guys i was SO excited for this and it was one of the biggest let downs ive had this year, i am a 3-4 star average reader so this was kind of insane as pembroke hills has become one of my favourite series 😭

tyson was SO hyped up in the prev books and i had some expectations for this man but oh my days this was such a disappointment. i freaking despise the insta love trope and oh dear this was the definition of this trope.

if you loved this book no hate at all! we all have different preferences but i am a fast reader, this took 20 days to LISTEN to on audio, on 3x mind you 😭 (that's my reg speed but i wish the app allowed a faster speed...)

i felt as if this couple was lacking what i prefer to read in romance novels these days, angst, banter, emotional longing, and deep connection- it felt very lust-y (which is fine IF we get the emotional yearning to make up for it cough cough undone) and surface level. josie and tyson were immediately attracted to each other and from the beginning tyson made it very clear where he stood with her which is a good thing ofc!

my favourite parts of this story were all the snippets we got of scarlett and her secrets with pembroke hills. second chance is my favourite trope of all time so im am counting down the days until her and grayson's story!!!! as the number one second chance apologist i am so ready and sat for this book, and yk ofc praying that kat redeems herself for me 🙈

if you are a fan of simple summer romances and cliche stories - this is probably up your alley and worth checking out! if you haven't read this series yet i don't think you would dislike it as much as i did, the way kat wrote bad for business and more than friends set me up for high expectations as those were some of my top reads of 2025 and 2026 🥲

honestly, i'm not sure whether to rate this 2 or 3 stars but i think i'm just going to keep it at 3 stars until further notice? i feel so sad that i don't love this book as much as i wanted to, bc if you know me, i loved the first few books in pembroke hills!

im not really sure about her tbh. i felt like in the book her worries for her manuscript was repeated so many times and nothing was ever done to actually resolve it till the end? but i do like how she's portrayed as an independent woman tho. also i loved her cat tho? ngl i think it has the most personality out of the two mcs.

i thought i was going to love tyson before coming into this book, and im just sad that i dont love him.. also idk why he's kinda obsessed with making sure josie is eating cuz they're both super wealthy, like billionaire level wealthy. so you'd expect josie has a private chef or smth to keep herself fed..

also i felt like there's nothing happening throughout the book? cuz both of them fall in love fairly quickly.. and then just when you think something is actually happening (like josie's grandfather being ill at a hospital or tyson's dad calling him for money) it gets resolved almost immediately in a few pages.. like WHAT!?

despite that, i think tyson and josie were really sweet together! their little meet cute with josie's cat, mouse, was kinda cute! however, i just wish there were more substance outside of the insta lovey romance!

oh and i also loved the cameos of the other characters in pembroke hills! absolutely loved it when jude & charlotte came on the page! like i missed them so so much!

I think it is very hard to pull off a convincing story of Insta-Love. But truly, Kat Singleton had a really great set up for it with Long Story Short. And Tyson and Josie were the perfect characters with open hearts to make it believable.

Josie is an author who is tasked with reworking her romance novel, so she goes to stay at her grandfather's home in the Hamptons. She brings her cat and plans to hole up and try to find the inspiration to write a joyful story. But fears that her spark is lost.

Tyson has recently moved to the Hamptons to be closer to his sister and his new home is right next to Josie. When her cat makes a visit to his home, they start talking and a connection is formed. Josie doesn't have time for distractions but very quickly, she starts to find inspiration for her fictional romance but spending time with a REAL man in her life.

This was just a very sweet, easy romance to like. It read very quickly and it was a pleasure to consume.

The audio was narrated in the Duet Style with Emma Wilder & Robert Hatchet, who brought a powerful performance to the romance.

Tyson and Josie were so good! 😊 wasn’t really sure what to expect from Tyson Bishop but he exceeded every single one of my expectations.

The man was just so good, so steady and so sure of Josie from the beginning and this man is husband material for sure. I also just loved the premise because as a book girl through and through I just love when the FMC is an author.

I love it even more when she makes the hit billionaire her muses this one was perfectly balanced with swoon and spice and Kat’s writing never ceases to draw me in and keep me hooked.

I just love this series with my whole heart and can’t wait for one more trip back to Pembrooke Hills.

I was LOCKED IN at the beginning, so obsessed with both Tyson and Josie. They had me swooning and giggling and even though their relationship moved fast, I loved them both together.

Unfortunately, about 85% in until the end gave me complete whiplash. The story I was falling in love with totally lost all semblance of a plot. It felt completely rushed with zero tension. Never once in the story does Tyson talk about his family with Josie. Everything with her grandpa resolves in a few seconds. They never discuss the future or where they will live. I wanted so much more and for whatever reason, it felt like a different book that was just trying to be finished.

I did binge this so quickly and loved a lot about it, just ultimately wanted a lot more at the end!

Tyson was the perfect dream for me. And you know why? Because, honestly, I imagined it to be completely different, and I love realizing that appearances can be deceiving.

Tyson was so romantic, affectionate, thoughtful, and kind; he’s the perfect definition of a “book boyfriend.” I liked the dynamic between the two of them; I absolutely loved his patience and his determination to just go after what he wants, which in this case is her. On the other hand, Josie felt very real in the sense that her job and how she was dealing with it gave me that sense of authenticity. Her tenacity, her passion for writing, her imagination, her personality she was truly the perfect princess, but without needing a prince to come rescue her; if anything, a prince who would sit by her side.

I LOVE it when both of them are millionaires; they don’t need to impress anyone or go to great lengths just because they have money. I also love that she WASN’T the typical spoiled girl, quite the opposite: polite, kind, patient, and classy. They’re both walking “green flags,” and that completely sweeps me off my feet!!

I thought the spice was exquisite, the perfect Kat Singleton touch.

There is no denying that that fictional man was in fact written by a woman because that man is walking talking green flag down bad obsessed golden retriever. Listen all I'm going to say is this book had me kicking my feet and blushing all the way til the end like a little school girl with a crush! The tension within this book is off the charts! I mean hello, can we talk about chapter 19 for a minute... like the way that out FMC is a romance author and she jet sets to the Hamptons for the summer to work on her novel only for Tyson Bishop to be her hot next door neighbor, who is a very love distraction by the way, and this many quite literally tells her he wants to be her INSPIRATION for her book 🫠 I'm sorry what?!?! Like this man was like let me show you how your MMC in your book should treat your FMC. SWOON CITY!!!! The way that chapter took me out.

Ugh Tyson MF Bishop, you are the book boyfriend blueprint and I love you so much! Dare I say this man is my new favorite Kat Singleton MMC?!?!? Like the way I was giddy the whole time reading this book. There was just something about the tension and the slow burn that made me so dang happy throughout the whole thing.

And the audio?!?! Stop it right now! Long Story Short is DUET NARRATION by Robert Hatchet and Emma Wilder and holy cow did they slay the narration. It was like music to my earholes. I didn't want to stop listening to it. Devoured it!

I've really been enjoying this series and think this takes the second place rank (it will be hard to beat In Good Company)! Such a fun premise with this one where she is a romance author feeling stuck and him being very willing to be her muse.

Josie decides to take a summer trip to her family home in the Hamptons in hopes of fixing her current draft of the romance book she is writing. She doesn't want distractions given she is on a tight deadline. However, her new neighbor is something she didn't expect. Tyson is charming and always seems to show up when Josie is trying to focus. Plus her cat is absolutely obsessed with him. It's quite obvious there is a connection between them, but Josie is needing to focus on her book and Tyson has been so focused on work his whole life he's never had a relationship. When Tyson learns that Josie is struggling with revising her book, he offers to be her muse and help her experience the romantic moments she's only ever written about.

I loved how self aware Tyson was, always checking in with Josie and wanting to make sure they didn't move too fast. It was really sweet to see him be so focused on wanting to get to know Josie and build trust with her before moving to far in the physical relationship between them. Because while Kat does an amazing job with writing spice, this book felt like a nice shake up from her others where it's a bit more of a slow burn. It was very fitting for their relationship. There were check ins and conversations had so that they both knew where the other on stood throughout the book. Plus the fact that there was no third act breakup and they just had a conversation and were there for each other when the conflict happened, so well done.

I thought the concept of this story was really cute and it pulled me in. I read the other books in this series and really enjoyed them. But I was disappointed by this book. Once Josie and Tyson meet, nothing else exists in the story. We don't get to see much of their individual lives. It's always them spending time together and that's all we get to see. It made the book feel slow and like it was dragging. But then the last 15% of the book was on hyper drive. The health problems with Josie's grandfather came up and then resolved almost immediately with no explanation of how we got there. Tyson's father demanding money (in a single phone call, no other interactions with him) was resolved in a few pages. I also think it's odd Tyson never talked about hit family with Josie. Anything that came up to possibly cause friction or tension in the story was extinguished immediately. There was nothing exciting about the book. It was just a very plain love story with nothing else involved. They got together with no issues and stayed together with no issues. I was expecting her ex to pop up again at some point to cause trouble, especially considering how he acted in the beginning of the book, but we never saw him again. The whole book just fell flat with no conflicts or anything for the characters to overcome.

Long Story Short is book 4 in the Pembroke Hills series. This author always delivers on billionaire heroes who are obsessed with the heroines and this book was exactly that too.

In this book we have Josie, a romance author who heads to the Hamptons to stay at her grandfather’s place while she works, and Tyson moves in next door as her new neighbor. Josie was told by her publisher to rewrite her book so she desperately needs the time away to focus. Her cat Mouse sneaks over to the neighboring property and that’s how she first meets Tyson! Tyson has recently purchased a place there to be nearer to his sister Winnie (the heroine from Pretty Rings & Broken Things). He’s immediately smitten with Josie and starts taking care of her… cooking for her, bringing her food and drinks, helping “inspire her” for her book, etc. The book is really just them spending time together and we don’t get a lot else as far as plot. So it did come off a bit easy and not very deep for either of them. I needed more to be really connected so this was cute but not my favorite in the series.

If you’re looking for one more sweet summer romance before we shift to fall, THIS IS IT!! So easy to read and easy to love. There’s something about Kat Singleton’s writing that makes me so happy and this book gave me all those feelings again

It feels so good to be back in the Hamptons.

I genuinely needed a romance like this. The kind of romance where the chemistry between the characters is SO good that reading it just makes you ridiculously happy. Josie was such a lovable FMC and I found her so incredibly relatable. I absolutely loved getting to know her and seeing her story unfold.

And Ty. MY GOD. I have wanted a book for him for so long and finally getting it was everything I wanted. I loved him so much and watching his relationship with Josie develop was just chef’s kiss.

Kat Singleton writes tension and chemistry like no one else. The way her stories unfold is always so addictive because I constantly find myself wanting to read just one more chapter, and then suddenly I’ve finished the book. And the romantic moments??? Always have me kicking my feet, giggling and staring at the page like an idiot.

This was exactly the kind of romance I needed right now. Getting to return to the Hamptons, getting Ty’s story, falling in love with Josie and watching these two together was just SO GOOD.

Kat, you really know how to write a romance that makes me happy.

This book is almost dystopian how good everyone has it. Everything and everyone in it are literally sublime. Basking in money and so many family properties that they can't even remember their locations, Josie and Tyson embark on a mission to find love...khmm, in each other.

Filled with cute secondary characters and enviable problems, Long Story Short is an amazing escape from the reality of caring about more realistic goings-on. But it's an addictive slow-burn, so be prepared to lose all track of time and end up with an even longer TBR list after adding more of Kat Singleton's books.

I love when the MMC falls first and hard and this book delivers! Kat is queen of the tension and sizzling chemistry! Her banter is always perfection and worthy of the feet kicking! 👑 🌶️

This story follows romance author Josie as she goes to the Hamptons to work on her “broken” manuscript and has a strict deadline to finish it. She doesn’t expect her new neighbor to be a dangerously charming distraction and the inspiration she needed for her book and maybe even her real life.

I’ve been waiting for Tyson’s story for agessss and I’m so happy we finally got it! And it’s everything I could want! 😍

Y’all know I’m weak for a man who falls first and falls HARD, and Tyson Bishop? Completely gone for Josie. He was the biggest green flag, and I loved how he just knew what he wanted while still respecting her boundaries and letting things happen at her pace. The cat meet cute, the flirting, the slow burn, the way he took care of her without making it a big thing… I’m OBSESSED. Tyson and Josie were just so ridiculously cute together, and I completely devoured this book.

And the audio! Emma Wilder and Robert Hatchet were SO good together. Emma had the perfect Josie voice, and Robert was basically exactly how I imagined Tyson sounding in my head. Their duet narration brought so much to the chemistry between these two and made an already adorable story even better.

oh, how i loved this! long story short was the perfect amount of cheesy, gooey romance, while also having lots of tension, and i adored tyson and josie so much. i was literally so giddy from the moment i started the book and it was impossible to put down.

i will always be weak in the knees for fictional men who fall first and hard, and tyson was SUCH a dream. needless to say, this is a must-read if you enjoy a cozy romance with low drama and top tier spice.

I'd like to know what drug the author put in this series because I devoured every book ! Josie has to rewrite her book after being rejected by her publisher but luckily she has a hot new neighbor to give her inspiration…

The chemistry between the characters was just insane. Tyson is obsessed with Josie from the moment they meet 🫣HOW THEY FLIRTED WITH EACH OTHER ARGH

Even though it's clearly love at first sight, the slow burn was delicious. I could honestly read a thousand more pages about them. I love how Josie finds her spark to write again thanks to Tyson's support. He was nothing but perfect for her. He literally fell out of a romance novel.

This was such a fun read! I can always count on Kat Singleton to bring female characters who feel relatable, men who check all the boxes, situations that make you giggle, spice that hits, and swoon worthy romance. Long Story Short was all of this and more!

Joise is a romance author who was told to revise her entire book by her publisher on a very tight deadline. She decides to go to her grandfather's home in the Hamptons to try to make progress on her book. She ends up finding inspiration in her handsome neighbor, Tyson. He agrees to help her feel romance (including in the bedroom!) in real life in hopes that it helps her write more believable romance in her book. They were SO great together and Tyson sure delivered as everyone's dream man. (He cooks for her- does it get better than that!?)

Though I loved the romance and the story so much, I was left wanting a bit more at the end. I wanted more of a resolution with her book, the publisher, and her ex.

This was another fun and easy read in the Pembroke Hills Series!

Omg did I enjoy being back in Pembroke Hills, this series is one of my favorites!!

Tyson & Josie were Judd absolutely precious, so sweet, and adorably wholesome together. (But don’t get me wrong they also brought the spice). I loved their meet cute with Josie’s cat continually escaping to Tyson’s house! And I really loved watching them begin a friendship that turned into a relationship. I feel like they were perfectly suited for each other. Tyson was so supportive of Josie, and took every opportunity he could to build her up. And Josie showed up for Tyson when he otherwise felt so alone and isolated. They might be my new favorite neighbors to lovers!!!

Their love just felt tender & precious, and I loved them! I’m also such a sucker for the title making it into the story, and it was executed perfectly in this book!!

⭐️ — DISAPPOINTING.

This book was like chewing up glass and then using isopropyl alcohol as a chaser.

I absolutely ATE UP the rest of this series, so I went into this one with high expectations. Unfortunately, it was a massive letdown.

For characters who are supposed to be successful, functioning adults, they were written with the emotional regulation and rage of teenagers.

And the plot? Was there one? I kept waiting for the story to build toward something—anything—but there was no real climax or payoff. It just… happened. And then it was over.

Also, if I never have to read the word “inspiration” again, it will still be too soon. I would rather slide down a banister made of razor blades than encounter that word one more time.

I genuinely loved the rest of this series, which somehow made this one even more disappointing. I wanted to love it. I tried to love it. But this book put me through emotional warfare, and not in the fun romance-reader kind of way.

I know Kat Singleton can make me feral over a book because I ate up the rest of this series.

This one? I finished out of spite.

Omg this book was EVERYTHING to me 😩🫶🏼 Tyson and Josie story entrapped me with their first meeting and ended up becoming my favorite in the series so far 😭💛 I just found them undeniably adorable, and felt their chemistry jumping off the page at me from their very first meet-cute. I do not say this lightly… but Tyson IS the blueprint of how I would like all my book boyfriends to be… unapologetically down bad and an absolute SIMP from the first second he saw her 🤪

Gah! Her cat (named mouse) acts as the ultimate matchmaker. I love this series and how the friends and family are intertwined so you catch glimpses of past characters living their HEAs.

Ok so Long Story Short, I loved this book! (See what I did there? 😏😏😏😏)

Let me start by saying hello Mr Tyson Bishop! ❤️‍🔥What an absolutely HOT MAN! I love an adorable billionaire MMC who’s afraid of getting too close because he doesn’t want to get his heart broken. 🥺 It was so much fun to read and see him slowly opening up to Josie. 🥹

Josie was also such a fun character to read! She is a romance author struggling with her latest work, who moves to the Hamptons to work on her novel. Thanks to her cute cat, Mouse, breaking and entering into her hot neighbours house she ends up meeting hot guy Tyson. 😝

Josie and Tyson are a hot couple and their chemistry was fantastic to read! The book had a perfect amount of spice for the story

Two things I love in romance books: Billionaires and Age Gap! This story has both 😍 there is a 10 year gap between the FMC and MMC which I personally loved 🥰

This book has a lot of fun times, but also some heart wrenching moments which made me tear up! 🥹

This was SO SWEET😭
This was definitely very much insta love on his end, which usually isn’t my favorite thing but it worked so well in this book! Tyson was PATHETICALLY obsessed with Josie and I ate that shit right up. Give me any man that will get on their hands and kneessssss to please their girl & i’m sat.
No but literally, anything she wants, she gets. The acts of service & all the little things he did for her was so cute!
I loved Josie so much & found myself relating to her in a lot of ways. She’s also a cat mom & cat lover so yanno💁🏻‍♀️🐈

Every single time her dang Pop entered the chat or got brought up, I was SOBBING. This book took such an emotional turn that i was not expecting!
This book felt a little different from the other books in the series, I can’t quite put my finger on why but i loved it!

Such a sweet, wholesome and fulfilling book.

They’re both such kind and loving people. Tyson seems like such a patient, curious, gentle and giving guy. Josie peaks his interest from the day he spots her cat, and is immediately intrigued by her. I think it’s so sweet how he chases her down, and wants to help her out in every way he can. Meanwhile, she’s letting him in after being hurt and in distress at work. The connection they share is so sweet and I loved every second.

Their story is the perfect green flag billionaire story. I love that both of them come from money too, there’s never any worry that one of them is after the other one’s money. Just love and affection.
