Shelby Ellis and Nick Evans have been best friends since they were 17 years old, meeting for the first time when they were paired up alphabetically as lab partners. Five years later, Nick leaves home to pursue his acting dreams, and Shelby stays behind in New York to become a professional writer. They stay in touch through various failed relationships and career developments, seeing each other sporadically. During a fateful visit at Nick’s new house in California, their relationship takes a sudden turn. When Nick reveals his future plans to Shelby, she has to decide if their friendship is strong enough to continue or if it will be forever changed.
