Possessive Small Town Alpha Kings #11

Lycan King’s Rejected Runaway Bookish Mate: A Rejected Mate Secret Baby Shifter Romance

Rate this book
I got a job as a billionaire's assistant.
Nobody told me he was a Lycan King- or that I'm his fated mate.

I'm a café waitress who devours paranormal romance novels like oxygen. Fated mates, possessive alphas, growly shifters who'd burn the world for their woman- escapist fantasy. Fiction. Not real.

Then a sexy billionaire grabs my arm at a country club and growls "mate."

Jake Hunter. Golden eyes. Jaw sharp enough to cut glass. Obscenely rich. He'd been showing up at my café for weeks, ordering black coffee, watching me like I was prey.

Then he offered me a job for ninety thousand dollars a year.

Soon, he's pinning me against his office wall,
claiming me and making me scream his name.
He even growls with jealousy when any men even breathe near me.

"You're mine. Every inch. Say it."

He's everything I've written in the margins of my favorite books.

Until his coworker makes up a lie - and he believes her over me.

He rejects me in front of his entire pack. Calls me a traitor. Doesn't let me speak.

So I run away, in a new town, with a new name,

With a lycan king's baby growing inside me.

Eight months later, he tracks me down. He looks like death. And when he sees my belly?

He falls to his knees and sobs.

Now he's sleeping outside my door, groveling to get me back,

"I'll give up the throne. I'll give up everything. Just tell me how to fix this."

But I haven't decided if he deserves a second chance- or if I'll watch him burn.

Good story, but some closer editing would be helpful

I have read other stories from the same authors, and while I have enjoyed them, some closer attention to details would help the continuity. For example, the FMC is riding the bus home but turns up the radio to help distract her from her thoughts after meeting the MMC. Another example is after the rejection of the FMC she and her brother leave and take a long bus trip and then a plane to the new town they’ve chosen to escape to. Yet, when the MMC comes after her, he drives six hours to get to the same place. Yes, these are minor things, but are disruptive to the story and somewhat jarring to the reader.

silly but not horrible

I read these books because occasionally a really well written one pops up and makes it worthwhile. This is not one of those books.

So many inconsistencies. They took two buses and a 4 hour flight and ended up only six hours away? They had no jobs no money and left with what they could carry but she owned the house? Those are just the ones I remember. Seriously don’t waste your time.

Story itself was good- but there was so much repetition- could have easily cut at least 200 pages from it and the story would not have been impacted

Why was this almost 900 pages?

I’ll admit that I skimmed most of this. There was no reason why it was as long as it was when the climax was as weak as it was. Willa said it best when she said she was so pathetic and desperate to cling on to a man who brutally humiliated her. At least she’s self aware, and yet no change was achieved with that actualization. She stayed a doormat who only knew how to whine, mope and cry until the very end.

Jake isn’t to be overlooked either. The character is such a dunce. Truly, it’s any wonder how he was so successful when he was so easily manipulated and tricked. Betrayal or not, calling women derogatory names? Disgusting. This HEA was not deserved.

For the most part the love interests in this series are somewhat redeemable Jake however is the opposite. The rejection in this one was incredibly cruel to the point that when he revealed he was dying my only reaction was “good” bc that’s what he deserves. How the hell is he not only a king but corporate billionaire who is so easily manipulated by evidence that would have taken him ten minutes to sus out. Why did he so readily believe Willa was committing espionage??? Nothing made sense in this and I truly did not care to read about them resolving things because it was not deserved

Coffee and Books

18+, XXX. Adult content, reader discretion advised. Willa gave up everything to raise her brother when her parents died. Mick wanted to make her proud when he got a job at a country club and gave her a tour. That day introduced Jake into their lives, and unbeknownst to Willa and Mick changed their life sempiternally. Why? Jake is a werewolf, Willa is his mate and Mick is Willa's devoted brother a d Jake's new employee. Jake will mess up things with Willa and put her in danger. Willa and Mick will run. Jake will almost die. Then, stuff really hits the fan.

Most of the books in this series are very hit or miss for me, but this was fine. The groveling was pretty good and I like these to scratch that weird itch in my brain. I do wish the editing was better though in general. There's always inconsistencies somewhere or weird errors. At some point while reading I start to hope these are written by real people and not AI. Just because this is guilty pleasure reading doesn't mean it can still be sloppy. And yet I read a bunch of these stories, so maybe ignore me here.

A second chance Romance

She is a hard working young woman who took over raising her brother when she was eighteen and their parents died. When he is about to graduate she meets a man who fascinates her in the coffee shop she works at. Now the trouble begins because he is the Lycan King and being pushed to marry a female he does not like while wanting a human mate. Good Adult Read.

Another sad doormat

I always know it's going to be bad when we get 70% through the book and the betrayer is still being too stupid to live.

No grovel beyond a pathetic "sorry." Complete doormat of a woman who gets body betrayal syndrome and gives in. Priorities, amirite?

3☆

What is it with a hero not checking facts before making decisions. I absolutely enjoyed the unlimited part, you'll see what I mean. There was some alot of other women drama that you'll love as well.

Kinda all over the place

The book started out really well. Then things started to repeat and almost skipped ahead, there were a lot of inconsistencies. It was a struggle to finish.

Good but…

It was an ok read but it’s too long and dragged out, story could’ve fit under 250 pages, talks about needing strong Lunas but didn’t really say if FMC became one. Ending HEA but meh.

Notes for me

Kindle book says it’s book 12

It’s a long book at 700 pages

Jake - Lycan king

Willa - 23 yo waitress. Parents died when she was 18 and she raised her 13 year old brother, Mick

Willa has been dreaming of a wolf since childhood. Sometimes it happens nightly, other times it’s years in between. She’s watched the wolf grow up. She loves fated mate romance.

Her brother starts work at a country club. She visits him. It’s owned by Jake’s pack and he is there for a meeting. Realizes she is his fated mate.

He furious. He doesn’t want a mate and definitely not a human one. He tries to stay away but can’t. Ends up hiring her as an assistant.

His stepmother tries to set him up with Zara, daughter of councilman. The council is pressuring him to take a mate.

Willa finds out she’s pregnant. At the same time she is at the cafe visiting her best friend. She sees her old neighbor. They are photographed at the coffee shop. He’s the guy who bid against Jake’s company and won the bid.

Jake believes she a traitor and rejects her saying horrible things. She’s a whore, not worth his time. He also fires Mick from the country club.

His assistant Hilda comes to Willa’s house and gives her an envelope with a pregnancy termination leaflet. She says this is how Jake wants her to handle the pregnancy. Willa never told him, but according to Hilda he knows and doesn’t want it. Willa and Mick decide to leave town.

Two months later Jake is wasting away from the rejection. He hates Willa but misses her too. He’s taking Zara to events to shut her up. She thinks it means something. His wolf refuses to communicate with him.

He sees Brandon and confronts him. Brandon tells him he’s dating Missy, never Willa and W did not betray him

Now Jake has to decide what to do with the information. .
