Providing graded readings in Koine Greek from the New Testament, Septuagint, Apostolic Fathers, and early creeds, this unique text integrates the full range of materials needed by intermediate Greek students. Its many features include four helpful vocabulary lists, numerous references to other resources, assorted translation helps, a review of basic grammar and syntax, and an introduction to BDAG —the standard Greek lexicon.
Used for a class this semester. Readers are all pretty much alike for the most part, but I loved that Decker widened the selection of texts to include Septuagint, Church Fathers, and Creeds.
This was a useful means to introduce more detailed aspects of Greek grammar such as uses of cases, the infinitive, and participles, I had to translates most of the passages in this workbook from my intermediate Greek class. It is also useful that this reader isn't only NT Greek, but also includes some passages from the LXX and Early Church Fathers to give a wider scope of introducing Greek students to other important Greek writings for Biblical Studies.
Excellent passages that don't intimidate you and your pathetic understanding of ancient Greek. I love that he adds vocabulary that you'll need to know (mostly words that are used 25x or more). Even better, he adds some Septuagint passages and some apocrypha for advanced learners (the people everyone hates).
Thorough & exhaustive. Decker, Rodney. Koine Greek Reader: Selections from the New Testament, Septuagint, and Early Christian Writers. Grand Rapids, MI: Kregel, 2007.
