Lara and Trevor flee Seattle in the wake of rising chaos. Like raptors drawn to road kill, demons converge on what’s left of civilization, urging it to implode even faster.
In this final book of the Soul Storm series, Lara and Trevor’s relationship undergoes stresses that threaten to annihilate them. Constantly hungry, besieged by dark forces, they need every resource they’ve developed as a couple to keep from ripping each other apart. With her mentors snared in a chokehold by Goblins, Lara has only her half-baked magic standing between survival and certain death for herself, her love, and their unborn child.
The remote location that was supposed to solve all their problems has done anything but. Though she works diligently, Lara’s crash course in magic proves woefully inadequate. Trevor’s determined to protect his family, but he’s developed a decidedly haunted edge from all the carnage.
When he’s captured by demons, Lara curses their decision to leave Seattle, risks everything to go after him, and falls headlong into a cunningly crafted trap.

4.5 stars! Stunning conclusion to the Soul Storm trilogy.
Fans of the series need to be ready for some surprising developments with this last installment of the series. Each book got progressively better as the story developed.
I laughed and cried and bemoaned the characters' choices and decisions which tells me how into the series and characters I was. I lost myself in the overall story and now feel a little bereft that it is over. This trilogy has stayed in my mind since I finished it a couple weeks ago.
Ah… The things we'll do for love… The human main characters sometimes do TSTL things even though they are not stupid people. You just want to shake some sense into them, but they never learn when one of the others is involved. They cease to think and just act. But don’t we all sometimes? This is one of the things that helps to make the characters so believable.
This trilogy reminds me Ann Gimpel always twists the mythos and genres in interesting and unusual ways. She isn't afraid to let the main characters get physically hurt with injuries that don't heal with supernatural speed and occasionally not at all, and she isn't afraid to let the story get dark.
Gimpel is on my “must read” list. If you like paranormal romance, fantasy, and/or urban fantasy and don’t want the same old shifters, Fae, gods and goddesses, you should be reading Ann Gimpel.

Holy moly! This is a definite nail bitter! I can't tell you enough how much this book held my attention and had my imagination going wild. This is the last book and it shows how much Trevor is willing to do for his family. This book made me cry. I loved it and can't wait to read more of Ann Gimpel's books!
Dark Promise is the third and final book in the Soul Storm series. The book should not be read as a standalone as it starts right where Book Two ended. There is violence.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. The author did a great job of explaining t has happened in the world and what is happening with the main characters. The storyline will keep you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. It definitely kept me riveted and reading. I enjoyed this series!
Book 3 of the series and the final book takes you to a place where what if's and takes you to an alternate world. Psychology and paranormal are included, for those of us who love celtic myths. it will keep you reading waiting for what happens next. A very well written story that keeps you reading till you hit the end. Very hard to put down. Gotta love the magic reading brings you from such a well written story
**The Review of Dark Promise may contain Book 1 & 2 Spoilers.
Dark Promise concludes the Soul Storm series in epic fashion. The HEA (happily ever after) ending caused me to sob into my pillow at 1:30am EST....but don't let my outburst cause you not to read this excellent conclusion to Ann Gimpel's Soul Storm trilogy.
Sometimes the choices we make would have been better left unmade.
So many things happen in Dark Promise that cause Lara to wonder if they should have just taken their chances with the thugs in the city. Moving to the secluded land when neither Lara nor Trevor know anything about surviving off of the land and all that encompasses should have been a huge red flag. When the Goblins invade and Trevor is kidnapped by Gradoxst, it is only when Lara tries to rescue him that she realizes that Trevor was just a means to an end.
The story is a gritty and well-written pre-apocalyptic novel that masterfully weaves in urban fantasy, paranormal, and the fantasy realm that legends are born into. The world that Ann created is so realistic that as I read it I found myself wondering if the non-paranormal elements of the story (the worldwide lack of fuel, food, sanity) could be right around the corner for us. The Soul Storm series is very creative and thought-provoking.
Lara and Trevor both attempt to acclimate to their new home and surroundings but everything is completely overwhelming. The stresses of their new life and the evil that follow are almost too much to handle. Like any couple, there are bound to be disagreements and arguments. Lara and Trevor prove to be a very strong super-couple, weathering the storm that has become their everyday life.
Sometimes you have to make decisions that will affect everyone for the rest of their lives - how however long that may be.
Dark Pursuit will draw you in and keep you engaged from start to finish. There is so much going on but it's laid out well and paced perfectly. Between the end of the world theme, Lara's heritage, and Trevor's past there isn't a dull moment. There are twists and turns around many bends and the suspense is high. Be ready to devote an entire day to this novel because you won't want to put it down until you're done.
I read Book 3 a week ago and the entire series still resonates within me. I empathize with Lara - she had to give up her practice, her home, and everything she knew in hopes of staying safe and out of the wrong hands. Trevor's love for Lara was so genuine and believable that I felt all of his emotions - worry, fear, anxiety, etc. when the strange occurrences ~ paranormal or not ~ came knocking on her door. Brad, the police officer, had to deal with the kidnapping, possession, and untimely death of his daughter and I was distraught at the idea of losing a child. And the ending, just wow. All magic has a price but I wasn't expecting just how much it was going to cost (hence the sobbing comment at the beginning of the post).

WHOA! What a fantastic book and ending to a terrific series!!! Well, as long as you keep in mind the type of series it is! *insert sly smile here* I found the story very well written and completely engrossing. And no matter how hard I tried I STILL could not figure out what was going to happen next!! I think out of all of my “predictions” throughout this entire series, I was only correct on 2 or 3! But to me, that says A LOT! It means that the story is very unique, follows its own path and makes you think outside of the box or all of the “rules” & things you thought you knew about magic and magical beings. The fact that the Sidhe and the Gods/Goddesses could not….well I am not going to say anymore because I think you have to read it for yourself. I don’t like to give spoilers in my reviews, in fact I try REALLY hard to avoid spilling any part of the story aside from what is in the blurbs. I prefer not to know too much about a book before I read it and therefore respect that other readers would feel the same way. I loved the way that everything built up into more than one climatic ending, which in itself is unique! Usually everything leads to the BIG ENDING or the HEA, but if you have ever read any of Ann’s books, you will know that she likes to take her readers on a roller coaster of a ride with multiple arcs & “endings”, and she has yet to disappoint me! This book shifted to be more about what is going on in the world and the magic side of things, as oppose to the psych/psyche side that the first book tended to lean more towards. This does not take anything away from the over-all story in fact it enhances and expands it! I thought it was pure genius in how Ann tells us…well EVERYTHING!!! You get the info you need when you need it, but at the same time you are not inundated with unnecessary info or lost because you don’t have enough & can’t figure out what is going on. I have a feeling that these books are those rare ones that you can read multiple times and STILL discover new things, understand something else, realize a situation all while still enjoying them as a whole! Of course, I can easily say that about any of Ann’s books! Ann Gimpel is a very gifted author that can tell so many different types of stories in so many different genres, in fact in most cases you cannot even classify her books in just one genre! She can & does, successfully blend paranormal, urban fantasy, romance and many other “types” together into one beautiful book and/or series and have you love each & every single one of them!!
This last book in the Soul Storm series is full of strong magic, both good and evil. We have Lara, who is still learning how to use her magic and her husband Trevor and their newborn Elizabeth, all caught in the Demons evil while trying to survive in what they thought was a safe haven. Their magical friends do all they can to help, but as evil confronts them in unknown ways, they are unable to help when it's needed most. Through being captured and escaping, both are hurt both physically ad mentally and as this happens to them separately they are terrified of what will happen to the other. Their love is strong and Trevor proves this by doing what is forbidden to humans, in order to save his beloved Tara and daughter. Because of his actions, there are tragic consequences. Good cannot always conquer evil and this is shown here, and in the end all we can do is hope that the Gods will show us to how to overcome and love again. I highly recommend this book and the entire series, which shows us when we have to be strong for those we love, we will do all we can to prevail.
Yet again, Author Ann Gimpel has left me speechless and surprised with this final installment of the Soul Storm series, Dark Promise. This is the probably the hardest series I've ever had to review. Oh don't get me wrong, it's an exceptional series. There's just some things that happens that makes it hard but I believe it was the right ending. A very different series from this author's usual work, I still loved it. If you've not started this series yet, I highly suggest you do so! It's extremely emotional but it also has Ann's signature action packed, full of surprises, revelations and romance. Yes there are some dark spots in it but those dark spots are also a part of every day life. I urge you not to let that stop you from reading this series! It's really not my typical kind of read either but oh my gods, am I glad I finished it. Ann Gimpel truly is one of a kind author! Thus series is one that I'll never forget. Oh my - the feels in this book. I truly have run the gambit of all the emotions. This is the conclusion of Lara and Trevor's story. Well written and complete in a way that you want all books to be. Mystery, adventure, romance, great dialogue and enough true to life history and mythology to give you the feeling that you experienced everything the characters did in the book. Enjoy! Received this book free for an honest review. Must. Read. Series. OMG! I can't stop crying. Heartbreaking doesn't seem enough. Soul-breaking might be more apt to describe what I'm feeling now. Wow! This journey has put me threw the wringer and then some. Oh my. So much carnage, emotional turmoil, destruction and love. Get this series. Don't wait, don't walk... Run to your nearest bookstore or just a few clicks of your mouse to get this amazing series.
Ann did a wonderful job with the last book in the series. It had a lot of things going on with all the characters. I was laughing one minute and crying the next. It was well written and if you loved the first two books you are going to love this one even more. The ending was sad but a great ending. This series is a must read
This book is stunning. It is the ending of the series and I have to say that it left me speechless. There are some books, not many, that you think of and can't get out of your mind after you have read, this is one of them. This is Lara and Trevor's story and how their love for each other never wavers. I highly recommend this book. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Book three and the final book in the Soul Storm series. Lara and Trevor's story ends with one you are not expecting it was one that made you want to keep reading to know what was going to happen next and also made you stop and think. I enjoyed these books and I usually read Romance so this was one that made me step outside my comfort zone for reading and I ever happy I did!
I loved this series. You get so immersed in it, you think it's real. I laughed and I cried, but most of all I was very contented with the ending book. This should be on your Must Read list.
