He was the one man she can't use, and can't stop wanting.
Kassi comes to Walker Lake telling herself the job is temporary, a way to keep her daughter Emma safe and build something steadier out of a hard life. But the deeper she gets into the fight over Silver Creek Ranch, the harder it is to ignore what the deal is really asking of her, especially once Asher makes it clear he knows exactly what she represents. He is gruff, stubborn, and closed off at first, but every clash between them pulls her closer to the one man she should keep at a distance.
Asher has no reason to trust the woman tied to people who want his family’s land, and he pushes back at every turn. Still, beneath the anger is a man who notices too much, feels too deeply, and starts letting Kassi and her daughter into parts of himself he keeps locked down. What starts as friction turns into private vulnerability, sharp desire, and a connection that leaves both of them exposed long before either is ready to admit it.
Kassi is trying to survive, prove herself, and keep her feelings under control, but her arc is really about facing the cost of her own compromises. Asher begins guarded, suspicious, and emotionally defensive, then slowly softens as attraction turns into something that matters. Their relationship moves from distrust and tension into intimacy and real attachment, then strains under secrecy and conflicting loyalties before edging toward something more honest.
A steamy, emotionally intense, enemies to lovers, protective hero, single mom, small town, cowboy romance about what it costs to choose honesty over self-protection and trust someone after betrayal. As pressure closes in, a guarded woman and a stubborn, deeply feeling man have to decide whether love is worth risking their pride, security, and old loyalties for something real.
The Elevator Pitch: A struggling single mother comes to a small town to secure her future, only to find herself drawn to the cowboy whose life her job could help destroy. What begins as suspicion and sharp-edged tension turns into something far more dangerous as buried motives, private longing, and wounded pride pull them closer. With loyalty on one side and desire on the other, both have to decide how much of themselves they’re willing to lose for a chance at something real.

The Cowboy and His Enemy by Kaci M. Rose is a fun, heartfelt small-town romance that pairs classic grumpy/sunshine energy with genuine emotional growth. The story pits a stubborn, taciturn cowboy against a fiercely opinionated heroine—enemies on paper but sparks in practice—and Rose does a great job wringing humor and heat from their clashes. The rural setting is cozy and well-drawn, giving the romance a grounded, homey feel.
What works best is the chemistry and the character development. The banter is sharp and often laugh-out-loud, but Rose also gives both leads room to soften and change for the right reasons. Their slow-burn attraction unfolds through small moments of care and reluctant vulnerability, which makes the eventual payoff both satisfying and believable. Secondary characters—family and townsfolk—add warmth and texture, making the world feel lived-in.
Pacing is solid: the novel balances comedic confrontations and simmering tension with quieter scenes that deepen emotional stakes. A few familiar trope beats show up, and some plot threads could have used slightly tighter resolution, but those are minor when the characters are this enjoyable. The ending delivers a heartfelt, feel-good happily-ever-after that leaves you smiling.
Overall, The Cowboy and His Enemy is a solid four-star read for fans of opposites-attract romances who want humor, heart, and sweet slow-burn chemistry.

Everything Happens for a Reason -
Kassi was sent to try to convince Asher to sell his family ranch, but he sent her packing with a no. However, fate pulled Asher and Kassi together again when an unexpected matchmaking opportunity led to them exchanging text messages. Even though Asher realised he was messaging Kassi, he didn’t make her aware he was the one she was talking to, but getting to know each other in this mode allowed them to get to know each other better.
Kassi and Asher soon started spending time together, which led to a change in the dynamics of their relationship. Regrettably, Kassi found herself at odds with her employer after she overheard a conversation and the guilt she felt towards Asher made her come clean to him. Asher and Kassi soon found themselves working together to ensure he would be able to keep the ranch, which led to conflict with his family, as they didn’t trust her. Unfortunately, Kassi found herself in a bind, as she wasn’t prepared to come between the brothers and decided to walk away from Asher, but her despair got worse when she also lost her job.
As luck would have it, being apart forced Asher to acknowledge his true feelings and do everything possible to not only get Kassi back, but also clear up the spiteful rumours that were being spread around about her. Thankfully, Kassi and Asher got to have a chance at building the life they deserved. This is a gripping romance story with engaging characters and a compelling storyline, which features high-stakes emotions, the perfect amount of drama, angst, suspense and romance, that will get your blood pumping as the story unfold on the pages. This is a definite must read book.

**Falling for His Enemy!**
Welcome to the third book in the Walker Lake, Texas series, *The Cowboy and His Enemy*! In this delightful story, Kassi and Asher find themselves on opposite sides of a big decision about their town's future. Kassi is working for a development company trying to convince Asher and his brothers to sell their land. But fate has a funny way of bringing people together! Kassi and Asher, affectionately known as "Bear," start chatting over text, and Asher quickly figures out who she is.
As they get to know each other better, they begin to see that they might actually be perfect for one another. However, Kassi begins to have concerns about the development company's real intentions and why they're putting so much pressure on her regarding Asher’s land. When she discovers that Asher is behind their text exchanges, things really start to heat up between them!
As the drama unfolds at work, Kassi faces a tough choice: should she tell Asher the truth, even if it might cost her job, or stay quiet and risk losing everything she and her daughter have longed for?
Rose does an amazing job creating the characters of Kassi and Asher—they’re just so lovable! The world-building is rich, and the side characters add a wonderful sense of found family that keeps me coming back for more. I was so engrossed in the story that I couldn't put it down, finishing it in one sitting! I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series and get lost in this charming world again!

I absolutely loved Asher and Kassi’s Rival to Lovers Romance! As a big fan of Kaci Rose and her cowboy series, I went into this with high expectations, and it delivered in every possible way. The story is beautifully written, emotionally engaging, and completely addictive from start to finish.
The chemistry between Asher and Kassi is electric. Their rivals-to-lovers dynamic is done so well. Full of tension, sharp banter, and that slow, satisfying shift into something deeper. You can really feel every moment of their journey, and it makes the payoff incredibly rewarding. I especially adored the Texas cowboy, small-town setting. Kaci does it sooo well! It has that warm, cozy charm that pulls you right in, and the sense of community and found family adds so much heart to the story. The matchmaking elements were such a fun touch too!
Kassi’s role as a single mom adds an extra layer of depth and emotion, and I loved how naturally everything was woven together. Nothing felt forced, just genuine, heartfelt storytelling at its best.
If you’re already a fan of her Rock Springs Texas series, this is a must-read. And if you’re new, this is a perfect place to fall in love with her writing. Highly, highly recommend! 💛.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Kaci Rose, and The Cowboy and His Enemy just reminded me why. This was my first book from the Walker Lake, Texas series, and now I need to go back and read the first two.
Kaci’s writing always hits this perfect middle ground for me—engaging enough that I’m hooked, but not so intense that I feel rushed to finish. I can enjoy the story at a natural pace, and that’s exactly what happened here.
This book follows Asher (aka Bear) and Kassi. Kassi is a single mom working for a developer trying to buy out local ranch land, and she’s tasked with convincing Asher and his brothers to sell. As expected, Asher wants nothing to do with her and keeps shutting her down.
But things take a turn when Kassi starts texting “Bear”—not knowing he’s actually Asher. That’s where everything starts to unravel in the best (and messiest) way.
The tension builds beautifully as secrets pile up—hidden identities, conflicting loyalties, and feelings neither of them planned for. And when the truth comes out? It gets messy. But that’s what makes the journey so satisfying.
This story has everything I love:
Small-town charm
Emotional tension
Strong chemistry
A genuinely complicated situation
If you’re into romance that feels real, a little chaotic, and completely worth it in the end, I definitely recommend this one.

Asher and Kassi’s story is an angsty enemies to lovers romance. She arrives in town to persuade Asher and his family to sell their land to the development company who employs her. Of course Asher is dead set against selling and tells her so repeatedly. At first she believes that her employer’s development plan will benefit the town in numerous ways, but gradually Kassi begins to have some doubts. This job is a means to support her and seven year old daughter, but she doesn’t want to deceive or hurt Asher and his brothers or the townspeople.
As their story unfolds, Kassi and Asher learn more about each other through texts (they don’t know who the other is at first), and in person interactions. The attraction is mutual, but the development deal stands between them. She has a big decision to make as secrets are exposed and feelings deepen between her and a certain stubborn cowboy. Unfortunately, the situation becomes even more complicated with discord and drama within Asher’s family and Kassie’s guilt and fears escalating. Thankfully, they get some help in setting everything right and the development company packing.
The small town setting, the texting and the blossoming romance are all very enjoyable. The angst, secrets and family drama make this book even more engaging.

The Cowboy and His Enemy was such an enjoyable small-town romance with the perfect mix of tension, heart, and chemistry. I really liked the rivals-to-lovers setup, and Asher was exactly the kind of grumpy, protective cowboy hero I love reading about. Kassi was easy to root for too, especially with how hard she was trying to build a better life for herself and her daughter. 💕
What made this one work so well for me was the emotional layer behind the romance. It was not just attraction—there was real conflict with her job, his mistrust, and the way their lives kept pulling them together anyway. The single mom element added extra sweetness, and the connection between Asher and Kassi’s daughter made several moments especially tender. 🥹✨
Overall, this was a heartfelt, steamy, and satisfying read for fans of cowboy romance, small-town drama, and protective heroes. If you like grumpy/sunshine vibes, found family, and a love story with both sparks and emotion, this one is definitely worth picking up 🤠🔥.

I recieved this book as an ARC and am leaving an honest review in return. This was my first book from Author Kaci M Rose and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, The Cowboy and His Neighbour - Finn and Parker’s story.
Kassi is a single mum to 8 year old Emma who has just started a job as a development company and one of her jobs is to convince Asher Walker to sell his land and oh boy does she have a fight on her hands from the moment they meet. His grumpy, arrogant, rude and doesn’t give her the time of day. Then she finds out the lengths the company will go to get the Walkers land.
Asher doesn’t want to sell their land. It doesn’t matter how much money they get offered, the answer is always going to be no. What part of that doesn’t Kassi understand? She doesn’t back down, always trying to get him to see reason but she’s just doing her job isn’t she? Until she’s not. She comes to him when it matters the most with information that helps him protect their land but puts her at risk.

I absolutely love this book! While this is not my first Kaci Rose book, it is definitely one of my favorites. This book reminds me of any modern western TV show such as Ransom Canyon or Heartland (which I love) and we all know that ranchers DO NOT take kindly to those trying to drill for oil, or minerals etc. or just plain taking advantage of their land and them. While this is a slow burn romance between Asher and Kassi I could cut the tension between them with my own knife, it was insane. To think that some men think and feel as deeply as Asher is INSANE. He wanted to do the best by/for his family while taking a leap of faith for a girl who was (at one point) working for the "wrong" side. This was a very easy read (1 full day to read) and was a story I could relate too in a sense as well as see myself in Kassi's shoes, praying that she made the right decision between Asher (and his family) and her daughter Emma and her job. Great read! May need to read the rest in this series too!

A captivating, engaging read that will hold readers riveted from beginning to end
Asher is a very busy hard-working man that had a ranch that he has built up from a tiny one piece of land and now it is a busy hard-working rancher. Kaci has written another completely delightful story that holds the readers attention in full from start to finish.
The treachery and lies from the corporation that believes that because it is larger can get away with anything will learn that this is not the case, Asher is not a man that can be pushed around. The love that Asher and Kaci share after finding there way back to each other is sweet and the community of Walker Lake all stick together and look after each other.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

I absolutely loved The Cowboy and His Enemy! This book deserves every bit of 5 stars. Just like the rest of the series, it completely pulled me in and kept me hooked from beginning to end.
One of the things I enjoyed most is how all the characters come together in this story. The strong sense of connection and loyalty between them really stands out, and it makes the world feel so warm and real. The bond within the group is beautiful to read about.
Asher and Kassi’s relationship is the true heart of the book. Their love feels genuine, deep, and emotional, and you can’t help but root for them the entire time. I found myself constantly hoping everything would work out, needing to know how their story would end.
The book is not only romantic but also emotional in the best way. It made me feel so much, and I was completely invested in every moment.
I truly enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down. A perfect addition to the series!

This series has been such a joy to read and with each book, the stories get better and better. Ms. Rose gives us a story filled with so much angst that I was surprised the two MCs finally gave in to the pull. The story is well-written, entertaining, heartwarming and a joy to read.
The Cowboy and His Enemy is Asher and Kassi's story and I was cheering for Kassi right from the start. Talk about two people who were on opposite sides of the tracks. He wants to save his ranch and her company wants to develop it. Will they ever see eye to eye? The chemistry between them was impossible to ignore and when they crossed that imaginary line, the sparks ignited. The only thing she has is a daughter to worry about and with her company trying to take his ranch, she could lose her job, or the man she has developed feelings for. From the first encounter, where they were at one another's throats, to the confessions of love, this book was impossible to put down.

Asher owns the family Silver Cattle ranch along with his two brothers, Finn and Zach. Single mom Kassi once again turns up on his property to make another offer on behalf of Silver Rock Developments, for whom she is employed. Once again, he sends her off, not accepting again since he is not interested in selling. Kassi is persistent, but Asher is stubborn and won't give up his legacy. They start with a text message communication when Kassi bumps into Ahser's mom. His mom passes Kassi his phone number, trying to set them up. When he finds out who she is, he doesn't divulge his secret. He is torn between really liking her and her job getting in the way. Kaci keeps you turning the pages with the angst between the two and the twists and turns that you dont see coming. Will Asher and Kassi ever get an HEA?
I recieved an arc from Booksprout for my voluntary honest review for NN Book Blog. If you love a small-town second chance with angst and drama, then you will love this read.

It's a conflict of interest on both sides. Asher and his brothers have just bought their ranch and are determined to work it. Kassi is employed by a development company that is buying land and doing her best to sell their offers to the land owners. Asher's land is the prime target. The pressure is on from both sides..he is resistant and she is under orders to find leverage. In addition, after meeting his mother, she contacts him via text, unaware of who he is.
The conflict is between head and heart. Each are attracted to the other, but business is essentially their driving concern. Only one can win and survive..and Kassi discovers her corporation's devious methods do not settle well with her.
Choices and decisions are going to change both people and circumstances, complicated by the developing relationship and feelings.

The Cowboy and His Enemy was such a good, emotional read. I really liked the tension between Kassi and Asher right from the start. You can feel the push and pull between them, especially knowing she’s connected to the people trying to take his ranch.
Kassi is just trying to build a better life for her and her daughter, and I liked how real her struggles felt. Asher starts off guarded and stubborn, but you can tell there’s so much more underneath that, especially in the way he slowly lets her in.
I also liked how their relationship built over time, going from tension and mistrust to something deeper, even with everything working against them. There’s definitely drama, emotions, and moments that make you root for them.
Overall, it was a really engaging small-town cowboy romance with heart and just the right amount of angst.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC. All opinions are my own.

The Cowboy and his Enemy -
By Kaci M Rose
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Touch me like you mean it
Walker Lake at the Silver Cattle Ranch owned by Asher and his brothers. His mom Janet calls him Bear. Kassi, works for a developer trying to buy the ranch and her 7yr old daughter Emma.
These two so get off on the wrong foot..or do they.
The horses with Emma just stole my heart, made me remember my first time with horses at my aunts barn. Learning everything for the first time with them.
2 of my absolute favorites of this book.
“Bear: That depends. You bringin' attitude or just lookin' for company?”
Another I loved
“"You have to watch where you're running, Sweet Pea," I say, crouching to her level. "Those boots aren't built for quick turns." She nods solemnly, then giggles. "You're like a catcher's mitt."
Such a must read!

Cowboy romance.
Kassi is a young single mother who moved to a small town with her daughter for her new job and a better life. She didn't expect, however, that the kind man she's been texting with would be the same unpleasant cowboy she deals with at work.
Asher bought the ranch with his family, so when a big businessman wants to get his hands on the land, he knows he'll do anything to protect it. But if that means being tough on the beautiful and sweet single mother who just arrived in town, he's prepared. So when he realizes that the woman his mother gave her phone number to is Kassi, he sees it as an opportunity to get to know her better and defend himself.
Will Kassi and Asher be able to put aside their differences for a beautiful love story, or is the danger threatening the ranch greater than they think…

This story features an excellent plot; you will enjoy every chapter. Kassi is a single mother who works hard to provide a stable life for her daughter. One of her duties is to convince the owners of Silver Cattle Ranch to sell to her company. One of those owners is Asher, and he is making the situation difficult for her. Between the two of them, there are not only disagreements stemming from their differing opinions, but also a very strong mutual attraction. And when, by a twist of fate, they strike up a friendship via text messages, they realize what is truly happening between them. The situation takes a turn for the worse when Silver Rock Development becomes ruthless in its pursuit of the ranches it desires—a turn of events that impacts both Kassi and Asher. This story has a satisfying ending.

Asher will do whatever it takes to save his ranch; it's his family, his legacy, and he's not gonna let some women who make his head turn destroy that. Asher is hardworking, and it shows on the pages, and you can't help but fall in love with him. Kassi has been through so much; she just wants to show that she can stand on her own two feet and care for and protect her daughter. She's trying to do her job, but at every step, Asher is stopping her. When Asher stops and sees what Kassi is going through, something clicks. Her daughter is so adorable and will capture your heart the second you meet her. I love how Asher and Kassi look at the bigger picture and see what is really going on. Secrets and lies will be revealed, and it will be up to the two of them to decide if love and a future are worth fighting for.

One of my favorite parts about books is their author’s availing to create world that I only realize isn’t real until I am forced back into my own reality. The setting here is so well described, I feel like I might be able to smell the dirt and grass.
Another thing I love is how authors just throw out brilliant lines like they’re nothing and keep moving. "You've spent so long surviving that peace feels suspicious." This one hit just right.
Kaci said this is her first enemies to lovers and that tracks because Asher and Kassie’s story reads more like a “I tried to hate you, but I can’t”, and that is okay in the best way. I look forward to more of her special brand of this trope in the future!.

This was another fab addition to the series and the lovers-to-rivals trope was done so well. Kassi is a single mom and she's been sent to Asher to talk him into selling his ranch. Ha! He has no interest in that and sends her packing ;) Then a match up on a dating site has them texting and really getting to know each other. Feelings bloom, strong and deep, but trouble isn't done with them. I really enjoyed the small town setting with the charm, community, and the way everyone works together to protect their own... Thankfully, despite all the hurdles, these two manage to find a way to be together. Expect to get caught up in the drama, banter, secrets, found family and hot chemistry as these two journey to a fab HEA. It's emotional, heartwarming and engaging. Good fun!

Asher and his brothers, Zach and Flinn, are now settled into the Silver Cattle Ranch, they're working hard. Kassi has started a relatively new job persuading ranchers to sell their land to try to rejunevate the small town, but what she expected and how it's turning out doesn't sit right with her. Her boss seems a lot more aggressive than previously.
Asher has no intention of selling any of their land and tells Kassi this, all the time trying to hide how attracted he is to her. She needs her job to support her daughter, Emma.
She's between a rock and a hard place. Can Asher help her? Can she help him?

When I started reading the book it took me deep inside it. I couldn't put it down. The two main characters take you in their thoughts and feelings. They're so well developed characters.
The book is about a big company who think they can get what they want and crush everthing beneath their feet. Fueled by greed. And about the power of a small town and it's inhabitants. All these storylines come together and make this book exiting and warm at the same time.
This book is a must read! I loved each page I read. The good part is that it's part of a series. So in each book you meet characters you read about in another book.

The Cowboy and His Enemy is book 3 in the Walker Lake, Texas series by Kaci M Rose. 4.5 stars
Up next is Asher and Kassi’s story. Kassi works for a development company that is determined to take the ranch from Asher and his brothers. She’s sent to convince them to sell but she doesn’t realize the treachery that’s behind company. When she overhears the deception she tells Archer because she realizes she’s being used. What happens next is secrets, pressures to stay ahead of the development company, gossip, drama, risking it all and maybe finding an HEA they both deserve…

Asher a man trying to make a success of a ranch with his brothers, Kassi trying to give her daughter stability. Both on opposite sides. As always Kaci has a way of writing angst and yearning like no other. This is the perfect enemies to lovers story with added treachery and lies from big corporation. Loved how Asher and Kassi not only found their way to each other but Walker Lake community came together to fight for what was right.

Asher and Kassie are great together, as enemies and as friends and lovers. Loved how they got to know each other better by texting. Kassie is sent to Walker Lake to help with the development of the town but her biggest task is to talk Asher into selling his land for the development. There is intrigue and treachery in this story along with steam and I loved it. Great story, well written, well developed characters and a great happy ending.

Book three of "Walker Lake, Texas" focuses on older brother Asher. He's always been the dependable one - the one that holds everything and everything together. When developers come calling, he's willing to do anything to stop them. Kassi Carter is a single mom trying to build a better life for both her and her daughter. When she starts suspecting that everything with the development corp. she's working for is not on the up and up, she has do decide whether to keep quiet or bring it all out in the open. A really good book !!!

I enjoyed Asher & Kassi's story. It was fast paced, with unexpected plot twists. I liked the characters - Asher & Kassi as well as the supporting characters. I like how they were able to figure things out to be together, despite their start.
This is Book 3 of the Walker Lake, Texas series. I have not read the other books in the series, but look forward to reading them. They are interconnected standalones.
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️
The book is told in a dual 1st person POV.
