There’s something timeless about Victorian poetry — and this collection truly leans into that aching beauty.
The language is delicate, romantic, and emotionally rich. So many of the poems carry that sweeping, almost melancholic intensity that feels designed to stir something deep within you. A few pieces genuinely brought tears to my eyes — the imagery, the devotion, the longing woven into each line is just stunning.
What held it just shy of five stars for me was that not every poem resonated personally. Some felt more distant than others, though I can absolutely appreciate their craft and elegance.
Overall, it’s a beautifully written collection that feels both dramatic and tender — perfect for slow reading, quiet evenings, and sitting with your feelings a little longer than usual.
I first heard about Victorian Poetry through the beautiful instagram account. The words, the visual, it all spoke to me dearly. I’m not usually a poetry reader but that account made me want to be.
This collection of poems is set in 3 parts; the meeting, the falling and the forever. The poems were dramatically romantic and melancholic but also achingly vulnerable.
The second part was my favorite. A lot of the poems resonated with me. It gripped a lot of emotions and moved me deeply. The author had a beautiful way with words and a stunning view on the complexity of love.
I should have known from the name of the book that Faith would be one of the main themes. It was particularly present on the third and final part, it was also the part that aligned the less with me. It disconnected me a bit.
Overall, I liked some of the poems and the yearning, selfless commitment, trust and empathy behind every words. But I also find them a bit repetitive at times, and some of them didn’t reverberate with me like I thought it would.
I find most poetry very mid, but Victorian Poetry just seems to land with me a far greater amount. Other poetry books of this length would maybe get 4 or 5 notations. This one got 15 😵💫. I would highly recommend this one to any poetry lover.
