These stories just get better and better. Andy is almost coming out of his depression when he plunges back in as a result of action on Eden. The author creates some truly horrible enemy characters, the plot is so twisted and intricate that it is impossible to second-guess, and it is even hard to tell who is the enemy and who is not. Once again there was no question about buying Recce II to finish up this segment of Andy's career.
I’ve spent 12 years in The USARMY as an Infantry NCO, most of that time as a Sniper in a Recon platoon. This is hands down the best military sci-fi series I have ever read. It is so accurate to how life is at the Section level while still being wildly entertaining.
Andy Moralee only had a short time to recover. Days after waking up in a hospital in the city of Paraiso, he returns to his platoon in time to deploy deep into enemy-held territory. Their Guard allies are mounting a daring raid on a village deep in the forests of the world of Eden. The reconnaissance platoon has been given a pivotal role in the operation.
However, a series of apparent errors by their supposed allies begin to make the soldiers suspicious. Someone doesn’t want them to succeed. The Loyalist Militia has spies among the local population and the Guard itself. Undermined by Loyalist spies, with fanatical enemies all around, Andy and his platoon must keep their nerve as the battlefield situation changes.
Review:
This is the fourth book in the Union Series written by Phillip Richard. Lance Corporal Andy Moralee is a squad leader within a reconnaissance platoon (RECCE). In book three (Eden), he was injured trying to save innocent civilians from corrupt Guard troopers. Now it appears that there was more at work than atrocities committed by their allies. Elements within the Guard are trying to start a war between the colonial powers.
Andy and the platoon are tasked with helping the Guard take and hold a key position from the Loyalists. With enemies hidden among their allies, the tactical situation deteriorates. the RECCE platoon must dig deep to survive. RECCE is a fast-paced novel with a British soldier’s perspective on what future wars will look like.
This is a very intense read keeps you going begging for more I mean I understand the importance of rank going slow but the lancejack should be going to ocs or a academy plus all the books are great for a enlisted tactical viewpoint not meny of those can't wait for more and thank you the author for your past and continued service I am a full time paramedic and have been so for 15 years and appreciate your pause for medical attention and care of the troops good luck and stay safe.stephen m Fraley.
Solid growth in the series can't wait for the next installment.
Recce was a great addition too the series. I'm not sure if it's because of the ending or not but some of the "soul" seemed to be missing that was in earlier books. Best I can put my finger on it's lower amount of internal struggle Andy is dealing with this time around. The increased amount of political intrigue really helps with the world building as well, I look forward to seeing how it plays out. A great addition to the series and I fully intend to read the next installment.
As with the three previous books in this series that follows the campaigns of the main character Andy Moralee, the action is fast paced and unrelenting, skipping from one skirmish to the next, almost without pausing for a rest that left me feeling exhausted. I personally think that the story is way too complex and this detracts a lot of enjoyment from a very solid and vividly written story, however saying that, the book is immensely enjoyable and gets 5 stars and the thumbs up from me.
Fast paced and a twisting read. Politics and military are supposed to be in harmony but what happens to troopers when the politicos are not on the up and up.
Mr Richards is really Woking hard to improve his story telling. Sir you are doing a great job I can't wait to read about Andy and how troopers Morales cope with love, hate, killing and just being human.
I enjoyed the other books in the series and when I saw this one I bought it without question. It was just as good as the others. The main problem was that a section of the book he didn't edit and it got very hard to read.
This series continues to impress me. The author clearly has a solid direction, his writing is tight, concise, and to the point. I look forward to the next in the series to find out how they get off Hill Kilo.
As good as the rest of the series, with the main character less dark. The ending will leave you hanging, for sure. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
