I remember reading 'The Book of Spells' as a teen just getting in to wicca, and when I saw this going cheap I thought, hey, might be nice to put this in the collection - maybe even get a few ideas.

Sadly it's a bit generic and a bit all over the place - a surprising number of Native American 'spells' - which I wouldn't use, as I'm not from that ancestry and, I imagine, neither are a great number of the readers of this book. There's a mishmash of Egyptian, First Nation and 'African' magic, as well as some European magic more rooted in wicca, but also drawing on Christian saints and basically anything else the author came across.

Doesn't really back up a lot of what it says, there are lots of 'druids did this' and 'it is said that' but no specific reasons why that was, or who believed this in what context.

I feel mislead by my own nostalgia. Though a handful of the spells gave me ideas for future work, I found most to be a bit wishy washy and was hard pressed to see what they would achieve.

A pretty book on the outside but inside? A tiny amount of knowledge padded out with claptrap. No wonder the blurb says it's for 'serious amateurs' ! I wouldn't even recommend this to beginners - it's too all over the shop.

Kokia tai reta knyga man sunku apsakyti.

Simple and interesting book. I read the Finnish translation "Taikojen ja loitsujen kirja" (WSOY 2002). Some of the spells were nice and easy enough to try someday. The layout was a little childish but it gave me an inspiration to make my own book of spells just for fun, following this books layout. Maybe someday :D They were at least trying to make the book look as self-made. Maybe it would have been even more interesting with little accessories. But then, it would have been even more childish :D And in a way, it was a little bit disappointing that the book looked so childish. I just couldn't take it serious. But on the other hand it was very entertaining.

Totally beautiful hardcover book with parchment-y paper and vintage illustrations that will make you excited to delve into the world of spells. The first part of the book is most valuable, as it addresses some elements--such as herbs, crystals, and colors--that can add significance to your spells. The spell recipes in the book pull from all different origins and are short and doable, although not particularly exciting. Some may find the spells too few in number. I personally found the topic range of spells not broad enough.

I have the vintage edition which I bought preloved and it is an absolutely beautiful book! Gorgeous illustrations that I could spend hours alone just staring at. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much history and explanation of the origins of the spells there is throughout the book. The spells themselves are a nice collection and perfect for me as an introduction to wicca. I also found the sealed spells super exciting. One of my favourite book purchases in a while 🖤

This book was a cute, if not gimmicky, introduction to the world of herbs, spells, and magic for those who believe in it. Some of the information in this book was actually quite helpful and worthwhile to read, though it was obvious most was just fluff added in order to sell more books. I wouldn't put too much faith into any of the spells but the book itself was enjoyable to read and gain information from.

This is a good book for beginners, it covers the three most common forms of magic, elemental planetery and zodiac, and is easy to follow. The ingredients are all readily available and will be familiar to most people. A inspirational starting point.

A little gem of a book. I love it. Even if you never try any of the recipe spells, it is fun to read. Has other info on magic numbers, colors, trees , plants etc.Magic signs and symbols . A fun book.

Does any of this actually work? The gemstones for the months were all wrong?

I was given this book by a friend. It is not a book I would typically pick up, because I like writing and working my own spells for witchcraft, however I was pleasantly surprised by the spells in the book. I especially loved the art and down to earth approach the writer took to her spells. The images throughout the book, both the photographs and the drawn art are simply lovely. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something quick to read or is looking for a little inspiration on their own witchy journey.

To be or not to be, that isn't the question, but actually it is. Who cares? It's medieval, like spells. Oh no, it's from the Tudor times.

Reading about numbers, colours, stones, plants, and lucky charms is fun.
Not drawn to do any of the spells, but it was interesting to read about them.

Read this for the Dewey Project's 100s. http://deweyproject.tumblr.com/

Holding off on giving it a rating until I can try out one or two spells.

Later... did the Shoon Lore spell which is for money. I did end up finding a twenty on the ground a few days later so I am declaring it a small success.
