Sandrine fulfils a long-cherished a motorbike trip to the fjord country in Norway. In Grimsvik, a picturesque village at the mouth of a remote fjord, she and Léon have rented a former fisherman's hut to spend a few quiet days. But on their first night, a man drowns in the harbour basin in front of their hut. Sandrine tried to save him, but she discovered the victim too late. What initially looks like an unfortunate accident soon turns out to be a planned murder. Arne Berg, the only policeman in Grimsvik, and Chief Inspector Hanna Solheim from Bergen take over the investigation. The suspects – all French nationals with secrets – force Sandrine into an unwanted role as mediator between the Norwegian and French police.
I like the atmosphere of France in the Sandrine Perrot books so this is quite a departure from the norm but I enjoyed the book. The descriptions of the landscape added to the mystery of the murder investigation and it was a good chase. I feel sorry for Leon but he got to go fishing in the end! Highly recommended
Missed book 8 but have read the rest.Great story with lots of twists and turns. One of the best in The Sandrine Perrot Series. Have already ordered the next one in the series. Have holidayed many times in Brittany so the stories really come to life.Off to Norway next year on holiday hopefully it won't be like Grimsvik.
Discovering Christophe Villain's Sandrine Perrot mystery series was a stroke of luck and I have enjoyed all 9 Brittany based stories for the great characters and locations. Book 9 takes Sandrine and Leon on a Norwegian vacation with events she cannot ignore.
