Franklin W. Dixon is the pen name used by a variety of different authors who were part of a team that wrote The Hardy Boys novels for the Stratemeyer Syndicate (now owned by Simon & Schuster). Dixon was also the writer attributed for the Ted Scott Flying Stories series, published by Grosset & Dunlap.
Canadian author Leslie McFarlane is believed to have written the first sixteen Hardy Boys books, but worked to a detailed plot and character outline for each story. The outlines are believed to have originated with Edward Stratemeyer, with later books outlined by his daughters Edna C. Squier and Harriet Stratemeyer Adams. Edward and Harriet also edited all books in the series through the mid-1960s. Other writers of the original books include MacFarlane's wife Amy, John Button, Andrew E. Svenson, and Adams herself; most of the outlines were done by Adams and Svenson. A number of other writers and editors were recruited to revise the outlines and update the texts in line with a more modern sensibility, starting in the late 1950s.
The principal author for the Ted Scott books was John W. Duffield.

This was my second fom the Hardy Boys and I found it way too interesting than the previous one.

Joe and Frank Hardy - the detective brothers from ATAC - are again called into action but this time by a ghost. A detention center for teens is rumored to be haunted, causing two deaths and a suicide who were sentenced there. The case goes to the ATAC department and from there it goes to the Hardy Boys who are asked to go undercover in the detention center and solve the mystery. The two brothers search and investigate as they run through the various names added to their suspect list to find out who the real ghost is... as it turns out to be.

Very interestingly plotted by the author, the story never fails from making one to turn the pages. Each chapter is narrated by the point of view of one of the brothers which, I found, pretty invovling. The book is spooky as well as funny at quite a few places.

Not a bad option to pick.

I’m a sucker for a good ghost story, and this was a fun one. I always enjoy reading about Frank and Joe, and I love when they chime into each other’s chapters and bug each other. The dual POV works really well with this mystery because we have Frank who doesn’t believe in ghosts and Joe who does.
The hauntings were eerie and unsettling, and the scene was set well. The seances were intriguing and definitely added to the story. I liked trying to figure out what was happening.
There were some interesting characters in this one, and I liked the juvenile detention center aspect of the setting. It added an extra layer to the mystery because it gave more interesting suspects and also meant that it had to be from the inside.
This was a quick and good mystery with some creepy moments.

The Hardy Boys
Haunted

Genre-Mystery

This book was written by Franklin W.Dixon. It is published by Alladin. This book is a part of the hardy boys series. Hardy boys is about 2 brothers “Joe” and “Frank”. Their father is a secret undercover agent and he makes their sons an agent too. But it’s a father son secret.

In this book, their mission is to find out murderers of 2 people who died. Their names were “Maryama Soll and Gregory Teeter”. They have been murdered in a place called undercliff asylum, where students go when suspended from school. So they meet many people, many who look like suspects, the people say that undercliff is haunted. People say that Maryama and Gregory were killed by a ghost, named Moses.

I like this book because it is one of my favourite genres and it also had a balance of humour and seriousness.

My 5 year old loved this book. He liked how the chapters changed between the two brothers and loved the suspense. He would stop what he was doing when it was time to read and beg for me to read just one more chapter!

A Hauntingly Fun Mystery for Young Readers

Haunted is an exciting and spooky mystery in the classic Hardy Boys series, perfect for young readers who enjoy a blend of detective work and supernatural thrills. The story follows Frank and Joe Hardy as they investigate strange occurrences at Undercliff House, a former insane asylum turned juvenile detention center. With its eerie setting and spine-tingling suspense, Haunted keeps you hooked from start to finish.
What I loved most about the book is the balance between logical detective work and supernatural intrigue. The Hardy brothers tackle the case with their usual mix of logic and intuition—Frank, the analytical thinker, and Joe, guided more by gut feelings. This dynamic not only makes the story engaging but also highlights the importance of teamwork in solving mysteries.
The pacing is spot-on, with each chapter ending in a cliffhanger that leaves you eager to see what happens next. The creepy atmosphere of the old asylum adds an extra layer of tension, making it a great read for fans of ghost stories.
While I enjoyed the book overall, some dialogue felt a bit outdated, reflecting the long history of the series. Despite this, Haunted is a fun and engaging read that blends mystery, adventure, and a touch of the supernatural. Highly recommended for young mystery lovers!

When I first read Hardy Boys, I think I was in class 5, I had such a crush on Frank Hardy. I liked the brainy one over the brawny one and that sums up my first impression of Hardy Boys.
In their late teens, Frank and Joe Hardy take after their detective father Fenton Hardy. Frank is the older of the two and has more breakthroughs in the cases because he is the brainy one. Joe is the younger brother who more often than not is useful when things get hot and they need to fight their way out.
Like Nancy Drew, the books in the The Hardy Boys series re written by ghostwriters under the collective pseudonym Franklin W. Dixon. And yes, the earlier books were better than the latter ones.

the hardy boys are at it again, but this time, things are getting spookier! the brothers have been assigned to a detention facility for troubled teens to investigate two very mysterious murders....

The Hardy boys books are books for all ages. it has a mixture of suspense, action, and complexity that intices the reader and makes him/her want to read all of the series. Franklin Dixon manages to add suspense to the story while still giving off hints to the readers. also, by having the brothers alternate chapters(they tell the story from their point of view), Dixon gives the reader insight into the minds of both main characters.

there are a number of suspects already on the boy's list, but even more are added along the way. how can the brothers deduce who killed those kids when so many people have so many motives? you know, it's always the last person you think of.........

In Haunted, ATAC sends Frank and Joe to investigate the deaths of two kids at a juvenile detention centre. Both dead kids seem to have died of fright. Frank and Joe go undercover as juvenile delinquents themselves to see what is going on in a building that is supposedly haunted and where ghost stories flourish. Good novel to read before Halloween.
