Book six
I read this originally as it was posted on royal road. Now I don't know if the author is taking a break Or has stopped posting to royal road but I haven't seen anything new in quite some time.
Still, Without a doubt this is my personal favorite Dragon book and anybody that's read my reviews knows that I can't stand dragon books. Dragons are supposed to be haughty and arrogant and full of themselves and mean and cruel. They aren't in this book and I still like it The cards are unique And that adds another layer of pleasure to it It actually makes it easier to put up with the dragons honestly.
But I wanted to give a review since the author did let me read this well they wrote it and I appreciate that fact. I hope book 7 comes to royal road but honestly I don't know if it will.

Excellent!
After the past couple books feeling like the overall story was stagnating, this one had welcome progress!
Arthur had more agency in this one, and he truly takes on the role of a legendary.
It felt like his retinue and the other side characters had more texture as well. They didn’t exactly seem like a faceless crowd before, but with how much Arthur has travelled we hadn’t seen so many of them at once. It seemed like they coalesced into more of a team when they came together—each with their role to play. I’ve read books before where a group of characters come together and some get lost in the crowd. That didn’t happen here.
It is a bit short. Books 1, 5, and 6 are all of a similar length, but 2-4 were longer. I have it in my head that they are all the length of 2, so as I was listening today I got to the end before I realized it. The story is really ramping up, but now I wait.

Brixaby is maturing into his role as the leader of the dragons in his hive. And Arthur's quest to complete his set of mastery cards is proceeding apace.
This is very much a middle-of-the-series book. It relies on the story already told and, while it stops at a reasonable place, does not finish the story. The plot works for the story, and flows well.
The character work on Brixaby is excellent. With his recent consumption of powerful shards and cards, he is gaining maturity (both mentally and physically), and making fewer ill-advised choices. Arthur is growing in magical power, but his personality isn't changing as quickly.
There is some interesting growth in the world, though this story has constricted back to (effectively) just the Kingdom.
Overall, while this wasn't exceptional, it was a very satisfactory LitRPG book, and I would recommend it to readers of the genre.

This is a pretty good entry in an overall pretty good series. I thought the move in an earlier book to “totally not Texas” was an odd setting change that didn’t work with me, but we are back on more familiar ground here and finally Arthur has control of a hive, Blood Moon.
I like getting to hear a bit more about how the hives work and come together when required. This was something I liked last book with the arrival at Blood
Moon and that continues to some degree here. We also get to learn more about Brixaby and see him develop.
Funny enough I’ve never really cared much for Arthur as the MC and think Brixaby is honestly the better and more interesting character overall, but they do work well together. I do think Arthur’s personality is finally coming together though, as some of the earlier books portrayed him as being oddly morally ambiguous with things like whether or not to steal.
There are some fun battles in this book as well.
There are two big issues I have with this book (both of which are ones that exist in previous books but are getting worse):
1. Too many cooks in the kitchen, so to speak: In my mind there are three different things that make up the “System” in this series: skills, cards, and dragons. I think you can have up to two of these things and still have an effective system for the series, but all three is too many. It cheapens each of them. This is especially noticable with the skills, as they almost never seem to actually matter - a problem with a series called “All The Skills”.
2.The card system: It seems like there’s a card for everything, but some cards are wildly unbalanced. In addition we learn that cards can be permanently removed from the world, but conveniently all the cards Arthur and Brixaby need still exist. What I really have an issue with is how Arthur continues to develop his ability to modify cards, and the fact that this ability comes from one of his cards as well. We see that there are limits to this ability, but sometimes the limits seem more like ones that are convenient for the plot and Arthur can overcome them when required. I think it cheapens the entire card system and really skews the balance. Arthur also gets a card in this book that creates “autonomous multiplying beings of fire” - I won’t even get into how crazy it sounds, and several people in the book even call this out.
Overall it’s a fun book, and on more familiar ground now. It’s nice to see some plot threads move forward such as with his original family and father. I recommend but just be prepared for some issues with how things like the card system continue to be developed.

A lot of things are going on here in Book 6.
After Arthur rather abruptly found himself the new leader of Blood Moon Hive at the end of Book 5, he has to learn how to lead a hive, and quickly, because life as a hive leader involves constant exposure to both internal and inter-hive politics, and they can be deadly. This is a terrible position for Arthur to be in, having never had an iota of actual leadership training and having to rely entirely on his card-enhanced Leadership skill. But it just goes to show that in both a fictional fantasy realm and in the real world, leadership has virtually nothing to do with how good or bad a given person would be at it, and everything to do with power.
And being a hive leader is harder and more hectic than it's ever been, thanks to the accelerating pace of the Scourge eruptions. That's presumably due to the things we learned in Book 5 about the world being out of balance, giving the Scourge gods the upper hand. And why the King's dragon Lungbai wants Arthur and Brixaby to become a Mythic pair.
The long-term solution to that, of course, is for Arthur and Brixaby to get their next Legendary cards. Of course, Arthur knows where his next card is, and that leads back to his cousin Penn and the Rowantree estate. How do you take a Master of Combat card off its holder, when the holder is a magically gifted fighter? And also your cousin, whom you don't really want to kill? Well, you'll see how our Dear Author solved that one.
But it sure is hard for a Hive leader to run off chasing his next card when the eruption alarms are always going off and people are trying to undermine his leadership instead of helping fight the Scourge. You know things are bad when Arthur and Brixaby have to retreat into a pocket dimension to make time to level their skills the way they used to. The good news is, Arthur somehow finds time amid all this chaos to finally make a (small) move on Cressida. The author really didn't want to write a romantic subplot into this series, and it shows. I'm okay with that, because I don't really want to read romantic subplots.
I ranked Book 5 the first true 4-star book in the series, but now I think we're back to 3.5, rounded up.

Ok. That was a little weird. Not the book. The goodreads page told me that the book wasn't out yet and I had to go through this weird thing about rating a book that isn't out yet? It came out last week, not sure what is up with that?
Anyway, this book is more a return to form IMO. I really liked the first book. A series called all the skills is right up my alley and the first book had all of that. Then the rest of the series had more to do with dragons and other cards than any of Arthurs skills. They were mentioned every now and then but they were not a big part of the story. This one had some scenes that corrected that problem. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the next one.

AwesomeSauce! The! Best! Deck-building! LitRPG! Adventure! Evarrr!
Awww that was Maaarvelouss! I love deck-building litRPG's and this is... well. The! Best! Series! Evarrr! I know because I've read 'em all! I love Brixaby the purple dragon, oh and Arthur is really cool too! In this book Arthur is still dealing with being the newly ascended leader of The Blood Moon Hive! And what does he know about leadership? Nothing. All Arthur and Brixaby want to do is get to crafting and improve their own abilities. Not to deal with the minutiae of Hive business... but he also wants to improve the Living conditions for everyone in the Hive. As Chester and Blood Drop his dragon, the previous leaders had treated the Hive like their own personal playground, destroying the morale. Arthur and Brixaby were facing a huge job to help everyone! Reaching out to his Retinue and beyond searching for more allies. Starting with inviting all the riderless dragons to the Hive by offering good food and hopefully even finding riders if they wanted! And come they did. Also 'cause Arthur can now be a better Cardsmith he'll be able to make cards which will help both humans and dragons in his clan. And. No buddy! But. No buddy will ever be abused by a power hungry tyrant again! And of course there's the scourge, the destroyer of all things... and yes it's rising more often! It has'ta be stopped dead.
So yeah grab the book or better yet the audiobook because Luke Daniels is AwesomeSauce!

What I liked about the book:
- Arthur and Cresseda finally become more serious and kind of define their relationship.
- Arthur actually does work as a Hive leader, even if it is small things, but it still feels good, since we did not see it in Wolfmoon.
- The characters are again the strongest part of the story and are as well written as ever.
Where I feel like the book has weaknesses:
- The story progression or payoffs becomes stale, because we know what will happen at the end of one book, Brix or Arthur will get one of their cards for the set. This often is kind of happening on the side and it does not feel...logical all the time.
- The Powers become alot, Brix eats a new legendary but it get's nearly no use and only helps him grow. The cards do not feel...special anymore or like it is important what cards they use.
- The Mind Singer is again the protagonist...I would like for it to be over. I feel like we have seen enough of it.
Overall, quick, easy read with well written characters, that keep me interessted, even when the cards and story progression does it less so.

Absolutely love this series!
It is easily my favourite fantasy series of all time.
Yes, I've read more unique, more technical, more critically acclaimed books. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Mother of Learning etc.
However, All The Skills is one I come back to over and over again. The ideas are creative, and the magic system is well defined, the cards are brilliant. My wife, friends and I will talk about it, how it Arthur could have used his cards better, how we would try things, what other cards could be in sets, how ascension might work, all the mysteries.
There are no other novels that have captivated us for so long. Every time a new book comes out we need to meet up at least once (sometimes more) to discuss it. Then re-read.
If you haven't read this series, congratulations, you have a great treat to look forward to!

Another strong entry in a series that is currently riding the edge of its own central tension.
The escalating power curve that makes progression fantasy compelling in its early stages becomes its own greatest threat as a series matures - once the main characters approach genuinely overwhelming capability the cleverness that made them interesting has fewer constraints to work against. Rae clearly understands this problem and is navigating it carefully. The discovery of scourge eggs planted beneath every city as a civilizational trap is a smart reframe - it makes Arthur's extraordinary power feel necessary rather than indulgent and avoids letting it become wish fulfillment without consequence.
Book 6 feels like the beginning of an endgame and the stakes are appropriately elevated. Still riding the edge but doing so with intention. Curious to see how Rae handles the landing.

I genuinely don't get these reviews. Normally when I have a negative opinion on a book there are at least some reviews that agree.
I picked this book based on the reviews mentioning a "return to form" coming back from how boring the past few books had been and the author's inability to let Arthur do anything interesting.
I was lied to.
This series has done nothing but stagnate based off of the authors presumed need to keep Arthur as some utility magician while doing nothing interesting with that skill set anyway.
Again you will see Arthur become allergic to combat abilities, get his butt kicked by much weaker foes only to stumble into a win like a clown.
The premise was so interesting, but we lost the plot a long time ago and now we're just splashing in still water getting plot cholera.

Arthur and Brix continue to take control of Blood Moon Hive, though it is slow to change as no one believes the Blood Price is truly gone.
More Eruption Hearts are destroyed and more Legendaries obtained.
Arthur finally confronts his cousin, but of course his card is gone. Master of Combat will likely be obtained from the Mond Singer in the final volume. Instead he gets Master of Spells from his Uncle who had gone a bit mad and slightly mind controlled. He had been obscuring all the scourgling activity currently sneaking into the entire kingdom.
I suspect that the next volume will get Brix the next card in his set.
Potentially A and B will get their final cards at the same time to become Mystical together.
Next up: a meeting with the king!

And the story continues as they gain more skills, dragon's grow and Arthur and Brixaby lead Blood Moon Hive and try to fix it from all the harm from Chester's evil power.
There is a lot going on, a lot of adventure, a lot of growing, the love story has started between Cressida and Arthur and Brixaby and Joy.
Lots of Scourge attacks, lots of cards and card shards .... which are needed to fix the finances of Blood Moon Hive.
Arthurs main goal is to become a Mystic and needs to find the matching cards to his current All the Skills deck. As we get closer and closer there is more destruction from the Scourge and the Mind Singer. It's at a climax as we leave off in a pretty significant part when the world is destroyed by the scourge.
Can't wait for the next book.

A long wait between books (5 & 6) but well worth the wait. Picked it up and didn't put it down, read in a day. Brixaby continues to have a real snark that just makes the reader laugh at his unintended innocence. I love that Arthur isn't a muscle man. Almost every other lit-rpg you pick up has the main character locked into a continually muscle-bound stereotype. So its nice to see a utility player that uses his brain and his magic as his major strong points.

5 stars! Fantastic book and I love the characters. I love where the story is going!
Great pacing, great continuing world building. I like the powers and new cards that were introduced. I like the dragons and seeing the healer join the mc group again. The mc finally made a move on the girl he likes who likes him back. Cool to see the strength of the mc and just how close he is to being mythic. He needs one more card. He got the card from his uncle and will allow his cousin to take back the land that’s his family. I can’t wait for the next one. I want it now!

The mc finally made a move on the girl he likes who likes him back. Cool to see the strength of the mc and just how close he is to being mythic. He needs one more card. He got the card from his uncle and will allow his cousin to take back the land that’s his family. I can’t wait for the next one. I want it now!

Great character moments in a great story
This book does a great job of weaving intense character moments into a plot that is aimed at global problems. The character dynamics of the major characters are constantly evolving and yet easy to follow. The political drama is driven by personal grudges and yet impacts the world dramatically. The action is also creative and varied.
Overall, I highly recommend this book.

Cleanup of a massive outbreak of scourge, consolidating his new clan, becoming beast with all his legendary cards, and generally just getting better with ALL the skills, this continuation is, quite frankly, more of the same. Big plot progression, let alone minor plot progression, either passes by without much hassle, or is so minor as to be negligible.
Good thing all other things are going to hell, or there'd be no story.
All told, still a fun read.

Another great entry, looking forward to book 7!
Wish we saw more of the retinue interacting together as that dynamic is really cool. It is funny how OP the MC is but the stakes are so high you don't mind, well I like OP MC's. I was surprised the author hadn't tried to nerf that, and she introduced something that slowed him down but didn't stop him so that was interesting. Hope we get more lore and party interactions in the next book!

did this one audiobook. Still the same reader and still just as good as ever.
Book six in the series and still as good as the first five, in my opinion.
the story is still advancing and still making sense. the main characters are still growing and staying in character to what they have always been.
lots of action and still a fun read.

Well, that was unexpected...
I thought book 6 was going to be the last book and if didnt seem like it was building towards that,
The author continues focusing the story on the MC and his dragon companion. I really wish we got to see things from the rest of the team.
Sone threads are continued. Some surprises occur. Dastardly actions take place. Some friends encounter strong attacks.
Looking forward to more books!

Unique series that keeps on giving
I have enjoyed this series since the first book. The lore Honour Rae has built, the world building, and the characters make it so lovable and fascinating. To top that off, the plot has been sooo satisfying with enough twists to keep me hooked. I can’t wait for the next. Thank you for the series, it one of my favorites.

LOVE this series!
You know it’s a good book when you devour all 450-ish pages and it feels like you just started and need more!
An idea would be to have a glossary of all the important characters with a little blurb to remind us about them for recap purposes since there’s now a lot of them!

The most exciting magic system
The card system gives all the excitement of opening card packs for a tcg and merges it with the rush of fantasy magic. I love seeing every card they get. Even the basic common cards are unique and thought-provoking. Already itching for the next book.

I really enjoy this series, but I really I wish the books were longer! The pacing moves so fast that you barely get two seconds in a scene before jumping to the next. It doesn't really add urgency, it just feels like we're skipping past the fun slice-of-life details that would make the story so much richer.

Problems solved by brute force, one after another.
Did you not know water is wet? That's the level of "common sense" this book operates on.
The approach to leadership? Underwhelming at best—nonexistent at worst.
And consequences? Either absent entirely, or so watered down they might as well not exist for bad decisions.

Arthur finally acting like a real leader some of his best moments in the series. The only complaint I have is him being overprotective of his friends especially his gf, were mf dragons riders fighting demons be fr 😒. There’s rumors that next book is the last which is kinda insane with many mysteries still left undiscovered this series really has hit it stride to end it now.

- author does something really interesting for a late lit-rpg, and focuses on the leveling, the political machinations are there, but they're not the focus

- lots of random characters now, came to this after waiting a year and it doesn't age as good.
