After a meteoric rise to stardom and a career steeped in fame and accolades, four-time MVP winner and shooting guard Ashton Santoro wants nothing more than to retire from the league with another ring. From the outside looking in, Ashton’s eleven year marriage is what dreams are made of and the epitome of black love. But an interview with award-winning sports journalist, Chanel Dubois, threatens to unravel his secrets from the past and the truth about his marriage. Struggling to keep his private life out of the spotlight, Ashton finds himself the target of a stalker, and he quickly realizes the only person he can trust is Chanel.
Being in the spotlight has never been Chanel Dubois’s dream. She loves highlighting players from the sidelines and in the magazine she writes for. But when she receives pictures from an anonymous sender, she finds herself teaming up with Ashton to protect his secret. But what she never dreamed of was that she would become the target of a stalker and sensationalized in the blogs, and she certainly never expected to fall in love with the league’s “happily married” superstar shooting guard.
With time running out, the two will have to uncover the identity of the stalker before someone else gets hurt. Searching for the truth will cause Ashton and Chanel to discover how much they actually have in common. Will Ashton trust his heart with the determined reporter, or will he learn there’s a price to pay for loyalty?
I love a good sports romance mixed with secrets and messy media drama, so adding a stalker situation already had me sold. Ashton and Chanel being forced to trust each other while everything around them unravels kept me curious. The suspense, hidden truths, and two people catching feelings in the middle of a mess made Unleash Me worth checking out.
This was a pretty good read. Ashton & Chanel both had some serious heartbreak but found healing in each other. I liked the suspenseful element…I was definitely wrong in who I thought the stalker was lol. What I loved the most though was how natural Chanel & Ashton’s romance felt. Their progression from workplace associates to friends to lovers was realistic and had a nice flow. I was slightly frustrated midway through though at Ashton’s insistence on taking the high road when it came to the rumors surrounding him & Chanel. He prided himself on being a “protector” (seriously if you take a shot for every time he said it, you’d be nice and lit) but when he had the opportunity to protect her in the media, I feel like he didn’t do what was needed. Overall though I enjoyed the story and enjoyed them as a couple. His ex needed some time on somebody’s couch though because whew chile, letting almost 2 decades of bitterness fester is wild.
Rating 4.5 ⭐️ Unleash me felt like peaking into a perfect life and realizing it was never whole to begin with. From the outside, Ashton had it all legacy, marriage, image. The deeper you get, the more you see he wasn’t being loved. His wife was collecting 🍆 like Pokémon. Don't get me wrong her hurt was valid but dassit.
Chanel added fuel to a slow burn. He knew her reputation and was even warned be careful with her. Let's just say sometimes you need a storm to clear a path. Somehow, in the middle of chaos, secrets, and a whole stalker situation, she became the safest place for him. Their connection felt ordained. Intense but not rushed or forced. Just two people realizing wait… this is what it’s supposed to feel like?
Ashton Sir those papers should have been filed at her first bounce on a 🍆 that wasn't yours. He was truly protective to a fault. The kind of man who will burn everything down for the people he loves but sometimes forgets not everyone needs to be handled like a threat. That moment with Tommi I wasn’t feeling that. She was standing ten toes for her cousin just like he was and he came at her a little too heavy.
So I know yall guessed it too right? I had my eye on that PA. Too convenient, unlimited access. Muffin would’ve been the obvious route, so yeah that reveal landed just right. What really grounded this story was the faith woven through it. When the doctors says I'm sorry and life feels final 🙌🏾🙌🏾 God says otherwise. 🙌🏾🙌🏾 God will always have the final word. Keep the Faith and Hope! So whether you call this a second chance or the first time getting it right one thing is clear: This was the first time it felt real.

Idk I couldn’t. The beginning was throwing me all the way off cause Chanel was pmo. She sounded like she felt guilty for bringing up muffin cheating but then would turn around and say Ashton was throwing a temper tantrum and that he ruined lunch and I’m like… girl are you taking accountability or what I’m confused.
What really made me dnf was when he confronted muffin and 1. She said he didn’t do shit when he fucked another teammate and I was like so why is he mad now and 2. After she said his mom made her get an abortion to not ruin his life I was like… THEN she said it happened AGINNNN and the mom forced the other girl to get the abortion too and I was like omg mama a bird raising a bird ass son THEN he said he didn’t care and that didn’t even stop him from cheating what stopped him was another girl giving him chlamydia and he decided to stop fucking other girls raw… not stop.. but stop fucking them raw. After that I can’t see myself siding with him at all. Muffin is my girl cause yes get your fucking lick back fuck his dad next cause huh??? I’m cool
Wow, this book was really good. I love the fact that it had an air of intrigue and mystery. And who doesn't love a sports romance.
Ash was a good guy. He loved his family and his teammates. He also loved his wife even though she was not worthy of his love and protection. She should have talked to him about how she was feeling with everything they had gone through. Maybe, they would have worked. Who knows?
Meeting Chanel gave him pause because she was a reporter with a representation of doing whatever it takes to get a story. This made Ashton leary. He soon found out that everything you read or hear is not always true.
Being placed in close proximity to one another gave them a chance to get to know each other and fall in love. They ended up being exactly what and whom each other needed.
I just loved everything about this book. When Ashton met Chanel for an interview, he wasn't expecting the secrets that she would reveal. Things start to get messy in both of their lives. Ashton with his wife and the end of their marriage and Chanel being pulled into the middle of it. After things take a dangerous turn in Chanel's life, Ashton steps up to protect Chanel by taking her away from the danger. Their getting to know more about each other and their banter while they were away made the book so enjoyable. This book was definitely a thrill ride since there were so many interesting plot elements. There was chemistry, passion, drama, betrayal and jeopardy. I'm just glad that they were able to find love again after all they went through. This book was so delightful from the first page until the last. I definitely recommend it!!
This book is soooo good omg! It has so many twists and turns. It gave me his and hers from Netflix vibes. The MMC and FMC 😍😍 From the beginning I was locked in, not putting the book down, reading on my break, and every where in between. It’s so engaging just when you think nothing else could happen there’s a plot twist. Egypt Cynaé this is my favorite book of the year thus far! The incorporation of GOD and that prayer almost sent me over. This book did not disappoint its filled with spice, passion, drama, romance, and so many fresh raw emotions. I loved it 10/10 hands down.
Ashton and Chanel finding love again with each other after heartbreak was beautiful to see. They vibed and were able to talk to each other about anything, even the hard stuff and I loved that for them. This couple was kind of forced together by an unknown threat, but in doing so they were able to see how much they had in common, how their values aligned and how their attraction to the other was reciprocal. This was such a good book even with the craziness of the stalking.
What can I say about book 5 of the BLP Breeds Series?!?! Egypt did her big one writing this book and it made me fall deeper in love with her writing and excited to read her catalog.
Ashton and Chanel’s story was simply amazing. What started as an interview between a reporter and retiring basketball with secrets turned into so much more. And the drama that surrounded them was mind blowing.
If you love close proximity romances then you will absolutely love this book and you need to add this book and the rest of the series to your TBR!!!
Ashton is a married professional basketball player who is trying to keep his private life private.
Chanel is a journalist looking to write a wrap story on Ashton. But, she provides him with information that addresses the things that he has been working to conceal from the public.
In them meeting each other, there is an attraction, but he respects his situation and removes himself before things crosses the line.
In time, secrets and betrayal are revealed. But their journey of love stands.
How my this book had a lot going on. That damn ex wife of his needed so act right. She was dead wrong for the things she did. That ex husband needed a beat down. Loved how Ash handled the season. I understood why he took thr stance that he did although I wanted him to out her for the things that she did to him. Glad everything turned out will for them and they got their HEA.
Holy crap, this was a rollercoaster ride for real. Chanel was doing her job a little to well and revealed some stuff that turned Ashton's life upside down. But they got through it together. The plot twist was wild. Like, really gotta check ya circle. Crazy work. Love the ending. Chanel and Ashton went through a lot and they deserve every good thing that came to them and more
As crazy as this story was their love was super sweet. It was definitely intense on how they were for each but you knew they were not playing about each other. That dang stalker had me until she came to the cabin than I knew it was someone they already knew. I loved the way they were there for each other and how the transgressions of others brought them to the best love story.
This book was written so well ! I definitely had my assumptions of who was doing the stalking and was definitely wrong lls !
I love how Chanel was just doing a job and actually found love in the end !
The ex- wife is just uggghh I wanted to feel bad for her when she said what she said but that was no excuse! & Chanel ex-husband I hope his sperm count low lls because what you mean I trapped you ??? 🤨
Loved everything about this story. The ex's had some serious issues. Loved how the MMC could be a bit hard and soft. A true Alpha. The FMC was dealing with some confident issues because of her ex-huband but Ashton helped her through it. There is a little touch of mystery which I loved. I was wrong about who the bad guy was🤔😂. Sex scenes were 🔥🔥and 🌶🌶. Kudos to the author👏🏾👏🏾
Theo book was a great read and I love how it showed that our timing is not always the one we seek!!!… With all the havoc and disarray in 2 different marriages, God’s timing is what was in ctrl!!!… Both Ashton and Chanel were blessed with what they both desired!!!…Their faith was strong, their family circle was strong and the community came together!!!…
I loved this story. Whew....they went through that. Ashton was protective but loved that he finally saw the light. He was doing the most and was still disrespected. I loved that Chanel didn't tell her friends everything. They genuinely had a connection. I loved their families. Supportive and true. The Almighty will never let you down. That was a true message that they needed. Love the family growing and the peace they both have✨️✨️✨️
Ashton was definitely an honorable man. He was faithful regardless of what Muffin was doing. Chanel came along and he became attracted to her, but never broke his vows. Yes, she flirted, but she respected him. Their friendship was the one thing they both learned to lean on. The stalker issues were crazy. Ashton being a protector brought them closer. They formed their love. They both needed something new. Their love was beautiful. Awesome read!
I was so invested in this book and very wrong on my assumption. The twist and turns were very well written. Chanel was just doing a job until things became personal. Little stupid dummy wasn't aware that the stalking is what drove Ashton and Chanel to a place of forever.
I mean they had everyone jealous of something that wasn't even true until it was.
I loved it, it had BDE, drama, spice, and romance!! Ashton was loyal, even when he had reason not to be. I loved how Chanel came in and nurtured the true Ashton. The person he reserved for his circle only in the world that was trying to consume him whole. I loved how fiercely he protected Chanel. I loved their happily ever after. Five stars Ms. Cynaé!!🥰
Ashton was really getting on my nerves. When everyone was telling him to get ahead of the story. Muffin played him very bad and I didn't like how he still was protecting her. Chanel had patience with him. In the end they made a beautiful couple.
Ashton and Chanel are our latest BLP Breed book and the Cane Corso is our breed. These two have orbited one another for years in sports arenas, but are thrown together when Ashton is ending his untroubled career with a looming scandal. I enjoyed how natural their connection seemed to flow and she fit in his circle. Happy Reading y’all!💋
This was my first read by this author and I thoroughly impressed. This story held suspense and romance equally. The villain… I was not expecting that. I would absolutely reread this story and I will be looking more into this authors’ catalogue.
I loved it all. This book took me through it. I was mad at he would keep protecting his cheating wife. I’m Chanel got her happy ending. Her husband was a tool. His wife deserved everything that came to her, whew chile that darn Shaneice….
Good read, the plot kept me on my toes. Chanel was truly Ashton’s speed. She knew the real him through innocent observations and interactions. He met her at a time where he needed someone to see him!
A great read! Chanel & Ashton were meant to be together! I enjoyed the plot twists and turns! Once Ashton became unleashed there was no taming him, other than Chanel! The families were loving and supportive on both sides! I enjoyed the epilogue!
Love this book because I like how the main characters are opposites and I see how each of their story is build and how they come together to help each other . I really love seeing how their love story comes together .couldn’t put this book down
What started as an interview for a magazine story turned to so much more. Ash and Channel's story was filled with drama, but it was worth reading. I most certainly recommend this one.
