The Price of Good Intentions
Lydia’s elopement with Wickham from Ramsgate goes wrong, but Georgiana’s goes right—at least she thinks so—and gets what she wants in this tension-filled variation. And then there’s Darcy and Elizabeth—forced to marry to save their reputations. Quite a start! I know—that’s a bit of a spoiler, but it’s hinted at in the book description, and this all happens in the beginning chapters. Please forgive me.

Elizabeth has a very impulsive nature in this story. She means well and wants to help those she loves, but that independence and confidence in her own judgment and actions do not always turn out as she expects. First, it unwittingly leads to her forced marriage and later into a dangerous secret that threatens it, just as genuine affection begins to grow between her and Darcy. Watching her wrestle with guilt and the consequences of acting alone creates an emotional tension that truly makes this book a page-turner.

“She had never been so aware of her own misjudgment, had never had another person so rightfully furious with her.” —quote from book

Darcy is angry and hurt, especially where Georgiana is concerned, and very conscious of duty and reputation towards his wife. But he doesn’t stay stuck there. He becomes very aware of where he went wrong too, particularly in making Elizabeth feel she could not rely on him.

“He was too angry with Elizabeth to see her now, and angry at himself for being so concerned with his good name that his wife was afraid to confide in him.” —quote from book

Those moments of dialogue felt especially strong to me. In fact, the excellent dialogue throughout held me.

Wickham’s portrayal is harsh, though not violent. Heather Moll’s depiction of his machinations is brutal at times but believable and reinforces the danger he represents for Elizabeth.

Overall, this is another well-written variation from an author I consistently enjoy and respect. Strong emotional tension, a memorable villain, a satisfying romantic journey, and a well-earned HEA left me completely satisfied and looking forward to the author’s next work.

Highly recommend.

Mature content.

Do know that this is rated MA due to detailed descriptions of sex between our married couple.

Although we know all the characters, Wickham is even more evil than in canon. Georgiana is a fool and acts as her husband directs which gives us our CRISIS in this story. Elizabeth choses wrong action but with good motives...but her relationship with D. hangs in the balance.

As said, Darcy agrees to help Elizabeth chase after Lydia who has "eloped" with Wickham only to discover that it is HIS sister, not hers whom they end up following (in a Mail Coach - cute story here) to Scotland.

Although they cannot persuade Georgiana against her marriage, they find themselves having to also marry to save Elizabeth's (and the Bennets') reputation. They make promises HOWEVER as Elizabeth attempts to get Georgiana to come "home" we also find E. secretly breaking trust with Darcy...very interesting but I sighed a big sigh at this part.

In London ODC throws themselves fully into the social scene as Darcy is convinced E. will win the ton over with her intelligence and charm.

We do have an epilogue. Know that not all have a happy ending.

I have read most of this author's stories, only not yet reading the anthology. I highly recommend this and her other stories.

A Most Natural Consequence is a forced marriage P&P variation in which Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth meet in Ramsgate and become involved in a crisis caused by the attempted elopement of their younger sisters with George Wickham. After they attempt to save their sisters, they are forced to marry to save Elizabeth’s reputation and the story progresses as they fall in love with each other. Once more, Heather Moll gives us an emotional story that I really enjoyed and definitely recommend, although there are a few details that some readers may not be as enthusiastic about as I was.

One of the things I loved most was the healthy communication and maturity in Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship. From early on, they make a conscious effort to talk, understand each other, and actively try to make their marriage work. It was refreshing to see a story where the conflict wasn’t dragged out by avoidable misunderstandings between them, but instead they faced challenges together like adults. Also, in this book we are presented with a lot of interactions and dialogues between Darcy and Elizabeth and I absolutely loved that 😊

I also really loved the slow-burn romance and how naturally their relationship develops. Their progression from reluctant allies to friends and then to something deeper felt organic and believable. It never felt rushed or forced and on top of that Mr. Darcy was a true romantic hero. He was a strong and determined character, but also kind and passionate! He was really swoon worthy! Even in their intimate moments, and yes, this is an open door novel, but they are married after all, and in my opinion the scenes we are presented with are tastefully written and brought the book even more depth and emotion. So, for me, this was a great addition, but I know some readers prefer closed door romances, so bear that in mind.

That said, Elizabeth’s actions after the marriage did feel quite naïve to me. I didn’t mind the fact that she made mistakes or even that she kept something from Darcy while trying to help him, but I did wish she had trusted him with the truth much sooner. It took her a bit too long to come clean, and I would have liked to see that happen earlier. On the flip side, I also think Darcy forgave her a bit too quickly considering the situation and his rigidity towards his decision with regards to Georgiana. I know it would have added a bit more angst to the book but letting that tension breathe a little longer could have given the emotional weight even more impact.

I know Georgiana’s character and storyline might not work for everyone, but I actually liked it. It added a different layer to the story and made the book feel different and refreshing. Also, it is Georgiana’s storyline that makes Darcy such an interesting character, and that allows him to have so much depth, so really liked it. I also really loved the epilogue, which was a great way to close everything out and yes, it made me cry.

Overall, A Most Natural Consequence is a beautifully written romance that I really enjoyed and definitely recommend. If you like emotional journeys, forced proximity with plenty of Elizabeth and Darcy interactions, and a little angst, this is absolutely worth reading.

Ugh!

Gave up after the first several chapters as I could tell that I was going to continue to be nothing but annoyed at the silly premise, and the horrible and unlikely behaviors going on. To begin with, a more awful than usual Mrs Bennett in Ramsgate with just Elizabeth, Kitty, and Lydia - not likely. Georgiana Darcy and Mrs Younge are there also, with Wickham making himself a nuisance especially to Georgiana and Lydia. Darcy shows up and allows Mrs Younge to argue with him about what's appropriate for his sister - not likely. A confrontational Elizabeth whose presence there in Ramsgate doesn't make sense except for meeting Darcy, and a snarky and disrespectful Georgiana. Can't figure out why Darcy didn't just trust his instincts and get her out of there as he had planned. Although the book is written well enough, I don't recommend it.

On an impulse Elizabeth Bennet decides at the very last moment to follow her mother and sisters to Ramsgate to look after her younger sisters. In Ramsgate she befriends a shy young lady and soon gets to know the lady’s elder brother. Strangely Elizabth is fascinated by this handsome gentleman from the very first moment despite his harsh words about her and her family.
When her younger sister is suddenly missing and seems to have run away with a scoundrel they previously met in Ramsgate she impulsively turns to the brother of her friend for help.
Fitzwilliam Darcy is more than willing to help Elizabeth, in his mind his lack of action regarding the scoundrel have led to this very disaster. When their plan to stop the elopement fails Darcy and Elizabeth are forced to marry in haste to avoid scandal.
Will they be able to pretend to the world that they eloped due to deep feelings for one another? Will they, at the same time, be able to turn this unwanted union into something more satisfying? Or will Elizabeth's impulsive actions put them in a life of misery?

This book was more than well written by the author Heather Moll. I always love her books and this one showed me again why I think of her as one of my favorite authors. This book hooked me in from the very first moment and I was not able to put it down until the very last page. It is thrilling, especially as soon as the hunt for the missing sister begins and later when the scoundrels appear again. But there are also lighter parts in it, due to their chemistry ODC gets on rather well from the beginning, so, especially when they start to form their life together and discover that they begin to like and later love one another, there is much ease in the story.
Due to their first meeting in Ramsgate, their hunt for the missing sister and their dealing with the consequences of it, the book has much page time for Darcy and Elizabeth.

I loved both Darcy and Elizabeth in this story (that is not something I often say, more often I love Darcy and am annoyed by Elizabeth ;-) ). They both are open and not resentful. They talk a lot to get to know each other and they try to solve their problems by being honest to one another and discussing things in which they do not agree. I loved that because they both seem so much more mature with this attitude. In addition this means that none of them is willing to live in misery, both try to live a happy life.
I also loved that both Darcy and Elizabeth wanted their unwanted union to work. Both are willing to work for this and take steps toward the other. Both hope for at least friendship and do everything in their power to achieve this goal. I was so glad that they later even discovered love.
As you may guess not everything works between Darcy and Elizabeth, you may count on the scoundrels to cause problems. For a time and, due to an outward influence, their union is at risk. These problems and their cause was described in a very understandable way. I had hoped for a slidely different handling of the affair but I can understand the motives of ODC.

I will not tell much about the villains in the book to not spoil something, but let me assure you, they are very evil and mean. One of the scoundrels was a very unexpected one which made what they did the more disturbing. But, in the end, the scoundrels are not successful, they are able to put ODC through dire straits but they are, fortunately, not able to break the union of Darcy and Elizabeth.

If you like to know how the elopement of a sister will lead to a forced marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth you should definitely read this excellent book

I more than highly recommend it.

The book is for a mature audience.

Meeting in Ramsgate not Meryton

I had the privilege of reading this story early, but I borrowed the final version via KU when it came out. I really liked the final version. If you’re looking for the following then this will be the story for you: meet prior to canon, forced marriage/elopement, slow burn, Georgiana elopes, Elizabeth impulsive but Darcy supportive and quick to defend her, blackmail and more. For those that need the heads up there are adult conversation about Wickham‘s proclivities including his preference for other women and his STD risk (some in detail) in addition to some open door scenes near the end between a married couple, but it does fit with the story. Across the board many relationships are tested, strained, hurt, broken and repaired. Parts will make you cry, in addition other times you want to strangle or smack individuals.

Is this out of canon – yes, that is what variations are as the authors take our favorite characters and place them in different situations/environments to see what happens. Sometimes they have not grown up the same or something else is different or so is their life experiences thus it makes their character or situation off canon, but that’s what I love about variations! I’m so thankful to each of these dedicated authors who take the time to share new stories with us. Thank you authors!!

I was disappointed by the beginning of this book. Upon learning of Wickham's presence in Ramsgate and arriving there in haste, Darcy informed Mrs. Younge that he would leave with Georgiana the following morning. Mrs. Younge, his employee!, argued with him for pages, even interrupting him at times, as she insisted Georgiana should stay. An unrecognizable Darcy lost his sense and his spine and allowed Georgiana to remain in the lion's den.

Also on vacation in Ramsgate were Elizabeth, Mrs. Bennet, Lydia and Kitty. They had befriended Georgiana, and were all taken in by Wickham's flirtations. In her conversations with Darcy, Elizabeth was more sarcastic and rude than witty. This was a waspish woman I didn't recognize. Georgiana, too, was OOC. More petulant than shy.

Phase 2 of the story showed improvement, as Darcy and Elizabeth traveled together in a mail carriage, , and got to know each other a little better. Georgiana's behavior and the choices she made did not ring true for me. No one could be that blind to reality, when it kept smacking her in the face. All of the subsequent angst, including the ridiculous choices Elizabeth made, along with their consequences, were too much.

There was some great dialogue between Darcy and Elizabeth, and his strength in dealing with all the problems that arose from Georgiana's idiocy, were well-depicted. I enjoyed those moments, but on the whole, the novel was not a pleasure to read. 3 stars

An adorably sweet Darcy who doesn't realise that the nervousness and bubbling sensations he feels when in Elizabeth's company is because he likes her?

YES PLEASE!

A fantastic tale from start to finish with a unique twist on the Ramsgate elopement. This was a Georiana Darcy who behaved like every fifteen year old and sadly bore the consequences of it.

A plot to bring scandal down on the Darcy name and an enduring love, which ultimately conquers all. *swoony worthy sigh*

The latest release from Heather Moll is everything I could wish for and more!

What if Georgiana was as blind about Wickham as her father

A superb story which is rich in its telling. A story where we don’t really know what’s going to happen. Lizzy has grown up knowing she can depend on no one in her family. Her father and her mother are worthless as they are in Pride and Prejudice. I really enjoyed this book.

Heather Mol knows how to write better.

Others have mentioned that this story starts out well; it’s too bad it falls so far. Elizabeth is more vapid than Lydia.
I hate to give spoilers, but it’s essentially this:

“Mrs Darcy, you are fully aware of why we had to marry, and you fully understand what a reprobate X is because you saw it with your own two eyes. We have fully and completely agreed, expressly, many times, that we cannot aid and abet X by helping Y under any circumstances.”

“Mr Darcy, I completely agree because I saw it with my own two eyes and agree with every term you have laid out. I have agreed repeatedly, of course.”

Mrs Darcy aids and abets X by helping Y.

I don’t even know if I’ll finish this book. It’s pathetic at this point.

Right off the bat there were problems with credibility. By the 50% mark, Elizabeth was acting completely foolishly! By the 70% mark I gave up because it was just too absurd! Knowing what she knew and she still acted foolishly with no defense prepared. Lying and going behind Darcy‘s back was completely the opposite thing that she should’ve done. I wanted to throw the book across the room! Stupid stupid stupid! It’s a shame because I normally enjoy this author’s work. But this one I absolutely do not recommend.

In the world of Austen inspired fiction and Pride and Prejudice variations, Heather Mollis top tier and one of my auto buy authors. She has a wonderful way of bringing fresh takes on one of my favorite classics, while still capturing all of what I love about two of the best characters ever written in Darcy and Elizabeth. Needless to say, I was so excited to hear she was coming out with a new book that would bring us Darcy and Elizabeth’s love story in a whole new way.

In A Most Natural Consequence, Darcy and Elizabeth meet in Ramsgate through their sisters. Much like the original Austen story, their introduction is less than ideal because Darcy being Darcy puts his foot in his mouth. However, in spite of that, Elizabeth still sees that at his core, Darcy is a man of principle and can be trusted. When Wickham threatens the safety and virtue of their younger sisters, Darcy and Elizabeth find in each other an unexpected ally, as a split second decision has life long ramifications for them both. They race together alone towards Scotland hoping that it’s not too late to save Georgiana from making a mistake that she’ll never be able to take back.

When Georgiana refuses to be saved, naively throwing herself into the hands of Wickham, Darcy comes back from Scotland having lost his beloved sister but having gained a wife that he is duty bound to and had not been looking for. The question now is whether he and Elizabeth can find love amidst the many challenges they face?

I have read quite a few forced marriage variations of P&P but what I adored about Moll’s book, is that despite the way in which they married was less than ideal, both Darcy and Elizabeth aim from the very start to approach their union with openness, respect and a desire to be a good partner. This was such a refreshing twist and it makes you root for them every step of the way. Darcy is so wonderful in the way that he champions Elizabeth and comes to admire all of who she is. It was so cute to see the way in which he initially didn’t realize that what he felt for her was not anxiety but adoration. Of course, his cousin Fitzwilliam is there to help him figure it out.

As the action of the story progresses, Elizabeth and Darcy both take actions that they hope will help make the other happy. Unfortunately for Elizabeth, this throws her back into the path of a manipulative and angry Wickham. It definitely gets a bit tense but never fear because we can always count on Darcy to pull through. I will say that Georgiana’s part of this story made me want to shake her at every turn and will leave you feeling so much for Darcy.

I really enjoyed the emotional maturity of Elizabeth and Darcy in this story. Moll provides really thoughtful dimensions to their characters that build off what we have always loved about them while creating even more intimate insights into the way they inspire further evolution in each other. I adored the smiles, the laughter, the heat and everything in between. I only wished I could keep living in this story for many more chapters.

If you are looking for a Darcy and Elizabeth variation that starts from an unexpected and at times painful catalyst and develops into a beautiful example of true partnership and admiration, then this is the story for you!

I loved it!

Warning: Meant for mature audiences. Contains scenes that would scandalize the ton. Readers of a delicate constitution are advised to keep their fans and vinaigrettes close at hand. Scenes of open door intimacies.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. This is full length, open door, forced marriage scenario variation. She’s protecting her family from disgrace, and he’s shielding his from slander. Trapped in a compromising situation, can they find a path to love?

Elizabeth Bennet is dreadfully impulsive. Elizabeth Bennet and some of her family, travel to Ramsgate. There they meet the shy Georgiana Darcy and her handsome brother, Fitzwilliam.

Elizabeth's most unruly sister, Lydia agrees to elope with George Wickham, a scoundrel.

Elizabeth asks for Darcy's help in recovering Lydia. She abandons propriety in her desperation and travels alone with Fitzwilliam.

The elopement takes a surprising turn, but they ultimately fail to stop the inevitable.

As a consequence, Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam enter a marriage of convenience.
They develop a friendship, which warms to something more.

While Darcy is away on business, Elizabeth's kind heart is betrayed and blackmail is threatened. Suddenly, Elizabeth is terrified that if Darcy finds out, their burgeoning love will be destroyed.

A foul Wickham, several foolhardy female characters and a good deal of angst.

This had me on the edge of my seat.
It's a good thing that Heather Moll can be relied upon to deliver happy endings!

If you could be character from a book for one day, who would you be and why? Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice would be at the top of my list.

Elizabeth Bennet has traveled to Ramsgate with her mother and sisters, Kitty and Lydia, for Kitty’s health. While in Ramsgate, they befriend a quiet girl, Georgiana Darcy, visiting the seaside with her governess. Georgiana’s brother, Fitzwilliam soon shows up to visit his sister and meets the Bennets for the first time. When it appears that one of their sisters have run away with Mr. Wickham, Elizabeth and Darcy try to save them only to realize they now need to marry for propriety’s sake. Will the two be able to fall in love after marriage?

My thoughts on this novel:
• This novel is a variation of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

• It was a stressful week last week and ending my day with A Most Natural Consequence by Heather Moll each evening was both enjoyable and stress relieving.

• Elizabeth and Darcy are vividly drawn and detailed. I enjoyed their interactions and chemistry. All the characters felt very true to Austen’s original creations.

• I loved the slow burn build up of the romance between Darcy and Elizabeth. It was fun to see them become friends and to see that friendship turn to love.

• There was open door romance at the end, and it felt earned after the build-up of the relationship.

• The tropes in this novel were forced proximity, forced marriage, and slow burn.

• The Bingleys visiting Netherfield is at the end of this novel. I enjoyed this variation.

• Darcy is straightforward on Wickham’s flaws. Wickham is a terrible man. It was hard to believe that anyone would want to marry him knowing the truth.

• Elizabeth decides to act independently and take matters into her own hands on an issue that leads her into trouble that threatens her and Darcy’s relationship. I was very annoyed at Elizabeth during this section of the book.

Favorite Quote: “The qualities of her mind were equal to those of her heart and her person. He respected her for her personal charms and for her cultivated understanding and refined taste and lively mind. Bot those qualities and attractions had ascendancy over his heart and went far deeper than respect and admiration.” – How romantic!

Overall, A Most Natural Consequence by Heather Moll was a very engaging Pride and Prejudice variation and historical romance. It’s a book to savor read to bring yourself to another world.

I'm just so very disappointed. I really like Moll's writing; an Affectionate Heart is one of my favorite Austen retellings. So when I heard Moll had written a friends-to-lovers forced-marriage/marriage-of-convenience story, I was really excited. The premise was fun and something I hadn't seen before. And I had a great time through the first half of this book as Darcy and Elizabeth stumbled and got to know each other and tried to rescue their sisters together.

But the second half. First, Darcy and Elizabeth keep treating Georgiana like a fully-fledged adult who knowingly walked into her poor choices. And yes, Regency England would have seen her as such. But she's a 15 year old girl manipulated by an awful man, and I can't forget that as a modern day reader. Yes, you have to draw boundaries around yourself when a loved one is embroiled in an abusive or manipulative relationship, but Darcy basically wrote Georgiana off for good, and that kept bothering me.

And I shouldn't get annoyed at characters for not being genre-savvy, but you could see the blackmail coming a mile away and the journal thing felt contrived. Maybe I could have gotten over that if not for the fact that the whole conflict could have been resolved if Elizabeth and Darcy just spoke to each other. All the drama and distance felt needless when it was supposed to be building up exciting angst. This was not the place for a third act miscommunication, or at least not one like this.

A Most Natural Consquequence is another wonderful P&P variation by Heather Moll. It is suspenseful, angsty and very romantic. I was captivated from the first page with the story. Elizabeth and Darcy get married quite early in the story to protect their reputations, but they are already quite attracted to each other. Their path to love and understanding is full of many difficulties, which arise as a result of the actions of those around them, and also of themselves. Elizabeth and Darcy are wonderful characters. Elizabeth is impulsive, cares about her family and thinks of them first. Darcy cares about his family's good name. When he meets Elizabeth at Ramsgate, he is rude and arrogant, but takes Elizabeth's criticism to heart and tries to change. Their road to falling is wonderful and exciting. There were many times when I sat on the edge of my seat with tension and frustration. The other characters in the story are written wonderfully. Wickham is a villain, who doesn't care about those around him, and will do anything to get more money, and Georgiana is impressionable and gullible and the price she pays is terrible. I really enjoyed the novel. The plot is wonderful and gripping, and the love story of Darcy and Elizabeth is very moving and suspenseful.

Ms. Moll is one of my favorite authors because her books are always very well written and are always able to engage the reader and allow us to feel as if we are right there with our beloved characters. I enjoyed the developing relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy in this book. Even though they meet in Ramsgate instead of Meryton, Elizabeth still starts off with a less than perfect opinion of Darcy. Both Elizabeth’s and Darcy’s sister are involved in some mischief, and both Lydia and Georgiana act like know-it-all, spoiled teenagers.

Through the actions of their sisters, Darcy and Elizabeth are thrown together in an early marriage. They agree from the start to do their best to make the most of it (I loved this), and of course eventually they grow to love each other. Without giving too much away, there are still some misunderstandings to work through and a villain to deal with before they can have a happily ever after. But rest assured, they do arrive at the HEA! I highly recommend this book (and anything else written by Heather Moll)! You will no be disappointed.

This one stands head and shoulders above the crowd

Wow! This is quite the roller coaster ride with real angst and emotion as well as dogged determination and quiet, gentle true affection.

Heather Moll has created another epic story with authentic characters and excellent narrative and dialogue. The portrayals of the key characters are excellent snd empathetic and a I defy the reader not to be truly moved by their respective plights. There are some deeply insightful comments in the book about Wickham's relationship with Darcy senior and Elizabeth's relationship with her parents which rang so true they quite took my breath away.

Georgiana's story arc is hard to read but it is a very real and viable consequence of her actions. As for Wickham, this is true villainy. He is not a foolish man; he is an intelligent man and here we see him giving full rein to his malevolent intellect.

The burgeoning affection between Elizabeth and Darcy is beautifully written and the sacrificial care they show for each other is tenderly handled.

I highly recommend this book.

A Most Natural Consequence by Heather Moll is a wonderfully inventive variation with great emotional scenes between Darcy and Elizabeth. It is a different forced marriage scenario than is usually written, with both partners acquiescing to the marriage, and determined to make the best of it.

I found myself becoming enthralled with the book. I had a hard time putting it down, and in also not just skipping to the end to discover how some of the plot points are resolved. I enjoyed how Darcy and Elizabeth approached the marriage, determined to become friends and make it work. The settlement discussion was fascinating in that is seemed like very realistic numbers for a man with "10,000 a year". Thanks to the author’s research into Scottish marriage laws, I learned more about Scottish marriages and the previously unknown (by me) possibility of divorce.

I highly recommend yet another great variation by Heather Moll, and look forward to her future books.

I received an ARC of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

Heather Moll has become my go-to author for JAFF/variations. The way in which she is able to take literally any point of the original work and create an engaging story that hasn't be done yet, it's a pleasure to read.

This story starts off in Ramsgate, before the interrupted would-be elopement of Georgiana and Wickham. This time, it turns out quite differently. After a series of mishaps, what started off as a rescue mission for one sister turns into Darcy and Elizabeth needing to marry to save their reputations.

There's such a great balance between being plot driven and character driven in this story. I found Lizzy to be really impulsive in this one, more so than normal in these variations and in P&P, but it comes from a place of deep love for her family and friends. Here, her actions made sense, though her independent and headstrong nature meant that she tried to solve problems on her own and it ended up having disastrous results for her. She tries to make the best of her situation and forced marriage but ends up falling in love.

We find Darcy much as he always is in the beginning, stalwart and prideful but he has his moment of reflection on how he presents himself to others and makes those changes much earlier than in the original work. This Darcy includes Elizabeth in his plans and comes to treasure her as a friend and confidant, quickly turning to love. It's a lovely slow burn of them discovering how perfect they are for each other, page after page.

Wickham is much as he ever is but what surprised me most was the characterization of Georgiana. In a lot of variations, Georgiana is depicted as this golden flower who can do no wrong, who's shipping D +L. In this one, she acts like how a 15 year old girl would who fancies herself in love and will not be dissuaded from her plans. In all honesty, she acts more like Lydia would though a much more tame version. It was refreshing to read, though just made me sad at how her circumstances turned out. She did not get much of a redemption arc though does seem to regret her choices at the end.

Overall, another fantastic read by Heather Moll and if you love JAFF and Pride and Prejudice, definitely pick this one up!

I am a huge fan of Heather Moll’s books and whenever there is a new one I know it will probably become a new favorite. She is very thorough in her writing and research and I love that I also learn a lot about the Regency period while reading her books.
“A Most Natural Consequence” is a delightful slow burn story where ODC is thrown together early on because of Georgiana’s and Lydia’s involvement with Wickham. Darcy and Elizabeth have to marry to save their reputation and what follows is a lot of interactions between them while they slowly get to know each other and fall in love. And what I absolutely love about this book is that while there are still misunderstandings between them, they have vowed from the start to be friends, to make their marriage work and to be honest with each other.
I highly recommend this book!

Not the same old, same old - 4.5 Stars

I'm cautious about reading forced marriage scenarios because the act of compromising often seems foolish. Also, Darcy and Elizabeth, usually the two most intelligent characters in these types of variations, never sit down to have a rational conversation before marrying, so everything is based on a lack of communication going forward.

However, a few reviews mentioned how Darcy and Elizabeth discussed things beforehand, and I was all in.

- I loved the Georgiana and Wickham storyline because it doesn't seem unrealistic for Georgiana to find herself in that situation.

- I'm always searching for something new in these variations. It was a nice change of pace to see that Elizabeth can sometimes make poor decisions. She's twenty!

- Darcy and Elizabeth are the main characters, but the key is that their chemistry worked.

This is such a well written story featuring a Darcy and Elizabeth that meet in Ramsgate (so before our typical first meeting). They have some moments together, where Darcy is generally insulting, and she points it out, and then the drama starts. Lydia elopes and Elizabeth in desperation asks for Darcy's help when he turns up to look for HIS sister. They dash off to London, where it comes to light that Lydia did not elope (she was a decoy), and it was actually Georgiana who has eloped. Then comes another mad dash to Scotland, and a heart-wrenching scene between the 4 characters.

Afterwards, Elizabeth and Darcy must marry, and the rest of the book is them navigating the gossip, rumor, and assumptions around their marriage. D&E have a friendship and respect for one another, with the beginnings of real feelings. The interference of others though will undermine all of this.

This was more angsty than I expected but very well done. I had to read through it quickly to make sure it was all ok. Not everyone has a satisfying ending.

One of the things I like most about characters written by Heather Moll is that she isn't afraid to let her characters suffer the consequences of their poor choices. It's very realistic, and there is hope that the characters will be willing to learn. But the angst during that learning?! It's also very real! This was such a well written story and makes you consider the folly of youth and inexperience. It gives a different take on the events at Ramsgate. Mr. Darcy starts as he always does, but the transformation makes him more than he's ever been. Lizzy also has much to learn about herself, love, and marriage. The struggle is worth the outcome!
