After a failed six-year relationship, the idea of commitment and marriage is unwelcome, and dating is the furthest thing on my mind. I’ve spent months hidden in the solitude that my position as a head librarian provides. All was going well until he walked in, shattering the quiet solace of the house of books I thrive in, causing my body to tingle in unimaginable ways. He has an unfiltered tongue and is hellbent on breaking the chains barricading my splintered heart.
Tyshawn Carrington
Once one of the best safeties in the league, my life took an unexpected turn after a career-ending injury. I didn’t have a backup plan because I never saw myself leaving the game so soon. All I know is the game of football. At the urging of my parents, I returned to the place that has always grounded me—my hometown. Boredom led me to an unlikely place—the public library. Nothing could have prepared me for the moment I entered the building and saw her. The jolt she gave to my system may give my life new meaning after all.
Can the slick-talking former safety and the reserved librarian find common ground? Or will their differences keep them on opposite sides of the field?
I usually love Riley’s books, but this one did not resonate with me at all. It was chaotic, especially on the female main character part. She didn’t bring anything to the story and she reacted to every little thing. I didn’t understand. Did she actually like him or not.
There was great chemistry & banter between the MCs. I was giddy & giggling. Tyshawn was a little unbalanced, but nothing too crazy. He was attentive, romantic, & so sure about his lady. I loved how it brought him joy to make her happy. Keyana was Ty’s opposite in almost every way. She was the calm to his chaos, but they shared a spark. & although she tried to deny it, she was soon receptive & reciprocating of the love Ty had for her.
Now, I appreciate a couple facing adversity, & then experiencing their conflict resolutions. However, I hated the mess at the 75% mark of the book. There was zero proof, no real confrontation, & the presumed guilty party didn’t even have full knowledge of their offense. The total avoidance with no explanation was frustrating. Then the lack of remorse after the truth was revealed, just pissed me off completely. I don’t get how one gets to handle an entire situation so immaturely, then it’s the other person’s job to grovel & “fix it.” It was hard for me to move past this.
The epilogue was cute. I was proud of Tyshawn’s growth & rediscovering his purpose after his career ending injury.
This was different, intense, hilarious, and had me swoon-worthy. Tyshawn was something else. If not anything else, he was rude, persistent, abrupt, bossy, protective, and most of all loved him so Keyana. This was definitely a love at first sight for him and a slow-burn for her.
I did think that Tyshawn was aggressive in how he chose to pursue, but it was a loving aggressiveness, if there's a such thing. On the other hand, Keyana wasn't down for all that he was portraying.
If we didn't learn anything from this read, we learned that Tyshawn was intentional. He no plans to get knocked down. Once he was in, he was there permanently. Keyana just had to catch up and let love in her hardened heart again and trust him.
The ex's of those two were pathetic individuals. They both FAFO that there was no coming back from their actions with their ex's. That trunk escapade was hilarious, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I love a good unhinged, crashout MMC and Tyshawn was it in this book. Tyshawn returns to his hometown after a injury ends his football career. He happens to go to the library where he sees Keyana working as the head librarian. Tyshawn wants Keyana as soon as he lays eyes on her. Tyshawn and his shenanigans had me laughing many, many times. It wasn't long before Keyana realized that even though Tyshawn was a little bit crazy, he was the man for her. However, Keyana did get on my nerves when she didn't communicate with Tyshawn about what ole girl (his ex) told her about him. She was totally wrong for that. I loved the mention/promotion of black authors that were included in the book. This was truly an enjoyable book to read with great character development, humor and chemistry. I highly recommend it!!
I absolutely love this book!!! I have laughed my ass off because Tyshawn is truly Mega adjacent. He doesn't care what comes out of his mouth. I damn near died when that fool called his ex "booty wrangler". And don't me started with him calling Rose "Ms. Nylund".
No matter how crazy, unbalanced, and off his meds, Tyshawn pursued Keyana with intent. He hit the gas and never let up. He broke all kinds of traffic laws. But my boy was sure and he knew exactly what he wanted and needed in his life...Keyana Armstrong.
Thank Ms. Riley B for always, always making me laugh and cry. I can't wait for your next book.
OMG… Riley got hit with the Mega Man, Menace, AND Kruda shenanigans and I was not prepared! 😂😂 This book was HILARIOUS and exactly the laugh I didn’t know I needed.
The way chaos just kept finding this man had me crying. And let’s talk about how he did NOT play about his woman; sir said, “You’re mine” and basically bullied her into a relationship and honestly? I supported it. 🤷🏾♀️🤣
Between the antics, the laugh-out-loud moments, and the unexpected sweetness, this story was pure entertainment from start to finish. If you need something fun, ridiculous, and full of personality; this is it.
I really enjoyed this story from beginning to end. Tyshawn was a nut case that kept me laughing with the things he would say out loud as well as his internal monologues and Keyana was just as nutty and funny. These two together were so cute and I enjoyed their banter. I loved how the author focused on them and them building their relationship without a lot of outside influence from family or friends. There was a little drama but the couple was able to work through it especially after Tyshawn went through drastic measures.
Hilarious and completely unhinged are how I’d describe Tyshawn 😂😂😂 He met the sweet bookworm and librarian Keyana and realizes he was overdue for love. He turns her world completely upside down. After an early retirement he’s trying to re-center his life but he realizes doing it without her is out of the cards. When a few things come up against them and he’s forced to be alone he does everything in his power to prove he’s where she belongs. It was as funny as it was sweet.
This book is hilarious. I laughed out loud because Tyshawn and Keyana both had slicks mouths. Their journey to love was just what I needed to read. Tyshawn moves home after his professional football career is derailed by an injury. He is at a crossroads regarding how to proceed work his life. He goes to the library and sees Keyana and he’s immediately enamoured. He puts on work to get that woman to admits that she’s equally as enamoured with him. This was a fantastic book. I absolutely loved it.
This book was everything!!! This was the type of love story that I needed. Talking about love at first sight? Tyshawn knew from the moment his eyes found Keyana what he wanted. I laughed so much while reading this book..Ty was on one from the preface. The banter between Ty and Key was like watching a 90s sitcom..it was that good. I could not put this book down but had to see what happened. This is definitely one for the records.
Tyshawn is one of my favorites as of today! I was sniggling and giggling a lot for this story and definitely highlighted some of the text. Thank you for sharing him with us! Little Mama should have just waived the white flag at the first interaction in the library. He had her from that point forward. I feel like we deserve 🤭 a novella or something cause they were a cute couple. And his parents 😭🤣😭🤣 And the bestie 😂😂😂😂
Hilarious from start to finish. I’ve honestly never read a book where every character was funny. Tyshawn is loud, CRAZY, chaotic, and over the top, but somehow still lovable.
Despite the madness and a little miscommunication, one thing is for sure Tyshawn loved him some Keyana.
This was a good story, had some funny aspects however midway the book it started to fall flat. I wanted to love it but a lot of the things that was happening seemed to just be thrown in there. We didn't need Antonio showing up and nothing happening. Or the Ex-girlfriend. That's when it lost me. However, it was still a good story and had a lot more potential.
TyShawn was acting like more than his ankle took an injury because he was hooked and nuts too!!!… Kayana was definitely running at every turn, even before seeing if what she was told was true!!!… I truly enjoyed this book and was so happy that the both of them got it together and were able to explore the dynamics of their relationship!!!…
I really enjoyed this book. The characters, Tyshawn and Keyana were so funny. I found myself laughing out loud throughout the book. I sure hope we get a future book with characters Mahogany and Kentrell. I appreciate Ms. Baxter and her writing style. She hits every time. Read the book!
This was a great love story. Even though Keywan got on my nerves at times with her jumping to conclusions, she was still alright in my book. Tyshawn was a different type of crazy and I loved that for her. Another good book by one of my favorites!
I love The hawk's humor and bluntness. His antics were enjoyable and his love language was beautiful. I loved the spicy moments and the love story. Definitely a good read for anyone that like a bit of hood mixed with professionalism!!
Another amazing installment from Mrs Riley Baxter! Overdue for love was absolutely amazing! I highly recommend this book and any Riley Baxter book!! you will not be disappointed!
I love the verbiage and jokes T had for every response to every thought and questions. His joyfulness was perfect. I understood had K thought he was crazy, but his determination for her love was perfect.
This was a delightful surprise!! The witty repartee and flat out crazy was a refreshing change. I'd like to see the next phase of their story, along with their family and friends. No spoilers here....you've gotta read it for yourself!
What a great love story. Keiana and Tyshawn were quite a pair. Who doesn’t need a little crazy in your life. Tyshawn was a total fool. I loved his determination when he found love. Thanks for such a wonderful love story.
A good book! Tyshawn was completely unhinged but was sure about his love for his woman. I enjoyed his antics and open heart and openness to love. Worth the read
