In this follow-up to his bestselling Fire Country, Indigenous fire practitioner Victor Steffensen offers a positive pathway for healing the planet based on traditional knowledge systems.

In the aftermath of Australia's 2019–2020 Black Summer bushfires, changes to our environmental approach have been scant and Western land management practices continue to destroy the land. It's time for a 'new' way of thinking. The solutions lie in the cultures of First Peoples who have lived here for 65,000+ years, if only we're willing to listen.

Victor Steffensen spends his days educating people throughout Australia and the world about Aboriginal fire and land management knowledge. Applying the practices passed onto him by his mentors, Victor is on a mission to teach others the value of this knowledge.

In The Knowledge , Victor shares the simple yet core belief underlying Indigenous knowledge that humans are part of the natural world. The land is not something to be dominated and exploited. Rather, we are nature and the way forward is to realign ourselves with the Earth, recognising our responsibility to care for the planet environmentally and socially. Filled with stories of Victor's work applying Indigenous solutions throughout Australia and in Canada, The Knowledge will transform the way you think about our responses to bushfires, floods and the climate crisis. Ultimately, it will also lead to reflections within ourselves.

Never has the call to change our global environmental approach been so strong or so clear. Destined to become a seminal work in the space of Indigenous thinking and environmental solutions, The Knowledge is a must-read for anyone concerned about the future of our planet.

A brilliant book that reminds us of the answers that we have at our fingertips, and encourages us to look beyond our current failing systems for the voices that have always been here. The Knowledge is simply that, a dive into the knowledge of First Nations peoples and how it might be used and celebrated as a solution to our 21st century challenges. Victor Steffensen speaks with such warmth and clarity, you really feel as if you're travelling there beside him. Eye-opening and timely, this is a book that's bound to stay with me for years to come.
