Sleep Sweet: A Steamy Military Romance

Rate this book
Secrets don't make friends. They make soulmates.
Elle
As a first-generation college student, I swore off conventionally hot men and stayed focused on my education. That is, until …
His ocean eyes crash into mine—right after he literally crashed into me.
That’s how Jesse and I meet—on the same day he signs his agreement to join the Navy after graduation.
And then we spend the next two years building our relationship.
Until he has to leave for boot camp, and my mantra becomes
Keep me calm, keep him safe, keep us together.
But it’s futile … because it’s all ruined in an instant.
Our future.
Our plans.
Our love.
Our trust.
It’s funny how two minutes can unravel two years. Two minutes was all he ever needed anyway.

Austin
Somehow, my dream girl has fallen out of my dreams and landed in my life for the second time.
Half of our story was written by the coincidence that had brought Jesse into my division when he reported for boot camp. His bad decisions and my memory of her forged the other half.
Two years have passed, but I’ve never forgotten her face.
Her striking brown eyes.
Those full, glazed lips.
The innocence.
I begged my memory to erase her.
I didn’t have time for many things because the Navy came first. Always.
But somehow, the tides have drifted Elle back into the safety of my harbor.
Nothing will stop me from making her mine.
And proving to her that I am worthy of being hers.
Before she finds out the truth.

I really enjoyed Sleep Sweet. This book is perfect for fated lovers, Navy romances, and lovers of the forbidden and age gap tropes.

Austin and Elle were a great couple, and I love how clear the devotion is between them. Austin really had her best interests at heart, which I think is a positive example of a healthy relationship. This made for a very enjoyable read.

Another thing I loved was how they each had their own lives and goals, which is one thing I think is harder to come by, especially in a lot of the romance books I have read. Many I have read focus solely on the connection between the characters and there is not enough mention of their own ambitions or lives outside of the other character. I really liked Sleep Sweet because all the characters are fully formed on their own and have so much going on for them individually.

The only reason I didn’t give this book five stars is because I felt it was a bit predictable in places and I wasn’t shocked by the events as they unfolded. I found I guessed the plot throughout, however, I did still thoroughly enjoy it as it made for a steady and easy read.

I loved the handwritten letters, especially Austin’s. I also liked that no part of the book felt dragged out, or equally, rushed. All the events felt well paced, which held my attention and encouraged me to keep reading.

This book has helped to get me out of a slump, and I really enjoyed it and recommend it. The spice was also very good. If I’m being picky, I would’ve liked some more spicy scenes. Still an amazing book with great attention to detail and the plot reflects this.

Bestie… this was a cute little story, and there were definitely moments where I was kicking my feet and swooning a bit.

This follows Ellie, a college student whose “boyfriend” is joining the Navy (and yes, the quotes are intentional 👀), and Austin, the Navy recruiter who has not been able to get Ellie out of his head since the first time she walked into his office. Fast forward two years, they reconnect under messy circumstances, and Austin basically said, “I’m not letting this slip away again,” and honestly… I respected that.

Now the pacing?? FAST. Like we are talking insta-lust with a side of timing is everything. Blink and suddenly we’re in it.

There were moments where I was genuinely swooning, but I’ll be honest bestie — there were also times where I struggled to fully connect with the characters, especially Austin. I wanted a little more depth to really feel invested in him and their relationship. I also wish we had more actual interaction between Ellie and Austin. We got a lot of internal monologues (which I didn’t hate), but I kept wanting more conversations between them to build that emotional connection. At times it felt like I was told the feelings more than I got to fully experience them.

Final verdict: cute, quick, a little swoony, but I wanted more depth and connection to really make it hit. If you love a fast-paced romance with a bit of Hallmark-style cringe (in a fun way), this is for you, I just needed a little more to be fully obsessed

Sleep Sweet is a Steamy Military Romance by Erica Easton blends emotional vulnerability with the intensity of military life. The story centres on Elle, a first generation college student determined to avoid distractions, and Jesse, the conventionally attractive guy she meets on the very day he signs his Navy enlistment papers.

Their relationship grows over two years, only to fracture in a moment that unravels everything they built. It’s at this point that Austin re-enters the picture. He’s a Navy recruiter whose connection to Elle begins long before she realizes it. The contrast between Jesse’s impulsive choices and Austin’s steady, quietly intense presence creates a compelling push pull dynamic. The military backdrop adds realism and tension, especially as the characters navigate duty, distance, and the emotional cost of service.

The dynamic between Elle, Jesse, and Austin creates a strong emotional triangle, one built not on melodrama but on timing, choices, and the consequences of a single moment. Elle and Austin definitely falls into a romance where the hero’s devotion is unwavering, the heroine’s journey is rooted in self discovery, and the past refuses to stay buried. You get both the sensuality and emotional heat, but you also get the psychological impact of heartbreak and the courage it takes to trust again.

This is a new author to me.

This story follows Elle, a college student who bumps into the swoon worthy Jesse who is just signing up to join the Navy. Austin is the Navy recruiter and can barely hold himself back when he too meets her for the first time alongside Jesse.

Elle was never really satisfied in her relationship with Jesse but supports him throughout his time as a navy recruit and is excited about his passing out. They communicate through letter and still he doesn’t express his feelings about their future together in the way she’d hoped for.

The letters start to change a little as they get closer to his graduation and she is excited to see him after all this time.

Austin has been thinking of Elle for the last 2 years and is beside himself that he will see her again even though the guilt of deceiving her is gnawing at him, as Austin has been the one sending the letters and is about to shatter Elle’s heart when he shows a video of Jesse having s💥x with a female recruit.

Elle is upset when she sees the video and Austin offers his support and home to see her through this difficult time. One thing leads to another and they share a special time before Jesse burns it down, again.

There were a few moments when Austin was borderline creepy, but I’m choosing to believe this was all done in love rather than anything sinister.

Oh my god!!
You need to read this book immediately.

This book is one I was mad to get my hands on. I was blessed to be able to get an advanced reader copy and I was not one bit dissatisfied.

Elle, a psychology student meets her boyfriend Jesse the day he’s signing up to join the navy. The pair get to know each other and date for two years before he has to go to boot camp.

This book was one I couldn’t put down and If im honest I didn’t want to. The author has this book so well written that I fear I’m headed for a reading slump after finishing this book.

Austin, a chief within the navy picks up all Elle’s broken pieces and helps her put herself back together. This book will leave you laughing, gasping, shocked, sad and most of all fulfilled.

There are so many fun bits in this book but also heart to hearts, desires and so much more.

The anxiety I had while reading certain chapters in this book is well let’s just say I’ve never experienced that from reading a book like ever!!!

I may or may not have actually said oh F**k and screamed at one stage. (I had my husband and kids looking at me while i said it wondering what the hell was happening) do I revert it? No. That’s how this book made me react.

Strap in and drop an anchor cause Sh*ts going down!!!

This was a five-star, three spice read for me! This is an MF military romance and is Erica's debut novel. What a brilliant start to a writing career! Tropes include: Dual POV, Forced Proximity, Second Chance, He Falls First, Age Gap, Navy Chief MMC, Heartbroken FMC, Slow Burn, Open Door Spice, Temperature Play, He Gives Her Multiple Os, Protective Hero, He Knows Her Coffee Order, HEA.
. . .
This portion may contain spoilers! Okay, full disclosure - this story contains cheating and what some may consider a third act breakup HOWEVER please trust me when I say the story is very well-written and the plot does what it has to do to accomplish the HEA the MCs both desperately deserve. Truthfully, this is a story that I could re-read. Please give it a spin!!
. . .
Elle (FMC) is determined not to let any man stand in the way of her education. Then Jesse (MMC) happens. He's popular, charismatic, and all the things hot college guy dreams are made of. That's exactly what their relationship turns into, just more of a nightmare. When Jesse heads off boot camp, Elle isn't feeling solid in the relationship. When she arrives for his graduation, her fears are solidified. Lucky for her Austin (MMC) is prepared to help her pick up the pieces, and then some.

Elle meets Jesse by chance the day he signs up for the Navy. Over the next two years, everything feels almost perfect, except he is a little selfish when it comes to making sure she is fully satisfied.

When he leaves for boot camp, they stay connected through constant letters.

Until one day, they stop.

Elle turns up to his graduation, only to find he isn’t there and discovers he has been unfaithful.

Heartbroken, she realises she can no longer trust him. Then in comes Austin, the chief who interviewed Jesse two years ago… and hasn’t forgotten about Elle since.

Okay, hear me out. Austin is a walking red flag. Not saying Jesse isn’t, but Austin takes it to another level. He manipulates situations and bends the truth to get what he wants, and it really shouldn’t be as charming as it is… but it just is.

He’s been obsessed with Elle for two years, all from a distance.

Austin knows what he likes and he would do anything to get it, but deep down he just wants to love someone and be loved, and that makes him okay in my book.

This book is completely unhinged in the best way, and I loved every second. The spice absolutely fits the story too

Sleep Sweet by Erica Easton
Releasing March 31st

I have been so excited to read this book since coming across the blurb on instagram months ago. Once I started reading, I could NOT put it down! Elle and Austin are what book couples are made of. Elle is such a sweetheart from the start, she is smart, determined and wants to help people with ptsd. She is very close with her parents and has an amazing best friend to help her through life.

Austin is very reserved and authoritative when you first meet him, but this man is gone for Elle after he sees her for the first time. He becomes obsessed and will do anything to have her. He doesn’t have any family left but he is determined to have the kind of love his grandparents had. Austin is such an emotionally mature character and I loved reading his POV.

This book was amazing and I will be thinking about it for a while. The emotional depth between both characters was everything I could ask for. I could’ve easily read more about Elle and Austin because I loved them so much. This will definitely be in my top 5 reads for the year!

This was a cute one!! I was intrigued by the storyline going in and it didn't disappoint! The way Easton wrote about the military experience was real in a way that I imagine only someone with actual experience could write about. Elle meets Jesse on the day he signs up for the military, and proceed to date for two years until he leaves for bootcamp. On the day of his bootcamp graduation, their entire relationship unravels in an instant. Enter: Austin. Austin hasn't been able to stop thinking about Elle since he saw her during his Navy recruits 2 years earlier. When things go south with Jesse, Austin steps in to be her anchor, determined not to let her get away. He's a goner when it comes to Elle, but they were so sweet together. He was steady and emotionally mature, essentially everything Jesse was not. I will say the book felt very fast paced, and found myself wishing there was more time spent developing the relationship between Austin and Elle, and conversations between them instead of reading what they felt most of the time. Thank you so much to Greys Promotions and the author for allowing me to read and review!

I’m not sure what I can say without spoiling too much. On the same day Elle meets Jesse (and starts dating him), she meets Austin. Both men are immediately attracted to her, but Austin is shipping out the next day - though even two years later, he still hasn’t forgotten Elle. Two years later when Jesse leaves for boot camp near Chicago, he gets into trouble which is where Austin steps in. Could Austin finally have a chance to get to know Elle?

Tropes:

•Military Romance
•Love Triangle (of sorts)
•Forced Proximity
•Epistolary
•Age Gap

I don’t know how to feel about this book. I feel like Austin manipulated his and Elle’s romance and was not redeemed at the end. That’s just my opinion. Overall, I enjoyed the story, I just kept waiting to find out more about the characters than just the surface level details. The writing is good, and I am looking forward to more from this author. I enjoyed the fact that it’s set in my hometown. The author did a great job of capturing the vibe of Pensacola. I hope that books which continue the series are good.

Read Sleep Sweet and let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss!

Sleep Sweet had a lot of emotional potential, especially with the heavy theme of cheating woven into a contemporary romance—but for me, it landed right in the middle.
The strongest part of the book is definitely the emotional tension. The betrayal hits hard, and the author doesn’t shy away from showing the messy, painful side of relationships. There were moments that felt very raw and real, especially when it came to trust being broken and the aftermath of that.
That said, the pacing felt uneven. Some parts dragged, while others—especially important emotional turning points—felt rushed. I found it hard to fully connect with the characters at times, particularly the romantic dynamic. The chemistry didn’t always feel convincing, which made it harder to root for the relationship after everything that happened.
If you like angsty, drama-filled romances with flawed characters and difficult relationship dynamics, this might still work for you. But if you’re looking for strong redemption arcs or deeply developed emotional payoff, this one might feel a bit lacking.
Overall, a solid but not unforgettable read.

Elle is a first generation college student, and she is determined to work hard.
Until the day Jesse Jenkins crashes into her life. Literally.

They met on the same day he signed up to join the Navy for after graduation, they built their relationship over the next two years until that day came and he was sent to boot camp.

The day of his graduation from boot camp changed their lives.

Austin met Elle at her college campus the day he recruited Jesse. 2 years and he never forgot her face, and was it fate that landed Jesse into his division in boot camp?

This was a good read, lots of secrets and lies. Devastation. Swoon worthy moments. Military romance with some age gap 😏. I enjoyed it, but I wasn’t completely enthralled with it.

🚢🌊💙How do I just causally drop that this book squeaked a tear from my black heart. The story alone is just sweet but reading more about the author really grounded me. I, too a veteran spouse have an understanding of the time and space that lingers between two people when they cannot be in one another’s presence.
Erica writes the military experience with such ease and informed details. My vet hubby even read excerpts and wanted to know her source - which I shared once I got to the end.
I devoured this book in 5hrs and I’m sad that I did bc I want more. Erica will be an author that I’ll keep an eye out for…so from one FL-military girl to another…I see you and thank you for sharing Elle and Austin’s much needed story.

Arc review

Have you ever felt that quiet sadness after finishing a book—realizing you’ll never experience it for the first time again? That’s exactly how I felt after devouring this one.

It was so tastefully written. Erica is the queen of analogies—her quirky, vivid comparisons made every emotion hit even harder. What started as a “safe” love story quickly turned into a full roller coaster of feelings.

I truly felt like Elle and I grew together throughout the story. And I absolutely loved the friendship between Elle and Ruthie—she always had Elle’s best interests at heart, and no matter what life threw her way, she was a force to be reckoned with!

Austin… my true love of a man, you will always have the most special place in my—wood shed… I mean heart.

Erica Easton, you better get those fingers ready—we need MORE!

First of all, special thanks to Erica Easton and Grey's Promotion for allowing me to read this exceptional book as an E-ARC!

At the beginning, I was struggling to go through the first pages... but when I got the main thread of the story BOOM! I enjoyed the story, and I have to admit, I was giggling a lot and crying a bit. But I have to recommend this book because the intensity of what makes you feel is so true and deep. I need more books from Miss Easton ASAP!!

My favorite quotes:
I knew he was human and that humas weren't perfect. That was what made them unique. Beautiful even.

"Smells amazing. Should I call you Chef or Chief this morning?"

"Well, what is your vibe then?" She stepped closer. Electricity struck my stomach.
"You," I whispered. "You're my vibe, Elle."

Thank you Erica Easton and Grey’s Promotions for allowing me to ARC read Sleep Sweet!

This story follows Austin and Elle. Austin and Elle had a very brief meeting at Elle’s college that left Austin practically obsessed with her. Elle’s then-boyfriend, Jesse, joins the Navy bootcamp, where Austin turns out to be one of his instructors. As Jesse’s time in bootcamp progresses, the unthinkable happens that flips Elle’s world upside down. None other is Austin there to help her pick up the pieces, but she soon learns that Austin may have done some unthinkable things as well.

This story definitely had a lot of potential, but I think it ultimately lacked depth and expansion. I feel like there were a lot of questions left unanswered and the building relationship with Austin and Elle could have definitely been explored more.

thank you to the author for the ARC!

i was pulled in by the premise right away—it’s a strong concept and super easy to get into. the story flows well, and i found myself flying through it to see how everything would play out.

for me, it leaned more predictable than anything—not necessarily a bad thing, but it made me want more depth and buildup. it felt like we skipped over pieces that would’ve made the ending hit harder, and i honestly think it needed 10+ more chapters or just more detail to fully bridge those gaps.

and the MMC… i get what was intended, but he came off more stalkerish than compelling, which made it hard for me to connect with the romance at all.

overall, it had a solid foundation and a lot of potential, but it just didn’t feel fully developed in the way i was hoping for.

This is the first in a new series, and what an amazing story this is!
Elle is a college student who is focused on her education, when she accidentally runs into Jesse, on the day he signs up to join the Navy after graduation. Austin is a Navy chief, who is captivated by Elle from the moment he sees her run into his new recruit. Over 2-years Elle and Jesse build their relationship, until he leaves for bootcamp, when she crosses paths with Austin who is determined not to let her slip through his fingers.
This is a good story which is an easy to read, slow burn, emotionally charged story, with secrets, forced proximity, trust, second chances, self-discovery, an age gap, humour, soulmates, and love, which leads to an enjoyable, military romance.
I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

This book is fantastic! I could not put it down, the writing, the storyline, the characters hooked me in and held my attention.

In this could be real life, Elle meets Jesse the day he signs up to join the Navy. She is a college student and the two date for two years before he heads to bootcamp. Upon graduating from bootcamp, the relationship falls apart.

Enter Austin, he briefly met Elle during his Navy recruiting days and has not been able to stop thinking about her. He steps in when Elle and Jesse break up to be her support. He is her rock, and knows he cannot let her get away.

I appreciated the details, and the emotions the author is provoking, and maybe hitting close to home for this reader. I am planning to follow this author and read what she brings us in the future.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

So the relationship starts off with Elle and Jesse, who bump into each other on the day he makes a big decision on joining the Navy. That’s when the recruiter Austin meets both of them and is instantly infatuated with Elle. Fast forward 2 years: Elle and Jesse are still in a relationship, and he leaves for Navy boot camp. They write to each other, and he ends up getting himself in trouble. Here is where Austin comes back in; he’s one of the instructors. He does some, in my opinion, stalker-ish stuff once you figure out what he did, but it’s all in the name of love. I wish we got more of who Austin was besides him just lusting for Elle after meeting her for maybe 30 minutes. I did enjoy the book and found it had some good moments, but I needed more from them just falling for one another after she has this terrible thing happen to her.

Elle meets Jesse the day he signs his enlistment contract for the Navy. After he finishes the last 2 years of college he goes off to boot camp and while there he breaks Elle's heart.

On the day Jesse signed his contract Elle also met Austin the recruitment officer. From that day Austin can't stop thinking about Elle. He helps mend her broken heart.

The book had a bit of a rocky start for me as Austin was giving me some red flags. As the book progressed I fell in love with him along with Elle.

Austin shows Elle how she should be treated and what she was missing while with Jesse for 2+ years. There was laughing, crying, and the spicy bits were oh so good.

Thank you Grey's Promotions for the eARC.

I enjoyed reading Sleep Sweet. Both Elle and Austin were good characters who had good chemistry and a solid connection. Watching their relationship progress was interesting and I liked seeing them both working towards their dreams. Getting to know Austin’s past and how much he admired his grandparents was really special too. I enjoyed the secondary characters, Ruthie was an absolute blast! I would’ve love to have seen more of their careers and life later on. I do think there was more of Jesse than we needed to see personally and thought some things could’ve been taken out as they didn’t really need to be there. Overall however, I enjoyed this read and encourage others to give it a go.

Sleep Sweet
By Erica Easton

I was honored to receive this book as an advanced reader copy and I DEVOURED it! Author Erica Easton took me on an adventure somewhat reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast meets Little Red Riding Hood and I loved that!

While Elle Madelyn and Jesse Jenkins have a comfortable relationship, Elle has a nagging sense that something is missing. Which leads to a mental roadblock while thinking of their future.
Enter Jesse’s recruitment officer, Chief Austin Carterson. Big, bad and devastatingly sweet and handsome, he falls for Elle at first sight.

Mistakes are made along the way, some unforgivable. Who will win Elle’s trust and heart?

You will definitely want to grab this book which releases on March 31st!

Where to begin, this book pulls your heart in so many directions. Absolutely loved it! It hooked me right away and kept me turning pages the whole time. The mix of romance, tension, and steamy moments was done so well between Austin and Elle.—It never felt over the top, just really natural and engaging. ⚓️

The characters felt real and relatable, and their chemistry was amazing. I wanted more and couldn’t get enough of Austin. I appreciated the military storyline—it added so much depth and made everything feel more intense and meaningful. 🔥

If you’re into emotional, humorous, spicy romances with strong characters and a great storyline, I highly recommend this one. Such a great read! I can’t wait for more from this author. ❄️

I read this book as an ARC and I wanted to love it, but it simply fell flat for me. I’ve lived a large part of my adult life around the military and I don’t like the way the MMC was necessarily depicted regarding his career and choices. Also, I don’t mind an instant attraction but the level of his devotion to a girl he didn’t even have a real interaction with was off for me and then add to that he held on for YEARS not even dating anyone else? It was just not my cup of tea at all. The writer did a fine job but the storyline just fell flat. This is the only review I’ll write or share simply because it was an ARC but I respect the writer and I don’t want to hurt her book in any way on other sites.

Now I'm not a big proponent of advertising the US military complex, but this book sure had me loving some sailors. This story was a fun and quick read following a "I'm not letting you slip through my fingers again" kind of love. I thought the story was quick and easy to follow, especially to swoon over. I agree with some other reviews that Austin should have had some more depth to his character. I just wasn't connecting/falling for him as a reader as much as I think I should have, leaving me a bit disconnected to see why he is supposidly "all that" as a person. That being said, it was still a lovely read once I realized I just wasn't going to get more out of his character and pushed that aside for the sake of a romance read. Great job Erica Easton!

Fiction - Romance

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the author’s debut book. This book is for readers who enjoy a military romance with a love triangle.

Elle Madelyn, Jesse Jenkins, and Austin Carterson all meet on the same day. Both Jesse and Austin take a liking to Elle. Jesse and Elle begin a relationship that lasts for two years until Jesse reports to the navy. Austin never forgot about her.

Both Jesse and Austin betray Elle’s trust. Neither one deserves her, in my opinion. One man redeems himself and gains Elle’s love again with a romantic gesture.

I had to take some time to think about what I wanted to say. First, I really enjoyed the book. I love Elle's growth and ability to determine her own worth. But holy moly were there massive red flags with Austin that had me screaming psycho and run for your life. But I'm not going to yuck on someone's yum.

The story went way too fast. I kinda wish there was more interaction between Jesse and Austin. I was really sad when I got to the last page because I wanted more. More details on Austin and Elle's day to day. Just more.

Like I said I really enjoyed the book! Definitely a good book that has you saying WTF and hell yeah!

“All I can tell you is this … one of your biggest goals in life should be to find a love that needs little explanation. It’s classic when you need tenderness, and it’s unbreakable when you need strength. It will last forever because you treat it as such. It’s everything.”

A lovely, easy to read story of Elle, her boyfriend Jesse, and Austin, a man who wants her heart. This book is about overcoming heartache, realizing potential, fighting for what’s deserved, and going after happiness. This love story isn’t conventional, but it’s such a great read! I found myself smiling often and was so happy to see where it took me. Happy reading!
