Marcy, a human woman, awaits the fate of her soul in the afterlife.
Alongside the angel tasked to judge her, Marcy is forced to confront the complicated memories of her life.
As her heart softens toward the gentle, inquisitive angel, she finds herself caught between her desire to prove her soul is worth saving and the budding feelings for this ethereal creature.
Astamesiophelous, The Evaluator, has been judging mortal souls for thousands of millennia.
Initially created with no emotions, Asta has gradually become plagued with human-like sentiments. When tasked with judging the soul of a fearful, kindhearted human who does not shy away from his true form, Asta can no longer deny the overwhelming humanity consuming his every thought. Even though it is forbidden.
This novella is dual-perspective and told in the third person.
Falling for the Angel contains sensitive subject matter such as domestic violence, graphic descriptions of death, and child abuse/loss. Reader discretion is advised.
Nathalia Rui is a spicy monster romance author who likes her monsters MONSTROUS. She is an artist who enjoys creating her own monsters (that she can make an FMC kiss) and is always down for a good trope-reversal.
Before reading this story check any TW and be mindful of them. This is also a very high heat story. Make sure you like spicy stories. This is also a monster/paranormal romance story. Again, make sure you know what that means. This story also deals with angles and the after life. Make sure you are okay with this and can handle discussions about religion before reading
I love this story. It’s short and will hook you immediately. The pacing is quick, but not too quick you feel like you’re missing anything.
The story is written in the third person with first person dialogue and is well written. If you feel like third person isn’t for you this one will be okay for you.
Asta is the Angle and for Marcy the FMC, he takes a male persona, but as an ethereal being he has no gender. Asta’s an angel, like a real angle that’s written about in Bibles. Like, you know a million eyes on their wings type angle.
Asta also has some interesting appendage action going on. Think tentacles, but they’re hands, so maybe think of that scene from Labyrinth where the hands move her down and up? Yeah like that.
This book goes over heavy themes like religious trauma and misogyny, so make sure you can handle discussion of those things and seeing them depicted in Marcy
It is a HEA story and is incredibly romantic. Like, Asta is everyone’s next book boyfriend or if you read the story book girlfriend?
The story if read and analyzed talks about the complexities of humanity as well as being critical of Abrahamic faiths and their relationship with god and women.
You also can just read it as a smutty monster romance and think nothing more of it
Either way go read this story! It’s wonderful

I enjoyed this book! It definitely delivered on the smut scenes between these two, and Asta is the ultimate soft lovely love interesy. Loved that angel! I'm going with four stars instead of five only because I felt their relationship and attraction for one another felt extremely quick. I would've loved to see Marcy and Asta gradually build into that attraction more, versus developing feelings so early on. Still a great read, I really enjoyed the ending for these two even if it made me cry a little! :)

this book immediately made me want to cry. a short, but emotionally impactful novella that touches on religious trauma, and the fact that "good" and "bad" are not just black and white. this story gives the main characters both a small space at the ends of their lives to finally be seen and feel appreciated. I was so happily surprised by the ending, i cried, it was so sweet.
oh and the monster bits are unique and -impressive- :)
Rui makes angels HOT 🔥 but also digs into the deep nuances of humanity, second chances, religion, and the grey areas between "good" and "evil".
What should you expect?
-~Unique~ 🍆 Anatomy -Virgin MMC -HEA ❤️🔥 -Love in the Afterlife - extra SPICYYY scenes 👀 🔥🔥
I simply ADORED every minute of Asta and Marcy interacting. Both were able to grow into such a short amount of time with each other. (Also, we stan a consent king!)
Rui also wasn't afraid to delve into darker aspects as well, namely childhood traumas & abuse. I was near tears at times with how close to home this hit.
Hands down, I can't reccomend Rui's work enough. They're an amazing writer, artist and person. Please, give this a read. I promise you won't regret it!
I received this book as an ARC! (But also bought the bundle HEH)
If I’m being honest, initially I was a bit hesitant of this book because I really enjoyed Nathalia’s first book (I love lizards lol). I’m not too big on religion and usually don’t engage in many works that talk about it, but I’m very happy that I read this book. This book came to me at the right time, after dealing with an unimaginable loss. And though the story has zilch to do with what happened in my life recently, I deeply appreciate the theories of life after death that this book touches on. It gave me a lot of comfort.
Marcy is a complex main character, her life wasn’t ideal by any means. At first, I thought she was going to be a character who is portrayed as incredibly submissive (I really dislike when women are portrayed that way) but I’m really impressed with how Nathalia was able to show Marcy’s strength and resilience through her experiences. Though her life is quite sad, she was able to find happiness in little things. It made me happy that she kept going.
Asta is a wonderful and supportive love interest. Though he doesn’t have a face, Nathalia was able to portray a great deal of emotion with his character, both on page and in her art. I think that a gentle and patient love was exactly what Marcy needed during the time spent with him. He’s curious and awkward, but also wise and outworldly. Love his hands!
I’m still relatively new to reading proper books (I’m a fanfic girly) but I think that the ending of the book gave much needed closure that all novellas need. I look forward to what Nathalia has to write next!
A stunningly beautiful read from Natahlia Rui! I haven't read their other work, but I'm definitely going to. This was gorgeously written and heartbreakingly sad... but there's still a happy ending so don't worry. Definitely an emotional read that will destroy you.
Received this ARC yesterday afternoon and it is an Amazing Novella! Truly one of the most unique one’s I have read in both story and the fact that the MMC is a Biblically Accurate Angel. The story of Marcy and Asta is full of them both experiencing things for the first time, getting to know one another and everything that comes from them being so different, one Human and one Ethereal Being. This is a Sad, Sweet and Spicy Story that really makes one think deeper about an array of things like one’s own beliefs, the impact we have on others, etc. Be sure to check the Content Warning Page as this Novella does deal with many dark topics
Absolutely pleased as apple pie to have been given this ARC!!! This novella was hard-hitting and heavy, but also so wonderful. I loved Asta and Marcy’s story. As someone with religious trauma, I found comfort in the aspect of the afterlife in this, I think it was done so tastefully. To be seen is such a beautiful thing and Nathalia captured it perfectly in this. The romance was next-level, I fear this may be the new monster romance standard. The ending had me weepy. Easiest five star review from me. 🫶🏻
