From the USA Today and international bestselling author of the Simple Wild comes a sweeping second-chance, forbidden romance set against the rugged beauty of northern Canada.
Emery McAllister once dreamed of leaving Cold River with the boy next door, but one devastating night destroyed their future and left her heart carefully guarded. Twenty years later, she’s built a life of control: running the town’s police detachment, raising her daughter, and keeping a fragile peace with her ex-husband, the mayor.
She’s certain she has moved on until the day she has dreaded—and secretly hoped for—finally arrives.
Logan Landry is home.
After two decades behind bars for being in the wrong place at the wrong time—and the choices that haunted him ever since—Logan returns to his family’s bison ranch carrying the weight of everything he lost, but especially Emery. Friendship is all he dares hope for now, but seeing her ignites a fire he thought long extinguished.
When a teenage girl disappears and old wounds reopen, Logan becomes Cold River’s favorite suspect, despite his airtight alibi. As distrust closes in, Emery must choose between the life she’s built … and the love she can’t let go.

K.A. Tucker lives outside of Toronto. When she's not writing books, you can find her reading recipes she'll never make or chasing rabbits away from her hostas.
The Simple Wild Series was one of the first reviews I wrote for Instagram and I have forced everyone I know to read it since. I was so excited to hear she was coming out with another release and I’m so happy to say it exceeded my very high expectations.

First off, as someone who did their schooling in Sudbury Ontario, I loved that northern Ontario was the backdrop of this story. Tucker has such a beautiful writing style that really brings her settings to life and I could easily close my eyes and picture the Landry farm. Her characters are also very three dimensional and I could feel their turmoil (and chemistry) come off the page.
This book has a unique aspect compared to Simple Wild and that is the element of a mystery. I thought this was also really well done and that everything was tied together and explained nicely.
As always I loved all the side characters and laughed on many occasions.
I have absolutely no notes. K.A. Tucker, you’ve done it again!
K.A. Tucker's ability to create characters and places you don't want to leave is highly tangible in North Country. It's such a beautiful book- it will break your heart over and over, while leaving you changed at the end.
I would love to come back to this setting and visit Logan and Emery. I want to see what their daily lives look like. I want to see Isla grow up. I want to see how Jon and Sarah handle their brood. I want to see Logan's cousins find their partners. More than anything, I want to see Logan and Emery thrive.
Book of life, loss, redemption - the people we love and how to make peace with all of them. She never disappoints with her beautiful stories. I will be recommending to everyone I know (and those I don't) The hardest thing about finishing her book is reading the last page and knowing it's over (best part it's on my bookshelf and I can take another ride in North Country again). A++++++++
K.A. Tucker always makes me want to crawl into the book so I can live in the setting and this ranch is no different. Romantic suspense is quickly becoming my new favorite genre. This plot combined with the characters were golden.
