In addition to his military career: Chris led security operations for a major international aid agency in East Timor during the 1999 emergency. This is the best of Chris's books so far. Well written, tightly plotted and always believable, Avenger is right at the top of the tree in this genre. Alex Morgan really came to life in this yarn about Interpol taking down an international people smuggling ring led by the enigmatic 'night witch.' Great entertainment with a nice moral core.

AVENGER is the third book in the Alex Morgan, INTREPID series of thriller, action style novels. Whilst the earlier books (HUNTER and DEFENDER), were enormously enjoyable entrants in those categories, this third book has more to offer again.
Alex Morgan is an ex-soldier, now black ops spy for Interpol's INTREPID (Intelligence, Recovery, Protection and Infiltration Division). He's been at this for quite a while now, and frankly, he's burning out in one hell of a hurry. Despite assurances that there's a break from active service after his current assignment, he's immediately sent into battle against a shadowy villain. Chinese triads, corrupt cops and the Russian mafia and a woman known as The Night Witch are deeply involved in a very nasty form of sexual slavery. In particular, this woman is clever, very dangerous and utterly ruthless. And Morgan is also paired with new agent Elizabeth Reigns who turns out to be a lot more competent than he gave her credit for.
Now Morgan might be an all-action hero type, but there's something endearingly real about him at the same time. All the way through AVENGER he's a bit knackered. He's sick of the job, sick of the threat, sick about losing a good friend and frazzled. Even when in extreme circumstances, where his physical prowess is called upon he's fighting the enemy as much as he's fighting with himself.
In an interesting twist there's nearly as much emphasis on the Night Witch in this book. Her background, the sex slave business, and her methods are explored, as is the cunning plan she deploys to make identification and capture difficult. All of which requires Morgan to get inside her head, and her organisation to break the case.
Given the emphasis on character here, plot doesn't suffer and it's not all crash / bang / rush. There's some clever aspects to the way that Morgan and Reigns identify this woman, and track her location down. Getting inside her organisation is elegantly done, and quite feasible. Even the idea that her henchmen are more brawn than brains works well.
But it comes back to Morgan really, and there's always been a strong sense of validity about him. He's an all action hero with a human side, and that angle is what's particularly appealing about AVENGER. It's a relief to realise that a hero can get sick of the whole thing, and they, like the rest of us, sometimes just want a good lie down.

he third installment in the Intrepid series (following DEFENDER and HUNTER) pits the black ops specialist Alex Morgan against an international people trafficking ring who peddle unsuspecting young women as sex slaves to the wealthy.
AVENGER is a truer rendition of the crime genre as opposed to the previous installments which predominately focused on the thriller and action elements of international spy capers akin to big budget Hollywood-type blockbusters. That said, the action is still plentiful, it just doesn't take center stage.
The emphasis is clearly placed on the antagonist and her crafty deception as the front woman to a heinous criminal underworld movement. I liked the approach author Chris Allen took with this, flipping the script on its head and indulging in the unexpected to define her back-story and subsequent business methodology. The mantra is consistent; cruelty for cash, catering to any dangerously perverted desire.
Series protagonist Alex Morgan once again finds his 'Intrepid girl' - the theme playing out like that of the Bond books (which is a good thing by the way) while also finding a deeper sense of survival and calm among conflict.
The Intrepid series, and the latest installment AVENGER will appeal equally to readers of Ian Fleming's Bond books and Matthew Reilly's Scarecrow series.

I really loved this book. I read it in two sittings as I just couldn’t put it down.
Chris’ style of writing has evolved as the series grows, and this one would have to be my favourite.
I really like how we became so involved in the lives of not only the main players, but the bad guys as well. We got to know and understand more of what they were doing and really see the seamier side of life. Was quite upset at the deaths of certain people, but understand the story would not have been what it was without it.
This is one action novel that I would recommend to people who like intrigue, but not so much action, a great way to ease them in to the genre.
I was keen to see if Arena made an appearance, and note with interest that Beth is in the next one, so wonder if there will be a conflict for our hero?
I also wonder if we will meet Dame Violet again, and (won't name so as not to spoil) the bad guys who didn’t get their just desserts … keeping the threads dangling for future stories Mr Allen? Fleming would approve!

Another terrific book, enjoyable, and fun to sink into! Fast, furious read, though the death of Sutherland was just so wrong! Dang you, Chris Allen, not the Texan!!! Looking forward to seeing where the story is going in the next book.

“Avenger” was published in 2015 and was written by Chris Allen. This is Mr. Allen’s fourth book and his third in the “Alex Morgan Interpol Spy” series.
I obtained a galley of this novel for review through https://www.netgalley.com. I would categorize this novel as ‘R’ as there are instances of Violence, Mature Situations and Mature Language. This Thriller novel is set mostly in contemporary Hong Kong and Belize. The primary character is Alex Morgan, former British paratrooper and now with a clandestine branch of Interpol.
I have not read the first two novels in the series, but this novel stands well on its own. Morgan is just finishing up an operation in Africa, when he is rerouted to Hong Kong to help fellow Interpol agents. The clandestine operation gets busted and Morgan is thrust into a battle to survive. Morgan continues the investigation of these human traffickers after they are tracked to Belize. Morgan travels to Belize and before long is in the thick of things once again.
This is a very ‘James Bond’ like Thriller novel. I enjoyed the 6 hours I spent with the novel, but it did not keep me on the edge of my seat. The plot was OK and the characters were about what you expect from this type of story. I give this novel a 3.5 (rounded up to 4) out of 5.

I really like Alex Morgan - his exploits keep me company when the Middle of the night closes in, and the action within these stories grips me - carrying me to places where I have never been before.
I like that Alex is not able to save everyone (not that I find this a "good" thing necessarily, but that this makes the stories more REAL for me. Because we don't always win the battle - but we might win the war.
I genuinely like that Alex is more real to me with his inability to hold onto his romantic relationships - in his line of work it would be near impossible to maintain a healthy ongoing relationship - I look forward to his character development if further books are released! (I am assuming so, as there was a lose end or two which wasn't resolved in this book,and I'd like to see how this pans out). I would recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a great, but human, action character!

Another cracking read. Chris Allen is quick becoming one of my go to Australian Authors in this genre. This book sees Alex Morgan going toe to toe with the grubs of the global human trafficking trade. Called in to assist a colleague Alex is thrust into the middle of a tangle of underworld human trafficking king pins and needs to find his way out. A gripping read that has you wondering what is going to happen to Alex Morgan at the next turn of the page.

I thought this book was very fast moving and would strongly reccomend it to any one who likes nonstop action. I really liked the dangerous situations that the characters found themselves in.

After reading the first and second novels in this series, I have read the third novel and have enjoyed it more than the previous novels. I will soon read the next one. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Excellent Read
Action packed with a lot of thoughtful thinking ongoing. Alex is a survivor but has a lot luggage he takes with him. Can’t wait for the sequel or the 4th book in the series. Where will his next venture take us?

The Intrepid Series just keeps getting better!
A plot line that involves the ugly but real problem that has faced humanity for centuries.
Once again Chris Allen has led us through this book with style. The action is incredible and has left me wanting more. Book 4 is in my near future.
