The greatest [Mage] of Izril has not been seen in eight years.
Yet, like the King of Destruction, it is time to awaken. However, the Archmage of Izril is not quite asleep, and not quite awake. Is she trapped, or is there more going on? No one knows, for not a single person who has gone to see her has ever returned.
Yet the Wind Runner of Reizmelt is drawn to adventures and magic like bees to blue fruit juice. With her new friend, Fierre, Ryoka Griffin is about to do a Courier's task, and magic is rising across the world.
From Wistram to Rhir, great [Mages] are awakening or on the rise. At the same time, Klbkch and Anand have returned to the Hivelands of the Antinium to see other Hives so unlike Liscor's.
Book eighteen of The Wandering Inn is filled with magic, strange [Druids], running, and, of course, white Gnolls.
I LOVED IT ALL!!! I’ve been waiting to jump back into this world and I’m so happy to be back! So many perspectives going on and I’m here for them all! I think the chapters in Rhir might be some of the best I’ve seen since the Liscor saga. I really hope to see more of it and especially the clown! I’m happy to be getting back to Riverfarm too! It’s been a minute and we only had a minute with it as well so I’m back to waiting. Man this world has just gotten so expansive that the Inn chapters aren’t even my favorite anymore. Which is saying a lot. Oh! And that last chapter! Holy cow! The Ryoka stuff is picking up too! Like, I’ve been hooked since the beginning, so I don’t care how far they still have to go, Pirateaba will still be stringing me along at the end. Can’t wait for more! Also Andrea ParWho??? Bennett is killing it at this point. Still the best narrated series out there!
Was a bit worried after all the legwork and pushing around the players for the last 3 books (it's insane to think about the scale this series is operating on lol)... But now it kind of clicks together!
Big stuff coming up, some crazy chapters in this one... So excited again to finally be back in full-investment for TWI now! And even happier that the next audiobook is already due in under a month! Yayyy! So first the couriers and then Solstice at last, huh? ^^
What can I say that I haven't already said in the last 17 reviews that I've posted! I absodamnlutely love this book/series!!! Soooooooo many story threads left dangling! And I need the Next book so bad it hurts! Fortunately "Couriers Outbound" will be released May 26, I don't know about you but I've already pre-ordered it... get it or be square! In this book, the collection of short novels and novellas that make pirateaba books a complete whole. You’re gonna get your Mrsha fix right away and Liscor will be a lot safer for it. And speaking of Liscor I found it quite humorous that Liscor has added a second alarm to their arsenal, the first for normal dangers like monsters, or a dungeon break, the second alarm is dedicated solely to the happenings at the Wandering Inn, called the Solstice Alarm! 😆 where Watch Captain Zevara personally deals with the problem day or night! Meanwhile Erin Solstice goes back to school! Also in this world dead doesn't always mean the end... where you lay in the dirt where you've fallen, 🤔 not when duty and honor demand you report back to your Superior, and to say goodbye to your loved ones. There's plenty happening with the Antinium too. Several different Gold rank adventure teams are spotlighted as well. Az’kerash is still holding Toren captive. Even though he's a skeleton and doesn't feel pain or much in the way of emotion, still my heart bleeds for Toren! And if you've wanted to find more about Ryoka Griffin this is your chance... so what are you waiting for grab the book better yet get the audiobook because Erin Bennett is GRrrate!
Archmage’s Ire feels like a welcome recalibration. After some sprawling, high-intensity arcs, this installment returns to a more familiar and, frankly, more satisfying rhythm, one that leans into the heart of what makes The Wandering Inn so compelling: its characters.
The renewed focus on Erin and her circle brings back the emotional grounding that can sometimes get diluted in larger, multi-thread narratives. Erin’s presence anchors the story again, blending warmth, chaos, and quiet resilience in a way that reminds you why she’s such a standout protagonist. Alongside her, Ryoka’s storyline continues to shine, offering a complementary tone of introspection and drive. Their arcs feel purposeful here, not just like pieces in a larger puzzle but as meaningful journeys in their own right.
Pacing-wise, this volume hits a sweet spot. It moves with intention without feeling rushed, allowing character moments to breathe while still building toward something larger. And that payoff lands: the book closes on a genuine high note, carrying the sense that another major chapter in the overarching narrative has reached its conclusion. It’s the kind of ending that feels both satisfying and quietly anticipatory.
That said, the audiobook experience remains uneven. The narrator continues to struggle with consistency in character voices. At times, characters sound noticeably different from earlier portrayals, which can be disorienting especially in a story with such a large cast. In comparison to Andrea, Erin also does not do a good voice for certain groups, like the Antinium.
Overall, Archmage’s Ire is a strong entry that recenters the story where it thrives best: with its core characters and their evolving relationships. While the audiobook has its flaws, the strength of the narrative itself makes this a rewarding and memorable installment.
I am so amazed by the writing of Pirateaba. 18 books and they all were great, 21 if you count The Singer of Terandria series, and I do. I recommend those three books be read between books 16 and 17. I don't know how Pirate keeps up the greatness. This may be the best of the bunch, it was soooo good. I am soooo sad that I have to wait, who knows how long (not long, Pirate is prolific!) for book 19. If you want to get lost in another world with hundreds of fully fleshed out characters of all kinds, you need to start this. Book 1 is a bit rough, or at least the first half is, but it too was fantastic. I love these characters. I am a better person for having read all this. No killing goblins!
5 stars. Loved it. Ryoka has awakened an archmage. Magnolia Reinhardt almost died but Tyrion veltras saves her and almost died himself. Magnolia gets teleported to who knows where by most likely the dragon tariark. We are learning a bit about oteslia the produce wall city. They grow everything there. The students from neirs are also on their way to oteslia so close. Magnolia was about to go there too but this attempt on her life got in the way. Grimmalkin the buff drake is getting info from the earth humans like magnolia did although he thinks they are from the future not another world. Competitions are being held worldwide by the “tv” Can’t wait to the next book. Hope I remember all

One of my favourite things about the Wandering Inn is how I can suddenly be transported to a new location, with new characters, and still find the storytelling compelling - despite how many other characters, locations, and storylines I could otherwise be spending time with. There was a lot to enioy about this book in general - with small and large moments from some of my favourites, like Saliss and Laken and the Antinium - but the bulk of the middle section (in Rihr, partly with Tom the Clown) focuses on a bunch of new characters, and winds up being one of the best parts of the series to date. An absolute delight.
A lot of things to like about this volume. And then there are some things that I found less than interesting. For some reason the Unseen Empire just doesn't resonate with me. I enjoyed the Emperor's tale at the start, and for a lot of the middle, but since his decision to go to Liscor it just hasn't been as interesting - even the Witch-centric volume from several books ago (even if I ultimately think that storyline is going to be lit!).
I don't know who would possibly read this, but if you happen to come across this short review, just know that this series is amazing, even after 18 books and tens of thousands of pages, Pirateaba continues to pen amazing stories.
As great as always, there is plenty of smaller threads and ministories. Rhir part was fine...Clown is back!, Ryoka´s courier chapters were fun and Tyrion Veltras suprised quite a lot (not really). Harlac and Rags are together again...love it as always and I think next volume will be a blast. Four stars is because this volume is kinda all over the place and is obviously preparing reader for next big things to come. Still, four stars for Wandering Inn is 6/5 for normal book.
This fragment of Volume 7 covers a very good section of Ryoka's story. I remember loving it when I read it in the web novel (which is free and covers up to volume 10 btw).
You can expect mystery, tension, dungeons and a ramping up in the pacing!
Volume 7 gets really really good by the end and it's the last of the setup volumes!
Wow, finally some of the different POV arcs get closer to each other and others are fleshed out and as a whole, this is a solid book. I like that folks are starting to put together what happened with the Earthers, and that we got more info on the Antinium. Even my least favorite character got a sort of redemption arc and became a little less creepy and a little more human.
This is the first book that i have read on the website. I enjoyed it a lot more on audio. While i'm still just mostly invested in the inn and liscor plot lines. This book did have a couple other very cool side plots and earther povs. I am once again at the Crossroads of to read the website or wait for book releases.
Not for the first time, a book written by Pirateaba has made me choke up. Pirateaba, for all that litrpg is considered to be juvenile by some, is probably my favorite author in the genre. They consistently pull me into the world, and make me feel like I'm beside the characters, experiencing their triumphs and defeats, in a visceral way. Absolutely recommend.
The different patches start to come together. With our groups from earth FINALLY contacting each other we finally did the first step to the bigger plot. I got lost in the middle, with all the new characters introduced, that we prob never gonna see again. But well atleast the ball started to roll. It was way better than the last book imo. :)
Brilliant and many unexpected events...that better be resolved in the next book. Chekhov's Gun...or you spent a LOT of time showing parts of stories only to make them useless (but I trust you. You haven't let me down yet).
A lot of ground is covered in this book. We see some character in the clown that we have not seen in a long time and we have some worlds colliding with Geneva and Erin. Since so many characters are touched we get a little plot progression in lot of different plots.
Loved the new audiobook, the voice actress is doing phenomenal work. Yes there are changes, but the series is huge, it may be the first change of cast of many. Still perfect work
Made me cry, made me laugh, made me not got enough sleep. I mean, if you've got this far you already love it, (or are some sort of weird reading masochist).
Well, I caught up. This wasn't my favorite of the series, but it is still great. It is hard to believe this far in, thst we still have new characters being brought in.
I liked the story, but I still don't love the new narrator. She is serviceable but definitely not up to the standards that Andrea set. If you don't like cliffhangers, then wait until the next one comes out before listening to this one! The story moves right along, and the scenes with Erin and the people at the inn tend to be my favorites. I don't love the King of Destruction and could live without those scenes, but I assume they will be important to the story down the road. I listened to all 48 hours within 3 days, so it must have been good. Of course, I was stuck at home with COVID all week, so I had the time to do it.
