I really like the pace of this book and how it is actually about the grunts rather that the overall war.

It was alright, doesn’t go into the history too much, focuses mainly on what a “average” year as a Marine serving in Vietnam was like.

This is a straight tick tock of a line Sergeant's Tour in Vietnam, starting right after Tet 1968. The Author served with the 101st Airborne. We follow action in CuChi, Various places during Tet and then the "8 Klick Ville" area between Highway 1 and the ocean. It is all search and destroy and ambush warfare. one can get a very good emotional connection to the war, but not a strategic one, as the author makes little effort to place his experiences into the wider tactical war. The writing is also relatively weak and self important, detracting from the book, generally, although the reality is certainly there. Only real Vietnam enthusiasts will appreciate this book, but they will find the minutiae enlightening. A good tertiary source as long as you've read Karnow or Halberstam already

Brought back a lot of memories and feelings of sorrow for those who suffered and died when I got to survive and come home.

Well done Charles.
