A hidden identity. A violent past. A killer who knows her better than she knows herself.
I live by routines. Locked doors. Controlled schedules. Predictable days.
Five years ago, I survived a violent attack while working as a real estate agent in Augusta. I escaped a man who should have been just another client—and I ran. I changed my name. I moved states. I rebuilt my life in Nashville, one listing at a time.
I don’t talk about the past. I don’t revisit old memories. I tell myself survival was enough.
Then a client is murdered at one of my properties.
Then a colleague vanishes.
Then another woman disappears.
Suddenly, the police are asking questions I don’t want to answer. Questions about my past. Questions about gaps in my story. Questions that suggest I’m not telling the whole truth.
Maybe I’m not.
Because the deeper I look, the more unreliable my memories become. Familiar events feel distorted. Important details don’t align. And someone is watching me—someone who knows intimate truths about my life, my fear, and a night I can barely remember.
The women around me are dying. The killer is closing in. And the truth I buried to survive is no longer willing to stay silent.
I believed I escaped the worst night of my life.
I was wrong.
Unreliable Female Narrator Real Estate Agent Suspense 💀 Killer Among Us Workplace Murder Investigation Gaslighting Psychological Thriller Buried Trauma Mystery Mentor-Protégée Relationship Small Town Dark Secrets
The Showing is a psychological thriller featuring escalating twists, buried trauma, and a deeply unsettling ending that lingers long after the final page.
Sometimes not having a clue on what is happening is the best, and that absolutely worked for this story. My confusion grew and this story just kept getting more addictive as the chapters continued! This story will definitely make you think twice about going to real estate school lol, or at least make you think twice about your Showings and how you conduct them. I definitely loved the setting, as a resident of Nashville hearing all of the references to locations that I am very familiar with was a bonus. This was a great read (my third by this author) and I am looking forward to more of her work. If you love stories, that keep you guessing, with unreliable narrators I would recommend this one.

What I love so much about Shelby Shaw’s stories, is that they literally crawl under your skin!
A gripping psychological suspense that will blow up your mind, that is exactly how I felt after reading this book. Shelby surprises you each time with twists you don’t even see coming! And the end is the best of it all!!!
For lovers of Freida McFadden, you’ll embrace Shelby Shaw as well!!!.

As a real estate agent myself, I came across this and was immediately intrigued by the description and had to read it! After completing it, I have slightly mixed feelings. It is a good read. It does keep you engaged and wanting to know the truth. A combination of a murder mystery and psychological thriller that will have your mind steadily trying to piece all the puzzle pieces together to make sense of what’s happening. You’ll meet an ending that you for sure didn’t expect. And that’s where my mixed feelings come into play.
As someone who is really in the industry and lives this life, the author does an excellent job of painting the picture of what it’s like to be a real estate agent. The industry vernacular that was used, the character interactions and dialogue, etc were all pretty realistic. However, in my personal opinion the ending was not. While I do understand this is a book and was written for entertainment, it just took a turn from being pretty standard (as if you were watching a real estate reality show) to then being a bit too far fetched.
As someone who was just reading as a curious reader, no expectations, no real world experience to draw from or compare to - the dramatic twist would be seen as very clever. As someone also reading as a real estate professional myself, it fell a bit flat. So for that, I gave it about 3.5 stars, but I rounded up to 4.
This was my first read by the author though, and it was written pretty well overall. Very descriptive. Good pacing. So I am inclined to check out more of her work and enjoy being just a reader here for the vibes and not as critical.
Her style seems similar to Freida McFadden. Their stories aren’t ones I would want to read every day, but they’re like little guilty pleasures I like to savor in between other reads. Short, quick reads that should provide a unique twist. It’s like a game to see can you figure it out or not? And usually the answer is no, you can’t lol.
Also, if you’re into psychology, this read will lead you to want to know a bit more about the mind and how it works. She teases some theories I didn’t know were a thing but I’m curious to know more about.
Shaw grabs the reader by the throat, in the prologue and doesn't let go straight through, until the epilogue. When you can finally exhale, once again.
This book is one tension-filled page after another. You are sure you know what is going on, and then, BAM! You are thrown a curve, and have no idea what to expect next.
Without giving too much away, the story follows a real estate agent who has gone through a trauma, and moved to another city to reimagine herself. Then things start happening.
Shaw is right up there with Freida McFadden, Zia Rayyan, Ruth Ware, etc. . She is moving to the top tier, of the psych thriller genre. Each book is better than the last! Cannot wait for her next book. I could not put this one down!.

This book was great. Keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat. Can't tell you to much because I want the readers to get the same wow factor but it's about a real estate agent that sells houses but had a horrifying experience and moved to a new town for a fresh start. When a client is murdered at one of her listing it seems like its starting all over again and the police are involved again.
This book was a good book it is full of suspense and it keeps you drawn in.Now this one was a little harder to get into then her other books but once you get into it it hold on. The ending caught me off guard as I didn't see it coming.

This was a new author for me, and she kept me reading 2 x notes until I finished. This book is a winner. It wraps around you and doesn't let go! Great read!
I really do want to read more books with final girls because that is one of the things that brought me to thrillers in first place - I am a big fan of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Anyway, it's no surprise that I did basically inhale this book. The twists just kept coming, and I could not put it down again, somply needing to know how it would end. Very highly recommended!
