The exciting story continues in The Episode One – Save 80% Get Your Copy Here----->>> 21, 2020: America is worse off than it has ever been economically, but the worst is yet to come. On a seemingly normal Monday morning, a power outage occurs across the entire state of Georgia. A massive breakdown of vehicles and communications follows, sending towns and cities into chaos. The sweeping blackout is unlike anything ever seen, but that's not all. Without access to news, there is no information on the mysterious phenomenon. Rumors of a looming war spreads, creating further panic. Only one weapon could be capable of such stealth an electromagnetic pulse (EMP),and on that Monday, the nightmarish cold war scenario becomes a chilling reality. Meanwhile, a group of preppers band together amidst the chaos to seek safety at a rural bug-out house. But getting there won’t be easy in this exciting thriller of a dark future where society is on the brink, and no one is safe.
This is a good start to the book about survivalists. The story takes on a journey involving three families who have made a pact concerning an EMP attack. It does have a few mistakes in the text but nothing that would seriously disrupt the story line. It was an fast and enjoyable read.
The way I am rating a book, is rather simple. It’s whether you enjoy it, and keep thinking about, eager to see what the ending is. Sometimes the ending is either disappointing, or seems to be missing. In our case “The pulse” fulfilled the 1st two objectives, and somehow, it felt like the author, could extend the story on his 1st book . We do know now that the book "The Pulse Omnibus" is actually the full story (all 3 parts). Anyway. If you have couple of hours to “kill” I highly recommend it ( The 1st part of 100 pages). But you will be better of with reading the full version of"The Pulse Omnibus. There are lots of books regarding the EMP (Electro (Magnet (Pulse) type of disasters, and here you have a small taste of it. I rated it with 4 stars since in my view there were too many none logical and hard to believe facts.
Uh dude? Could you finish it? Lol! I didn't realize that it is only 97 pages! That said, it looks at three different families of preppers. For just a few hours before to a few hours after the power goes out. So nothing happens--nothing except the power goes out.
It wasn't a bad beginning, decent editing with only a few grammatical moments. Not exactly big on character depth with the short length. It was free so I can't complain. I would like the other 300 pages of book, thanks! It's more of a prologue. I gave it three stars and would like to give it more if I could read the next 300-400 pages. Will I look for book two? Yes. Will I pay for it? Maybe...
I believe we all live with the possibility of an EMP happening. I'm not running scared or planning for one, nor am I preparing for one. An EMP is the whole point of this story and the 3 families that are bound together with a bug- out house and enough provisions for at least one year.
The Pulse Origins is the first of three books. As I have said in reviews of other books-- I'm about tired of sequel type books. Authors-- write the whole book and charge the $7.00 to $10.00 for them and be done with it! I understand 'indie' writing, but I hate sequels.
I had high expectations for this book. Another EMP, world ending book. Unfortunately, there is nothing that sets it apart or makes it special- from others like this. The first 1/3 of the book introduces the characters. Flows smoothly. Characters are clearly defined. About half through the book, I still had hopes that is would be special. This is not an entire book. It's just an intro for the next book. It is also a cliff-hanger. So, if you do like this, you are forced to buy the next book to get a real story. Each book is about 150 pages for Kindle $2.99. Couldn't finish this book.
This guy has a good idea, but he doesn't know how to write. There are even grammatical errors in this book, aside from misprints. An EMP is an electromagnetic pulse and is an effective way to shut down whole nations. This book is valuable in describing steps to take in preparing for an EMP.
Too short and could have used editing and a first read through. The mistakes were ones that would have been discovered by anyone doing a read through before submitting. Other than these mentioned problems, I found it good.
I chose five stars because the book moved along well, and made good sense! There were no stupid possibilities, actually this story could really happen! I would recommend this book to most people who like action, and quick thinking!!
Definitely enjoying something that isn't zombies, plague, or aliens and focusing on survivalists. The story is interesting, but could use some better editing.
I was disappointed in this book. Even though it is well written and a good read, to me, the fact that this is a story about a bunch of different people and they are all preppers, is just more of the same. As in, been there, done that. I want more. I don't want a by the numbers book on how to be a prepper, I don't want a book that tells how preppers survive, I don't want a book that preaches how society will fall....
Call my silly but I want a story. I don't really care what the theme is or even the plot for that matter. I want believable characters, ones that drag you into their lives and make you a part of them whether you wanted to nor not. One that grow and learn and do the things we ourselves can not, or will not, do. This story, sadly, did not do that.

A prepper story, about three families in Georgia when there is an EMP strike. These families have pooled their resources and bought a house in Milledgeville. James is the live-in caretaker. He seems to be a bit more on the ball than the others. When the EMP hits, there is much un-Prepper-like discussion about whether to bug-out immediately, or to stay and see how things work out. The decision to bug-out is made, much to the chagrin of the teenagers in one family. In fact, the oldest, a 17 year old, decides to stay with his girlfriend. That's obviously a mistake, but whatever. The families arrive in Milledgeville, but they don't seem prepared for a long wait. They think they may stay just for a week or so. You can tell this is gonna be a disaster in the making. Results: it's not book length, and you can see trouble headed their way.
Things I would have done better and the reasoning behind it
I have it five stars solely because it was a good read but there were a few draw backs. One was within the first few paragraphs. It jumped backwards to give the readers a backstory before getting to the true meat of book. Then it told the readers the reason for the blackout. If a book is supposed to be a mystery, the reader expects to be led along the clue trail .
I hate to be that guy, but here goes. This was a terrible book. It could serve the author well to do some editing. Spoiler alert: the book is about an EMP blast. Nobody know what happened at first. That is about all, and it happens again and again. The only thing that I found that I can appreciate was the stereotype that the principal had towards the teacher-prepper.
I wasn't sure if this would be something I would like, but it has captured my interest and I wan to read the rest of the series now. Roger Hayden has done a great job at creating a scary and realistic play out of what can be a potentially real life event.
The Pulse Origins is the beginning of this series written by author Roger Hayden. It gives a background of the families and the preparations they make prior to the EMP event.
This has got to be one of the most poorly written books I've ever read. So why in the world did I finish it? Because I liked the premise and wanted to see where the author took it. But with every chapter it got worse and worse. The character's dialog was unbelievably stupid.
Don't really need doom and gloom especially since it is incomplete. If this is your genre and you are willing to shell out to find out what happens to these 3families, it's a good "beginning".
I loved this book. I could connect to the characters and enjoyed the time given to get to know them. I understand the splitting up the story as most authors do and it will not stop me from reading a free book and enjoying it.
Book is well written but some of the dialogue and thinking can be hard to swallow. But this coming from someone who definitely not a prepped. It is a short read.
