turning romantic thriller. Or, I could describe the story as a roller coaster ride to romance! I couldn’t stop reading. I loved it! First, I was captivated by the title of “Surrender”. There’s a very special “Aha!” moment for a reader when he/she realizes why the title of the book was selected. But this time, the title seems to be even more of a treasure because I felt like I had that “Aha!” moment at the beginning and then again at the end of the story. Awesome!

I loved the twists and turns – some expected but some unexpected! There’s also a very special ‘treat’ following the end of the story to help the reader create their own hot and steamy Valentine’s Day. It was powerful to the story to find the characterizations so carefully developed of Lauren, her parents, Brett, and his friend Rick. It adds to the richness of the story to find strong male and female characters. It is a story that can be enjoyed by men and women, regardless of age. The short story features parents dearly loved, male friends who are genuine and loyal to their friendships with one another, a daughter that follows her heart but doesn’t wilt in a corner with self-pity even though she questions, “Why is this happening to me?” It also features a mother that can still surprise her daughter with a few more life lessons about love and money.

I just finished reading Surrender. Surrender is a romantic suspense written by Angela Ford. Lauren Reynolds thought that her biggest problem was mourning over her husband’s death. Then FBI Narcotics Agent, Brett Donovan, knocks on her door and informs her that her husband was involved with a drug cartel family and his death wasn’t an accident. There is also a order out for her death as well. Can she give up her lifestyle and follow Donovan to stay safe? Can Donovan resist his attraction to her and keep her safe?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was suspenseful. It was intense. It was everything I’d expect when reading a romantic suspense. Angela Ford really does well with stories like these. Reading suspense novels from her is like reading an episode straight out of Criminal Minds. It’s enjoyable to the very last page, and even then, one would want to just keep reading.

Normally this is where I put the things that I didn’t like about the book. I can’t think of anything at all. If I can think of anything, it’s that it wasn’t long enough. I didn’t want to put it down at all. I hope Angela Ford writes many more novels like these. She has a true gift.

I fully recommend this book. I’m truly honored to have read this book and the rest of her collection. I have to say that she does really well with suspense. I can’t wait to read the books she writes from here on out. I fully suggest all of her books. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors.

Will their attraction case more problems to the case, or will he be able to remain professional and keep her safe. Will this attraction be just a one night in the heat of the moment or does it turn into more.

Nothing in Lauren Reynolds life seems real after Narcotics Agent Brett Donovan walks into her life right after her husband John's funeral. She doesn't believe him that her life is in danger until someone breaks into her house while he is there and again the next morning.

Lauren and Brett begin to run from the danger that Lauren is in as Brett tries to put the pieces together on who the missing link is with John's death. Brett knows that Nick Mendez is involved but not all the pieces are complete.

When Brett finally puts the pieces together Lauren is shocked but even more shocked when she learns all of the information that Brett has kept from her. Will the two get a happy Valentine's Day after all the secrets are out?

I love the Brett and I love Lauren and how she really is not prepared for life on the run!!

Surrender by Angela Ford is a superior romantic thriller full of juicy suspense and awesome action wrapped in a dangerous mystery. This is a perfect read for all fans of this genre and for that matter all fans of great novels.
Lauren Reynolds lost her wealthy husband to an explosion at his warehouse. Police deem it an accident, but a knock at her door after the funeral changes everything. Lauren's world is turned on its head as she goes on the run with a special narcotics agent, a hot agent.
Here we have the classic rich bitch meets gorgeous protector and sparks fly in all directions. The author excels with the banter and manner in which these two brilliantly written characters play of each other's first impressions.
I so loved this book and am now a fan of Angela Ford as I am sure many will be after reading this very highly recommended novel.

It brought fast-paced suspense with insta-chemistry romance.
With no one else to trust, Lauren was forced to rely on Brett to protect her life and her heart.
I read it in one sitting and was left craving more (so I got another book by this author).

Lauren Reynolds is widowed after an explosion in her husband’s warehouse. She believed he ran a legitimate business. The local police told her it was an accident. On the day of his funeral, there is a knock at her door to tell her different.

Narcotics Agent Brett Donovan has been investigating John Reynolds for the past several months. A drug cartel operation has been tracked out of John’s warehouse. As if that information wasn’t enough to digest, Agent Donovan warns her there was a hit assigned for both Mr. & Mrs. Reynolds.

Brett is assigned to protect the suburban widow. She may be gorgeous but his first impression of her tells him she’s a rich spoiled snob and he has to put up with her. Brett is good at his job. The first attempt on her life fails but Brett knows it’s only the beginning. He takes her into hiding. There’s definite attraction but there’s also secrets that surface as they continue to escape danger.

He lives for danger. She lives for new shoes at Saks. One night in a motel room with no-air-conditioning and a sexy naked agent captures their desire for one another. Will the tangled mess they’re weaved into and their secrets lead them back into tangled sheets? Is desire enough when they are from two different worlds? Or are they?

The day Lauren Reynolds buried her husband, was the same day a hit was placed on her. Out of nowhere, Agent Brett Donovan came in her rescue. Someone want her dead, which made her wonder whether this had something to do with her dead spouse.

Lauren was clueless about her safety; who was threatening her and why was she being targeted?

Brett made sure Lauren was kept safe all the time. But what was his involvement with her husband. What's he got to do with the drug cartel?

This had been a fast-paced book. Agent Donovan was the knight in shining armor, but Lauren was the doubtful damsel in distress. Their contrasting personalities actually jived with me. I liked how they could get angry with each other one time, then on the next minute, they couldn't keep their emotions intact. They're hot and they're cold. I thought they complemented each other.

I liked the pace and setting of the story. I just thought other parts were a little rushed, I was hoping for it to stretch a little longer. But then again, I liked how everything fell into place. It was a satisfying nighttime read for me :)

I couldn't really get into this story. The major problem for me was the heroine, Lauren. She was too much of a snob, complaining over little things such as the motel they were staying at. At that point, she should have been more concerned that someone was trying to kill her, not where they were staying or eating. She treated Brett poorly, and all he was trying to do was save her life.

Brett was probably the best character in the book. He did his best to protect Lauren, but at the same time he came across as her punching bag as well. She treated him poorly and he kept coming back for more. Honestly, I thought he deserved better.

There were also spots where the writing was choppy. It wasn't terrible, but it was enough to interrupt the flow of the story in some areas.

So many things wrong with this story. The heroine was supposedly happily married and just buried her husband then instantly fell for & slept with another man. She was a snobby bitch who treated people terribly yet the hero fell in love on sight - seriously? The H/h had no chemistry and therefore the story just all seemed forced. Very disappointing.
