The attraction of the Private series is waning a little. Each book is becoming more like the previous, in my humble opion.

This one was very slow for the first half and spent way too much time making sure we knew the colour of every Japanese peace lilly or whatever bonzai plants or rooms were being described. Fortunately the pace picked up a bit in the second half and was enough to encourage reading to the end. The ending was extremely predictable though, felt like not a lot of effort was put into concealing the twist. It was evident before the half way of the book.

All in all I am glad I read it because I have read all the others in the private series, however, if this had been the first book in this series I had read, I doubt I would have read any others. But it still entertained me for a few days, so no complaints.

This was only just ok. I've enjoyed the series, but I find myself becoming increasingly frustrated because there's unfinished business between Jack and his twin brother, Tommy, whom the writers appear to have forgotten.
I've been waiting and waiting for a final confrontation that looks like it won't happen.
This book was just a Snickers bar compared to my more refined reading tastes.

These stories are always action packed, but this one didn’t quite work for me - too many times, the hero did a dumb thing leading to some very well written action sequences, but he is supposed to be an amazing detective, who should not get into such a situation.

A paper thin story line expanded to fill 300+ pages by stitching together apparently unconnected pieces of adventure, attempted murder, murder, kidnapping. Random events with no fruitful outcomes keep happening till the author decides that the book needs to end. At that time the narrative becomes a little coherent and leads the reader to its somewhat predictable end.

Ultimately, that minor criticism barely registers against what is otherwise an excellent and highly enjoyable thriller. For me, this remains Patterson’s strongest series, and this latest instalment only reinforces that view.

Pretty average feel to this one, not sure if this genre is just something I'm not super interested in right now, or if it was actually average, but that's how it felt reading it. I was drawn to the concept, and was really hoping for a great read (especially since I just finished another book not long ago and liked it). I hadn't read any of the Private books, and I could tell there was a lot of backstory things that I had missed. It didn't really affect the plot of this book, but it did change the way I connected with the characters. It was clear, both in expression and explanation, that there was a lot of background that could have been helpful in understanding dynamics.
Felt to me like an unusual amount of times the characters were being chased or running for their lives. Almost like there was no breathing room for me, or them. Not sure if that was good or just pushed the action forward, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

I hadn’t read a James Patterson novel for a couple of years, and Private Tokyo reminded me exactly why he’s one of the masters of the crime thriller genre.

The writing is fast-paced, engaging, and impossible to put down. The crime, suspense, and constant twists kept me hooked from beginning to end, making it one of those books where you always want to read “just one more chapter.”

If you’re a fan of gripping thrillers with plenty of action and intrigue, I highly recommend this book. It has also inspired me to dive back into James Patterson’s catalogue—consider this the start of my James Patterson readathon!

The Private team head to Tokyo after the death of a man said in his last breath get Jack Morgan. And so Sci, Mo-Bot, Justine and Jack arrive in Japan. They unite with the local head of Private Tokyo to investigate why Jack was mentioned. A walk through No a run through Tokyo and its lifestyle is seen through the eyes of the team. The Yakuza is alive and well and the old traditions are so entrenched which drive the story to a final fast finish. Prisons, secret passages, revenge, intrigue and blood oaths are just a few of points through this fast paced novel. Read it

Wow - action all the way with Jack, Justine, Mo-bot and Sci getting justice for their colleague in Tokyo. And I didn't get the baddie until the revelation - totally thrown by the red herring!

Love all this series but particularly this one and the mix of Tokyo old and new.

One of the better in the Private series. As a huge fan of Tokyo the book took me back to the streets with its descriptive narration of the wonderful city, and the storyline developed to invest you in even the newest of characters. Definitely recommend!!

Have read all the private books and generally enjoyed them . Found this one just over the top in all the action.
Jack Morgan was more like some fantasy superhero escaping from endless near death experiences in virtually every chapter.

I enjoyed the book but for me, there were way too many descriptions of buildings, bedding, how the sun reflects off things. It felt like overkill and maybe even padding the book to make it longer. Get that out of the way though and it's another good instalment of Private.

OK, but the best. I think it would have been improved if Justine had stayed in LA. It all felt a bit forced really, and it was pretty clear who was behind the killings quite early on. The Japanese names didn't help, to be honest.
