Vienna's Valentine

Rate this book
It might have been a reckless decision, but I didn’t regret it.

How could I not stop for the dog running down the middle of the road, and in a blizzard, no less? He was alone, in danger, and scared—feelings I understood all too well.

Then a mysterious stranger appeared, and, despite his gruff demeanor, he insisted on helping me. A one-off meeting, I assumed, though there was a part of me that hoped I’d see him again.

Wistful fantasies, I told myself. Dreams for someone whose life hadn’t fallen to pieces. Except when I’m in trouble, Caleb’s the one who comes looking for me.

Of all people, I should know how life can change in a blink.

That’s why I moved back to Vermont, after all, after two decades in the Marines. It’s why I’ve spent the last three years convinced that being alone is better.

But when I find Vienna sleeping in her car during a dangerous snowstorm, there’s no way I can turn my back on her. Truth is, I don’t want to. Not this brave, beautiful, stubborn woman who caught my attention from the second I met her.

And it makes me think—maybe alone isn’t better. But if I want a chance to find out if there’s a future between us, I’ll have to protect Vienna when unexpected danger strikes again.

Vienna’s Valentine is a sweet and steamy novella set in small-town Vermont. It features a Marine veteran hero, a down-on-her-luck heroine, small-town vibes, age-gap romance, and plenty of action and danger. Set around Valentine’s Day, it’s a great holiday read. Vienna’s Valentine is the first book in the Green Mountain Holidays series, a collection of novellas that take place during the holidays. No cliffhanger and HEA guaranteed!

Green Mountain Guardians is one of my favourite series by Gia Cobie, so a holiday themed spin-off series of novellas is exactly what the doctor ordered. I absolutely love the opening of this book: Vienna pulling over in a crazy snowstorm to try to rescue a stray dog. Ok, maybe it’s dangerous, but honestly… same. I love when you have mad respect for a character right out the gate. Now Caleb? Loved him immediately. He’s a little gruff and rough round the edges after what he’s been through, but he’s down bad for Vienna straight away, even if he initially sees it as taking care of someone who needs help. Every ounce of his love for her is palpable through the pages and I love that! Somehow, GC has managed to condense an entire book into a novella and I didn’t feel like anything was missed. Incredible as always.

Vienna’s Valentine is the first book in the Green Mountain Holidays series. Offers a compelling and emotionally resonant start to the Green Mountain Holidays series, skillfully blending romantic suspense with the heartwarming small town setting. It is nuanced, fast paced, and a page-turner.

This is a compelling story of two individuals, both bearing the scars of past struggles, finding unexpected solace and profound connection in each other amidst holiday cheer and suspense. Their heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking journey from a chance encounter in a snowstorm to a promise of a future together is touching and rewarding. Vienna, a young woman, starts anew in the small town of Bliss. She's living in her car until she can afford an apartment, but finally has independence. However, her life is disrupted by a snowstorm and a lost dog on the road that she attempts to rescue. Caleb, a retired Marine and loner, also stumbles upon the scene, and their immediate connection sparks romance. Her chemistry with Caleb is instant and develops naturally, making their romance believable and relatable. Caleb's carefully constructed solitude is challenged by Vienna's vulnerable yet fiercely independent spirit. Caleb and Vienna's connection is built on mutual respect and a shared sense of compassion. He recognizes her inner strength, kindness, and unwavering optimism. Caleb shows his love through his protective instincts, action, and unwavering support. Vienna sees through Caleb's gruff exterior and his hardened demeanor, recognizing his quiet strength, the genuine concern, honorable, and caring man. Caleb and Vienna show that love can be found in the most unexpected places, and a unique connection and vulnerability can lead to forever love and beautiful relationships.

Vienna’s Valentine is the perfect novella, a quick read, well-crafted, and character-driven.

Well, Gia Cobie has done it again! Vienna's Valentine is book one of the new Green Mountain Holidays series, a series of holiday novellas taking place in Vermont. This story centers around Vienna and Caleb. Both our main characters have dealt with unfortunate pasts, making trusting others or entering into romantic relationships very difficult. They meet in the middle of a snowstorm when Vienna is attempting to rescue a stranded dog and Caleb, former special forces, is trying to make his way home. A series of unfortunate events have left Vienna homeless and living in her car. Caleb offers her a space in his guest cabin on his property and as the two spend more time together, Vienna learns that Caleb is more than his gruff exterior. But danger won't leave these two alone and the captivating twists and turns will make youkeep turning the pages. Even though this is a novella, Gia expertly provides great character development, a gripping suspense story full of plenty of page turning action, and sweet love with a little spice mixed in. I absolutely adored Vienna and Caleb together and I thought their love story was absolute perfection. I truly have no notes. I also loved that we got a few cameos from some of our Green Mountain Guardians (a series I highly recommend, but it's not required to read and enjoy this novella). If you love romantic suspense, a captivating love story, and nonstop action, this book is for you. I loved it and highly recommend!!!

A simply wonderful start to series, great characters and a plot that’s riveting from start to finish
Vienna has found herself in smalltown as a dishwasher where she had believed her new life was going to start but she is still living in her car, waiting until she has enough for a one-bedroom apartment. When she is in the small town she sees a small dog struggling in the middle of the road, the blizzard is harsh and she knows that she has to rescue him from the middle of the road.
Caleb sees a small figure in the middle of the road in a snowstorm and cannot understand what on earth they could possibly be doing in the road on such a terrible night. Caleb might be a loner but he is also an ex marine and is always prepared for anything so when he stops to help Vienna he could never have known how his life would be changed.
Caleb who lives by routine and by keeping to times and schedules suddenly finds that the mini whirlwind and dog that has come into his life of total solitude and completely turning things on their head. The woman he has taken in to help is kind hearted, accident prone and has no sense of self preservation and the more he sees of her the more he wants to see her.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing

A Short Must-Read!

"Vienna’s Valentine" is the first book in the Green Mountain Holiday series. The story of Vienna and Caleb pulled me in from the very start; it is emotional and heartfelt, as both Vienna and Caleb have complicated pasts. Vienna is looking for a place to start over with her life, while Caleb is withdrawing from the experiences he had during his military service.

During a snowstorm, Vienna pulls over to rescue a dog, and that’s when she meets Caleb. As events unfold, it becomes clear that Vienna does not have a place to stay lined up—only a job. Caleb, for the first time in years, feels a deep connection and cannot help but want to help Vienna by offering her a place to stay.

As they begin to trust each other and let down their walls, their connection grows stronger. However, they soon discover that Vienna’s past accident was not an accident at all; she was targeted, and the person responsible is back to get her. Caleb is determined to do whatever it takes to keep her and his friends safe.

The characters, romantic suspense, and mystery kept me on the edge of my seat and had me flying through the pages!

Vienna Watson’s life took a drastic turn when she had to drop out of the paramedic program. This occurred after she was injured and unable to complete the course. Returning to the town of Bliss, where she had once been happy, she is hoping to jump start her life, again. For now, she is barely making ends meet when she finds herself without a home and a car. How will she be able to get to work? Former Marine Raider Caleb Davidson grew up in Bliss and has returned to a solitary lifestyle as he deals with PTSD. He is there when Vienna is in need of help and offers her the use of the empty cabin on his property. Vienna begins to feel as if she finally has a solid chance for the life she had hoped for when she returned to Bliss. She is attracted to Caleb, his strength and his caring concern for her situation, but is that enough to lead to something stronger and lasting? When an incident on his property threatens their chance at a future, Caleb vows to keep her safe. I loved that this story reflected quite a bit on Caleb’s thoughts, struggles and his awakening to the life that was within his reach when often the woman’s emotions are more on display. A truly beautiful love story! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Vienna ended up in the smalltown and has found a job as a dishwasher. It's a start to her new life. Ok she's living in her car until she can afford a small apartment, but she's finally standing on her own two feet. Until the storm hits. The snow just won't stop and its like a blizzard. Then she sees the small dog scared in the middle of the road. So she has to stop and save him. Caleb is on his way home the snow just keeps falling until suddenly he sees the small figure in the middle of the road. What are they doing on a dark road in all this snow. Being ex marines he's always on alert and this isn't right. This is the start of a roller coaster of mishaps in Vienna's life. Caleb is a loner, he likes routine and suddenly that is thrown out the window with the beautiful accident prone woman he rescued in a snow storm. Except now he sees maybe being alone isn't exactly what he craves. Sit back and enjoy the mishaps and romance by these two opposites. I can't wait for more from this series

Absolutely devoured this book! It was so fantastic!

Vienna quickly became one of my favorite Gia Cobie heroines. Vienna is down on her luck (sleeping in her car, recovering from a broken leg after being hit by a car, etc.). Even with the circumstances she finds herself in, she is hopeful, kind and hardworking. I immediately sympathized and rooted for her. She was a very inspiring heroine. Caleb is a retired Marine whose isolated himself due to a bad experience. These two meet when Vienna stops to rescue an abandoned dog during a snowstorm. Their connection is immediate but doesn't feel like insta-love. Their chemistry was fantastic and the romance developed perfectly. Caleb was a wonderful protective hero too. These two definitely made me swoon!

The suspense plot was slow building but it was worth the pay-off at the end. Cobie certainly kept me guessing who the villain was. Plus this had a ton of action too I found very entertaining.

A great start to a new series! Cannot wait for more books. Highly recommend!

Oh my heart, I loved this book!! If any two people belong together it's Caleb and Vienna! With everything that has happened to Vienna, it's amazing she is such an awesome person. She is willing to help anyone, including one very lucky dog. She is so brave and adventurous too. To take the steps that she does, had to be terrifying for her. Her character is so strong yet she doesn't even realize it. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. She is exactly what Caleb needs in his life. Caleb is suffering from PTSD. Yet with everything he is going thru he knows that Vienna is special and sets out to help her in anyway possible. These two people are truly meant for each other!! I can't imagine any other couple that Gia could have written about for her Valentine story. I really don't have a favorite part. I loved this book from cover to cover. Yes there is a villain and lots of warm fuzzy feelings with heat! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Loved the book, a quick read and plenty of action and angst. Vienna is a down on her luck beautiful young woman who is doing her best to keep her head above water or in this book above the snow. Her car is barely functioning, and her leg which was hurt in an accident months ago is tired and achy. Life is feeding her sour grapes, yet she is trying to stay positive. She meets Caleb who sees her car and is initially taken by the beautiful young lady. at first Caleb just wants to help her out and as time goes on, he starts to realize how amazing and beautiful she is.

He allows her (really wants her to do so) stay at the extra cabin not far from his to help her and to maybe figure out why she has such an effect on him. Bad things happen and shortly he becomes very protective of her and helps to figure out who is after her and why.

Typical of Gia's books they are two souls who grow to understand and love each other because they randomly meet. Love the cover, great book and an excellent quick read.

Vienna decided to start over in a small town.
She gets a job as a dishwasher to start.
She is living in her car until she can get her first check.
She did research about living in your car during winter.
One nite after her shift she was headed out of town to find a
place out of the way to sleep. Its snowing and the roads are bad.
Something runs out in front of her and she slams on her brakes
which made her lose control. She got it righted and parked on the side of road.
It was a dog that ran out and she gets out to try to catch it. She's getting close when a truck comes up on her and he gets out yelling that she could have killed them stopping there.
She doesn't back down telling him she is trying to save the dog.
After a few he finally decides to help her catch the dog. Then a big truck
going way to fast comes down the road. Caleb pulls her out of the way just in time.
Then there is a loud metal on metal sound and she just knew that her life just got harder.
Definitely a good read.
I was given a copy and I voluntarily leave this review.

Captivating page turning read with twists and turns that you wont see coming. Vienna is trying to start over in a new town. It is a little more difficult than she believed it was going to be. She is on her way to shelter for the night when she sees a dog out in the middle of a snow storm that needs to be rescued. Caleb finds them both and realizes that they need to be rescued. That is when the instalove between these two begins but also the danger. Someone is after either one of them but will Caleb be able to figure out it before either one of them get hurt? I absolutely loved this storyline. Love can be found in unexpected places and a unique connection and vulnerability can lead to forever love and beautiful relationships. Once again Gia has written an amazing love story build on mutual respect and a shared sense of compassion about two characters who both bear the scars of past struggles. I will say the twist in this I did not see coming from a mile away.

"Vienna’s Valentine" is a sweet, cozy, and surprisingly action-packed romance that completely stole my heart. Set against a snowy Vermont backdrop, this novella blends small-town charm, danger, and heartfelt emotion perfectly.

Vienna is brave and compassionate (stopping in a blizzard to save a dog says it all), and Caleb—the gruff but protective Marine veteran—is the ultimate soft-hearted hero. Their chemistry feels natural, with just the right mix of tender moments and heat. I especially loved the “found each other when they needed it most” vibe and the way their connection develops so genuinely.

Warm, romantic, and comforting with a touch of suspense, this is the perfect Valentine’s or winter read. A quick, satisfying story with a guaranteed HEA that left me excited for the rest of the series.

This is the perfect love story for the new year!

When Vienna decides to start a new life in Bliss, she has no idea it’s only going to get worse before it gets better!

After getting stuck in a snowstorm, and then stopping in the middle of the road to save a poor lost animal, Vienna’s car (currently holding her entire life and her only living space) gets totaled, she realizes maybe this wasn’t the redo she was looking for.

Maybe she was making yet another mistake.

But what she didn’t know, is that decision to move to Bliss may make her life a little crazy for a while, even put her life in grave danger for a pinch, but will ultimately be the best decision she ever makes!

I received this book as an advanced reader copy and am leaving this review in hopes other readers will love it as much as I do!!

A short and sweet holiday novella with plenty of suspense and spice packed in; whats not to love?
There's plenty of action and emotion packed into this story. We have a wounded hero in caleb, slowly coming out of his reclusive phase. A strong heroine in Vienna, who though she's starting over and fighting to get by, there's still compassion and caring in her. When they encounter each other on a snow filled road, late at night ther's interest on both sides and a common cause in helping a stray dog.
But strange things are happing around Viennas and Caleb's protective natuue is shouting at him to help her.
Onve more Gia has me on the edeg of my seat and routing for the coule. And with twists and an unexpected this book ticks all my boxes. I loved it!

Story of resilience and romance
The FMC has experienced so much hardship and is still a decent human being to others and animals, you can’t help but like her. Her surprise at this newest situation is genuine but she refuses to cower, I admired that. The MMC is a medically retired marine with PTSD, but this time, his paranoia is spot on. He is a gentle protective cinnamon roll. This is my first time reading for this author and I enjoyed the book. The story’s rising situation surprised me with it’s rapid existence, which is probably how the MCs felt, rather cleverly delivered. If you enjoy a sweet “when you know, you just know” romance with characters that are damaged but not taking it out on the world, then you should enjoy reading this book.

Vienna has left New York and gone to Bliss, she's got a job but not enough money for somewhere to stay, so although it's freezing she's going to sleep in her car. Driving through a blizzard she stops to help a dog. Caleb sees her and stops too, then a tow truck doesn't stop. The police arrive, one of the officers seems to imply that the accident is her fault, Caleb gets very protective of her, he left the Marines for health reasons three years ago and has become a bit of a hermit, but seeing Vienna and how she's trying to protect the dog while being freezing cold and with nowhere to go, shakes him up.
When Caleb finds her and tells her about his spare cabin where she can stay, she feels safe with him, until things change.

Vienna left everything behind, including the trauma of an auto accident that left her needing multiple surgeries on her leg and having to stop her EMT classes. She is now living in her car and has reached Vermont. She is in a snowstorm and sees dog that needs rescuing. Caleb, a former military member and loner, stops to resistantly help her when her car is hit and destroyed. All her meager possessions and the car itself are destroyed. She has no place to live and no money for a hotel.

Caleb realizes this and offers her a place to stay at a cabin on his property. Danger closes in on her and she discovers that the auto accident that damaged her leg wasn’t an accident. It’s a real twist to discover who was behind it and still wants her dead. It’s a novella chock full of intrigue and romance! Another little gem by this talented author, Gia knows how to make us swoon with hearts in our eyes and keep us on the edge of our seats with suspense. And we've got both again in this short novella featering Vienna and Caleb.

Vienna's luck has let her down hard but she's trying to get back on her feet and found a job as a waitress. When one evening she encounters a dog in the middle of the road during a snowstorm, she just has to help even by bringing herself in danger. Luckily there's Caleb who finds and helps her.

Caleb is an ex-marine who's returned home after serving, he's a loner, keeps to himself and is totally surprised to find himself intrigued with Vienna. Especially after he finds out she's got no place to stay and with her car wrecked. So he offers her a place to stay.

And as they say 'the rest is history', of course they fall for eachother, both Caleb and Vienna are such great characters. While Caleb comes over as this gruff grump, he's got a heart of gold and when it appears someone is out to get Vienna, his protective instincts amp up seriously.

Vienna's Valentine is the first book in the Green Mountain Holidays series and I can't wait for the next one. I already wonder which theme it's gonna have.

Novella that delivered! I love when I can grab a novella when short on time and nothing is missing. Warm hearted female, Vienna- check. She's in the middle of a storm and stops to rescue a dog! Ex -military into self hibernation with protection genes, Caleb - check. He pulls up behind her and gets out yelling as they are on a narrow road and the snow is coming down. This is an enjoyable romantic suspense that checks all the boxes. The suspense is a little lighter and the romance is sweet. The steam is not full out in your face, so yes this book was a win win for me. I checked serial in my shelves because she says # 1. Woot Woot. Thank you for the advanced copy. Vienna had really hit rock bottom - no home, no family, no friends, no car, no dog and a bad leg. Her life had tried to pound her into nothing, convince her she was nothing, deserved nothing. But Vienna kept trying - trying to start anew, trying to take care of herself and build a future, not be a burden, trying to be independent to the point of refusing freely-offered help. Caleb had done his best to pull back from the world and any responsibility to others after his discharge from the Marines, but helping Vienna, not because he saw her as pathetic but because he admired her strength and her sweetness and generosity of spirit, brought him back to life. A sweet story, quick emotional read.

Vienna's Valentine is the first book in the new Green Mountain Holidays series and it is a perfect story to start with. This storyline and characters were written to perfection to keep the reader entertained from start to finish and engage every emotion. What starts out as a roadside rescue on a snowy mountainside road involving a rescued dog, a half frozen woman and a violent car accident turns into a suspense filled romance between two people with tramatic past who are closed off. The slow burn love story does not take away from the suspense of who is try to kill either Caleb or Vienna because there isn't a clear definition who the intended victim is until the culprit is caught. This author plays with your emotions, heart strings and gives you a really great start to a new series.

Caleb is closed off. He doesn’t do people. He stays in his home he’s basically become a recluse because of his experience in the Marines. Vienna is trying to start over after recovering from an injury that has affected her stamina while working and walking. They meet on a cold icy night saving a dog. Things quickly progressed and Caleb begins to thaw and decides to protect Vienna when accidents begin to happen to her. But Caleb suspects these are not accidents. This is a beautiful story that uncurls like a butterfly’s wing. It’s sweet as it develops but it also has you on the edge of your seat because the danger is real and perplexing. I wanted it to be longer because I enjoyed it so much. However, it’s just right. HEA!! HAPPY READING

⭐️ARC Review⭐️

In Vienna’s Valentine by Gia Cobie, Vienna arrives in Bliss down on her luck and meets Caleb, a reclusive ex-Marine, during a snowstorm. I liked Caleb’s protective nature and the instant connection he felt with Vienna.

While this was a good read, I struggled with some of Vienna’s choices. The way the author wrote the FMC was not great, in my opinion. The novella pacing felt rushed, and the suspense didn’t really show up until the very end of the book. I did enjoy seeing familiar characters from other Gia Cobie books make appearances, though. Overall, this was a fun read, but not one of my favorites from this author.

Vienna’s Valentine is a great novella by one of my favourite authors. While I usually prefer longer books, Gia Cobie certainly didn’t disappoint. I love the Green Mountain Guardian series, and this holiday romance set in that world was an absolute treat.

This is an action-packed romance featuring the brave and determined Vienna and the protective Caleb, whose chemistry keeps the story moving at a perfect pace. It was also wonderful to catch up with familiar faces from previous books, which made the story even more enjoyable.

A perfect Valentine’s Day read - romantic, exciting, and heartfelt.

What a sweet romance. I loved Vienna and Caleb. Vienna is down on her luck tries to rescue a dog in the middle of a snowstorm. Caleb sees her and helps her. But while they are rescuing the dog a large truck smashed into Vienna's car that she had been living in.
Caleb has been living a very solitary life since leaving the military. When he finds out Vienna had been living out of her car he invites her to stay at his extra cabin on his property.
But danger is lurking, and someone is threatening Vienna. Is it due to her past or something else? Can Caleb keep her safe?

This is a fun novella to read!

Green Mountain Holidays book 1.

Such a great book to throw in the middle of the weekend. Gia Cobie never disappoints with her characters.

Vienna and Caleb are perfect together in this holiday themed story.

Vienna is sleeping in her car because she just got to town and can’t afford anything right now and Caleb finds out. Caleb, finds that he can’t leave her in the snowstorm to sleep in her car so he offers her a place to stay. Caleb already knows he is in trouble with this woman in his place, but it is so wonderful to read and watch him fall in love and Vienna right there with him.

I absolutely loved this and adored the main characters Vienna and Caleb. They were both so vulnerable and had been through so much. There were glimpses of Vienna’s past and as the story developed you find out more, along with more about a Caleb. Totally engaged from the first page I enjoyed how the characters interacted, the pace of the story and how the attraction between them developed. Nothing was rushed but it kept me wanting to see if it was all going to end how I hoped! Look g forward to the next one in this series.
