But I'm Not a Reading Teacher

Rate this book
This book shows content area teachers in middle and high schools how to boost student achievement by including lessons and strategies which focus on students' reading comprehension without detracting from content area focus. These mini-lessons and strategies are research-based and address the specific literacy challenges of each particular subject area (social studies, mathematics, science, etc.). The author has provided a large number of reading examples from texts, sample tests and assessments, and actual mini-lessons, their content areas identified by marginal tabs.

I just finished this one (for my graduate class) and am seriously reminded that I am a reading teacher. All teachers are reading teachers! This book gives great suggestions for all of us to become better readers and of course better teachers of reading, especially those of us who teach in other content areas! Great book for middle level and high school level teachers. It's not as useful for younger elementary....

This book is very helpful for those non-English teachers, It was also helpful to me, an English teacher who knew little about teaching reading,

Some good ideas here, but the writing style is maybe a little too simple for me. It feels somewhat patronizing at times.

This book could be read by any teacher. It provides many strategies for teachers to incorporate reading strategies in their classroom. This book is full of great ideas, so I definitely recommend.
