Moonfell Witches #3

Gilded Moon: Midnight, Masks, and Mirrors

Rate this book
Every mask has a memory.

When Odette discovers a collection of centuries-old masquerade masks hidden in the attic, along with a strange metal object that reeks of subterfuge, she assumes she’s uncovered a family secret.

She’s wrong.

The masks aren’t relics.

They remember.

On midsummer eve in 1754, twin witches Sorrel and Wintermere Westerly prepare for the most dazzling masquerade Moonfell has ever seen. But an uninvited guest arrives, dangerously curious about the estate’s moon gates, and the night begins to unravel, especially when the fey slip through, bringing mischief, danger, and chaos in their wake.

Now, as the present-day Moonfell witches prepare for their own midsummer celebration, the past refuses to stay buried. Mirrors shift. Hidden paths appear. The house itself grows unstable. And something is coming through again.

Some magic does not fade.

Some secrets refuse to be forgotten.

And at Moonfell, midnight always demands its due.

Perfect for fans of Deborah Harkness and Nora Roberts, Gilded Moon is a richly atmospheric tale of historical mystery and contemporary magic, where legacy, power, and memory collide.

I'm a writer, a pagan, and a witch, and consequently love all things magical. I write fictional books about witchcraft and the paranormal, and they are jam-packed with fabulous characters, colourful settings, plenty of action, and lots of humour.

I was born in England, in the Black Country, but moved to New Zealand in 2006. I lived near Wellington with my partner Jase, and my cats Sacha and Leia. However, in April 2022 we moved again! Yes, I like making my life complicated… I’m now living in the Algarve in Portugal, and loving the fabulous weather and people. When I’m not busy writing I read lots, indulge in gardening and shopping, and I love yoga.

Confession time! I’m a Star Trek geek – old and new – and love urban fantasy and detective shows. Secret passion – Columbo! Favourite Star Trek film is the Wrath of Khan, the original! Other top films – Predator, the original, and Aliens.

In a previous life I was a singer in a band, and used to do some acting with a theatre company. For more on me, check out a couple of my blog posts. I have also written a blog about how I finally became comfortable about calling myself a witch. It's called Leaning into my Witch.

I love the Moonfell Witches and their close relationship with the Storm Moon Shifters. The clever interweaving of past and present in these books gives them something unusual to really get your teeth into.

There is a Midsummer party in the past and another to be held in the present. The two are linked in a magical connection with the masquerade masks, found by Odette in the attic. Moonfell is unlocking surprises and the witches work to find out why they making new discoveries, and what links them to past events.

There are LOTS of lovely surprises, mystery, magic and no small amount of mischief and mayhem. We see more of wider Moonfell family and get to know Como and Lam better, as well as learning more about Moonfell witches of the past. The Storm Moon shifters play an important part in the story and we see some other old favourites make an appearance too.

The descriptions of the masquerade party of the past are so vibrant and colourful that it is easy to imagine them. You find yourself painting a picture in your mind of the various characters and, as the story develops, you will be willing them to work out what is happening and how to deal with it. The story is packed with twists and turns, that will keep you glued to the spot, as you keep reading to find out what will happen next. These books are addictive reading and I can’t wait for more.

I just love all things Moonfell and its witches, with their close links to the london shifter clan, and as I have been saying for the past few books, it seems Ms. Green is just getting ever stronger in her writing, and each book becomes more gripping. This novel is another dual timeline one, and this time the overlap is with the midsummer event being held in 1754, and is triggered by the finding of masquerade masks by Odette, who upon trying a mask on starts getting flashbacks. The moonfell witches back in time were preparing a huge masquarade ball, opening moonfell grounds to their guests, but some intruders attend with their eyes set on their moon gates. Their actions and intrusion makes the bees angry, and the fey to cross over, causing havoc amongst the guests. Present day witches are pulled in to the goings on in moonfell in 1754 through the bespelled mirror, the changes happening to their home and garden, and their bees. It seems that moonfell cannot let go of its past, and it wants Birdie, Morgana, Odette and all their family to aid their ancestors in their time of need. This book makes for very compulsive reading as it is full of midsummer magic and lore and fantastic characters from both past and present.

I adore the Moonfell Witches series. The plots are so intricate and the dual timelines always make stories feel so much richer. I really enjoyed spending time in the Georgian era with the witches of the time. Although we're unlikely to meet them again, they were fully formed personalities and the descriptions of the gardens in their time as well as the house decor and their costumes were sumptuous. In the modern day, Birdie, Odette, Morgana and now Lam and Como are preparing to host a Midsummer's Eve party for friends and family when strange things start to happen in the house and gardens. The intrigue, the magic, and the potential for disaster were all there, and there were a number of times I held my breath, waiting to see what would happen. It was nice to meet more of the family and to catch up with old friends. The two plots are very cleverly intertwined to reach an unexpected conclusion. This is definitely a story I will need to read again as I am sure there are bits I missed first time around, plus it leaves interesting options for the next book in the series.

Moonfell Witches book number 3 is a tale of 2 different time periods, shifting from 1754 to present. In the present, the witches decide to hold a masquerade at Midsummer they find wonderful outfits and very magical masks, with some magic still attached! When it switches back to 1754 the witches then are garden designers and wish to attract more customers so they hold a masquerade! How TJ Green switches time backward and forward you become quite worried that something is going to go wrong with the 1754 masquerade. When the present Moonfell witches discover that they can see some visions of this 1754 masquerade and discover Fae magic is involved. They try to help, but it’s a dangerous undertaking when anything could happen! I won’t say anymore, but you will enjoy this book, like all her books the characters are well constructed and you will enjoy going back to 1754 and meeting new witches and their families. Fantastic read, well worth the purchase price!

I received an early copy of this book, for an honest review. I am always very happy to review TJ's books, they are so good! The storylines are interesting and magical, the research that goes into them is amazing, with worlds, myth and magic blended seamlessly together, with plot twists and character development along the way.
Gilded Moon is another fantastical trip to Moonfell and its secrets! We learn about a previous high priestess, her family and the mischief they get up to and mischief they need to sort out. I loved the way the present and past come together, and how each has its own challenges and magic. The Storm Moon pack are back as well, always excellent when they join in! A brilliant next episode, a can't put down read, and I can't wait for the next one!

I have the privilege of being one of TJ's advance readers, and this was yet another fantastic read taking us backwards and forwards through time, telling the story of the masks and the people who wore them. I loved every chapter as always and learning about the Moonfell ancestors (in this case twin witches who get up to lots of mischief) is always exciting.

I especially loved learning about the bees and their story and how they interact with the family, and how they affect the garden. The Storm Moon pack are there and learn that wolves are no strangers to Moonfell.

The ending had me on the edge of my seat as ever but I simply can't wait for more about this wonderful family and their friends and allies.

Gilded Moon
This is another great book by TJ Green. Moonfell again reveals secrets of magic and mayhem, going back to the past and bringing new information to the present. Odette discovers elaborate masquerade masks just before the midsummer celebration, and the masks bring the past into the future. The house itself becomes restless, opening new pathways in and out of the house, and secrets from the past are revealed. The characters are well written, interesting and help make sense of the mysteries of Moonfell and the moon gates. Again the witches of Moonfell and the shifters work together to make sense of the chaos!

Oh I do love Moonfell! Yet again, we're drawn into a wonderful story of intrigue and mystery which ducks and dives the whole way through. Jumping between times of past and present, it can be a little difficult to remember where you are but the story held me the whole way through. The idea of the masquerade ball was perfect cos who wouldn't want to go to one! I also love the way the characters evolve with every book and we learn more about them and the house. I seriously look forward to the next in this series as the bees fascinate me! Well worth the read. Get this now!

This is such an intriguing and captivating read that grabs you from the very start and does not let go. A fantastic combination of magic, mystery, mischief and mayhem that has you on the edge of your seat totally enthralled and lost to the story. A magical link between a past midsummer party and a present one, with masquerade masks found in the attic as the author weaves their spell and brings us duel timelines and an intricate storyline that are intertwined and surprising. It is a wonderful addition to this series.

As usual, this book captives the reader. The Moonfell series continues to be a must read. A Midsummer Masquerade party that crosses time lines has you feeling the excitement of the past with the intrigue of the present. The overlapping story line keeps you wanting to read and feel more of the story. It's great to meet the ancestors of the past and continue with characters of the present. Loved the book.

Absolutely brilliant, love the duel time lines even more so when the past & present have to work together to save the futures of the Moonfell generations hidden within past & present masquerade ball. We also get to know the Moon fell extended family and how the family have had close links to wolf shifters! Brilliant plot.

this book is really awesome. I thought that TJ's book can't get better. But every new book is even better than the last one. I absolutely adore her style and the knowledge she has about witchcraft. In my opinion she is one of the greatest authors in the fantasy genre.
