2 I loved Shawn Stars

Spoilers below and some ranting

Let me just start out saying that this book is nothing and I do mean nothing like I thought it would be. The plot sounded so good. I knew going into this book that the heroine was a hooker and the hero was autistic. I was prepared for the heroine to have been with many men and for her past to maybe follow her and cause problems in her and Shawn's relationship. I was okay with that. I wanted so much to like this book. I really did. The writing style is good. But a lot of things didn't work for me. It was just an okay read , but this story just made me sad almost the whole book. Like depressed sad. Maybe it just hits to close to home for me, having a autistic niece and all, but this book just made me sad to think that someone could treat my niece the way everyone treated Shawn the hero. I feel like he was treated badly, hurt and kinda taken advantage of the whole book. Let me just tell you all the things that I liked about this book then I will say why it just didn't work for me. I loved Shawn. I thought he was realistic and sweet. I like the fact that this book brings to light the human trafficking problem and 10% of book sales went to helping stop human trafficking. That is all I liked about this book. Now on to all the things that didn't work for me.

 photo 2e87b86f8ec7198bcaba66f7a248832b_zps2gfmovbe.jpg

First off I feel there isn't enough character and relationship development. I felt so bad for the way everyone treated Shawn. His parents abandoned him. Everyone at his work ignores, and or mocks him. At one point a worker is passing out invites to a work party, and gives everyone, but him one. When he asked for one she says the boss Jack doesn't want him there. He tells her that if she gives him a invite he won't eat or drink anything. Feeling sorry for him she sneaks and gives him one while telling him loudly so the whole office can hear that he can't come. He doesn't get the hint because he is autistic so she whispers to him to come but hide from Jack. Really???? Poor Shawn. Then he meets Violet at the party and asks her out on a date. She thinks he is a John shows up realizes that he didn't know she was a prostitute and thought it was a real date. So she texts her pimp and he tells her to get to her next trick. Shawn thinks she is a actress and she lets him believe that telling him that she has an audition. She lets him walk her to her next trick goes has sex with someone else and then lets him walk her to her next trick over and over. That is their relationship. Him walking her to her next trick and waiting while she has sex with her johns. And yes I know her pimp makes her go, but it bugged the shit outta me. It was like she was taking advantage of the fact that he was autistic. He is just sitting down waiting like a chump thinking she is the one for him and she is suckin and fuckin some other guy. At one point she comes out of a johns place swishing some mouth wash and spits. Really???? CTFO! Maybe if she told him the truth that she had a pimp and she couldn't get free, but that she wanted to be with him, and he still wanted to be with her I could have handled it better, or if she tried to leave, or maybe more time together loving special moments to develop the relationship it would have helped. I don't know. All I know is it drove me crazy and made me feel like she was using him. Then he asked her to marry him, she says yes and still hasn't told him she's a prostitute. She marries him then they go to meet up with his grandma and brother to tell them the good news that they are married and it's his grandma and brother that has to tell him she is a prostitute and instead of talking about it she runs. When he gets to her apt she is getting into a car with another man Really? a few days later he comes to her home again to talk to her to tell her he misses her and she says the meanest shit to him.

"Do you miss me?" "I don't miss any of my clients," she declared from the other side of the door. "You saw me as a client?" "A non-paying client. The worst kind." Shawn's face darkened. All he could do was let out a scream. "Aaaaaahhh!" Violet swung her door open. "You wanna get me in trouble?" "I thought you cared about me. I thought we had a future" "That's all part of what I do. Maybe you'd have seen that if you weren't so autistic."

WTF! Then he tries to buy her from her pimp. When he comes back and tells her he could only come up with 7,000 dollars of the 15,000 the pimp wants for her freedom, she has been beaten by her pimp and tells him that her pimp will never let her go. So now they finally decide to run from him and hide her. With a plan to fake break up in front of the pimp so he won't look for her at Shawn's place. Which ends with Shawn getting the shit beat outta him by her pimp. Poor Shawn. Then they meet up go to the hospital and then to Shawn's place. Where his grandma tries to pay Violet to leave her grandson with 20,000 and Violet is like no my husband is priceless, and that's it now grandma is totally cool with their relationship. Just like that. From hating her to it's cool I like you now with one sentence. Sorry I don't buy it.

 photo 2652441-6538250863-tumbl_zpswrgrelxs.gif

All this book did was make me sad and feel sorry for Shawn. My God he got the short end of the stick. Then the fact that I didn't like the book makes me feel like a jerk because Violet is a prostitute not by choice and is being forced by her pimp. All I can think about is that she is sleeping with other men while with Shawn so now I feel like a insensitive prick on top of the sadness. So yea not the book for me .

This is such a sweet book. Shawn is autistic and doesn't know how to socialize normally. On his dates, he has no filter. If the girl's sister is prettier, he will let her know. He is also a walking Wikipedia. And if he isn't talking about random facts, he'll have random questions in his pocket to keep the conversation going.

Shawn: "You look different from your profile picture."
Date: "That's actually my sister. I get a lot more interest when I use her pic."
Shawn: "Well, she is a lot prettier than you."

My favorite thing about Shawn is that he doesn't lie. He's so honest and true. Although his parents couldn't handle his challenges, he still graduated from Columbia and found a good job. Now, all he needs to do is find a good wife.

Shawn meets Violet at a party and asks if they could meet later. Violet tells him that she'll give him a very good time. Of course Shawn thought he just scored a date.

Violet later realizes that Shawn is different, but she appreciates how Shawn sees her as an actual human being. The time they spend together is very innocent and sweet. But how was she going to leave her pimp?

"Violet couldn't remember the last time she had a conversation that wasn't laced with innuendos meant to lure the man in as a customer. There was something slow about Shawn but it was refreshing."

Shawn is also a strong Christian. He has been praying (and waiting) for a woman to share a life with. Has God answered his cries?

"I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry." - Psalm 40:1

I didn't need a tissue for this story, but it definitely warmed my heart. I also had some pretty good laughs here and there.

What a fantastic story!

The writing style has the perfect pace, with the relationship between the two main characters building in a realistic measure.

I was concerned when I first saw this book that the author would use autism as a plot device to add angst and conflict in the applicable chapters, but what Allen Wolf has done is create a character in Shawn who has very realistic autism but is not defined by it, he is instead defined by his benevolence and kind-hearted nature. Shawn's character has been a learning curve for me also, he gives us an inner view of autism that I had never read before.
Our heroine of the story, Violet, is a prostitute, and certainly not by choice. I realised very quickly that Violet is actually extremely strong and incredibly brave. She has endured more than most people can stand thinking about. At first, she doesn't correct Shawn's assumptions about to what she has to do, and I would love to tell you more, but I won't spoil it for you!

The Christian aspect of the story is thoughtful and just the right amount of content.

I highly recommend this book.

In this novel adapted from an award-winning screenplay, a romantic twenty-something fails to spot that his new girlfriend is a prostitute because he is autistic. The situation has ample comedic potential, but it isn’t just played for laughs. This warm, witty story does not shy away from serious themes like exploitation, redemption, and true love. It’s easy to see this being adapted into an enjoyable movie for fans of The Rosie Project.

I found this book on Goodreads and liked the synopsis. Eventually, the book was offered in a giveaway and I was fortunately chosen as a winner. Yay, me! The book-mail arrived quickly and I opened it up immediately, smiling like a happy kid when I noticed the book had been signed by Wolf, with a lovely inscription. Then I read the first couple of paragraphs and too quickly set it aside. Sometimes moods alter my reading experience because when I picked this same book up a week later I. Couldn't. Put. It. Down. Shawn, the story's autistic protagonist, stole my heart. His honest, unfiltered opinions made me laugh out loud. His search for Mrs. Right became my search. While Shawn's choice is surprising, it completely works here. A charming book.

Wolf has written a story with a strong message. Faith goes a long way. There's hope for everyone. And, like Wolf's inscription in the first few pages of my book,

"Love conquers all."

I absolutely loved this story. The two main characters are polar opposites but come together so well and believably in this. Shawn’s autism was necessary to the story but did not define his character, and the way that it is described in the story helped me to understand more about the condition and how it affects individuals. Indeed the whole story tackles very serious issues in autism and human trafficking, but does it in such a way as to not appear ‘preachy’ or contrived. In all this was a very heart-warming tale of genuine love, and as has been mentioned by others would make a great movie.

Pretty Woman (Violet) meets an autistic adult (Shawn) who wants to have a girlfriend and get married. I saw the preview for the movie based on the book (The Sound of Violet) and wanted to read it. Quick, fun read.

Reviewed on behalf of Readers' Favorite

Hooked by Allen Wolf is a contemporary novel about an autistic man struggling with finding love and happiness. Shawn desperately wants to find someone to spend the rest of his life with, but due to his autism, finds it difficult to even get past the first date. His family is encouraging and protective of Shawn’s heart after he lost his first girlfriend in college. Then, at a party for his work, a dating agency, Shawn meets Violet. He mistakes her for an “ordinary” girl and asks her out on a date. Unbeknownst to him, Violet is actually a prostitute with a difficult past. Still, she takes a sort of pity on Shawn and agrees to meet with him, their relationship growing. Shawn and Violet embark on a new kind of relationship, but can he accept her past and save her from a dangerous lifestyle?

Mr. Wolf’s novel is beautifully written. Rarely will I find myself captivated by a book that I cannot put it down for nearly two hours. I read this book from start to finish in one sitting. Shawn was so sweet and Mr. Wolf really strove to write him as believable as possible. My heart went out to his gentle nature and simple desire to be loved. After all, isn’t that what we all want in life? Violet was a very sympathetic character and I found myself hoping more than anything for a happy ending for the pair. I was also very pleased to see this author donates a portion of the proceeds from his sales to a human trafficking charity. I love that the author raised awareness of local trafficking as it doesn’t just happen to women from other countries. All I can say is, pick up this book and get lost in the beauty of their relationship. Hooked is simply remarkable and was a complete pleasure to review.

4 stars A sweet story of an unlikely pairing.

What? An autistic man and a seasoned prostitute coming together? You almost snort at the idea of that happening in any meaningful way. Yet the author manages to start with the implausible and weave a story that evolves into something natural, organic, and somehow right. You go from thinking, "How would that EVER work?" to eventually seeing how it would be good for both of them.

A few things I loved about Shawn's character and his autism is how he perceives his world. He has no mental filters so takes people at face value and lives his physical senses in a hyper state of awareness. If I couldn't relate to him directly, I was totally drawn to him. In the "poverty" of autism where social skills are decidedly lacking, there is a richness and depth to sensory perception that goes beyond the rest of us. Colors aren't just colors, sound isn't just sound, touch isn't just touch. He experiences them with more intensity than most of us are able to perceive.

The only thing that keeps this story from being 5 star is the turn in the character of Shawn's grandmother, Ruth. That felt pushed. Another chapter in her character arc would have made a world of difference. Still, this is a book I'll pick up again on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

I have to admit, this story was highly entertaining and engaging. It’s reasonably fast-paced, which makes it a very easy read, even if it's a bit obvious that the novel was adapted from a screenplay.

The concept allows the plot to be both funny and quirky, while also exploring deeper and more serious topics. And even if some parts are predictable, I can promise it will still melt your heart.

The writing style is short and sweet. It took me a moment to get used to “hearing” everyone’s thoughts at once, which is one of the reasons it feels more like a script than a traditional novel. That said, the dialogue is strong and really carries the story. I connected with the characters mostly through their lines, many of which would make great quotes.

And as a lovely final note, 10% of proceeds from this heartwarming story go to organizations fighting human trafficking.

Not the typical Boy meets the Girl story.

Shawn and Olivia (or Violet) find each other at a party, Shawn has Autism and he doesn't understand the subtle nuances of the start of what he thinks is a loving relationship. What happens when he discovers the truth about what she really is?

It was a quick read but, it was definitely an eye opener about several different things shown in this book; specially Autism and Prostitution. I liked it. I think you'll like it too if you read it with an open mind.

This read about an unlikely pair was a genuine delight to read. The development between main characters Shawn and Violet wasn't just realistic, it was also uniquely interesting, and loaded with humor. Allen Wolf has a serious talent for writing about people on the autism-spectrum and creating heartfelt story lines. This is one of those rare books that I will read time and time again, and recommend to all of my friends. I definitely look forward to reading more by Wolf in the future!

Because of Shawn's autism, he misses social cues most people would pick up on. He's highly functioning and has a job creating algorithms at a dating service. Living at home with his mother, he realizes she won't always be there for him and he dreams of finding the right girl with whom he might someday settle down. He's gone on countless dates, putting his company's service to the test. Only his tendencies to blurt out awkward comments doesn't bode well for any chances beyond the first date. One night he attends a work party and is thrilled when a beautiful young girl invites him to leave with her. Shawn is instantly smitten, only what he fails to understand is that the lovely Violet is actually a prostitute.

Hooked, by Allen Wolf, is a wonderfully comedic and light-hearted read. This book could easily be made into a movie, which is no surprise given that the author is also a film-maker. Like a cross between Being There (the 1979 film with Peter Sellers) and Pretty Woman (the 1990 film with Julia Roberts), Hooked is just plain fun. This feel-good read steers clear of any inappropriate sex scenes, and in fact has an entirely unexpected and refreshing hint of faith thrown into the mix. Replete with comedy, action, drama and suspense, Hooked earns our recommendation and has earned the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

Shawn was walking beside Cheryl but he found it hard to look in her eyes or in anyone’s eyes for that matter . When he did he felt like he was walking into the sun. when he did it as he knew people grew uneasy around him when he kept looking away. Shawn often spoke without thinking or editing what he said. Shawn works at an online dating service. Then Shawn was on a date with Lindsay and it seemed to be going good. Lindsay told Shawn he was like a walking Wikipedia. Lindsay took Shawn’s hand and shook it off and explained he had autism. That touching can sometimes be really intense for Shawn Then Lindsay cuts the date short and says she has to go somewhere and would be sure to call Shawn. When Shawn tells his dates he has Autism they usually don’t last very long after he tells his dates that.Even after explaining he was high functioning it just didn’t help. Colin was Shawn’s brother and he told Shawn to keep the Autism a secret as long as he could or at least until the second date. But then his dates seemed confused on how reacted to something like bright sunlight or touching him. Shawn’s parents were deeply troubled by Shawn's diagnosis of Autism. Shawn’s grandparents took him to Manhattan for a treatment program . Colin also moved to their grandparents to be with Shawn. At first their parents came every weekend to see the boys then they skipped a weekend and then whole months. Shawn and Colin’s grandparents were not happy about how their parents were deserting Shawn and Colin .Shawn’s grandfather had died the year before and Shawn was worried his grandmother Ruby would be leaving him. Then ruby slumps over in the chair and Shawn realized something was wrong . Shawn rode in the ambulance with his grandmother and was at her bedside praying silently when the doctor came in. and told Shawn and Colin that their grandmother had passed out from low blood sugar and she has diabetes. Ruby needs to take better care of herself. Shawn goes to a party and meets Violet but Shawn doesn’t know Violet is a hooker. The party’s theme is Pimps and Hos only Violet was a real hooker. Shawn asks Violet on a date and she says yes. Shawn believes Violet is an actress and Violet lets him believe that and tells him she has an audition. Then Shawn walks her to her next trick and waits for her outside while she has sex with her John. Then Shawn would walk her to her next trick and once again wait for her. Shawn asks Violet to marry him and she says yes and she still hasn’t told him she is a hooker but still marries Shawn. Then Shawn and Violet go to tell ruby and Colin they are married. His grandmother and brother had to tell Shawn violet is a hooker and Violet runs away. Then Shawn goes to see violet and she is getting in a car with a man. A couple days later goes to Violet’s apartment to tell her he misses her and she is real mean to him. Shawn wants to be married and loved. Shawn tries to buy Violet from her pimp and is beaten so bad he ends up in the hospital. Then Ruby tries to but Violet off and she says no that Shawn was her husband and she was staying married to him. Violet wasn’t a hooker by choice but is being trafficked. Shawn makes Violet feel worthy and have real value . Shawn is determined to free Violet and her friends from the pimp. Shawn’s unconditional love changes Violet.
I loved this story. It had a great plot. It showed how people with autism can be treated but it also shows how much love they can give and do whatever it takes to hang on to that love. Not a negative way other then how Shawn was treated especially after telling a date and then all the girl can do is want to get away so there was a lot of cruelty shown in this story all because of Shawn’s autism. But i liked Shawn a lot. I liked violet too she didn’t really have a choice in what she was doing and in the end she knew what she wanted no matter what. I liked that . this story had humor in it and i did chuckle at times. But it also broke my heart on how Shawn was treated. It was so realistic I felt i was there and didn’t want to stop reading and I wanted to see Shawn happy in the end. At first it seemed like Violet was using Shawn and i didn’t like that at all. I also hated how his parents just gave up on him it wasn’t Shawn’s fault he had autism but he did have his grandparents who got in a program to function as well as he could and Colin stayed at his brother's side. All and all a very good read and I really enjoyed this story. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

I was gifted an ARC by Author Groupies in exchange for an honest review.

Well I was already Hooked with the dedication #pardon the pun#

Shawn and his brother Colin live with their grandparents, to be honest they actually reared them , their parents shouldn't have had children. Grandpa has since passed on so it's just Gran and the boys now.....

You see Shawn is different, he's autistic. He may lack social skills but so do many other "normal" people but he has a beautiful and honest soul. He has no filter but I enjoyed his honesty , he called it as it is and how he sees it . Having said that I also feared for Shawn at times in the sense that his "innocence" could and would make him an easy target . One thing is for sure Shawn is a breath of fresh air .

So Shawn working at a dating agency that uses algorithms to match people up an some do get their HEA . Shawn just whatsoever everyone else wants.....to find love ,get married , a beautiful wedding and have the white picket fence . He had a chance of happiness with Amanda but sadly he lost her an it seems he'll always hold on to her that I till he meets Violet.......

Now Violet is colourful character . She an her friends Aleesha and Natasha are let's call them ladies of th night , nit by choice but because they're being trafficked and that's a frightening reality that so many face today .

At first Shawn doesn't know what Violet does for an income by when he does find out he does everything in his power to free he and her friends. At first I wanted get cross with Violet for not being honest with him but then I put myself in her shoes . Shawn makes her feel valued like she means something,he makes her feel worthy.

I really enjoyed Shawn , Violet and their friends and family. They're real peek with real issues ,emotions and lodge experiences.

Thank you to Allen Wolf for participating in making a difference. 10% of proceeds of sales if "Hooked" goes to organizations fighting human trafficking.

Also the way portrays Shawn and his autism is done with such kindness , respect and sensitivity . For that dear Sir I lift my hat off to you .

All Shawn wants to do is get married. He works IT at an exclusive online dating site, but can never get past date one. He wonders if his high functioning autism may be to blame, but it’s not like he can change. When he meets Violet at a Pimps and Ho’s party he is instantly smitten, but does not understand that she is an actual prostitute. For Violet, meeting Shawn is like waking up from a long dark sleep. He treats her like an actual person and not an object. The only thing certain for Shawn and Violet is that nothing in their lives will be certain from now on.

I enjoyed this story but it is very obvious that it is set up for a movie. From the meet cute to the missed signs to the “dramatic” conclusion it all flows but has no true substance. Every issue is buttoned up very neatly and even the drama was a neat four pages and done. The characters had very little back story and motivations were made very clear very fast. Occasionally a minor character would have a thought that you would “hear” through one or two sentences and it threw off the story a tiny bit as you would have to re-read to see whose voice it was. It was also a very fast read, I was done in about an hour and a half. None of these things makes the book bad, it just could have been deep and powerful but was instead a rom-com. At the heart of Hooked is a powerful message on human trafficking and I truly like that the author is giving a portion of the proceeds to a charity fighting trafficking. If you are looking for a dramatic tale this is not it, but for a fluff read it was very good.

This got me hooked! Such an interesting read!

Allen Wolf brings us a refreshing tale with two very peculiar characters. And we all know I'm all about characters... And these were just excellent! It was so amazing to see Shawn and Violet's relationship develop as well as their interactions with the different worlds they lived in and eventually mashed together.

I had never read a book about an autist before and I found it to be immensely interesting. By reading Hooked I not only learned a bit more about what this people face daily but also about other situations I wasn't as aware of as I might have thought: prostitution. I think Allen Wolf managed to address these subjects in a very clear and realistic way. I do, although, also believe both Shawn's and Violet's particular situtations could've been explored even further in order to turn Hooked into a not so light read.

The storyline itself was good, lacking only the character exploration I just referred and which would, therefore, darken the plot a bit too. But overall it was still gripping in the way that the reader really cares about the characters and wants to find out if they get their "happily ever after" (either together or not).

A little note, Hooked has a lot of Catholic Church's references. I know most people don't mind reading about a different religion from their own (or their non-existing religion, if they are atheists like in my case) but if for some reason this might bug you I just thought I should tell you guys since it's not specified in the book's description.

Now to wrap this review up I proudly announce that I recommend Allen Wolf's Hooked for all of you looking for a fun and different story with very lovable characters and which addresses very relevant subjects.

Hooked/Allen Wolf The premise of this book did not disappoint. Shawn, a high functioning autistic, has had his heart set on finding the perfect girl and having a dream wedding for years, but struggles to make it through even one date. He begins unknowingly dating a prostitute, who is touched by the way he treats her after dozens of harsh clients.

Perhaps it was a little apparent that this had been a screenplay adapted into a novel, but I enjoyed the feel that this created. We didn't get a lot of insight into the characters' thoughts and motivations which was effective especially for Violet. However, we didn't get much backstory on characters, which could have added to the story. Amanda's role especially was confusing and I wasn't quite sure how things had ended for her.

The subtle humour thrown in, both through jokes in the vein of Shawn's grandfather and in Shawn's mannerisms and in the way he misses many social cues, was very effective in not only making me laugh but also in giving me a glimpse into how Shawn viewed society.

I was pleasantly surprised by how though this was relatively light-hearted the whole way through it also touched on deeper issues, specifically sexual trafficking and treatment of people on the autistic spectrum.

This is definitely a romcom of a book, and while it wasn't particularly sophisticated, it was worth reading.

I received this book through netgalley.

This was a charming book. The main protagonist, Shawn, is a 24 year old IT programmer, who's got high functioning Autism. He dreams of getting married and wants somebody to look after him when his grandma passes away.
He tries online dating, but his social awkwardness, unfiltered observations don't do well with the ladies.

I won't describe the book any further, as you can read the blurb.

What I will say is that it's a very easy read, but very enjoyable. Shawn is an endearing character, his innocence, inexperience and awkwardness are amusing and heart warming.

This is a book about redemption and love. And a great reminder that behind every prostitute, there is a lost person, who's abused, sold, demeaned and who's trapped.

I commend the author for donating part of the proceeds to charities that fight against human trafficking. So go buy the book!

Recommended: to those who enjoy a feel good story, with no smut, and to those who enjoyed the Rosie Project and the Rosie Effect.

I am going to start rating the covers, as there are way too many ugly covers around.
Cover: 5 stars.

Hooked is a refreshing novel, lighthearted with the touch of humor and sweet with its romantic center plot. Reading it is my attempt at diverting from my usual genre which is mystery and suspense, and it turned out to be more than just a dversion.

Main character Shawn is a high-functioning autistic who is desperate to find a partner in life. His easy demeanor, with his naive but achingly sweet view on life and people, is very refreshing; a break from all the psychopaths, sadistic lovers and violent characters in most novels today. Violet, a beautiful prostitute, is desperate to escape the life she has. She goes by each day using pills to distract her. From the outside she looks seductive and headstrong, but inside she is dying.

The plot moved so fast I only knew I was halfway when I paused to look at the page. Each chapter passes by quickly, each dialogue is fun to read, each character evokes a different emotion and even though it was a very short novel (for me, at least) it is very meaningful and profound, inspirational even, and most of all, it was highly enjoyable. I had fun reading it.

Take a break, and read Hooked by Allen Wolf.

Thank you NetGalley and Morning Star Publishing for letting me read this book!

Though Shawn has gone on countless dates, he finds the whole process difficult. Diagnosed with Autism at the age of two, Shawn lives life looking through a lens only a few of us can imagine. He is high functioning so often his particular habits and actions are not readily apparent, unless he mentions it to someone. Despite his brother’s advice, Shawn tends to reveal his Autism soon after meeting a potential love interest, for honesty’s sake and to hopefully make things a bit easier. It doesn’t. More times than not, those dates flee quickly – leaving him alone yet again, until he meets Violet.
In “Hooked” author Allen Wolf brings Shawn and Violet to life with vivid detail and an insight that seems deeply personal. They meet by chance at a party. Shawn received a sympathetic invitation from a co-worker while Violet was peddling wares Shawn couldn’t recognize. He sees something she is not while she sees everything he is – yet in the end they see something in each other that points more to love and bravery than chance.
Beautiful, lyrical and at times hysterical – a great, modern romance with themes seldom seen in the genre.

In just 238 short pages, Allen Wolf creates two characters in Hooked who are both struggling with two very different situations that offer them more difficulty than consolation: Shawn is a 24-year-old dating website coder with autism, desperate to find a woman to love and be loved by for the rest of his life. Violet is a vivid young woman harangued into human trafficking a few years before. When these two very different characters meet, they begin to learn that they are actually more similar than they are different: with the same goal in mind, Shawn and Violet are learning how to love, an impossible task that becomes significantly easier once they find each other.

Still, their relationship proves difficult when Violet has to navigate Shawn's complicated mind and Shawn has to comprehend Violet's debilitating past. In Hooked, Allen Wolf gently teaches readers about autism and human trafficking in a delicate manner, treating his characters with the respect they deserve despite their pasts and/or futures. Hooked is a charming story that will make you believe in love in a unique, sometimes devastating, but sometimes hopeful way.

Hooked was to me completely different than anything I've read. The interestingly complicated love story of an autistic boy trying to find a bride, for all the wrong reasons. He wants someone to take care of him, not someone to share his life with in a romantic way. He is even obsessed with weddings and keeps samples with him at all times. Violet comes along and changes Shawn's ways. Although Shawn believes he is accompanying her to "auditions" because Violet mentioned she was an actress, Shawn fails to see beyond what is (or isn't) obvious to see that Violet is in fact, a prostitute. An inspiring and eye opening tale about friendship and love while also educating on more serious subjects like autism and human trafficking. Really well written and makes the reader keep turning the page. At the end there is a mention on how they are trying to bring this book to life via a movie, and I believe strongly that it would be a fantastic film that is entertaining and heartbreaking and perfect in all ways.

This was such a heartfelt story. Shawn's autism makes for a character that is genuine, innocent, sincere, and absolutely charming in a quirky well-intentioned way. His bluntness of emotion and thoughts make him endearing, and when paired with the cynical prostitute Violet, make for some heartwarming scenes. Violet's never experienced the genuine kindness that Shawn shows her, so seeing her defenses lower and her love of life be reignited was wonderful. Each scene they are in together sparkles with great dialogue and romantic moments that melt the heart. This is a truly unique romance, and hands down one of my favorites now!

This book totally caught me by surprise....in a great way! Shawn is a young man with high-functioning autism who is looking for the love of his life. While most women run at the first realization of his personality quirks. When he meets Violet at a party, he is instantly smitten by her and starts to court her. Little does he know that she is a prostitute. Violet is intrigued by Shawn's respectful attitude towards her as she hasn't experience that kind of care in a long time. His unconditional love for her helps to save her from the life she has been trapped into living. This was a great book and I highly recommend it!

Hooked has a fun plot, but unfortunately it is a bit shallow for me to consider a novel. Now don't get me wrong it is a good story, only the characters are under developed, the story zips through as if it's a movie instead of a novel.
10% of book sales go to help human trafficking victims which is an amazing cause, but the book it self is more of an essay in my opinion rather then a novel. I would have loved to know more about the characters, more depth on their pasts and dreams of future, more depth on their interactions with one another throughout the story.
I believe it to be interesting but not complete.
