Xavier doesn't take any chances when it comes to training...

With his Sapient Spirit Weapon, Bone at his side and the Dead Wanderer, Roln attached to his brain like a ghost, a spirit, or maybe a mental construct, the three of 'em became quite adept at training... a team that no one knows about, especially not the system! But Roln his companion and mentor could turn adversarial simply by not speaking! And Xavier would never give up on life... he would go down swinging, if it came to it!
However I still take umbrage to the words Learnt and Leant but that's a Brit/Aussie thing 😆. Anyway I loved every minute of this action-heavy book...

Things finally start coming together. Not that the previous 7 books weren't fun, but now it feels like serious progress is being made.

He digs deeply into the System and it's mechanics, and at first it was great but I got bored and I started skimming during the last 20% when it got too heavy.

Finally, romance! Done poorly. It wasn't romantic at all, just checking off a box for the sake of completion or something. And of course it's FTB (fade to black).

Still, great progress and fun and I imagine the next book is where shit will truly hit the fan politically.

Ultimately, it was a fine book. As others have noted, way too internally focused. The dialogue between characters remains stilted and unnatural, as it has for all books in this series; it’s an even bigger problem when between Adranial and Xavier. My biggest gripe is that the book spends so long building up to the fight with the world destroyer. There’s one other sub-plot with the void beasts, but otherwise there’s no STORY. The book is missing sub-plots within the larger aim of fighting the world destroyer, things with rising action and a climax and the creation of further problems. This just spends hundreds of pages working up to one big problem, which is why the book feels so slow paced

Sometimes things are stated with no reasoning behind them (like why a spell pattern would work if used as normal but not if etched straight into the mind .. despite in the past never being told there was a difference in how it’s used).

When Xavier started a time unfolding in the void, he notes it’s odd he’s still in the same body. But there’s always ONE Xavier that stays in the same body, so this shouldn’t have been an issue that was noticed immediately. He should’ve just assumed he had a Xavier in his head watching him, not that anything special had happened

Roln’s opinion on helping Xavier changed too fast and with too little reason to be realistic, just felt like a plot device.

Not sure I can put my finger on why but this book was a very slow read. Could not get engaged in plot. I have read entire series up to now and find it’s just gotten stale; with author stretching his analysis with make believe sudden new magic insights

Suddenly runes are bases of magic and nobody else has ever figured this out. When in doubt create a temporal bubble and spend years studying. No fundamental credible magic basis. Multi universe becomes overwhelming, leading to the room of monkeys somewhere writing Shakespeare. Too many options, creating a zillion losers for the one “hero”.

Sorry just can’t stay with this series anymore.

It was all right

Very long-winded and repetitive at times. This book was difficult to get through for the majority of it. It is mainly just very, very long timelines in time dilation.

We finally reached a major milestone. Interesting concepts, but it just kept going on and on and on and on and on and on and on without much real progress happening outside of time dilation.

I hope the next book has more story progress, actual leveling, politics, etc.

Oh well

The series continues to deteriorate. Way too much minutinae. Often akin to reading a text book. Word of advice to the author....Good books are about the story and readers making a connection with the characters. Good books ARE NOT about pages and pages of useless technical diatribe most readers soon forget.

Good story, but so much inner monolog.

I like the story, characters, and systems... however, the inner monologing can just get so exhausting! There is a line where examination becomes simply bloviating.

Damn good

The spell in depth study and creation was by far the best I have seen in a while took an op character and took it to God mode but still felt like there was more to go!!!
