3.75 rounding up to 4⭐ This is my first book of Kate Breitfeller and it did not disappoint. I am usually a bit worried when I start a book by a new author because I tend to be a little picky but I honestly enjoyed it very much! I liked both characters, their connection and communication. I loved the suspense and all the plot twists. Also, the side characters really made the story better. The one thing I am not a fan of is the insta-lust trope but it’s nothing too big to trip over. I also want to read the story of the other characters, as well! 🙌🏻
3.75 ⭐️ The Crimson Vow by Kate Breitfeller was a well paced Brativa read. Thank you to Love Notes PR who gave me the opportunity to read this as an ARC.
This was my first book from Kate Breitfeller and won’t be my last.
The character and story development were good and I think I will go back and read the other book intertwined with these characters.

This Crimson Vow is An Elite Security Romantic Suspense Novel by Kate Breitfeller.
After Sera Worthington’s abusive ex attacked her with acid, she’s now focused on her mental health and recovering from the attack. On the advice of her friend Sera gathers up her courage and goes out for a night.
But Sera doesn’t go as she had hoped and she ends up finding herself fleeing into a dark alley, right into the path of a unaliver. Thankfully Sera has training with Elite Security and she’s not totally helpless and while this unaliver tries to assault her, Sera drives her heel that had broken earlier into his throat.
While Sera is preparing to leave, a Liev suddenly arrives and Sera can tell that he’s clearly bratva, and Live’s the son of the man she had just unalived in self-defence. Sera recalled meeting Liev last year, her brother’s girlfriend had been kidnapped and when she had been rescued was when the two of them had happened to briefly meet.
For some reason Sera’s shocked to learn that Liev’s prepared to take responsibility with the head of the head of the Russian mob over letting her face the head of the Russian mob herself. Liev’s told that it would be better for him to stay away from the “Family” for a while.
Liev ends up being drawn back to Sera and she offers him a job at Elite Security. And while they are sent out on an assignment together, the sparks start to fly and the chemistry between them is undeniable. But both Liev and Sera quickly realize that someone is targeting Sera – and they don’t know if it’s the bratva, her ex, her ex’s family, or someone else entirely.
Sera: This girl is one strong, intelligent, FMC. She didn’t have an easy life growing up coming from an uncaring home and then having to deal with a sadistic ex who attacked her with acid. But I have to say that she handled her trauma so much better than I would ever been able to. Her strong will to survive and her refusal to back down, even with her older brother who tends to be on the over protective side, shows just how strong she truly is and it shows just how much she knows her own mind and heart and what she truly wants for her own life.
The banter that she has with Liev is out of this world. I love the way that it’s so light hearted and it’s really rather cute. Even though Live does become overly obsessive over Sera, she is still able to put him in her place. Sera’s twist was one that I wasn’t expecting in her backstory, it wasn’t one that I was expecting to happen but I never let that stop me from enjoying this book.
Liev: He’s the typical mafia man who falls first and hard for Sera. And I melted every time he called Sera by her full name, Seraphina. And the way that he never wanted to come off overly strong with Sera but unfortunately, he managed to still come off too strong. Liev is not only obsessive but he is also DEDICATED. And you can tell that he absolutely adores Sera and he gets all mushy and gushy when he’s around her.
This is the first book by Kate Breitfeller that I have read and this is the first book in her new series and I have to say that Kate did not disappoint me. I really enjoyed getting to know both Sera and Live. Getting to see Sera heal and recover from her past trauma inflicted by her ex was beautiful. This book did not disappoint at all.
We get to see this book start with Sera in sparring training with her brother and his operatives. And you can tell right from the start that she’s still struggling with the residual physical pain from her ex’s abuse, but you can also tell that part of the pain is coming from how her scars look.
Sera confesses that she doesn’t believe anyone will ever find her attractive again because of her scars and she believes that she’s just damaged goods, sadly as much as we can tell her brother loves her to no ends of the earth, well he’s a typical man and can be incredibly tactless.
When Liev came upon Sera in that alley, she finds in him a man who is ready to meet his end to protect her, even though he’s hardly met her, hardly talked to her, he’s still willing to lay down his life for her – and from that moment on Sera finds her sense of self-worth begins to be rebuilt because of Liev and what he was willing to do for her.
Sera is worried at first that she’s just bonding to Liev over trauma, but very quickly she realizes that it’s clear that she feels something for him – and you can tell that he feels the same way for her.
It’s while they are on bodyguard duty for a difficult client that the attraction they feel deepens while they are sharing a room, Sera realizes that she feels safe with Liev and more that she feels truly desired – something she hasn’t truly felt since before her ex attacked her. I loved watching Sera’s confidence grow – even though her brother’s ill timed and poorly thought-out comments, along with some really awkward and difficult interactions with her father may have held back her healing slightly.
I found that Kate perfectly timed and placed the spice, it was earned, and it helped to make their connection feel more developed, natural, and allowed us to feel the trust between them growing. Their experiments were exceptional to watch and continued to push each of their boundaries deepening their trust in one another and proving that the other could trust that the other would protect and shield them from pain no matter what.
It was endearing to watch Liev make sure that Sera felt empowered and in control at all times. All he wanted was the opportunity to touch, kiss, and worship her and make her feel like the goddess he saw her as. And the way he managed to use his filthy mouth perfectly to keep Sera constantly blushing was just stunning. There was no way anyone could ever deny the chemistry between Liev and Sera and the more it progressed the more you realized that it was all encompassing as these two broken souls who had once been struggling to fly on their own suddenly became one and could soar to greater heights together.
I must say that this book is one that any romantic suspense lover MUST read ASAP! There are so many twists and turns in this storyline that will have you gasping on the edge of your seat.
Thank you to Kate Breitfeller & Love Notes PR for sharing a copy of this amazing book with me. It is one that I will be reading over and over again for sure.
Some of my favorite quotes are:
“You’re dangerous to my heart.” “I’ll be careful with it,” I vow.
"wait, is that Ray at the door?"
"Battle scars don't need to be hidden."
"Little Warrior, you've got to take care of your battle wounds if you're going to fight another day."
"Your heart is the most important thing in my world. Mine's tied to it now, permanently...So, I need you to take care of it."

Sera Worthington is still going through the mental recovery of an acid attack by her abusive ex when she goes out on the advice of a friend. Her night doesn't go as she hopes, and she flees the club into an alley, right into the path of a murder. Her training with Elite means she isn't entirely helpless, and as he attempts to SA her, she drives her broken heel through his throat. As she gets ready to leave, a man arrives. Clearly bratva, he just happens to be the son of the man she just killed, and he met her briefly last year after her brother's girlfriend was rescued. He is prepared to take the rap with the head of the Russian mob for what she did, and when he is temporarily asked to stay away from them for a while, Liev is drawn back to Sera, getting a job at Elite. When they are sent on an assignment together, sparks fly. But someone is targeting Sera - is it her ex's family, bratva, or someone else entirely?
I really enjoyed the first book in this series by Kate Breitfeller, and was really looking forward to getting to know Sera's character - and to seeing her recovery from her past trauma. I was not disappointed in the slightest. The book begins with her in sparring training with her brother and his operatives, and it is clear to see how much she is struggling, with residual physical pain but also the pain over how her scars look. She doesn't feel like anyone will find her attractive, like she is soiled goods, and her brother, for all of his love for her, is sometimes incredibly tactless. When Liev finds her in the alley, she discovers a man who is prepared to meet his end to protect her, even having barely met her - and her sense of self worth begins to be rebuilt steadily from then on. She's worried at first about it being a trauma bond, but it's clear very quickly that she feels something for him - and he does for her. Their attraction depends further when they share a room whilst bodyguarding a difficult client, with Sera feeling safe and desired with Liev - something which she hasn't felt since before her attack, when her ex was abusive. Seeing Sera's confidence grow - despite her brother's ill-thought out comments, and a couple of awkward interactions with her father - was a joy.
Liev, a big, brutal, Russian mobster has it bad for Sera from the second he recognises her in the alley. You see from his interactions with Alex that nobody ever expected him to settle down or go for anything more than casual, so for him to feel so deeply so quickly takes him by surprise - yet he doesn't question it. When she asks to experiment by kissing him, because she trusts him, despite all his base instincts screaming at him to take it further, he recognises what she needs, and respects that, and her. His respect for her comes not from a place of pity - he calls her Little Warrior, and considers every scar a mark of beauty and strength. He instinctively knows what she needs from him at all times, never overstepping, or infantilising her, and that only deepens her feelings for him. He makes her feel seen and cherished as she is. He acknowledges her scars - physical and mental - and adores her with them. It is a joy to read, and as someone with mental scars of her own, it is nice to believe that there could be someone willing to love me with mine.
Breitfeller very carefully lays a trail of crumbs leading up towards the realisation that Sera has been in danger since the start of the book, and she does so in a way that leaves you totally unsure whether is the Bratva or her violent ex's family behind it. I won't spoil it, but the big reveal left me stunned - and gutted for Sera too initially. It is very cleverly worked, but my only tiny gripe was it was resolved just a little too quickly - I would have liked to have a seen a bit more of Liev's torment at knowing she was missing, and even some of Sera's newfound confidence being displayed as she faced off against her attacker, demonstrating the growth of her character since the beginning of the book. That aside though, it was an excellent ending with a lot of tension.
This book was an excellent action based romance with a thriller edge, particularly as the story came towards it's conclusion, but for me, the love story was the best part. It was written with such care and respect for someone who had been through extensive trauma at the hands of another, leaving them with both physical and mental scars, without feeling overbearing or cloying. Liev treated Sera like she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, without being patronising over it, and whilst it was a quick romance, it didn't feel like she had only fallen for him because he didn't patronise her. It felt like a good match, written with thought and understanding of a situation that is unusual for most, but brutal for those experiencing it.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

Crimson Vow is a dark, twisty age gap (35M/24F) Bratva‑bodyguard romance that thrives on tension, danger, and emotional reclamation. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. I was compelled by Sera’s resilience and enamored with Leiv’s vow of devotion. It’s the kind of dark, atmospheric mafia romance where every glance feels loaded, every choice feels dangerous, and every moment between the MC’s simmers with slow‑burn intensity.
Leiv was a standout MMC for me. He’s a Bratva enforcer with a reputation sharp enough to cut, yet he treats Sera with a level of patience and consent that feels almost reverent. He’s immediately drawn to her, but he never pushes, never assumes. Every step he takes toward her is careful, intentional, protective. And when he calls her little warrior? My heart just folded. Seeing the big, bad killer on his knees for her made me swoon.
Sera was equally compelling. Strong, guarded, and shaped by trauma she refuses to let define her, she meets Leiv’s intensity with her own quiet fire. Their chemistry builds slowly, beautifully, through stolen moments, sharp banter, and the kind of tension that makes you hold your breath. Her calling him Gangster becomes this intimate thread between them, half challenge, half affection. She’s sees his past and what he does and doesn’t bat an eyelash, if anything it makes her want him more. She feels seen and cherished, even beautiful in Leiv’s eyes because he sees her scars as badges of her bravery and resilience.
The bodyguard assignment is where everything ignites. Forced proximity, shared danger, and the constant awareness that her ex’s powerful family is circling like sharks. The suspense is tight, the plot twists hit hard, and the emotional stakes rise with every chapter. The romance never overshadows the danger, and the danger never overshadows the healing, it’s all woven together seamlessly.
The spice is perfectly timed, perfectly earned, and deeply connected to their trust and growth. I loved seeing as their experiments continued to push the boundaries. Leiv ensured that Sera felt empowered and in control. He just wanted any opportunity to kiss, touch, and worship her. I loved Leiv’s filthy mouth and how it made Sera constantly blush. I was blushing too. The chemistry between these two was instantaneous and as it continued to progress became all encompassing, two broken souls became one.
“You’re dangerous to my heart.” “I’ll be careful with it,” I vow.
This is a must read for romantic suspense lovers! There’s lots of twists and turns that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
A huge thank you to Kate Breitfeller & Love Notes PR for the early copy!
This Crimson Vow: A Morally Grey Romantic Suspense by Kate Breitfeller completely pulled me into its dark and dangerous world and kept me hooked from beginning to end. This story is intense, emotional, and packed with the kind of chemistry that makes every page feel electric.
From the moment the heroine’s worst night turns into an unexpected encounter with the mysterious Bratva enforcer, the tension in this story is undeniable. Their connection is immediate but complicated, layered with history, secrets, and the kind of pull that neither of them can seem to escape. What starts as a desperate moment quickly turns into something much deeper and far more dangerous.
The hero is the definition of morally gray. Protective, ruthless when he needs to be, and completely captivating. He walks that perfect line between dangerous and devoted, and the way he quietly steps in to protect her had me completely invested in his character. Beneath the hardened exterior there is a depth to him that slowly unfolds as the story progresses, making every moment between them even more powerful. I also loved the strength of the heroine. She carries the weight of her past but refuses to let it define her. Watching her navigate fear, attraction, and the complicated emotions that come with trusting someone like him made her feel incredibly real. Their forced proximity and shared secrets create this simmering slow burn that builds beautifully as the story unfolds.
The suspense element adds another gripping layer to the romance. There is a constant feeling that danger is closing in, and not knowing who the real target is keeps the tension high throughout the entire book. Every twist made the stakes feel higher and the emotional payoff even more satisfying. Kate Breitfeller delivered a dark, passionate, and suspenseful romance that is impossible to put down. If you love morally gray heroes, protective Bratva men, forced proximity, and a slow burn that turns intensely passionate, this book is absolutely one you need on your TBR.
This was easily a five star read for me and I cannot wait to see what comes next from this author.
Just finished reading an advanced copy of a book that was just released on March 20th called, This Crimson Vow. This is about Sera, when she is in the wrong place at the wrong time and suddenly her life is on the line, the man who shows up and helps her is Liev. He is Bratva, a part of the Russian mob. He has no reason to help her and should actually hate her, but he is willing to take the fall for what just happened to protect Sera. The Crimson Vow is formed and now Sera owes him. When he is forced to step away from his position in the Bratva until things cool down, Sera offers him a job as a bodyguard at her brother's business. Except that the job Liev is assigned to suddenly needs two bodyguards so Sera is being sent along. Now these two are spending the next two weeks working together and sharing hotel rooms, while babysitting a wild supermodel. Sera is trying to convince herself she doesn't want Liev, while Liev is using this time together to convince her to give him a chance. But there is a much bigger threat than the dangers of this bodyguard job, and it's lurking closer to them than they think. OMG this book was absolutely incredible! This is book two and I was so excited to get Sera and Liev's story! Sera is dealing with past trauma and when she opens up to Liev he doesn't back away. He stands strong by her side as she deals with it and he becomes a constant in her life while giving her the time and space she needs to heal. It was so well written! The chemistry between these two was absolutely off the charts! This was a slow burn and it was so perfectly executed, the feelings they had for each other was immediate but they took their time opening up, getting to know each other, and falling in love. It made their connection feel so strong and genuine. This story was the perfect combination of romance and suspense, it had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish! I can't get enough of Kate's writing, her books completely captivate me every single time! I couldn't love this book more! ❤️📚
Thank you to the author and LoveNotesPR for this ARC of This Crimson Vow, in exchange for an honest review.
If you are looking for a book with slow burn and high tension and a strong FMC, this is the book for you. This Crimson Vow is book 2 in the Elite Security series by Kate Breitfeller; it is an interconnected standalone, and I would recommend reading book 1 before reading book 2. Firstly, I would like to thank Love Notes, Pr, and Kate Breitfeller for an ARC. Importantly, this book does contain some triggering content, so please check trigger/ content warnings before reading.
This Crimson vow is a read that will have you hooked from start to finish. This book was written beautifully; there were so many things that I did not expect to happen. The high tension and slow burn were a perfect mix, which built up so much anticipation. Each storyline and component was done really well. The story unfolded in ways I did not expect, and the plot twist at the end had me in shock. The side characters also added so much to the story. I recommend reading book 1 before book 2; however, you don't have to, just my recommendation. I overall absolutely loved this story and highly recommend it.
Sera and Liev's relationship shows that healing sometimes is not what you would expect, taking it slow, such as getting to know and trust each other. I loved how their relationship played out and how supportive they were of each other when they needed it. Sera's character showed so much strength for what she went through, and showed that sometimes the scars can be both physical and mental. I loved seeing her become such a badass woman, too, especially in the casino/ Vegas scene. Levi has become one of my top 10 book boyfriends. He is such a supportive boyfriend and is willing to take things slow for her. There are so many things I could talk about with these characters, but I will leave it here. Hope you all pick this up on release day, 20/03/2026. Happy reading.
A vow forged in blood and darkness… and a chemistry as dangerous as the man promising to protect me.
Wow. The way this book absolutely hooked my from the start - the concept was a unique twist on a mafia romance that worked sooooo well!
This romantic suspense will have you on the edge of you’re seat waiting to see what will come of the crimson vow tying Sera and Leiv together.I love when there are strong FMC’s in addition to a protective and supportive MMC - this book delivered. Sera (Seraphina) has been through a lot the past 4 years, taking time to heal and get back to whatever her new normal will be. She took a job with her brother’s company, Elite Security, working on analytics and assignment preparation for operatives. She is happy with her job, however her personal life is vacant - it’s been so long. One night she decides to go out to the club and find a man to take home, an effort to end her dry spell. However, things take a turn for the worse in a alley behind said club where she has to put her life in the hands of a man she barely knows anything about; only thing she does - he’s in the bratva.
This second encounter with Seraphina, up close and personal, floods Leiv with feelings he’s never had & he wants more. He will do anything to be closer to her - be with her - and make her fall in love with him? Maybe, he doesn’t know exactly what he wants other than he needs to be close to her. The only way to do so - take a sabbatical from the bratva and work at Elite security in hopes to satiate the need to be near her.
AHHHHHH you will love this Bodyguard x Bodyguard spin to the mafia trope. I ate this up in less than 20 hours & I desperately need more. I will be going back and reading about the previous couples from other series that were introduced.
Tropes to Expect: 🥰Romantic Suspense 🖤Morally Black Bratva Protector ❤️🩹Strong FMC healing from trauma 🤫Shared Secret 💕Forced Proximity 🕰️Age Gap (mid 30s-early 20s) 🔥Extreme high heat slow burn 💀Touch Her and Die
Thank you LoveNotes PR and Kate Breitfeller for allowing me an audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I absolutely loved everything about this story. It perfectly blends elements of billionaire romance with the intensity of a mafia storyline, creating a balance that feels just right. Neither aspect overpowers the other; instead, they work together to create a compelling and immersive narrative that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. Both Sera and Liev are wonderfully complex characters, each carrying their own depth, struggles, and emotional layers. What stood out the most to me was the way Liev understands Sera. Their connection is written so beautifully and thoughtfully that it feels genuine and earned. The author captures their dynamic with such precision that every interaction between them feels meaningful and adds to the overall emotional weight of the story. The twists throughout the book were incredibly well done and kept me constantly on edge. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, something unexpected would happen that pulled me even deeper into the plot. It made the book almost impossible to put down because I always wanted to know what would happen next. Another highlight was the gradual development of their relationship. The story takes its time building their connection, allowing the chemistry between them to grow naturally. Their understanding of each other evolves in a way that feels authentic, and watching their relationship unfold was incredibly satisfying. The slow build of tension, emotion, and attraction made every moment between them feel even more powerful. From the very first page, I was completely invested in the story and the characters. The pacing, the emotional depth, and the intensity of the plot all come together to create a truly engaging reading experience. It’s the kind of book that pulls you in immediately and doesn’t let go until the very end.
- Romantic suspense - Close proximity - He falls first - Workplace romance - Br@tv@ romance - Age gap
I have read many of this author's books and I have never been disappointed. She writes romantic suspense so well that I can never put her books down. The characters are complex, but relatable. The plots are full of action and intrigue. I will never stop reading her books.
This book is a spinoff of the Bloom series (go back and read those if you haven't yet. You will thank me later) and features survivor Sera. In previous books, we have met Sera, who was doused with @c1d by her former boyfriend. She is rightfully wary of getting into another relationship. However, when a night out trying to find elusive happiness turns into a scene from a movie, Liev, a Br@tv@ member and acquaintance of Sera's brother Brady, happens upon the incident and knows he will do anything to help Sera with the fallout of the situation.
Liev has watched Sera from afar for a while, but due to his employment, hasn't reached out to initiate anything. Now he decides to make his intentions known while he has some down time. Namely, he takes a job at the Elite Security group to be closer to Sera and show her that she can rely on him. He even nicknames her Little Warrior because he recognizes her as the strong woman she is.
The book keeps us captivated as Liev and Sera work their security detail with a spoiled model and become closer. It was so beautiful seeing Sera taking back her confidence and Liev supporting her, but letting her work through a lot of it on her own. He stepped in when he could tell she needed it, but also showed her that he knew she could do things on her own.
Sera's past comes back to challenge her throughout the book and I thought the author guided us through the twists beautifully. I was not expecting some of the things, which always makes me happy.
First and foremost, thank you to Kate Breitfeller and LoveNotes for the eARC, I'm absolutely ecstatic that I took part in the ARC process of your upcoming release.
I usually don't read Mafia/Bratva romance books as I feel like I've read enough while I was in my Wattpad era, but sometimes, there are authors who know how to tackle a topic to make it less cliche. And Kate is one of those authors.
This book took an overly used trope and turned into an original, steamy and absolutely addicting suspensful romance I couldn't put down. I wanted more of Liev and Sera's story, more of their bond and love.
I adored how patient and caring Liev was towards Sera. He was the perfect gentleman who not only understood Sera's trauma but treated her like an equal not a damsel in distress. He would burn down the world for her by letting her lit the match.
We love equal partners in crime. We like a badass MMC, but we're absolutely feral for a kickass FMC who takes no bullshit, does her job and keeps in check a big bad made man.
Sera's character development was done amazingly, it wasn't rushed, and it made the story that much better. Everything in this book was great.
I absolutely recommend reading this book to any dark romance junkie, or to anyone who's looking for a gateway to the genre.
PS: While Keke was annoyingly dramatic, she made this book that much better. Iconic like Regina George, I would say.
🖤Romantic Suspense 🖤Morally Grey Bratva Protector 🖤Strong FMC healing from trauma 🖤Shared Secret 🖤Age gap (mid 30s - early 20s) 🖤Extreme high heat slow burn 🖤Touch her and die
I was sucked into this book from the moment I picked it up. I couldn’t put it down. Every time I turned a page, there was something happening that made it impossible to stop reading. I ended up finishing it in one sitting! I was so relieved when I saw there were more stories connected to it.
Sera is an absolute badass. Experiencing something so horrific could easily leave someone jaded, angry, or completely defeated—but not Sera. She comes back stronger while still being portrayed as a very real human being learning to navigate her emotions and heal. I really appreciated seeing her work through things like immersion therapy—facing her fears slowly and intentionally as she tries to reclaim her strength while also struggling through panic and questioning her decisions. It gave the character a very real, human depth.
Leiv is… well, he’s HOT. The pet names (which they both use) are hilarious and perfectly suited—I found myself giggling every time they came up. While he comes across as intimidating and powerful, there’s also a deep awareness in the way he notices even the smallest shifts in body language or emotion. You can see how deeply he’s capable of loving from the very beginning, especially in the way he interacts with and understands his mother.
The writing is detailed enough that you can truly feel the scenes and visualize everything happening. The twists in the story are just right—you’ll find yourself either thinking “I knew it!” or being completely surprised by what unfolds.
Overall, this was an incredibly engaging read that kept me hooked from beginning to end—and it now lives in my brain until I start the next one!
This was my first book by this author and wow what a book to start with! I was intrigued by the plot; I love a mafia/millionaire book but this one had even more.
Sera was attacked by her ex and has significant scarring from the acid attack. She works for her brother at Elite Security. She’s more behind the scenes for security jobs. She’s dealing with the traumatic attack, going to therapy and trying to become more social.
Liev is a high ranking Bratva. He met Sera a year ago and found her very attractive. He meets Sera again, but in the back alley of one of his clubs, in quite a predicament. He makes a choice to protect her, even though it puts his life in danger.
With no choice but to lay low for a while from the Bratva, he gets a job at Elite Security. Sera and him are forced into a job together; traveling and providing security for a model. Several instances of one room, one bed, etc.
I really liked this book/stayed up way too late to finish it. I would almost classify this as a slow burn; it’s insta-attraction however, but it was nice the MC’s took their time. Liev is extremely caring and patient with Sera overcoming her trauma.
There’s lots of action in the book and enough conflict to keep you turning the pages. My only con, the ending resolutions felt a little quick. There was lots of lead up and things wrapped up nicely but quickly.
I was fortunate to receive a sneak peak of the book from LoveNotes
I received this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This Crimson Vow was my first time jumping into a Bratva romance. I really enjoyed the FMC Sera and found her character arc deep, evolving, and refreshing.
Our character has a tragic backstory that has shaped her fragility in her older brother's eyes, the owner and main tough guy at Elite Security. We see Sera stoically challenging the narratives written for her, finding her strength when others expect weakness, and pushing forward when the world wants to put her in a corner and keep her safe.
Liev is the MMC and bigger tough guy of the local Russian Bratva, moonlighting as a bodyguard for Elite Security (he says it's for money, it isn't - you just have to read it!)
Liev and Sera are sent on a job (that her brother absolutely LOATHES) to protect an A-List supermodel with the personality of a purse-dog in heat. She's vile and annoying, but she sets the scene for two weeks filled with yearning, and the 'touch her and die' moments we all devour.
I was enjoying the rather cozy vibe of the book until PLOT TWIST! and wait, that shocked you, PLOT TWIST AGAIN! If that wasn't good enough... "wait, is that Ray at the door?", queue the tears...
Great book! Give it a go. I can't wait to jump into more novels by Kate Breitfeller. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book!
ARC review Thank you to the author for this ARC of This Crimson Vow check TWs: your mental health matters
4.5 stars "Battle scars don't need to be hidden."
This Crimsom Vow has everything I love about mafia romances. Just the right amount of banter, obsession, blood, and romance.
Sera is one badass FMC. Her backstory is tragic but she deals with her trauma quite well. She is very strong willed and doesn't back down even with her over protective older brother. I love the banter she has with Liev. It is so light hearted and cute. Even though Liev became super obsessive over her, she still put him in his place. I was expecting the twist with her backstory to happen but it didn't deter from the enjoyment of the book.
"Little Warrior, you've got to take care of your battle wounds if you're going to fight another day."
Liev, is the typical mafia man who falls first and hard. Every time he called Sera by her full name, Seraphina, your heart just melts. I loved that he didn't want to come off too strong with her but he immediately did. Liev is also DEDICATED. And he just adores Sera and gets all gushy around her.
"Your heart is the most important thing in my world. Mine's tied to it now, permanently...So, I need you to take care of it."
I was sucked into this book from the moment I picked it up. I couldn’t put it down. Every time I turned a page, there was something happening that made it impossible to stop reading. I ended up finishing it in one sitting!
Sera is an absolute badass. Experiencing something so horrific could easily leave someone jaded, angry, or completely defeated. She comes back stronger while still being portrayed as a very real human being learning to navigate her emotions and heal. I really appreciated seeing her work through things like immersion therapy - facing her fears slowly and intentionally as she tries to reclaim her strength while also struggling through panic and questioning her decisions. It gave the character a very real, human depth.
Leiv is 🔥🔥.
Overall, this was an incredibly engaging read that kept me hooked from beginning to end.
“This is when I know I’d hand her my soul on a silver platter without a second thought if she asked”
Thank you Kate Breitfeller and LoveNotesPR for the ARC; these thoughts and opinions are all my own.
I entered the world of Sera and Liev apprehensive due to the tropes not being my usual go to because I feel like mafia/bratva stories need to be executed properly and WOW this truly was! I started and finished it in one day and I have a book hangover because I’m so sad it’s over. Did I google how to pronounce Liev properly… yes lol. The spice was a slowburn, but ohhhhh when it burned it burned hot and heavy 🔥
Sera is a total bad ass, I felt like her character development wasn’t rushed and it made the story that much better. Liev would truly burn the world to the ground for her. He never denied who he was and he let her take all the control which made him *perfection*. He had the touch her and die vibes, but also let her be independent; I love them!!
Keke wasn’t my favourite character BUT the way Sera and Liev handle her was great! I also loved all the side characters in their respective families. I will be (not so) patiently for Finn’s story next!
What is it about fictional Russians that just hit the spot?? I'm telling you now this one does it for you. If you want a true he falls first and hard in a story This Crimson Vow is it. “𝕐𝕠𝕦’𝕣𝕖 𝕕𝕒𝕟𝕘𝕖𝕣𝕠𝕦𝕤 𝕥𝕠 𝕞𝕪 𝕙𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕥.” “𝕀’𝕝𝕝 𝕓𝕖 𝕔𝕒𝕣𝕖𝕗𝕦𝕝 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝕚𝕥,” 𝕀 𝕧𝕠𝕨
You've got comedy, you've got pure devotion and you've got spice all rolled into a mafia/bravata romance. The characters were amazing, you can't help not connect with them. The plot was amazing!! I didnt want it to end, I need more Liev and Sera! Their love story is going down into my book of epic fictional love stories!! My man Liev, he's swooned me!! How he empowered Sera to embrace her scars 🥺 I need a big scary Russian in my life after reading this one.
Thank you to LovenotesPR and Kate breitfeller for the E-ARC in exchanged for my honest opinion!
Sera, our fmc, the fierce, bold girl, who is also a survivor from something from her past, who is not able to get intimate, now find herself attractive to a very handsome and dangerous man.
Liev, our mmc, the enforcer bravta, who is obsessed with the black cat girl with sharp tongue 😌.
The story starts with.... Well Sera killing Liev's father and he immediately become obsessed and fall for her😌.
Liev plan to stay close to her so he asked her to give him a job in her brother's company because he need money (he totally did not) and he get the job, the problem? Well her brother do not like him.
The way Liev understand what Sera needs and always supports her🥹. Man was ready to die for her😭
I literally love the characters here💗. The banter, emotions, everything was perfect. And the plot? THE PLOT!!!!! I totally did not see that coming 😭❤.
Liev, my man, I NEED A LIEV IN MY LIFE😩 Plus I get to see my husband Alex💅 (I was blushing, giggling and kicking my feet😌)
LIEV AND SERA HAVE MY HEART AND I DON'T EVEN WANT IT BACK😭 they are now babies forever ❤🥺.

First, I'd like to thank Love Notes PR and Author Kate Breitfeller, for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
The overall story was fascinating, loved the mixture of bodyguard meets Mafia. Sera's growth throughout the book is inspirational for women who face DV. Learning to overcome that part of your life to find someone you can trust wholeheartedly. Leiv was definitely her person. I loved how patient he was with her, how he knew what she needed, without her telling him.
I really liked how flipping each other off is their love language. I kind of wish we got more of Mikhail, because he seemed like a really interesting character, especially how he knew about Liev and Sera's little trip to a chapel. That part had me laughing.
I will say this: at first, I was a bit confused because I really didn't understand what was happening, but by chapters 2 and 3, the story started to explain a few things, which helped. By the end of chapter 3, the story really picks up, and from there on, it pulls you in.
One thing i did not know about until i was halv=fe way throught the book is that this is techinaclly book 2.
I went into This Crimson Vow expecting something dark, emotional, and slightly unhinged—and honestly, it delivered that atmosphere right from the start, pulling me in immediately and making it such a great, quick read.
What I really loved about this story was the dynamic between Liev and Sera. Liev brought a lighter, more playful energy that balanced everything out perfectly, making their connection feel refreshing and genuine rather than overly heavy.
Sera’s journey stood out to me the most. The way the story handled her return to intimacy after a traumatic past felt both realistic and emotional, while also highlighting her strength. She comes across as incredibly resilient and fearless—someone who refuses to be broken by what she’s been through—which made her character even more powerful to read.
The plot kept things interesting with well-placed twists that genuinely caught my attention, and the ending delivered exactly the kind of satisfaction you hope for after such a journey.
Overall, a fast-paced, engaging story with emotional depth, a refreshing relationship dynamic, and a strong female lead that really leaves an impression.
The slow burn was just perfect, the pace of the story was great, everything worked well and didn’t feel like anything was missed.
Sera is a badass FMC and I loved how much she fought for herself. Her connection with Liev was amazing, being able to built her trust with herself and him.
Liev I loved him, he fell hard and he was in it for the long run. He is Bratva and didn’t think he’d ever fall for someone, but he has a lot to work through to get to that point.
The story surprised me at each turn, the suspense kept me wanting to read more, the connection growing between Liev and Sera, seeing the growth, the family around both characters I loved! Overall it was perfect romantic suspense, it does have dark themes which are written very well. If you fancy an age gap, romantic suspense with bratva and dark themes which will pull you in, this is the book for you!
Favourite Quote: “the two of us might be psychos…but at least we’re psychos with a sense of humour”
Thank you LoveNotes PR and Kate for the ARC copy of this book.
After finishing book one, I needed Sera to get a love interest who could match her strength without trying to overpower it - and Kate absolutely delivered.
Sera is fiercely independent, shaped in part by an overprotective brother, and the last thing she needs is another man trying to control her or tell her what’s best. Enter Liev and his immediate "touch her and die" energy. He’s not trying to stand in front of her or make her smaller; he’s firmly by her side, protecting her without taking away her independence. He's loyal from day one, and fully ready to take down anyone who threatens her peace - including her big bro if necessary.
He sees through her scars and shows her that there's beauty in them showing how big of a softy he is behind his Mafia gangster shell, and in return, Sera lets her guard down just enough to protect his softer side too.
I laughed, and cried, and couldn't put this book down until it was done.
Thank you Kate Breitfeller and LoveNotes PR for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I love that fun, yet still somewhat dark, mafia romances are coming back into my life!
Breathe, Gangster. You look like you're about to pass out. And you are way too big for me to carry."
This Crimson Vow bursts through my expectations. I laughed, I teared up, I fell in love. Kate captures you from the first chapter (iykyk) and entraps your attention through the rest of the story.
Liev and Sera are scorching-hot yet so sweet. Their friendship makes your heart melt and their love sets you on fire. Liev is a man obsessed and will do anything to keep Sera safe. Sera is a kick-ass woman who can hold her own, yet her vulnerability with Liev makes you want to wrap her up. The way they protect each other and are there for each other no matter what cements your love for their relationship.
What to expect -> mafia/bravata romance -> he falls first -> age-gap -> one bed -> forced proximity -> touch her and die
I loved, loved This Crimson Vow by Kate Breitfeller. From the very first pages, it pulled me in with its mix of suspense, danger, and that addictive mafia edge that keeps you turning pages way past bedtime.
Liev and Sera completely owned this story for me. Liev? Absolutely gone for him. The way he always saw Sera’s strength—even in the moments she doubted herself—just hit so hard. That unwavering belief added so much depth to their dynamic and made every moment between them even more powerful.
And Sera… watching her come into her own, step into her strength, and hold her ground in such a dangerous world? So satisfying.
The pacing was fast, the tension was high, and the chemistry? Let’s just say the spice delivered 👀🔥
If you love: ✨ Mafia romance ✨ Protective but perceptive MMCs ✨ Strong FMCs finding their power ✨ Suspense + romance blended perfectly …you need this on your TBR.
This was such a fun, addictive read, and I already know I’ll be coming back for more from this Kate!
Sera has been through a traumatic experience and struggles to connect with men in general, but one night changes everything. When she meets Liev in a dark alleyway after fighting for her life, she doesn't expect to feel something for him. She trusts him and wants to experiment to see if she can feel like herself again. Liev is obsessed with Sera and will do anything to make her his, including lying so he can work closer to her. I really enjoyed this book and instantly fell in love with the characters. Liev is a possessive Bratva man who becomes obsessed with protecting Sera and making her fall in love with him. Even through their witty banter, these two have an instant connection; they are perfect for each other. There are many twists in the book that you don't see coming, and they definitely shock you once all is revealed.
Thank you to Kate Breitfeller and LoveNotes for the eARC! I’m so appreciative that you allowed me to take part in reviewing your book as part of your release.
”You’re dangerous to my heart.” ”I’ll be careful with it,” I vow.

wow wow wow WOWWW. this book was so addicting, I could not put it down!! I read this so fast; the pacing is incredible, and there is action and suspense in every aspect of this story.
if you love Rina Kent’s books & writing, you will love this book. I’m sooo excited that this is connected to other books so that I can stay within this world.
Liev and Sera are such a perfect match, and I will always love an MMC that recognizes how badass his woman it 🙂↕️
ARC REVIEW ✨ tropes - scarred black cat fmc, morally black bratva mmc, one bed, forced proximity, trauma healing.
Book was definitely intriguing from the start. Liev's character was quite interesting - bratva, morally black guy!?? Yess, I'll have him please!! Got me hooked up since page one ngl. Initially I expected Sera's character to be lil shy and dissociated character as usual scarred fmcs but nahh the author definitely nailed it in giving her the spirit that sparked my whole interest in story. Her character was my most favorite, her feistyness, her Lil claws, strong will definitely caught my heart. And also LITTLE WARRIOR might be my new fav fictional endearment 😏. That lil side character of ✨model✨ loved that, she was a charm no doubt there. Can't wait to get hands on the next one in the series 🩷
Crimson Vow was an intense, addictive dark romance that delivered on both emotional depth and plot twists.
The dynamic between Sera and Liev was one of my favorite parts of the story. Despite her past trauma, he never treated her as fragile—he respected her strength while still being fiercely protective.
Their relationship built on trust, protection, and emotional healing, which made the progression feel impactful.
The story also balanced romance with high-stakes external conflict, especially with the Bratva elements and the unfolding mystery behind the events surrounding them.
The twists toward the end—particularly the revelations involving Aaron and Hannah—completely shifted the story and kept me fully engaged.
