I really enjoyed this book, but the character who stood out the most for me was Larinae. She isn't loud or over the top, yet every time she appeared she seemed to have a real impact on the story. I liked how she challenged Regasi without trying to change who he was overnight, and their relationship felt natural instead of forced. Watching the two of them slowly influence each other ended up being one of my favourite parts of the book.
The rest of the cast is just as enjoyable, with each character following their own path and dealing with very different problems. Fanum brought plenty of humour with his constant complaining, Ceonis had one of the more interesting storylines as he started questioning everything he'd been taught, and Cydrae's time at the university added another layer of mystery to the world. It never felt like any of the storylines were there just to fill pages because they all added something important.
The world itself is full of political intrigue, ancient secrets, brutal sword fights, terrifying creatures, and enough mystery to keep you guessing right until the end. I also liked that the author doesn't explain everything straight away, which made discovering the world much more enjoyable. By the time I finished the last chapter, I was already looking forward to seeing where Larinae's story would go next.

En general, me ha parecido una novela de fantasía muy completa. Tiene acción, magia, conspiraciones, criaturas aterradoras, batallas bastante brutales y un mundo que poco a poco se va haciendo cada vez más grande. Me gustó que el autor no intentara explicarlo todo desde el principio, sino que fuera descubriendo la historia junto con los protagonistas. Además, el ritmo es muy bueno y siempre está ocurriendo algo que hace que quieras leer un capítulo más.
Lo que más me llamó la atención fue la historia de Ceonis. Empieza siendo un monje totalmente convencido de que está luchando por una buena causa y de que todo lo que le han enseñado es cierto. Me gustó que no fuera el típico personaje que cambia de opinión de un momento para otro, sino que sus dudas aparecen poco a poco conforme va viviendo experiencias que no encajan con todo lo que siempre había creído.
Creo que su evolución está muy bien llevada porque se nota que cada decisión le cuesta. A medida que avanza la historia va descubriendo que el mundo es mucho más complejo de lo que imaginaba y que quizá las personas en las que más confiaba no le habían contado toda la verdad. Eso hizo que siempre tuviera ganas de volver a sus capítulos para ver cuál sería el siguiente paso en su camino.
El final me dejó con muchísima curiosidad por saber qué ocurrirá con Ceonis en los siguientes libros. Da la sensación de que su historia todavía tiene mucho recorrido y de que las respuestas que está buscando pueden acabar siendo importantes para toda la saga. Si sigue evolucionando al mismo nivel que en este primer libro, creo que puede convertirse fácilmente en uno de mis personajes favoritos.

T The entire book feels like a prologue, but it has potential if the next instalment improves. There were too many perspectives, plots, and dramatic elements that felt random and unrealistic. The foreshadowing was also on the nose. I understand book one sets the stage, but there were too many threads without a clear direction. Perhaps the next book can delve deeper into the lore and context. On the positive side, each of the multiple plots could be expanded into its own story. I’ll be eagerly waiting for book two.

This review is based on an ARC I received from the author and there are some "spoilers" herein.
This story is a fantasy adventure focusing on several young characters whose lives revolve around protecting or searching for "Orbs". Initially, it took a bit of time to keep track of each person. Each chapter focused on a different character and each character had a connection to one of the 7 Orbs except for Cydrae. The character of Cydrae did not really fit with the others and could have been in a different book as her storyline involved studying at the university and did not include an orb. I enjoy stories where the various characters' storylines intersect, and there was some meeting of characters in the latter part of the novel.
There was a lot of action in this story and an interesting magic system. I was left wanting more information about how this world came into being. How did the Black Hand and Rad al dowse start? What was the Purge? What was the Incident? There were some typographical errors, but they did not detract from the narrative. It would be helpful to have a map of the various cities, abbeys, and monasteries. This book would be appropriate for YA readers as there is no explicit sexual content and just some "rough" language. I look forward to reading the next instalment.

La verdad es que empecé este libro sin saber demasiado de él. Había leído el blurb y me llamó la atención porque parecía tener de todo: guerras, magia, conspiraciones y un montón de personajes. Aun así pensé que sería la típica historia de fantasía de siempre. Me equivoqué bastante.
Lo primero que me enganchó fue que desde el principio da la sensación de que el mundo ya llevaba siglos funcionando antes de que empezara la novela. Todo tiene historia. Hay reinos, religiones, leyendas y un montón de cosas que se notan importantes aunque todavía no las entiendas del todo.
Me gustó mucho que el autor no lo explique todo de golpe. Vas aprendiendo cómo funciona el mundo según avanzan los personajes y eso hace que descubrir cosas sea parte de la gracia. Nunca sentí que estuviera leyendo páginas y páginas solo de información.
Otra cosa que me flipó es que cada trama tiene un estilo distinto. Cuando cambiaba de personaje no pensaba "qué pereza", sino todo lo contrario. Siempre quería saber cómo iba a salir del lío en el que se había metido cada uno.
La historia de Fanum fue de las que más disfruté. La situación en la que termina metido no tiene nada que ver con lo que esperaba al principio y eso hizo que sus capítulos me engancharan muchísimo. Hay momentos bastante tensos, pero también otros que rebajan un poco el ambiente y hacen que la historia respire.
También me gustó bastante Regasi. Al principio parece que tiene clarísimo lo que quiere hacer con su vida, pero las cosas empiezan a complicarse más de lo que esperaba. Me pareció interesante verlo reaccionar cuando ya no puede resolverlo todo de la forma que tenía pensada.
Y hablando de eso, Larinae me acabó cayendo mejor de lo que imaginaba. No aparece solo para acompañar a otro personaje, sino que tiene personalidad y consigue que varias escenas funcionen todavía mejor. Cada vez que salía tenía ganas de seguir leyendo para ver cómo evolucionaba su historia.
La trama de Ceonis también me dejó con bastante curiosidad. Todo lo relacionado con la abadía y con las cosas que empieza a descubrir me hizo sospechar que detrás de esa historia hay mucho más de lo que parece. Es de esas partes que hacen que no pares de montar teorías.
La Universidad también me pareció bastante guay. Pensaba que sería el típico sitio donde enseñan magia y poco más, pero acaba escondiendo bastantes secretos. Cada vez que la historia volvía allí pasaba algo que me dejaba con ganas de seguir.
Una cosa que agradecí es que el libro no intenta meter una pelea cada dos capítulos para mantener el interés. Cuando hay acción está muy bien escrita, pero también hay bastantes momentos donde todo consiste en hablar, investigar o descubrir cosas, y aun así no se hace pesado.
Además, hay un montón de pequeños detalles que al principio parecen no tener importancia y luego vuelven a aparecer mucho más adelante. Me gusta cuando un libro hace eso porque da la sensación de que todo está pensado desde el principio.
El humor también me sorprendió. No esperaba encontrar comentarios que me sacaran alguna risa en una historia con un ambiente tan serio, pero creo que está bastante bien equilibrado. Hace que los personajes se sientan más naturales y que la novela no sea todo el rato oscuridad.
El final fue de esos que te dejan mirando el libro unos segundos cuando lo cierras. No porque termine con un giro gigante sin más, sino porque de repente te das cuenta de que muchas cosas solo acaban de empezar y que todavía queda muchísimo por descubrir.
Ahora entiendo por qué la gente que lo había leído decía que el primer libro solo era el comienzo. Termina de una forma que responde varias preguntas, pero abre otras muchas más. En ningún momento sentí que fuera un final incompleto; simplemente deja claro que la historia va a crecer muchísimo.

Tiene acción, misterio, personajes que acaban importándote más de lo que esperabas y un mundo que da la sensación de esconder secretos por todas partes. Si tengo que quedarme con una cosa del libro, es con Fanum y Naeli. En serio, no esperaba que esa pareja funcionara tan bien. Fanum está todo el rato de mala leche, protestando por absolutamente todo y con cara de querer mandar a la mierda al primero que se le acerque. Y luego aparece Naeli, que parece incapaz de estarse callado cinco minutos y siempre sale con alguna tontería justo cuando menos toca. Cada vez que compartían capítulo pensaba: "A ver con qué sale ahora este chaval". Me he reído bastante más de lo que esperaba.
Lo mejor es que al principio parece imposible que puedan llevarse medio bien. De hecho, da la sensación de que Fanum aguanta a Naeli porque no le queda otra. Pero conforme van pasando por todas las putadas que les toca vivir, la relación cambia sin que apenas te des cuenta. No es la típica amistad que aparece porque sí, sino que se va formando poco a poco y acaba resultando super natural. Al final terminé con ganas de que volvieran a salir ellos cada vez que cambiaba el punto de vista.
Y ese final... buf. De verdad que no me lo vi venir. Pensaba que su historia iba por un sitio completamente distinto y, de repente, pasa algo que me dejó con cara de idiota delante del libro. Hacía tiempo que un final no me sorprendía tanto. En cuanto acabé el capítulo me quedé pensando: "Vale... ¿y ahora qué narices va a pasar?". Necesito el segundo libro solo por saber cómo sigue lo suyo.
Otra cosa que me gustó mucho es que el humor nunca parece metido con calzador. Hay momentos bastante bestias, con gente muriendo, bichos bastante chungos y situaciones muy jodidas, pero aun así siempre aparece algún comentario que te saca una sonrisa. Creo que eso hace que los personajes se sientan más reales y que la novela tenga mucha personalidad.
Regasi también me moló bastante. Al principio pensaba que iba a ser el típico guerrero que solo sabe resolverlo todo a espadazos, pero luego va demostrando que tiene bastante más fondo del que parecía. Me gustó que cambiara poco a poco y no porque de repente alguien le diera un discurso y ya está.
La historia de Larinae también me pareció muy buena. No está ahí solo porque sí, sino que realmente influye en lo que hace Regasi y en cómo empieza a ver algunas cosas. Además, las escenas entre los dos se leen muy agusto y nunca me dio la sensación de que frenaran el ritmo.
Con Ceonis me pasó una cosa curiosa. Al principio era la trama que menos me llamaba y al final acabó siendo de las que más curiosidad me daban. Empiezas viendo a un tio que cree a pies juntillas todo lo que le han enseñado y, poco a poco, ves cómo se le empieza a desmontar todo. Me dejó con bastantes ganas de saber por dónde va a tirar.
La parte de Cydrae también está muy guay. Todo lo relacionado con la Universidad tiene un aire bastante misterioso y siempre parece que hay algo raro pasando. Cada vez que descubrían una cosa nueva aparecían dos preguntas más, y eso hizo que nunca perdiera el interés.
El mundo también me pareció una pasada. No porque te suelten veinte páginas explicando reinos y fechas, sino porque lo vas conociendo mientras pasan cosas. A mí ese tipo de fantasía me gusta mucho más porque no tengo que estar memorizando un monton de nombres desde el principio.
Los combates están muy bien escritos. Son fáciles de seguir y nunca tuve esa sensación de no enterarme de quién estaba haciendo qué. Además, no aparecen porque sí, casi siempre tienen consecuencias y hacen que los personajes cambien de alguna manera.
También me gustó que ninguno de los protagonistas pareciera perfecto. Todos meten la pata, toman decisiones bastante discutibles o se dejan llevar por sus emociones. Eso hace que sea mucho más facil empatizar con ellos, incluso cuando hacen cosas que no compartes.
En general me lo he pasado genial leyéndolo. Tiene acción, humor, personajes que se quedan en la cabeza y un montón de misterios que me dejaron con ganas de seguir. Ojalá el segundo mantenga este nivel, porque despues de ese final necesito saber cómo continúa la historia.

No recuerdo la última vez que terminé un libro de fantasía con tantas teorías en la cabeza. Normalmente cuando acabo una novela suelo tener bastante claro qué ha pasado y hacia dónde va la historia. Aquí fue justo al revés. Cerré el libro y empecé a darle vueltas a un montón de detalles que al principio parecían poca cosa, pero que al final da la impresión de que esconden algo mucho más importante.
Lo que más me gustó fue que el autor no parece tener prisa. Muchas novelas intentan impresionarte cada pocas páginas con un giro enorme. Esta no funciona así. Va construyendo poco a poco la historia y, cuando llega una revelación importante, da la sensación de que llevaba preparándose desde hacía mucho tiempo. Al final acabé prestando atención hasta a conversaciones que en otro libro habría pasado por alto.
También me pareció un acierto que el mundo tenga tantas cosas ocurriendo al mismo tiempo. Hay guerras, ciudades en peligro, criaturas bastante inquietantes, luchas por el poder y un montón de grupos que parecen perseguir objetivos distintos. Lo curioso es que nunca tuve la sensación de que fueran historias metidas porque sí. Poco a poco empiezas a ver que todas forman parte de un problema mucho más grande.

I had a great time reading this book. Right from the beginning, it throws you into a world full of war, political intrigue, ancient mysteries, terrifying creatures, and plenty of sword fights. Even though the world is quite large, I never felt lost because the story introduces new ideas at a steady pace. Every chapter gave me another reason to keep reading.
Regasi ended up being my favorite character. At first, he seems like the kind of warrior who only cares about becoming stronger and gaining more power, but there's a lot more to him than that. I liked watching him slowly question the path he'd chosen, especially after meeting Larinae. Their relationship develops naturally and adds another side to his personality without changing who he is overnight.
Ceonis was another character I really enjoyed following. He starts out completely loyal to everything he has been taught, and it was interesting to watch him slowly realize that the world might not be as simple as he believed. His storyline is full of questions, secrets, and difficult choices, and I always wanted to see what he would discover next.
Fanum brought a completely different kind of energy to the book. He's tough, foul-mouthed, and always seems to find himself in impossible situations. I especially enjoyed seeing him forced to work alongside someone he was supposed to kill. Como lectora beta, a miña impresión xeral é que a historia ten ideas interesantes e un universo ambicioso, pero a súa execución dificultou moito a miña inmersión na lectura.
A prosa resultoume excesivamente recargada e repetitiva. Hai conceptos importantes, como o orbe ou a misión do protagonista, que se reiteran constantemente nun espazo moi reducido. En lugar de reforzar as ideas, esa repetición ralentiza o ritmo e dá a sensación de que o lector precisa que lle lembren unha e outra vez información que xa ten presente.
Outro dos aspectos que máis me custou foi orientarme dentro da historia. Preséntanse numerosos elementos —o contexto político e a guerra civil da cidade, a misión principal, o propio orbe ou o que lle acontece a Fanum— sen transicións suficientemente claras nin unha xerarquía da información que axude a entender que é o importante en cada momento. Como lectora, necesitaba máis referencias de espazo e tempo: saber onde estou, quen está a narrar e por que debería conectar con ese personaxe antes de introducir novas capas do mundo.
Ademais, a novela emprega múltiples puntos de vista e salta entre distintos personaxes e escenarios con moita frecuencia. Nunha obra coral isto pode ser unha gran fortaleza, pero aquí contribuíu a aumentar a miña sensación de desorientación. Tampouco conectei coa cuberta. Evidentemente é algo moi subxectivo, pero non me parece unha boa carta de presentación para a obra. A min transmitiume unha estética anticuada e pouco atractiva, e non esperta a curiosidade nin reflicte a épica e a complexidade que a historia pretende ofrecer. De feito, a miña primeira impresión foi que a figura representada parecía máis un cura sostendo unha bóla de cristal ca a portada dunha novela de fantasía que me invitase a mergullarme no seu mundo.

I picked this book up because the premise sounded like classic epic fantasy, but it ended up feeling much bigger than I expected. Instead of following just one storyline, it gradually builds several that all seem to be connected in ways you don't fully understand at first. That made it really difficult to stop reading because every chapter felt like it was revealing another piece of a much larger puzzle.
The thing I enjoyed most was that the book never feels predictable. Just when I thought I had worked out where one storyline was heading, something happened that completely changed my expectations. It doesn't rely on shocking twists every few pages, but it keeps introducing new information that makes you rethink what you thought you knew.
The world also deserves a lot of credit. It feels ancient, with forgotten history, strange traditions, hidden organisations, and old conflicts that still affect the present. I just finished Shadowy Heavens 1: A Dark Path by Manuel Mesa, and what a fascinating read!
This is a story packed with multiple character arcs, each navigating their own intense challenges, prophecies, and paths.

I need more of their stories!
Fantastic fighting scenes paired with a sweet, low-spice romance, and some plot betrayals that I genuinely did not see coming. That ending surprised me quite a bit! Larinae, Seti, and Regasi were absolute favorites of mine. I am so invested in seeing where things go next, especially with Seti and of course Cydrae!
My honest thoughts: I’ll admit I struggled a bit early on with the constant jumps between character perspectives. However, as the book progressed, it became so much easier to follow. Every single character's story started lending something vital to the next, making the payoff in the second half incredibly rewarding.
I'm so excited to see where Book 2 takes this wild journey!

Lo que más me gustó del libro fue Regasi. Al principio parece el típico guerrero despiadado que solo piensa en hacerse más fuerte y ganar poder, pero poco a poco va mostrando muchas más dudas de las que esperaba. Me gustó que no cambiara de un día para otro, sino que su evolución fuera gradual y estuviera marcada por todo lo que le va ocurriendo durante el viaje. Además, la relación con Larinae aporta momentos muy buenos y hace que el personaje muestre una faceta que no imaginaba al principio.
Aunque el libro tiene varios protagonistas, siempre tenía ganas de volver a los capítulos de Regasi porque su historia era la que más me enganchaba. Es un personaje con mucho carácter, bastante malhumorado y capaz de hacer cosas muy brutales, pero al mismo tiempo resulta fácil entender por qué toma determinadas decisiones. Los combates también están muy bien escritos y ayudan a que su historia nunca pierda ritmo.

La verdad es que el libro me ha sorprendido bastante. Tiene todo lo que busco en una novela de fantasía: acción, magia, conspiraciones, batallas, criaturas extrañas y un mundo enorme que poco a poco va mostrando todo lo que esconde. Lo que más me gustó es que nunca tuve la sensación de estar leyendo páginas de relleno. Siempre estaba ocurriendo algo o aparecía un detalle que hacía que quisiera seguir leyendo un capítulo más.
También me pareció muy bien llevado el equilibrio entre los momentos más serios y el humor. Hay escenas bastante duras, pero de vez en cuando aparecen diálogos o situaciones que rebajan un poco la tensión sin romper el ambiente de la historia. Además, el mundo está construido de una forma muy natural. No hace falta que el autor te explique todo desde el principio, sino que vas descubriendo cómo funciona conforme avanza la novela, y creo que eso hace que resulte mucho más entretenida.
Cuando terminé el libro me dio la sensación de haber leído solo el comienzo de una historia mucho más grande. Se responden algunas preguntas, pero todavía quedan bastantes misterios abiertos y muchas cosas que quiero descubrir. Es de esas novelas que consiguen dejarte con ganas de empezar el siguiente libro nada más cerrar el primero, y eso para mí siempre es una muy buena señal.

One of the things that surprised me most about this book was how easily it kept my attention despite having several different storylines. Normally there's always one plot I'm less interested in, but that never really happened here. Every time the perspective changed, it felt like I was uncovering another piece of a much larger world. The mix of ancient history, political intrigue, dangerous expeditions, strange creatures, and hidden organisations gives the setting a real sense of depth, and I constantly had the feeling that there was far more going on than the characters themselves understood.
The storyline that fascinated me the most was everything happening at the University. Every time the story returned there, I found myself wanting to know more. Who exactly are the black-eyed beings? What role is Cydrae meant to play in everything that's happening? And what is the Guardian actually trying to achieve? Those questions stayed in the back of my mind for most of the novel, and I loved that the book didn't rush to answer them. It finishes by resolving enough to feel satisfying while leaving plenty of mysteries still waiting to be uncovered, and that's exactly the sort of ending that makes me want to pick up the next book straight away.

Like another one of these reviews, I unfortunately couldn’t bring myself to finish the book, and I only got a few chapters in. I could quickly tell that the author has a good story to tell, but I just couldn’t get past the writing style, which seemed to range from decent to I credibly awkward and unpolished. There were also some grammatical errors that, although minor, were distracting to me. While I love epic fantasy with unique magic and solid world building, the explanations of the world need to come naturally and not come across as overbearing or indulgent, which the book had moments of. I found paragraphs that could have been greatly reduced or reworded to sound more normal without losing any key information. If this book had major edits that made it clear that the author had spent serious time to improve their craft (perhaps with the aid of a skilled and unyielding editor), I would be more than willing to give it another shot. Like I said early on, I can tell that the author has a good story to tell and a world with great potential, but it wasn’t worth the effort for me to drag through the awkwardness.

Me ha sorprendido para bien. Al principio pensé que iba a ser la típica novela de fantasía medieval con magia y batallas, pero al final tiene bastante más de lo que parece. Lo que más me gustó fueron los personajes. Ninguno es perfecto y cada uno tiene su propia historia, así que siempre había algún capítulo que me apetecía leer.
Tiene bastante acción, pero tampoco es un libro donde todo sean peleas. Hay conspiraciones, misterios y momentos con bastante humor, sobre todo por algunos personajes que hablan fatal y sueltan insultos cada dos por tres. A mí eso me hizo mucha gracia porque los diálogos parecen más naturales.
También me gustó que el mundo se va descubriendo poco a poco y no te lo explican todo de golpe. Hay cosas que al principio no entiendes, pero luego van encajando. Además, el libro termina dejando muchas ganas de seguir con la historia porque todavía quedan bastantes secretos por descubrir.
Si te gusta la fantasía con espadas, magia, personajes con carácter y un mundo que poco a poco se va haciendo más grande, creo que merece mucho la pena. Yo desde luego seguiré con los siguientes.

Tiene varias historias que avanzan al mismo tiempo y al principio cuesta un poco quedarse con todos los personajes, pero en cuanto les coges el hilo ya no quieres dejar de leer. Me gustó que cada protagonista tuviera una personalidad muy distinta y que ninguno pareciera el típico héroe de fantasía. Siempre había alguna trama que me dejaba con ganas de leer un capítulo más para ver cómo continuaba.
Lo que más me convenció fue la mezcla de acción, conspiraciones, magia y misterio. Da la sensación de que detrás de todo lo que ocurre hay un plan mucho más grande que todavía no se ha desvelado del todo, y eso hace que quieras seguir con la saga. También tiene bastantes momentos de humor que alivian la tensión sin romper el tono de la historia. El final deja muchas preguntas abiertas, pero de esas que te hacen querer empezar el siguiente libro cuanto antes. Si te gusta la fantasía épica con un mundo bien construido y personajes que evolucionan de verdad, creo que merece mucho la pena.

Too many characters
First of all thank you for letting me be an arc reader. The first two chapters were good and I was getting interested in what was happening and feeling like I had a good grasp on the world and the character until more characters were introduced in the following chapters. In fact I became quite confused as to what was going on and then I realised multiple different characters had been introduced but I just really struggled to follow who they were and what they were doing. I did enjoy Cydraes story and what kind of magic lies in her and what her story might be.
Ultimately I do think there’s a good story going on here but it’s being completely drowned by so many characters and storylines happening at once I think they need to be more separate and have more time dedicated to them within the book.

This review really should be 3.5 stars but as that’s not an option, i’m rounding it up.
The story being told is interesting. The world being created is compelling. The characters are well conceived. The politics in place have a good amount of drama and the action feels big and realistic (tricky to do!).
The writing style is what sinks it for me unfortunately. Most paragraphs are followed by an internal monologue paragraph that restates the exact same things from a first person perspective. Rather than offering further insight into the characters (the regular prose tells that well), it feels like padding that isn’t needed and slows down what could be well paced scenes were they not twice as long as necessary for ultimately no reason.
The style may just not be for me, but the story deserves all the praise a first novel in a new world should have.

I picked this up because the blurb sounded interesting, but I wasn't expecting to get so invested in the story. What kept me reading wasn't just the action, but seeing how the different storylines slowly came together. Every time I thought I had worked out where things were going, something happened that changed my mind. The world feels properly lived in, with its own history, religions and politics, and you discover them naturally instead of having everything explained at once. There are some brutal moments, but also plenty of humour that stops the book from becoming too grim. By the time I reached the last few chapters I didn't want to put it down, and finishing it immediately made me want to find out what happens next. A brilliant start to what looks like a very promising series.

I had a great time reading this book. What I liked most was how the different storylines slowly came together without ever feeling forced. Regasi was probably my favorite character because he starts off as a ruthless warrior who only cares about becoming more powerful, but his journey takes him in directions I wasn't expecting. Fanum's chapters were also a lot of fun, especially after he's forced into a situation that completely turns his mission upside down. The world is full of political intrigue, ancient mysteries, sword fights, magic, and just the right amount of humor to balance out the darker moments. By the time I reached the ending, I was completely invested in the characters and wanted to find out what happened next.

This book is a fantasy book. That’s what I got from it anyways for me was kind of slow at the beginning. It took me a while to get into it but the writing style I’d liked there were a lot of twist and turns to it that I didn’t expect. I found it an entertaining Reed I am not gonna go into this spoilers or anything like that, but it was entertaining and it held my attention it really dead getting into the characters some of them I really didn’t like, and it was really kinda hard for me to identify with some of them, but the main character surprised me and he really did actually the plot in the storyline I think was done for me. well I was surprised about the orbs what I read it again sure

While this book held a lot of promise, it remained inconsistent throughout. There were moments when I was fully immersed in the story, but then something would happen to snap me out of the story. The characters were mostly the same. I struggled to remember who was with what setting, as they all seemed the same, even the two female characters. Near the end I had really lost interest in the story, but continued because I read the book on promise of a review. The characters did not build in me any sense of me caring about them. I was not invested in each of their dilemmas. I think the writer should continue writing, but perhaps get some strong support for character development.

This book was an ARC I received from the author for my honest review. This is definitely a high fantasy novel and not something I usually ready. There was lots of action and the writing style is very good. Th author knows how to show you instead of tell you. But I could not keep all the characters straight and then I lost track of what the most important thing each one was doing. One thing that would help too would be a map and glossary of all the characters, important vocabulary and magical elements for the reader to come back to when needed. If you are a fan or high fantasy with intricate plot and many characters this book is for you.

If you love the "enchanted item" trope, this book centers around powerful magical artifacts that drive the plot and shape the characters' journeys. It features a large cast of characters, meaning the story is told through multiple shifting points of view. This allows you to see the world from every angle, though it can make the narrative feel a bit scattered and hard to follow in the beginning.
However, around the halfway mark, all the different storylines start clicking into place. Suddenly, the extremely descriptive world-building and the multiple character arcs merge together!

Me ha gustado mucho el libro, pero si tengo que quedarme con algo, es con Naeli. Cada vez que aparecía sabía que iba a acabar riéndome con alguna de sus ocurrencias. Tiene una forma de hablar y de ver las cosas que contrasta muchísimo con todo lo malo que está pasando a su alrededor, y creo que eso hace que los momentos de humor funcionen muy bien sin romper el tono de la historia. Además, la relación que tiene con Fanum me pareció de lo mejor del libro, porque sus conversaciones son muy divertidas. Cuando terminé la novela y vi que Naeli iba a tener más protagonismo en el segundo libro me alegré un montón, porque me quedé con ganas de seguir leyendo más escenas suyas.

A respectable 3* from me.
I found the book initially difficult to get into. Some of the sentences seemed clunky and other parts were over explained. I found the switching between perspectives a little confusing at first as well.
That being said, after the first couple of chapters, the writing seemed to flow a lot better as if the author found his groove. I liked the characters and enjoyed that the book made you feel like nobody was safe.
The storyline seems very interesting and I would like to know more! Especially about the university and the night hunters.
