There may be no rest for the wicked—but this is something else. With Orion missing, malicious creatures are growing bolder, daring to poach in the Hunter's territory. And at the center of it all stands Death himself with a problem he can't solve alone.
Someone is stealing souls.
The Death Treaty hangs in the balance. Matt’s sanity is fraying at the edges, and somehow the IRS has decided he owes seven million dollars in unpaid taxes. As the walls close in from every direction, Matt is running out of options (and out of time,) before his Sleep Debt gets out of hand.
Don't miss the newest installment from Andrew Givler, bestselling author of Soul Fraud & Ironbound. This hilarious and action-packed Urban Fantasy is perfect for fans of the Dresden Files, Iron Druid, and Eric Carter!
Andrew is the author of the Debt Collection and Ironbound series and also a gaming YouTuber known as Sigils. He loves making people laugh, video games, and food. (Not always in that order.) He lives in LA.
This series has been the most fun I have had reading all year. Excellent characters, witty dialogue, and an ever expanding world full of twists and turns. I can't wait for the next book and anything else this man writes.
It was fine, similar to previous books, this was a good, fast paced time.
The action scenes were a lot of fun but it also felt very much like the book just hopped from plot point to plot point. Doesn't feel like a lot of depth but the creative use of the magic powers in action scenes was engaging and I really liked that.
Though, some of the main conflicts of the book were wrapped up in a very, not quite deus ex machina factor. More like they were wrapped up in an underwhelming way and by the time the book got around to that I had a, "oh yeah, that was an issue, wasn't it?" reaction.
Like the conflict around . Which has a chance to be a good future plot hook but it just felt anti climactic. Or the issue with was wrapped up with basically a . It never felt like a real issue, it was never really a focus of Carver's goals and it felt like it was there for the way that conflict could impact other larger impacts in the story.
So, a good time overall but nothing I'm too awed by.
The good bits are great, but the O.K. parts are awful?
awful might be a bit strong, but deathly dull 110%...this normally cycles around Dawn, Ash, Megan. Our girl writing is MUNDANE and brutal. It is the same problem on repeat, none of them are particularly likable (Megan kind of? but shes mostly background with a hint of Mary Sue)
This series is shaping up to be one of the really best urban fantasy series of the last few years, though calling it an urban fantasy is really underselling it. It spends as much time in LA as it does in other exotic fantastical realms even as Matt Carver finds himself facing the consequences of all of his actions from previous books. Matt has a lot of balance, not least the fact that the IRS is after him for unpaid taxes. In light of everything and everyone gunning after him, this seems light but it sets up interesting complications for Matt
Matt also finds himself facing multiple threads while not being able to sleep, having pissed off a Sleep God (hence Sleep Debt). He has multiple missions to juggle, while faced with his own Impossible Tasks and the matter of missing souls - and there are faces from his past that have designs on him
This is truly entertaining and while it does feel like Matt has a lot to juggle, it just manages to balance out from being truly overwhelming. The lightness through the humor quotient and Matt's camarederie with his friend and partner in crime, Alex keeps things moving briskly. The book closes some of the long running threads while setting up some new seeds for the future. I love how a series plots itself for the long run and the Debt Collection series is definitely setting things up for the long run. Fantastic and Fun
I know these book might not be for everyone, but Andrew if you’re reading this, I just want you to know some things. I literally cried at the end of the book because I realized I was going to have to wait such a long time till the next one. When I saw this book was coming out about a month ago, I reread most of the book in this series until I was so excited that I spent the first day it came out just reading it and missing school. I wish I could just dive into these books. Your works are so good and I tell everyone who talks to me about books about them. These books have had such a big impact on my life that I’ve started to realize how much you characters have changed little things in my personality. For example, I have always been a bit of a smartass buts it’s dialed up to Matt’s level sometimes, especially when adults think they can treat the younger generation like shit because they are adults. I’ve also began reading all these old stories that your characters have to fight, trying to become educated so I understand what might be a problem in the books. Overall I just want to say thank you for making these books. This is my favorite series ever and if I ever have kids someday I’m going to force them to read it too. Please keep up the work! And idk if this is gonna say John Aylworth but the reviews from Emma Aylworth.
“We are not “polluting” the dark. We are defying it. The empty sky is a sign of the human race throwing back the endless night. Our ancestors cowered in their caves and huts, hiding from predators and terrors. Now we walk in it, unafraid.”
This one picks up right where the last one left off and never drags. The world around Matt is somehow expanding but also shrinking at the same time. Worlds are being devoured. Souls are being stolen, and the only Hunters around to stop it are a pretty boy 250 year old kind of demon and an awkward kid from Los Angeles who now has more than one super power.
This was a riot, but it does feel like we are racing toward a finish line in this series, which is bitter sweet.
Been having my eye on this series for a while and finally decided to jump right in and I’m glad I did. If you think your life is terrible just look at Matt’s and he’ll have you beat. Ngl if you enjoy your protagonist always winning this isn’t it lol. Honestly, he takes too many Ls for my taste but somehow it’s makes his wins more satisfying.
The last two books have been anxiety inducing for me because I’m constantly wondering how the hell (pun intended) is Matt gonna survive this. The ending of sleep debt low-key broke me he didn’t deserve that and I pray he gets his lick back against the bastard 😭. The stakes are really getting higher and Matt really hitting his breaking point.
I can't wait to have Orion back again next book but he is gonna be so annoying and refuse to leave the prison until he hears of matts duel.
So after a prison break how is Orion going to be allowed to fight and not hunted down ?? And what happened to the earth fae princess she didn't make an appearance??
So we know matt and Orion will be 2 out of three but who will the last one be Alex, Kane, Azzazel, Dawn ?

I love how matthew handles all the powers he accumulates
I love seeing matthew balance his fae powers and deaths cold judgement and azreals Immortal killing blade. Even seeing him get better at understanding the traps that are laid in front of him because of him dealing with the fae companions he has so often is so incredible. The deals hes making are setting many lines in motion that i cant wait to see. As always thanks for the amazing book
This book was so good, like holy crap. I especially liked the way Matt uses both Willow and Death's Authority to intimidate and fight the people he needs to fight. There's also so much more world-building compared to even Death Tax and Star Summit. Best Book in Debt Collection by far. Can't wait for book 6 (Present Day)!
Another book in the series that I absolutely loved. There wasn't as many plot twists as some of the earlier ones, but that did not make it any less interesting. I loved the continued development of Matthew, and the teases of Orion coming back. The book left of on another successful closing of the story from this book, but leaves you cliff hanging for the continuation of the story.

These books remind me of Jim Butcher's stories. The hero is beset by multiple impossible situations at once. Somehow he survives one and two more hit. Read these books. They are fun!
This series is still proving to be good. I am actually surprised this author is not topping some charts. All in all the series has proven to be one of my current favorites on here.
This keeps getting better and better. You’d never expect a YouTuber to craft a series like this but this is maybe the best modern setting urban fantasy I’ve ever read.
This book took Matt to a whole new level giving us plenty to eat and setting up even more for the future! I honestly wish the next book was already out because I need more 😂
