One minute wolf shifter Katrina Hagan is shoe shopping with her packmate Joy, the next minute she’s being carried off by the Alpha of the Killingworth pack. Now she’s a hostage, a pawn in the negotiations between two rival packs – so why can’t she act like it? Her kidnapper, Maddox “Mad Dog” Killingworth, has a reputation as a ruthless killer – she should be petrified.
Instead, within days of being taken prisoner, the sassy she-wolf has Maddox’s pack eating out of her hand and she’s making Maddox’s inner wolf howl with need every time she saunters by. Too bad their packs have been mortal enemies for generations, and she’s fighting tooth and claw to resist her burning desire for Maddox.
Just when it seems like Maddox might finally be breaking down her barriers, it turns out that Katrina’s pack hasn’t been playing fair, and a shocking betrayal threatens to wipe out Maddox’s entire pack. How can Maddox choose between the love of his life…and the life of his pack?
Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.
Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).
When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.
Taken By the Alpha was a fun read. Katrina is taken hostage by a neighbouring pack and sparks fly between her and the alpha, Maddox. There is simmering chemistry between them right from the start and I loved their banter together. I laughed aloud several times and I enjoyed seeing these two characters begrudgingly figure out they are mates and accept it. There is a little action thrown into this one and a pretty nasty stepfather I wanted to punch more than once. A must read for shifter fans and fans of Georgette.
I listened to this as an audiobook not knowing exactly what to expect. It was short and sweet and I really enjoyed it.
Maddox and Katrinas romance was steamy!!! I want to read the rest of the series now. It was my first Georgette St. Clair book and I definitely am going to read more.
I loved how the author set up the next book, with Carver and Virginia.
This is the first of this series that I've read, but also the first blurb I liked. The resolution was quick and simple. The characters were well matched although not well developed, but the story was by far too short for the kind of development one would like. I find that with this author, the novellas are hit and miss, some are great and others I don't care for.
Katrina Hagan's mother is terrible, she is more concern about prestige than the happiness and well-being of her daughter. Good thing she had Maddox and other people she could depend on when she needed it most. Love the storyline. It had just the right amount of sweet, steam and suspense.
I love how Georgette St. Clair can make a romantic novel full of action scenes. I was like "Run, shewolf, run!" it was that awesome. this book is for you, if you love kickass heroine, sexy strong alpha, psycho killer, awesome packmates and an idiot mother who cares only for her looks rather than her own daughter. I was this excited, when I finished this book...
what I don't like in Georgette St. Clair books is that a lot of times it's more telling rather than showing kind of scenes. must of scenes are cut out of the book and characters from the book telling us what happened - I mean like, come on man, I paid for this book for some action scenes, I want them! give them to me!
anyway, as always miss Georgette St. Clair, you made me laugh, cry and fall in love with your characters AGAIN. wonderful book and I recommend it to all... and yes miss Georgette St. Clair is my QUEEN!
Maddox has issued a verdict that none of the opposing pack can set foot into the local shifter town after a few of that members pack got into a fight and after everything that has been going on with that packs alpha. When Katrina goes shopping in town it is an insult to Maddox and he has no option but to take her back to his pack lands until he and her alpha can come to an agreement.
That male chauvinist Maddox has another thing coming if he thinks he can just kidnap her. Her step father will issue him a death challenge and then she will finally be able to go home. In the mean time she has to ignore the impossible sexy man she finds herself trapped with.
So I did not know that this was book 5 in a series until later but I am slowly working my way though different the other books in the series. Although, not really in order. This book is great. Sassy female versus bossy alpha. What is not to love. On the bright side these books are great even out of order. Some things are given away in the other books but not enough to not enjoy the plots. I was surprised by the gopher shifters in this book though. I am used to a lot of types of shifters but had not heard of gopher shifters. For anyone who enjoys books about strong independent women who do not take any bull from others, let alone her captor this will be a book for you.
It's true there is barely a shred of originality here. In that sense, this book is more of a box-ticking exercise than a story.
The book's real crime, however, is that there is no reason for the main couple to fall in love. Given that the end of a romance is pre-ordained, you have to give a reason for the journey. There is weak mention of 'he liked her since he was a kid', but in terms of when they see each other for the first time here, she hates him, he teases her, she gets a bit turned on, they fuck. You've gotta try harder than that. The jump from 'he's a creep who kidnapped me' to 'I love you' is too quick, and amounts to nothing more than they seem to enjoy fucking.
On which point, she gets over being kidnapped really quickly.
The sex, whilst competently written doesn't tell you anything about the relationship (or the plot) either, which better written sex scenes do.
The plot by the BAD GUY was probably the most interesting thing in the book, as ultimately cursory as it was. And it really shouldn't be in a romance.
Quite a lot of clumsy prose. The highlight was: 'I've never lost a Death Match.' 'Neither have I!' So, the two alive characters have never lost a death match? WOOOAAAAHHHH!
This was a nice read. The main female character Katrina wasn’t tactful to me and had a tart mouth. If you like smart mouthy heroines you’ll be interested in the book. Don’t get me wrong I like spunk and spice too , but at the appropriate time and appropriate amount. The story was interesting and I would recommend the read if you like shifters. I had a feeling sometimes that important details and reactions to situations were left out. Both the main characters saw each other naked a few times while shifting forms (before they were intimate) and the possible awkwardness of that went unaddressed . Also if your listening to the book at 2:13:15 that was the perfect time for the author to say “R.P.G” when describing the loud sound Maddox heard when Katrina’s room was attacked . This audio is on YT as of 12/5/19
As always I thank the author for sharing his/her imagination with me .
Rival Packs! One run by an arrogant, self-serving Alpha & the other by a fair, loving of his pack, responsible Alpha! Maddox had always wanted Katrina, he watched her whenever she was in town. One the packs kinda shared. He knows he can't have her, she's from the other pack. His pack/family is THE most important to him.
Katrina is a brat, strong wolf. Her dad the Alpha was killed by the new Alpha, who doesn't hold a candle to her dad. Her mom unfortunately, married the new Alpha & was all about prestige. So Katrina acted out. Though she didn't know that they weren't welcome in town anymore. Before she knew it, she'd been captured & was being held by Maddox's pack.
This has a different twist of a self righteous, power hungry Alpha. I think you'll enjoy the read. I did!!
3.5 stars mediocre imo i got the tension, building romance… just felt way too far fetched marilyn monroe dystopian levels of clueless for my taste. the female lead seemed like she aint know whats goin on outside - what?? like people hate my stepdad? my stepbrothers are jerks? no way!! also her: omg my moms such a pushover bitch and he only acts nice when he’s around…ten minutes later— stepdad monologues like i never even liked that bitch janet she is useless and cant spawn the male children im not bothering with this bullshit
ITS FUCKIN INCONSISTENT
i had to reach deep inside to not care and ignore those elements but the more i think about it the more mad i am. ok 2.5 stars is my final verdict.
This was very meh. The romance between Maddox and Katrina moved very fast from a kind of enemy to lovers, but I suppose it is a short book. I partially guessed the plot. I thought Lulu was the red herring and Teresa was the mole, so it was a surprising twist that it was both. I feel as though the Gopher aspect wasn't explored enough. Roman went from a run of the mill arsehole and bully to a full blown psychopath. This effected my view of Katrina- a strong woman with the ability to sense emotions and she's still defending Roman for a lot of the book. He totally wouldn't do what Maddox's pack say he did, except when he murdered her Dad to get the pack and marry her mother. The accusations are totally out of character. It just made her come across as quite dim.
3.5 stars. Okay but forgettable. Enjoyable enough read but too many needless deaths. Heather’s father and Michael for starters, then some who should be dead aren’t. Not quite sure how Katrina was quite so oblivious to what was going on in her pack with her stepfather. Yes she is sweet and tough but how she could be a good alpha female if she is so obtuse amazes me. Maddox was a good alpha, the welfare of his pack was everything. Wraps up very quickly. Needed better proofreading, through instead of threw. Read and reviewed years ago but review is missing. Really didn’t remember this one.
Not my favorite in the series, but still OK. I did like the strong female character, but somehow it doesn't seems to hang together with how she is blind to everything around her. Added to that, the completely over-stereotypical bad parents/step-parents, and I'm just hanging by a thread. But the story progressed ok, and I wanted to have it all if there was the need to know anything for the last book. It happens it does, as the last couple in this series is introduced here along with their dynamics...
This is book five this is kind of A little bit completely different it has two different packs even though the one pack you do see a little bit from The Timber Valley Um Pop in Which is a little fun Um but this has a total different underlining story and It's a good story I did enjoy it Maxine does a really great job with the kid voices in this and the adult forces the female and the male I mean she is just a whole cast and is so phenomenal at the whole cast so if you enjoy vaccine you will enjoy this just because she does such a phenomenal job
Short, rushed relationship and plot, very formulaic but it was good. I am not a fan of this kind of werewolf so I wont be continuing but if you like this kind of story you will enjoy it. The story is really short so if you want a quick read or pick me up this will do well. My biggest complaint is that the plot was all based on people not communicating with the FL, literally if anyone had one conversation with her the entire plot would have been foiled in the first chapter.
WOW! What an excellent plot. The characters are interesting, well written and developed. So much is going on in this novel but it all fits together and has a HEA for Maddox and Katrina. This story has romance, action, adventure, and intrigue. A very good 👍 story that will keep the reader's attention and interest.
This book is very well written with the storyline being easy to visualize. Maddox is an Alpha that any pack would be proud to have. He is true to his pack and those he loves 100%. 🌟🌟🌟
I really enjoyed this well written book. The storyline was fast paced and really had quite a bit of intriguing happenings. The characters were likeable and interesting. I loved the audio option!
3.5 stars This was cute, sweet, fast and similar to the others. For some reason I kept visualizing them as almost teenagers. Hard to think of a baby as an Alpha. Once you really start to get into it the story ends :(
Short, sweet, and lovely. I listened to this on audiobook which made this less enjoyable. It wasn't the narrator's fault per se but I didn't enjoy her intonation and characterizations. The cliamx of the book should have taken a bit more explanation but not a bad little story.
This book is slightly different from the ones before it, we not in the timber valley for this one but it's no less exciting, as we follow Katrina story to find her mate and figure out what is going on in town. I lover he sass andOk take no shit attitude and I'm sure you'll love her too.
Taken by the alpha by Georgette St clair. Katrina and Maddox love hard and want to take care and protect what is special to them. But can they put aside old prejudices to get it done. Omg so good. And when her stepdad loses. It was a whoop whoop moment
