Absolutely loved this book. I have nothing but good things to say about it. I’m so grateful for getting this as an early read.

I loved Roderick in the first book and am so happy that he wasn’t turned into a villain in the Millie/Elis storyline.

This was such a beautiful story where both characters had their own journey and had their own personal battles to overcome.

The mental health rep with Roderick was done so well and his connection with Yomira was so beautiful. I don’t usually cry and books but I definitely teared up multiple times during their interactions.

Anya’s journey was just as beautiful and powerful. From being “caged” and feeling an obligation to a life she didn’t want to finding freedom and love was done so well. She was definitely rough around the edges and a little hard to like at first - but the flashbacks really gave the needed backstory.

The ending was perfect - will recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I went into Spar of Hearts unsure where I would land with it. I am obsessed with Fangs Divide Us and I wanted more of that. I didn’t know exactly how Spar of Hearts would follow the first story or how it would leave me feeling. But it did NOT disappoint.

Roderick is a character that really had to grow on me. Knowing him from FDU, it was hard for me to really separate him from Millie at first. And, when I did, I still found myself rolling my eyes at him. I think I audibly screamed at him at least twice over his words and actions.

But, I also found myself relating to him in ways I never imagined. Katherine does such a good job at walking you through where he’s at in his depression and emotions. I found myself being pulled under the currents with him. It left a part of my soul feeling very heavy and yearning for a light in the dark.

And, then I came across a sentence in the book that hit me so hard I didn’t know if I could continue to read that night. It was so simple, yet it held all of my own emotions over the last few weeks.

Pivoting to Anya, I found myself in love with and enthralled by her from the very beginning. She was loud and unapologetically herself. She even bit men who tried to court her. I loved her for that.

But there’s so much depth to Anya. She yearns for a simple life, for a normal life outside of what others have mapped for her. She knows everything she wants, but it feels so unattainable.

She’s complex. She’s raw. She’s beautiful.

The emotions Katherine puts you through to understand all that she is and who she’s become is truly traumatic. My heart broke as I read each scene. I cried for Anya, for the young girl she wanted to be and the adult that still felt caged.

I was thrilled to see remnants of Yomira, Millie and Ellis sprinkled throughout Spar of Hearts. Yomira is the most clever girl. She’s such a special character, to me and to those whose lives she invades. Her little side quest (hush, hush) had me kicking my feet and giggling.

By the time I was finished, I found myself obsessed. I have laughed until my cheeks hurt and I have sobbed until my cheeks burned. I have been broken by Katherine’s words and I have been mended by them. I need more of these characters, of her stories. And, as Anya would say:

After loving Fang’s Divide Us, I was already all-in on this world of vampires, wyverns, magic, and found family.... so when I found out book two would be Roderick’s story, I was beyond excited. And wow, did this deliver.

Spar of Hearts has everything I want in a romantasy: a solid, engaging plot (yes, an actual plot!), delicious tension, well-earned steam, meaningful character growth, and high-seas adventure with a rivals-to-lovers edge. I was hooked from the masquerade meet-cute and never looked back.

Roderick’s arc was a standout for me. His growth throughout the story, especially the thoughtful, compassionate mental health representation, was beautifully done and added so much emotional depth to his character. Watching him step out of the shadows and reckon with guilt, duty, and desire made him such a compelling MMC.

And Anya? Absolute badass. Strong, sassy, sharp-tongued, and unapologetic, she’s the kind of FMC who doesn’t need rescuing, she is the danger. I loved her hunger for freedom, her leadership, and how perfectly she holds her own against Roderick. The slow burn between them? Immaculate. Give me swordplay tension, overboard disasters, sassy banter, magic, wyvern rides, and stolen moments any day.

Just like book one, that twist toward the end completely caught me off guard, I genuinely thought this story was heading somewhere very different, and I loved being proven wrong. A happy ending and emotional payoff? Yes please.

I also have to shout out the artwork, seeing the characters through the author’s eyes again was such a treat and added another layer of immersion.

Thank you to the author and Torch Lit Ink for an advanced copy, all opinions are my own.

My journey through Spar of Hearts brought me right back into the magical adventure that started in Fangs of Fate, and I loved every second of continuing this story. This time, the quest takes us across the ocean in search of magic that is desperately needed back home, especially to help heal sick children in their realm. The stakes felt even bigger while still keeping that cozy charm these books do so well. Along the way, we meet a sneaky prince who definitely has his own agenda, and watching the characters navigate both danger and emotion made the adventure feel even more immersive.

One of my favorite parts of the story was seeing all of the different relationships unfold. We get returning connections that already feel comforting and familiar, while also seeing new romances and budding feelings start to grow. Beyond romance, the friendships and found family elements added so much heart to the story. I also really enjoyed how the books blend humans and fantastical creatures together, especially with some characters fully aware magic exists while others either doubt it or refuse to believe it altogether. The balance between cute, cozy moments and adrenaline-filled questing kept me fully invested the entire time. I’ve been reading these through the Kickstarter editions, and after finishing this one, I’m even more excited to see what the final two books in the series have waiting for us.

My favorite vampire himbo and werewolf princess. See, original sentences do still occur!

From the beginning I found this to be such a fun read. Roderick is so blatantly oblivious to Princess Anya absolutely despising him. Just doing the exact opposite of what she wants, clueless to her annoyance and daydreaming of being her knight in shining armor.

Along the way of writing this wrong-after she tosses him overboard-he deals with some very deep seated and serious mental health issues. I appreciated how this was represented and approached, as was Anya's trauma. And once she gives him a chance, oh how the mighty falls. She likes him so much at a point that the mere thought of giving up a future together has her hyperventilating.

I loved Blackbird and Anya together. Their relationship was such a good addition and afforded Anya a chance at some introspection that was much needed. There were so many themes of found family for both characters as they expressed some very complicated and traumatic family dynamics.

I loved each one of these characters and maybe a dragon and wyvern too. I never felt like a character was only used as a plot device. They all served purpose and added layers to both the story and one another.

Although filled with action and some heavier topics, I found this to be such a cozy read that I absolutely adored.

💕 Spar of Hearts 💕

As a sickness plagues Centarian children, rivals Lord Rodrick Bryson and Lycanian Princess Anya Delemond find themselves sailing the sea together upon a ship known as the Lupus Star. Rodrick hopes to find a distraction from the mystery maiden he met at a masquerade ball and Anya wants to act on her wanderlust after being caged for so long while also proving she is fit to be heir.

Rating: 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this rivals-to-lovers fantasy so much! I found myself unable to put it down.

I really enjoyed the plot. I thought the pacing was done very well. It felt like while there was action and movement, we were able to get to know the characters and the world at such a nice speed.

My favorite part of this book is that it feels cozy, but it talks about important topics such as mental health and trauma. I think the rep in this is great and accurate!

Rodrick and Anya have my heart. I thought they both had such strong personalities and characterization. I felt connected to them.

Tropes:
Werewolf x vampire
Princess x knight
Rivals to lovers
Secret identity
Hurt/comfort
Steamy fade-to-black
Male yearning
Forced proximity

Thank you to the author for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Spar of Hearts was such a fun and emotionally engaging romance that completely swept me up in its charm. Katherine Crowe delivered the perfect mix of tension, heart, and chemistry, making this a binge-worthy read that was incredibly easy to fall into.

The dynamic between the main characters was one of my favourite parts of the story. Their banter felt natural and sharp, with just enough emotional vulnerability underneath to make every interaction meaningful. The slow build of the romance kept me invested the entire way through, and the chemistry absolutely sparkled from start to finish. ❤️🔥

I also really appreciated how the story balanced lighter, swoony moments with deeper emotional themes. The characters felt flawed and real, and watching them navigate their feelings while trying to protect their own hearts made the romance even more satisfying.

I’m giving this four stars because there were a few moments where I wanted a little more depth and development in certain scenes, but overall this was such an enjoyable and heartfelt read. It had the perfect balance of romance, tension, and emotional payoff that makes contemporary romance so addictive.

I was so excited to read this book after the first one blew me away! I loved Millie and Ellis, but I knew Roderick and Anya would hit me harder. Roderick had so many hidden struggles. He was the strong one that helped everyone out in the first book. Getting to know him better in this book was a great experience. Behind his helpfulness, he struggled with his purpose and belonging. There was great mental health rep in this book with his depression. The ups and downs and coping methods were shown in a way that felt realistic with a fantasy book spin.

I loved the relationship in this book. It was a hard won journey of miscommunication and assumptions that they both had to work through. Anya just wanted to be a person who was liked for who she was and not the position she held. Roderick saw through the facade to the wild, adventurous person she yearned to be. He loved the true version of her. It was beautiful! In return, Anya saw Roderick and claimed him as hers. Ughhhhh I love them!!

The author describes her books as “high stakes with cozy breaks” and I completely agree. They are my type of cozy-ish fantasy books. I highly recommend reading them!

Let me start off by saying I do not like to read books in the 3rd POV, and this book is in the 3rd POV. I would normally DNF a book when I realize that it's in 3rd person. But I was very interested in the blurb of this story that I stuck it out and read it. It did take me about a quarter of the book to get super into it. I do love that there are character pictures within the book that go along with some of the scenes.

I loved the author's rendition of vampires and werewolves in this book. Anya is a princess, but doesn’t like it when people just assume that she is a common, stuck-up princess. She likes to get her hands dirty and help out, especially if it helps out her people. Roderick is a vampire who does everything to helpout the princess without asking if she needs any help and assumes that she is just a common, stuck-up princess. But when the kids of Anya’s people are sick, they must work together and communicate to be able to find/get the cure that will save them. It’s not all sunshine and roses for them, until a drunken night has one of them spilling secrets that make the other person understand why they have acted a certain way towards the other.

Thanks to NetGalley for my arc x

Tasked with accompanying the Centarians as they flee from their home, Princess Anya is aided aboard the rescue ship by Lord Bryson, a rogue of the highest order. He sets out to woo her and is quite unsuccessful. His advances are all spurned, much to his disappointment. In fact she launches him overboard.

Months later they are thrown together on another mission, this time to secure enough Mana (magic)to combat an illness that is affecting children. They set off to an unchartered land hoping to broker a deal with the Royalty who reign over it.

The romance in this book is really sweet. The banter between Bryson and Anya is top tier. Underneath all of Bryson's bravado is a man who struggles with depression and anxiety. It was great that we had his POV so we could really understand what he goes through as he tries to open up to Anya and battle his demons. We really root for him on this journey.

"I just... want to be what someone is missing. The cold spot in a bed. The empty chair at breakfast. The absent shoes by the door".

And a special mention for the amazing character art.

Plot 3.75/5
Characters 4/5
Ending 3.75/5
Interest 3.75/5

Overall 3.75/5

-This book was quite entertaining, I wish I’d read the first book seeing as Roderick seemed to be a big part of it at some point. But it can still be read and understood entirely on its own. Although I must say, this is more of a romance than anything else. There are moments where it felt like the entire plot was put on hold to make space for the romance, which is alright in some instances but when you’re trying to save children, it seemed a bit iffy.

-The characters were fun. I really liked the dynamic between Roderick and Anya (the comparisons are very accurate). I liked the back and forth, which I was upset kind of left once they got together. It’s often like that and unfortunately, once they reveal their feelings, all of the interest in relationship kind of fades.

-I was truly wondering how this book would end because I felt lien the plot was put entirely to the side for the romance to blossom and everything ended up being related to the romance rather than the plot. I wished that the resolution to saving children took the lead instead. Although I would read more in this world, the epilogue kept the intrigue going for the next book.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Victory editing for the arc!

3.75 rounded up! This was a fun read, the plot itself was really interesting and the characters specifically Anya and Roderick had a lot of depth to them. I really appreciated the inclusion of mental health as it felt so natural within the story and in my opinion was portrayed extremely well. I loved the discussion the group had about it and I feel it was handled amazingly by the author. The characters back stories added a lot to them and I really loved that we got both pov’s. I really liked the found family element too among the crew members and how they interacted with one another. (Also the character art was so beautiful!!) The banter between the two of them, particularly in the second half, was amazing as well as the authors humour and I loved it once they started to fully work together. Knocked a star off just because it felt a little slow in places. I also feel like the plot was a little lost to the romance at times so would’ve liked to see more of that but overall a really enjoyable read!

In the second book in our series, we follow dogged but kind Sir Roderick, the third member of our love triangle, into his next adventure. After being gently rejected by his finance Millicent, Sir Roderick is adventuring when he meets princess Anya.

The book has a great cozy feel - it's dealing with some deep topics - caring for refugees and children, Roderick's mental health struggles, parental mistreatment, but both Roderick and Anya are deeply compassionate people who clash at first due to immediately imagining that the other person thinks the worst of them due to their own insecurities. I think this book would be very relatable to an older young adult or a new adult audience who are dealing with themes of being able to be compassionate with themselves to be kind to a partner. The book also has a kindness in belief in a diverse community where the descendants of werewolves and vampires can live together. This is a great romantasy for a younger audience. Thanks to Victory Edition Coop for my early copy.

This was such a cozy, low-stress paranormal romance.
With its shifters and vampires, the book doesn’t necessarily reinvent the genre or become an all-time favorite, but it was genuinely a fun and comforting read. Sometimes, it’s nice to step away from high-stakes, emotionally exhausting stories, and this worked perfectly as a breather between heavier books.
One aspect I particularly appreciated was the portrayal of the MMC’s mental health. A lot of his symptoms and struggles felt believable and thoughtfully written, which made him easy to connect with.
I also found the pressure placed on the FMC very relatable and well portrayed. The story touches on the constant expectation for women to work harder, prove more, and continually justify their place in ways men often don’t have to. It added a layer of depth to an otherwise light and cozy romance.
Overall, not “the book of the year” for me, but absolutely an enjoyable and comforting read that delivered exactly the kind of atmosphere I was looking for.

Another absolutely addictive story by Katherine Crowe. I devoured this book in two sittings and my only complaint is that the book ended.

Roderick is both incredibly sweet but also so unaware and it makes him a deliciously sweet MMC who is giving it his all without knowing exactly how to do that. The mental health rep in his ARC is also really refreshing to see, it hits as a real representation instead of romanticized.

Anya is a badass and I want to be her when I grow up. She is kind but is also not afraid to give someone the push they need (ifykyk). She is desperate to escape the confines of royal life while still being dedicated to her people, and it made for an incredible arc.

Their love story had me kicking my feet, and the steam (without the spice) had me blushing and anticipating their next more intimate moment. Whether that moment was just tender care or Roderick's fangs coming out.

If you want a cozy romantasy with high stakes, fade to black steam, and genuine heart: READ THIS BOOK. Literally drop everything and read this book, you cannot go wrong.

Spar of Hearts is a Romantasy with rivals-to-lovers and forced proximity themes. This is Anya and Roderick's story, filled with werewolf and vampire romance with secret identity and found family. Anya is a smart, intelligent werewolf princess and co-captain with a vampire lord, searching for a cure for a mysterious sickness affecting the Centarian kids. I love their hate-love dynamic, and the witty banter makes their connection more potent. Their story slowly gets more interesting when they get separated from the rest of the crew. I love how they work together and slowly understand each other. Also, I love how they finally open up to each other and the slow burn that brings them closer. Their story gets more interesting when the Winter Prince comes in with that twist!! I really enjoyed their story and can't wait to read more.

Crowe’s storytelling continues to draw readers into the vivid world of Valeria, blending a raw, gritty atmosphere with touches of magic that feel both authentic and enchanting. Roderick’s character arc is particularly touching, offering a sincere and delicate portrayal of mental health challenges that adds emotional resonance. Meanwhile, Anya’s fierce independence and resilience serve as a perfect foil, creating a relationship that feels both genuine and well-developed. The pacing occasionally slows during the extended sea passages, where internal longing and reflection take over the plot’s momentum. Still, the adrenaline-pumping climax and the charmingly witty wyvern bring a satisfying payoff that keeps the story engaging. This romantic fantasy, rich with queer-positive themes, balances heartfelt character growth with a sense of grand adventure, making for a compelling read.

Princess Anya has my heart and i loved her being a wolf. This book felt like medieval times and really did it well. Anya was very strong and didn't let anyone keep her down. I was so enthralled to see Roderick's arc and how he changed. I loved the line "as you wish" that and the masked meeting between the lovers made me think of the princess bride. i definitely got the vibes on anya and dimitri from anya and roderick. As someone who struggles with depression I adored the way that they dealt and showcased it. I loved that this book had it's cozy moments and really encapsulated me in time and the setting.

Spar of Hearts is a fine rivals-to-lovers standalone. I may have enjoyed it more had I read the first book in the universe but I don't feel I missed anything critical to the story. There is a good balance of plot and romance and the writing and world building is engaging. Unfortunately I just didn't really like the two leads. Their antagonism towards each other in the beginning was beyond a "miscommunication" trope. There actually didn't seem to be any communication between them and they both worked on incorrect assumptions as a result. It honestly came across a immature for a war hero and a 20-something princess. The magic system and the larger plot were what kept me engaged but overall for me it was hard to stay interested in the romance.

I love this series so muchhhhh!!

Dual POV. Kind of enemies to lovers. Interconnected standalone. Werewolf X Vampire.

Samantha smashed the narration once again! I love her Queen's English voice for Anya, it really tickles my brain.

Its like two books in one with the timeline (which i'm definitely not complaining about because omg insane)

For those like me who have read the first book, i'm so happy they are two very different stories.

Loved the mental health rep for Roderick (is that a spoiler?) I loved finding out more about him after his appearance in the first book! But also Anyas journey too!

Would have liked Anya to meet the dress maker from the first book.

After that bonus epilogue?!? HELLO?!? I NEED THE NEXT BOOK!

Spar of Hearts is a heartwarming adventure that perfectly captures the Rivals to Lovers feeling. The dynamic between the MC’s feels like Han/Leah if they were a vampire/werewolf. On top of the magical setting and character that burrow immediately into your heart—this story presents depression, autism, and suicidal ideation in a very real and respectful manner. The overall vibe is still uplifting and joyful, but the topics are definitely present and addressed. Overall, it was a wonderful read! I can’t wait to see what happens next in this world!

ARC for a honest review;

First off I’d like to say this book hit different, I absolutely mean it. I was able to relate so hard with Roderick with depression and emotions it made the book more real for me. Anya is a strong FMC with no frigs to give but there is so much more to her.

Katherine really puts your emotions through the wringer. I don’t think I cried so much from a book but cackle like a crazed witch either lol! Honestly was such a great book and I will never stop recommending it to everyone!

Thank you for this incredible ARC!

I really enjoyed this romantasy full of angst, forced proximity, and hidden identity! Roderick and Anya were two lovable fools who got off on the wrong paw and things escalated from there. Roderick’s struggles with mental illness were raw and honest. I also appreciated that the author showed it was okay to take medication for a mental illness just like you would any physical ailment. I’m looking forward to more stories in this world, especially Marg and a certain lord. Thanks to @torchlitink and @crowethatwrites for the review copy!

Spar of Hearts was really a great book to read! I love their dynamics, small banters, and the tension! It was so good and well-written for me. When I first read it, I am hypnotized to see what's next to happen and eager to finish it. It totally hooks me up. I will always love the tension between Anya and Roderick especially their yearning scenes aaa so good. This book became one of my top list 'must read' this year. One of my favorites already this year. I love a good forced proximity romance. Especially when said romance is only a part of the story. We have a story full of adventures, challenges, Shifters, and found family. There's minor detail of intimacy before closed door romance and mental health issues throughout with one of the characters that tends to include a lot of self doubt and negative thoughts but it's such an important part of who this character is and what they are to each orher. Highly recommend.

I quite enjoyed this. I hadn’t read any of the authors other books which did make following along with the plot and all the detail of the universe a bit hard - but that was my bad.

I liked Roderick and how besotted he was with Anya and he didn’t give up in pursuing her. Anya though was my favourite character by far. She was so rough around the edges and had such a big character arc over the book to end up happy and in love.

Thanks for the opportunity for an ARC of this!

3.75 rounded up. I was super excited to jump into this after enjoying Fangs Divide Us. I enjoyed the characters, and overall dynamic and plot. However I feel the pacing dragged especially in the middle. I definitely prefer my cozy romantasies on the shorter end. I also think maybe there’s a little too much going on with characters and subplots? Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the story. The ending was super cute. I just think this could’ve been consolidated a little bit.
