I was hired as legal counsel for a billion-dollar firm, and the rules were very clear, never bring my personal life to work.
But this morning, as I stepped off the elevator, I saw my ex-boyfriend standing in the lobby, holding flowers and pretending like he didn't do what he did.
I turned around fast and headed straight towards the executive wing, my heels loud on the marble floor.
When I reached the corner office, my billionaire boss looked up from his desk, his eyes locked on mine like he already knew.
He stood slowly, came around the desk, and took the file from my hand without even reading it.
Then he brushed my hair behind my ear and growled,
“If he came here for you, then he just made a big mistake.”
I think this is a new author. I'm actually impressed if this is her first book. It's repetitive but a lot of authors are. Definitely in need of editors. My only issue is the FMC literally cries over her ex and then immediately is hopeful about the MMC liking her. We need to know more about her relationship with her ex other than he cheated because they were about to be married. Getting over him that quickly isn't realistic. We learn later that he was emotionally abusive and manipulative. I'm slightly bored. I'm a fan of short books if done right but I feel like we're not getting much from the characters
"The restraining order says he can't contact me directly, but he's found a loophole using someone else's phone" He sent a text and signed his name lol that's not a loophole, that's a violation
To be honest I wasn't that impressed with this one. It started off good but as I kept on reading I enjoyed it less and less. The reasons I felt this way is the characters are all just too perfect and sweet. His daughter, he's a widower is six and I kept thinking she is behaving way to old for someone that age. And once you start noticing things like that it becomes too obvious. Both the hero and heroine are too perfect. The heroine lets her boss walk all over her and take advantage and the hero was too perfect. Plus this is a closed door romance and I like some spice. I didn't feel the connection between the two main characters, the longing and attraction that is so important. I know for sure I won't be reading this one again.
Beautiful story but editing at the start spoilt it for me.
Story wise, I loved it. It was a beautiful story about growth, integrity, love and friendship. It made me happy. However, finding time line mistakes on page 3, from going in in the morning, to immediately finding her ex there, making reference to autumn sunlight coming through, to it then being how she worked all morning, is just not a good start to a book. I’m not sure how that managed to slip through the editing, but it nearly caused me to stop reading there and then. A book can be the best book in the world, but if there are mistakes at 4% in, it concerns me.
The love story of Attorney Avery & CEO Dylan comes about slowly at first. Avery’s very recent broken engagement & Dylan’s past broken engagement add to their complicated possible relationship. Avery’s Ex poses a threat to her & Dylan intervenes. Work place issues all add to the complex relationship. Avery has much soul searching to become comfortable with herself before committing to a relationship with Dylan. And he is very patient. In the end a great love story of two people who come back from broken relationships.

The rating is for the length alone, granted it was good but just fast paced in the little novella. I loved how Dylan was just all in and let her go at her own pace and find herself. And I love how she found herself and it just helped them. Such a cute quick read
Good book. Last part had me crying there. It showed emotion, and depth, and trust. The author did a great job and showing what love, looks, feels and should be like when it’s pure and true.
