B.O.S.S.: Blood of the Stone Sovereigns

Rate this book
She wears the crown in silence.
They call it peace.
She knows it’s a test.

For years, Chanti has ruled with precision and restraint, her authority unquestioned within the hidden supernatural world she protects... one bound by ancient laws, ancestral power, and blood-sealed alliances. But when tradition demands a binding meant to secure the future, masks are raised, wings are folded, and rival paranormal houses are forced into uneasy union.

Beneath polished rituals and carefully chosen words, something darker stirs.

Desire collides with duty.
Loyalty fractures under scrutiny.
And not every supernatural bond is meant to endure.

Supported by sisters who command spellwork, strategy, and shadow, Chanti steps into a ceremony where nothing is symbolic, everything is enforceable, and power is more than political—it is bloodbound.

Because in this world of ancient creatures, enforced unions, and dangerous desire, love is optional.
Obedience is expected.
And power is never given... it is taken.

The Stone Sovereign is watching.

Vera T. Brown writes women the storm cannot break.

A Southern Black author and Navy veteran, she creates paranormal romance carved from lightning and legacy—stories where ancient bloodlines resurface, celestial systems fracture, and love is both weapon and salvation.

Her books move between mythic intensity and sensual darkness, centering women who survive the fire and choose power on their own terms.

She builds worlds where storms remember, blood answers, and fate is never gentle.

This story feels like stepping into a supernatural court where every ritual is a negotiation and every choice carries centuries of weight. Vera T. Brown builds a world that’s lush, political, and quietly dangerous, and I was hooked from the first chapter.

Chanti is the kind of ruler I love to follow — steady, sharp, and carrying a crown that demands more than anyone should have to give. The tension between duty and desire is woven so intentionally that you feel it in every scene. The rituals aren’t just pretty worldbuilding; they’re binding, high‑stakes, and full of consequences. And the sisterhood around her? Powerful, loyal, layered. I loved every moment with them.

The Stone Sovereign watching over everything adds this delicious sense of dread, like something ancient is always breathing down your neck. It gives the whole book this simmering, slow‑burn danger that makes the political intrigue even richer.

And listen… I pre‑ordered this book because I’ve read Vera T. Brown before, but now I’m fully addicted. There’s something about the way she writes — intentional, atmospheric, sensual without ever losing the plot — that just locks you in.

Overall, this feels like the opening move in a much bigger supernatural chess match. It’s intimate, high‑stakes, and beautifully crafted. If you love paranormal romance with political teeth, ritual‑heavy worldbuilding, and heroines who rule with quiet fire, this one belongs on your list.

BOSS (often interpreted as Blood of Sovereign Stone) is a fast-paced fantasy novella that quickly establishes itself as a true page-turner. From the opening chapters, the story pulls you into a richly populated world where power, legacy, and desire quietly shape every interaction.
One of the book’s strongest elements is its use of supernatural beings. Fans of Djinn and elves will find plenty to enjoy, along with some refreshing surprises. The inclusion of gargoyles, in particular, adds a unique flavor rarely seen in fantasy fiction and helps distinguish this story from more familiar genre paths.
The magic system feels deliberately fluid rather than rigid. Characters don’t fit neatly into expected archetypes, which makes their abilities feel more organic and tied to who they are rather than what “class” they might belong to. This is especially true for Kael, an arcane user whose blend of abilities makes him both intriguing and memorable.
The fae realm itself is diverse and textured, and the author thoughtfully incorporates modern, human elements into the narrative. These touches help ground the story emotionally, giving readers an easy point of connection even as the plot explores ancient bloodlines and supernatural forces.
While BOSS contains detailed adult scenes, they serve a larger purpose beyond sensuality. They highlight vulnerability, intimacy, and the ways power and desire intersect, reinforcing the novel’s mature tone.
At its heart, the story raises compelling questions about inheritance, control, and the cost of power. Motivations are often left intentionally ambiguous, encouraging readers to question why certain characters act as they do and what they truly stand to gain or lose. By the end, the novel leaves you curious rather than confused, eager to understand more about the forces at play and where the story is headed next.
Overall, BOSS is a quick, engaging read with strong worldbuilding, memorable characters, and enough mystery to linger in your thoughts well after the final page.

I'm bossy
I'm the first girl to scream on a track
I switched up the beat of the drum
That's right,
I brought all the boys to the yard
And that's right,
I'm the one that's tattooed on his arm
I'm bossy
I'm the bitch y'all love to hate
I'm the chick that's raisin' stakes
I told Young Stunna he should switch to BAPE's
I'm back with an 808
'Cause I'm bossy

(Bossy x Kelis)
This was a 'Novella Tuesday' pick.
What a freakin' book! I loved this entire book from start to finish. This is paranormal don't Vera's way and I ate it up!!!! somebody tell Cael I might need that Eli too I mean why choose 🤭 No, but for real this book had everything you'd need for a full story. I couldn't even tell it was a Novella. I am so ready to read more from Vera, more from these characters! These books be having me by the hijab no letting up. The spice was *chef's kiss* and the fight scenes and sequences were equally as good. I loved the dynamic between the sisters and potential mates/fated mates. I also appreciated the fact that like is said before this was done her way. These sister's ain't NOTHIN' to f*** with! Vera took time to do research and create a story that was well versed, informative, entertaining, and spectacularly written. I cannot wait for more!

This Book Was A Delightful Treat

All I had heard about this book previous to reading it was that it was a gargoyle novella. This is my first Vera T Brown book and I went in without reading reviews, blurbs, or synopsis. I'm so glad I did. This book was delicious. It has just the right amount of angst, suspense, and spice. The plot unfolds around three sisters in charge of their gargoyle clan and they are in the midst of preparing for binding with a vampire clan. The action was vividly portrayed and just enough to bring it all home, IMO. B.O.S.S. definitely held my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat. The bond between the sisters was one of love, duty, and fun all equally expressed. I ate this up and will definitely be reading more by this author.

Enjoyed it

Quick read. I liked the fantasy world that was created. The sisters were tight knit and all strong & dominant. Each had their own strength that helped solve the mystery of what happened to their parents. I loved the action and how some found their fates along the way.

Loveddddddd this novella. I stray from novellas because they usually have no plot or in-depth characters but this one has both! As 1/3 of sisters I loved the bond between the characters. This book is spicy, funny, and very entertaining. The paranormal aspects which starts from page one to the end are very easy to follow and I feel lucky it was my first one. Excellent job, Vera!

I devoured this book in a day- This book delivers fantasy where peace is merely a test of control. I enjoyed reading this book especially the bond the sisters has and how they look out for each other. The Blood of the Stone Sovereign is a powerful, slow-burn fantasy that blends ancient magic, tension and forbidden desire into a story that both feels fierce and haunting. The world-building was easy to picture and follow where the ancient laws, blood-sealed alliances and rival paranormal houses each step Chanti takes there are consequences.
Each sister brings their own form of power and together they form a circle of loyalty that feels unbreakable.
if you love:
- powerful FMCS
-Forced Alliances
-Supernatural politics
-slow-burn tension

I recommend giving this book a read <3

This was my first paranormal fantasy book and I must say it was pretty good. I had been afraid to read this genre Vera T. Brown made it painless for me. I loved the strong women in the story...and sisters/family too! And who says a book has to be 400+ pages to be a great book? Vera proves that's not necessary! Happy Reading!
