Kait works for the FBI. Her brother-in-law is a computer genius using his ability to steal from unsuspecting victims. While escaping the law he accidentally kills his wife instead of his intended victim, Kait.
Kait has made it her priority for 3 years searching for any sign of her brother-in-law. Fenton has finally turned up but he has no intention of being caught, his sole purpose is to get his daughter from Kait and to exact his revenge on Kait for ruining his life.
With a series of grizzly murders Fenton plays a game of cat and mouse with Kait and local law enforcement detective Sam Murdock. How many people will he murder before he gets to Kait? Sam is determined to not let that happen.
MY THOUGHTS:
Seriously! Oh my goodness! Full of suspense from the very beginning! I loved every minute of it! Every character was fully developed, their feelings, their emotions, and their realness totally believable. Reading Fenton's evil plans and thoughts and deeds was totally creepy. Also the dangers of scammers on computers makes me kind of never want to get on a computer again! Well done Susan Sleeman!! Looking forward to the next book in the Agents Under Fire Series.

There are some books that just capture you and transport you right along the storyline as if you are watching it unfold in real time. This was one of those books for me. Of course having it set in the Portland area where I reside didn't hurt but you don't have to live in this area to be caught up in the magic that is Susan's writing! I was blown away by this book! I couldn't read it fast enough. It was obvious from every chapter that the author did extensive background research. The realism was amazing which led to the credibility of the storyline. I will never look at my computer or cell phone the same again! Although the main storyline focuses on a heinous crime spree of a serial killer, Fenton Rhodes, the author put so much "humanity" in it with her characters, Kait, the FBI agent, and Sam, the Portland police detective, and of course, Lily, the darling 3 year old niece of Kait. There are many other characters that make this book real and human too. I loved the action-packed scenes and the quiet, reflective scenes - a great balance. How awful Kait feels to know that Fenton, her brother-in-law, is the killer and is doing all this killing as part of a revenge plot to punish her for the loss of his wife, Kait's sister. Kait feels responsible for every death that happens, which drives her harder to catch him but she works for the FBI and they have rules so she has to play by them! Sam, is the detective that gets assigned to the first case so it's natural a task force is soon made between the FBI and the Portland Police Dept. The book continues to follow a real investigation and I really loved that! When I reached "THE END", I literally had to take a breath and just take it all in for awhile! I will be thinking about this book for months to come! It was that good. I would highly recommend it!

Susan Sleeman's newest romantic suspense quickly wrapped its tangled threads around me and thoroughly encased me, not allowing me to escape from the high tension until I reached "THE END." Intense drama is created by the fact that FBI agent Kaitlyn Knight is frantically searching for her former brother-in-law, Fenton Rhodes. Rhodes is a computer hacker of the highest ability who initially killed his partner to take over his business. As Kait is about to turn Rhodes in to her superiors, Rhodes attacks her, but her twin,Abby, Rhodes's beloved wife, is the one who is killed.Thus begins a horrible cat and mouse game.
Detective Sam Murdock, of the Portland Police Bureau, is assigned to the case, but Kate, with personal ties, keeps trying to force her way into the scene. Feeling sorry for her at first, he allows her liberties. However,as they work together and the two agencies also combine forces, Rhodes turns up the heat with grisly actions that cause Kate and Sam to question themselves and each other. Will these two choose self-loathing and shutting down in each other's presence, or will they be able to trust and open up so a real relationship can flourish,providing Fenton is found before the reader's heart gives out!
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I am, however, still shaking in fear. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book caught my interest from the first page and lasted all the way through the book. There is so much action it was a hard book to put down. I contained all the elements of a fantastic, suspenseful murder mystery.

Every book I read by Susan Sleeman just gets better and Web of Deceit quickly drew me in, becoming one of my favorites. With plenty of suspense and action mixed with a little romance and relatable characters, this story was everything I look for in a good book. Also, I appreciated that the author wrote about some gruesome scenes without getting too graphic and kept it clean and free of profanity and sex.
Plot: FBI Agent Kaitlyn Knight learns her brother-in-law, Fenton Rhodes, is the notorious cyber criminal Vyper. When she tries to arrest him, he ends up killing his wife Abby, Kait's identical twin. Fenton manages to escape and Kait is left to take care of their infant daughter. Kait vows to track him down, but for the next three years, Fenton lays low. Then Kait's FBI team gets a lead, which takes them to a body. Is it connected to Fenton? She teams up with Detective Sam Murdock to investigate. Sam first met Kait three years ago at the scene of her sister's murder and is drawn to her. As they get closer to tracking down Fenton, the danger to Kait escalates and Sam must keep her and her niece safe, whether Kait thinks she needs his help or not.
Characters: Kait is very focused on her job, and feels inadequate as a mother to her niece. She's the tough agent, but yet is very vulnerable as she's so emotionally attached to this case. Sam was my favorite character. He's out of his element investigating this case as he's not very technologically savvy, but I liked that he wasn't afraid to admit it and ask questions when he didn't understand. Both Kait and Sam have faced big losses in their lives, leaving them both a little wary of a relationship, yet they find themselves fighting the attraction to each other. We're also introduced to Nina and Becca, Kait's fellow FBI agents in this story, setting the scene for the following books.
This story is told through multiple points of view, giving the reader a more complete picture of what's happening. While Fenton is the bad guy and completely evil, I'm glad we got to see things from his perspective too. The reader knows before Kait even realizes it, just how close he is to her and how much danger she's in.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and clean reads. Even knowing who the bad guy was at the beginning of the story, it still kept me on the edge of my seat, guessing what would happen next and how they would manage to track him down. Exciting start to the series and I can't wait to see more of these characters in the next book.

Over the past year and a half, I’ve been trying to study up a little on what makes a good writer. Things like showing instead of telling, tight dialogue, engaging chapters. Since I’ve been researching those things a little more, I’ve become more aware of when those things are done well or poorly in whatever I’m reading at the time. Author Susan Sleeman could teach a course on how to immerse readers in writing. As I was reading Web of Deceit (the first book in her Agents Under Fire series), I found myself highlighting passage after passage that stood out to me.
FBI agent Kaitlyn (Kait) Knight has spent the last three years searching for the man who murdered her twin sister in front of her, her brother-in-law. Juggling her career with caring for her three-year-old niece isn’t always easy, and when a computer code that resembles Fenton’s work surfaces, her team scrambles to check out the lead. They arrive on the scene only to find the Portland police already there to investige a murder. Detective Sam Murdock remembered trying to offer Kait comfort the day her sister died and is drawn to her when he sees her again. Both Kait and Sam are haunted by their past and as they work together to track down a killer before he claims another victim, they struggle with their own demons as well as their attraction to each other.
From the first time Kait and Sam meet in the book, their attraction is palpable. Kait’s guilt over her sister’s death as well as her determination to catch her sister’s murder resonates with readers. Sam’s concern for others, especially Kait and her niece, is evident through his words as well as his actions. Sleeman handles the details of the murders well, giving just enough detail to give the reader an idea of how gruesome the killer’s choice of death is but leaving much to the imagination. And her descriptions of police procedures make you feel like you’re right there with Sam, Kait, and the other law enforcement officials involved in crime scenes.
I didn’t want to put the book down as I was drawn into Kait’s world as a cyber criminalist for the FBI. And believe me, I will think twice before clicking on any link in my email from now on.

The story picks up at that point, showing Kait struggles with being a single mother raising her sister's only child and balancing her career as a Special Agent in Portland. Add in a healthy dose of maternal disapproval, and you see Kait's living on the edge.
Kait and Fenton play a tight, no holds barred cat and mouse game as he attempts to gain his child back and revenge on Kait for Abby's death. The local police, in the form of Detective Sam Murdock, who was at the original crime scene three years ago, begin investigating a series of seemingly unconnected murders. Kaitlyn never breaks her promises and when she promised to bring Fenton to justice for the murder of her sister, that is what she sets out to do. For three long years she has hunted, now Fenton has returned with his own sick agenda. For Kaitlyn, everything she loves and knows is in danger because of Fenton’s revenge. Fenton blames Kaitlyn for his wife’s death and his daughter being taken from him. Revenge is his motive. Who will come out on top and at what expense?
A well-constructed suspense story filled with mystery and intrigue. Well written, Susan Sleeman, author, creates a world that is focused on family, justice, and relationships filled with twists and turns. Her characters were well-developed and realistic. The conversations were well scripted also. The relationships and situations were well thought out and executed.
I enjoyed listening to Web of Deceit for several reasons – it was well done, well written, creative and clean. It’s bad enough having to read the gratuitous sex scenes let alone listen to them! So this was a major plus for me.
Narrator, Jack Wayne performed the audiobook expertly bringing the story to life. Each character had a distinctive voice and attitude. I thought Wayne did an excellent job of bringing the suspense to a tangible level. I enjoyed his voice and performance.
Mystery and thriller listeners will enjoy this book immensely.

My thoughts: WEB OF DECEIT is the first book in Ms. Sleeman's Agents Under
Fire series. I read Web of Secrets first and I'm happy to announce these books
stand alone.
These are not technically Christian books. There are no mentions of God, church
or prayer (and honestly I have no idea how these agents and officers survived
their horrific jobs without God.) However, they are clean, and while there might be
mentions of passion, or desire, or longing, there is no acting on it.
I liked Kait and I loved Sam. Lily was a nice addition. And Lily's dad is the stuff
nightmares are made of. Seriously. The man had to have been out of his mind
to do what he did.
I learned a lot about computer hacking that I didn't know, and I wanted Kait
and Sam to find the man before someone else died.
For more conservative readers, there is a couple instances of "soft swear words",
and several instances of drinking alcoholic beverages.
If you like romantic suspense, you will love Susan Sleeman--and this series is
very suspenseful. Don't miss WEB OF DECEIT or any of the other books in this
series.

I can't tell you how many times I rolled my eyes while reading this book. It was kind of awful. I feel bad saying that because I think all authors work hard on their books and this was published after all, but it was not my cup of tea. The mystery was okay. But the characters' constant debates in their heads over the hotness of the other was grating. It makes the drama in the Selection seem normal. And come to think about it, the author never wrapped up Nina and Quinn. Is that what the second book is about? If so, I will gladly skip it. I'm sure Nina and Quinn will angst it up amid drama and impending doom and then they will end up together. (Audience cheers. I gag...a little.)

This was SOOOOOOO Good! I normally prefer "whodunit" and trying to figure out with the main character, but this was such a well done suspense novel!

She knows that it is her duty to arrest him, even though he is the husband of her sister Abby and the father of her niece Lily. However, she did not expect him to murder her sister and go on the run, leaving Kait to care for Lily. Vyper’s trail seems to have run cold, causing Kait to have a false sense of security. She doesn’t realize that he is far closer than she could ever imagine, especially since he is determined to gain custody of Lily.
A growing body count brings the focus back to Vyper, with homicide detective Sam Murdoch on the case. It quickly becomes apparent that the murderers are a message to Kait, and that she is his ultimate target. Will Sam be able to keep Kait and Lily safe? How many other people will die along the way?
This is the first book in Sleeman’s new “Agents Under Fire” series, and the realistically creepy details pertaining to the murders and cybercrimes are almost certain to stick with you long after the last page (as well as keep you up at night)! I had the privilege of reading Web of Deceit. This is the first book in a series about FBI women. Oh my goodness - action and suspense from the beginning. I absolutely love how Ms. Sleeman develops characters - both male and female. She makes them stand apart, not just from each other, but as individuals. She builds communities that I love being part of. I love how she allowed us to get to know some of the secondary characters of whom I can’t wait to read about and get to know better in the future.
I love how she can get into the mind of the suspect as well as the victim. She has the ability to help us see the different ways people think (right or wrong) and how people’s actions affect those around them, good or bad. I love how she took a complicated subject matter (internet safety) that affects all of us daily and broke it down to easily understood pieces, so I got an education while being entertained. I definitely look at the internet and what I do on the computer much differently now than I did before I started reading.
This book was great - I couldn’t put it down, didn’t want to put it down, and am still thinking about it two weeks after reading it. It had depth, suspense, mystery, some humor, and lots of action, not to mention romance. I love living vicariously through Ms. Sleeman’s books. I’m a huge fan and can’t wait to read more.

Web of Deceit is the second book I've read by Susan Sleeman and another great suspense story! I really liked the cyber-crime aspect and how even though the cops knew who was behind the killing spree, it wasn't easy trying to catch Vyper. Speaking of the killer...he was creepy! The stuff he did was just terrible and made my skin crawl.
I liked how there was a little bit of a side romance story (or at least a hint of one to come??), in addition to the main one. I hope Susan writes another books with these characters, so I can see what happens next in their lives.
All in all, a very enjoyable romantic suspense novel. I really liked it and recommend it if you are a fan of the genre!

So I just finished Web of Deceit by Susan Sleeman. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It kept my interest and was very easy to loose myself in. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in this series. As usual I offer no spoilers only this..... if you love a clean, murder mystery you have to read this book!

Susan Sleeman knows how to write romantic suspense. This book is unputdownable and will keep you on the edge of your seat! I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Susan Salesman has written an enjoyable romantic thriller (with definite emphasis on the romance) if the listener is able to make an enormous leap into the suspence of disbelief, firstly that a man, badly shot in the leg and being hunted by the FBI for double murder and grand internet fraud, should be able to disappear completely for three years only then to emerge as a fully fledged, gruesome serial killer able to stalk, and even frequently enter the house of, the one agent most obsessively wanting to find him, without a single sighting or suspicion of his presence; and secondly that this same agent, sister of the dead woman and bringing up her child, no matter how headstrong, would be allowed to work on a the case despite her personally intimate involvement and obvious emotional incompetence where this particular target is concerned.
Seen from different points of view, including that of the brother in law killer, Fenton, as he watches and plans his revenge, the main characterisations are well drawn, displaying the obsession of both to punish the other. Good, too, is that of the detective and love interest, Sam, as he tries to inject a little reason into the situation despite his own personal ghosts. The voicing of Sam, by narrator, Jack Wayne, is superb, with a slow, rich, deep Texan accent perfectly reflecting the identity of this detective.The understandably neurotic agent, Kaitlin, is also well portrayed by him and the creepy, crazy Fenton is presented as just that, with an unpleasant sneer in the narrator's voice and the twee voice of the three years old child is also perfectly captured.
The whole story is read with considerable emotion, reflecting that inherent in the text. Both story and reading are fast paced and it is easy to be swept along by the combination. This is the first Susan Salesman book that I have read, my copy having been freely gifted to me, without any expectations, by the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you. I did enjoy it despite my serious reservations about the plausibility - this is fiction, after all. Would I recommend it? Perhaps not to anyone who wanted their thriller to be more hard core, but for a romance against a serial killer chase background, most certainly. It is an easy, enjoyable listen made all the more intense by the narration.

Kait works for the FBI. Her brother in law- Fenton Rhodes- is a computer genius- his notorious cuper criminal Vyper- using his ability to steal from unsuspecting victims while escaping the law he accidentally kills his wife - Kait's identical twin sister Abby- when he intended to kill Kait she had tried to arrest him. Kairt seen Fenton kill Abby right in front of her. . Kait has made her priority for three years searching for Finton - he finally turns up but has no intention of being caught. Fenton wants to get his daughter from Kait and get his revenge for ruining his life. Kait had met Sam who was a detective three years ago at the scene if her sister’s murder he had tried to comfort Kait. Now Kait has to juggle a job and raising a three year old Lily. There has been a series of grisly murders.Sam is assigned to the case. Kait teams up with Detective Sam Murdock. Then a computer code that’s likely Fenton’s work comes surfaces and her team hurries to check out the lead. But Portland Police are already there with a murder victim. Fenton plays cat and mouse with Kait and Sam. Sam is determined to keep Kait safe. Kait and Sam have suffered losses and are leery of relationships.. Sam and Kait are attracted to each other but fight it. Kait never breaks promises and she promised to get Fenton and justice for her twin sister Abby.

This is book one of the Agents Under Fire Series. I really enjoy Susan's books and this is an excellent example of her work. I'm looking forward to book two. This story is well written, action packed, and full of intrigue. The subject is on the dark side but Susan handles it in unique way. You are going to love the book.

Three years ago her twin sister died at the hands of her unstable husband leaving their baby daughter for Kait to raise. Fenton just disappeared. A deadly game of cat and mouse. This was really good. A thourghly entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story. It pulled me in from the start and held my attention until the end. This is one of those books I couldn't wait to get back to. I listened every chance I could.
It's well written with a great cast of well rounded characters. It's also has plenty of action, suspense, mystery and intrigue that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is also a clean developing romantic connection between the 2 main characters. Some people don't like any kind of romance in their suspense thrillers, I enjoyed this element of the story. It felt natural considering they are working so closely together.
I don't consider it a fast paced story but one that is constantly moving forward, building the suspense. Even though it's not fast paced its not slow either. It moves forward at a steady pace, piece by piece building. It's definitley a series I would follow.
Jack Wayne did a great job with the narration. Nice voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Really good character voices. All of them. Male, female or child they were all easily distinguishable. His voice for Vyper as perfect. He brought the characters, their emotions and the story to life. Very enjoyable

I’m so glad this book was available for a short period of time for free. It doesn’t happen that often anymore I’m able to finish a 200+ pages book within one day which shows how much I loved it!
I have to admit I was a little bit cautious after I noticed how many books this author published with Love Inspired Suspense and those I read I wasn’t much excited about.
Three years after Kait found out her brother-in-law is a cyber-criminal she and her colleagues at the FBI were looking for and he killed her twin-sister in front of her she’s frustrated there’s not a whisper of a lead to find him.
I loved how realistic and candid this novel is. I’m sure there are readers who don’t appreciate the graphic violence and sexual tension between the main characters – I liked the story even more because that’s how life often is.
The novel is fast paced, has interesting characters with great character development and shows enough faults in their relationships to stay realistic

Web of Deceit has been on my TBR list for an embarrassingly long time. Why haven't I read it before now? I have no idea. I'm shaking my head for letting it sit there for so long, but I'm so glad I finally picked it up.
From the first line, I knew I was in for a wild, suspense-filled ride. There's so much action and intrigue. It hardly let up until the heart-pounding conclusion.
Fenton was a truly chilling villain. His madness, his rage, the lengths he went to seek his revenge were absolutely sickening. Kait was steadfast in her pursuit of capturing her brother-in-law. He had to be brought to justice for all the evil he'd done. She made a promise to catch him that she intended to keep it, no matter the cost. Sam was a great guy. He was the perfect counterpart to Kait and they had an instant chemistry that was smoking hot.
This was a true romantic suspense. It had the perfect combination of both genres. I'll definitely be looking forward to reading more books from this author.

Romantic Suspense with plot twists galore and a very twisted villain balanced by a host of great good guys; I had a few "spoiler" insights because I read book 2 first but they didn't detract from the main story; intriguing suspense keeps interrupting the sweet romance that's building between lead characters Kait and Sam; this book is loaded with witty dialogue and it's not restricted to the interactions between the 2 main characters --I really like that in a book; this book almost crosses over into the Crime Thriller genre because of how much narrative there is giving the reader a view into the villain's deviant mind and the horror of the scenes of his monstrous crimes --not something I enjoy at all and I nearly down-rated this book because of that (but it is very well written and it highlights the true nature of the service to the community that our Law Enforcement Officers provide dealing with the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright evil)

Kait is a FBI agent and this could be deadly for her. When she finds out her brother-in-law is the Vyper, a web cyber criminal that can hack into anything, she tries to get him to turn himself in. But in the argument, he aims for Kait, but her sister steps in and he shoots his wife and now he blames Kait. In the argument, Kait fires her gun at him, not knowing whether she hits him or not, but he disappears and she is always on the hunt for him. Now, her neice is left without her parents, and Kait's sister has left Kait in charge of her neice. Kait's Mother always holds her responsible for the sisters death.
When Kait finds out about a case that reminds her of the Vyper, she begs to be put on it, but they won't let her. She decides to go out on her own. In doing so, she meets homicide detective Sam Murdock.
This is a great book that will keep you reading. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more by this author.

To be honest I’m kinda disappointed. I love a lot of other books Susan has written but this one fell sort. I didn’t feel any connection to the characters and got annoyed a lot with choices they made. One thing that confused me was in the beginning Lily was afraid of her Dad but later she seemed to love him and be happy with him. Kait didn’t act professionally at critical times of the book and didn’t think logically when she had time to think things through. Another that really grinded my gears was that when Lily brought up to Sam a man in her room Kait brushed it off, when no logical adult would ignore that when a murderer is after them. Even if Lily was being paranoid no adult would ignore her claims and brush it off like Kait did and Sam didn’t push on the subject either. Over all I was sad that I didn’t like it because I have love many of her other books but I don’t fault her for this.

The suspense comes in the journey.
Kaitlyn Knight is trying desperately to find and bring to justice her brother-in-law, Fenton Rhodes. Not only did he murder her sister, but he keeps killing other innocents in his desperate attempts to make her pay for his wife's death.
Many twists & turns along the way keep you guessing until the last chapter.

A twin, of Kait’s whose husband is a murderer, plus a cyber criminal. Killing his wife during an outrage, leaving Kait to raise her neice, and juggle her FBI job. For 3 years it has been revenge to get him and to pay for crimes. He keeps escaping,his murdered victims are that of a monster, unable to catch him. He wants his daughter, he wants Kait dead. The team is working, but will they succeed, she is going without sleep, nerves on end. As will the reader with this plot that has a depth, that will grab your attention, and will not be disappointed by reading.

Two agents fall in love well working on a case.
Enjoyed being back with this author again. Sam and Kaitlyn story was exciting from start to finish. Kaitlyn former brother in law was a real sick guy. Sam and Kaitlyn worked well together. Kaitlyn needed Sams protectivness. Sam needed Kaitlyn and Lily to heal his heart and to be the husband and father they needed. I was so happy when they finally caught Lily dad. Looking forward to Nina and Quinn story sometime soon. I read Becca and Conner story first. So good that Kaitlyn finally had closer to her past.

My review is based on the Audiobook. I could not stop listening to Web of Deceit. The characters are relatable and I quickly became invested wanting to know more. The story is fast passed and keeps you engaged from start to finish. Jack Wayne is an awesome narrator! His distinct character voices allow the listener to easily follow the story. I am looking forward to reading more in the Agents Under Fire Series.
