Bigots, fundamentalists, and insane religious zealots hate many things in this world. In fact, if we were to write a list, it's not clear how many pages we'd require. However, there's one thing they can't stand, that really makes their blood boil and their beards stand on end... And that's being laughed at. In Jihad Squad, author Ibrahim S. Amin lifts the lid on the utter absurdity of Islamic fundamentalism (and, by proxy, all religious fundamentalism), and gives us a chance to belly-laugh at those who wish us to quiver in our boots.Abdul is a young wannabe jihadi, whose main cause for concern is his seeming inability to grow himself a good, strong, bushy beard. Despite this obvious drawback (for who ever heard of a beardless warrior of Allah?), Abdul's determined not to let the infidels win. He sets out on his own personal mission to spread the cause of a global caliphate... and finds all kinds of trouble along the way.Abdul's joined by his two best mates, Niqab Ninja and Tariq Taqiyya, and together they'll do whatever it takes (and we really mean this) to defeat the threat to Islamist fundamentalism, and vanquish the western world as a whole. Armed with the great Jihadonomicon (for every anti-hero needs a guidebook, after all), they'll come across a whole range of crazy scrapes, and do their bit to expose the madness, lunacy, and totally bonkers nature of their bloodthirsty ideology. It's every bit as insane as it sounds, and Ibrahim S. Amin manages to achieve his satire with all the subtlety of a suicide bomb, and all the taste of a camel's backside.
Ibrahim S. Amin was educated at the Manchester Grammar School, the University of Newcastle, and the University of Manchester. He wallowed in education for as long as he could, earning his PhD in Classics & Ancient History. At that point he ran out of excuses and joined the real world, where he now writes to support his unhealthy takeaway addiction.
I received this through a Goodreads book giveaway. It's a quick read, I finished the whole thing in 20 minutes. If you're easily offended and PC I would not recommend this to you. The content is humorous, definitely a satire and commentary on Islamic extremists/terrorism. With that in mind, this just wasn't my cup of tea.
