A rebellious huntress. A cursed prince. A coup to change it all.
The king spreads darkness with his words, and when he asks me to kill his own son, it’s the final tipping point for me. Guess that solves the issue of how to overthrow the tyrant. We’ll put Prince Alvor on the throne. Except, the Alvor before me is not the same one I knew growing up. This Alvor, well he’s entirely too alluring. He keeps tearing my walls down, reminding me that I'm not the only one who needs to fight for this kingdom.
With one glance into Rowena’s eyes, something changed. She has magic, and the more I reconnect with her, the more I'm sure she’s the key to saving our kingdom. But time is not on our side. I need to claim the throne before my father drives our kingdom into the ground with his greed. The only problem? I’m not ready to let Rowena sacrifice herself for me or my people. Especially not after she broke my curse and rekindled the sparks in my heart.
Fairest Hunter is the first book in The Favored's Curse series. It is a no-spice fairytale retelling, with kisses only, and clean language.
OK, where do I start in order to say how much I loved this gender-bent Robin Hood and Snow White retelling? Rowena was fantastic, and I loved seeing her as the leader of all the people hiding in the forest. (I got a better picture of Robin Hood's camp than I've ever gotten before--it was great how M.K. Felix imagined that out.) I thought Prince Alvor was great--although he was the Snow White character, he was very manly. Honestly, that was one of the best things about this retelling: where a lot of gender-bent stories make the heroine too unfeminine and the hero too wimpy, Fairest Hunter gives Rowena the mantle of Robin Hood and Alvor the role of Snow White while emphasizing Rowena's femininity and Alvor's masculinity!
There were a lot of beautiful Christian themes and symbols, especially that of light against darkness. The vibes reminded me of Ella Enchanted and The Princess Bride. The villain was well-written (oh my goodness, I hated him 😅), the side characters were well-rounded, and the food, as usual for one of Madelyn's stories, was mouthwatering! Five stars and my highest recommendation! I can't wait until this book releases next year!!!
Like, honestly…what don’t you get with this book?! Heartfelt and Clean romance. Check. Fairy tale retelling. Check. Magic. Check. Light vs. Dark/ inspiration themes. Check. It’s all the goodness bound in the pages of one book!
And let’s not forget to mention Robin’s merry men! I just loved how it was a band of brothers that you just rooted for the whole time!
M. K. Felix did a fantastic job of creating solid characters that truly felt lived in while weaving two fairy tales in a way I’ve never seen before. Truly impressive and so fun to read! I’m so glad I picked this book up!!
~A Rebellious huntress, a cursed prince, a coup to change it all…
“Nothing has ever been easy with you.”
-FAIREST HUNTER, is the first delightful story in The Favored’s Curse series. It is a no-spice fairytale retelling, with kisses only, and clean language. I thoroughly enjoy the fun adventure this story took me on with this clean, magical story. I enjoyed seeing dear fairy tales get a fresh twist, the sweet & swoony romance between endearing characters, the humor, and quick but delightful pacing. Most of all though, I love that it’s light and love that wins the battle in the end, and that happiness prevails! I should also note that the dear paperback copy is filled also with such delightful illustrations at the beginning of each chapter which is an added bonus to the beauty of this book treasure. I look forward to more to come in this series and by this delightful author who writes stories with such heart! Fairest Hunter, It is worth the read!📚💯
“You were the light that got me through the darkest days of my existence.”
•Content: a battle between light and dark, community uprising, a touch of magic, mild danger lurking with curses, some freed, some contemporary phrasing occasionally in a fantasy world perspective, no language. Kisses only. Clean closed-door.
“With you by my side I know I can do anything, and I can be the good man I want to become.”
-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I knew from page one that I would enjoy this one! It was intriguing and unique and romantic. This story was such a fresh twist on the Robin Hood and Snow White fairytales. I loved seeing the similarities while also seeing the unique differences. And the world building was done very well.
Alvor and Rowena were fun! I loved watching their romance unfold. The romance and banter was well written and I enjoyed how the conflict is coming together. They had this sweet romance and instant understanding of each other. Their childhood friendship was a great foundation for this plot and I loved how all the mystery came together in the end.
Seeing some familiar fairytale characters was fun and I love how the author really developed some unique characters to fit those roles. This was a high stakes fantasy with a wonderful mash up of fairytale retellings, I truly loved it! The suspense and mystery was great and the plot was fast-paced. Definitely excited for the second book in the series!
The was such a clever twist on the story of Robin Hood and Snow White! I loved the characters and the banter between them. I loved the magic system and how it was tied to good versus evil. I loved how the characters believed in a higher being and the world the characters resided in. This was such a fun story that kept me up late many a night. I would definitely read this again and look forward to more from this author.
Loved this book! I thought the romance was great and the characters had lovely chemistry! Definitely worth the read and hope to find more of her books! I’m also a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I appreciated the values incorporated in the story! Thank you for a great read
A simple yet satisfying spin to Robin Hood and Snow White. While I usually enjoy a more complex adventure/romance novel this wasn't too bad. The characters are easy to understand and likeable. Rowena and her Merry Men were cool, especially when I found out their names. The integration of Maid Marian sets up the plot for the next book.
The story doesn't stall very much, in fact it has a faster pace than I would have liked at times. This is problematic sometimes because there's little time left for story and character development. I wish there was more chemistry between the characters, especially the love interests, and maybe a little more show and less tell. It was a bit dry in spots, for example the characters could use more depth of character.
The next two instalments have the potential to be better because this book is a pretty good foundation. If you're looking for a quick and entertaining read without spice and a straight forward plot you'll enjoy this book. All in all a good read.
In which Robin takes on an evil king to save a kingdom
I enjoyed this gender swapped mashup of Snow White and Robin Hood. It was very clean, had engaging characters, and a sweet romance. Rowena has been serving as the King’s huntress since her father died five years ago. Unfortunately, she has been required to do more than keep meat on the table. When she is tasked with taking Prince Alvor hunting to teach him “silence,” Rowena knows that her timeline for fixing the kingdom has just sped up. It is a good thing she has a band of merry men to help her wake up the prince who has his head in the clouds.
Alvor feels like he has been living in a fog until the light in Rowena’s sharp eyes wakes him up. Now, he is feeling everything and his only lifeline is the woman who he has loved for many years. She may shoot her bow better than he can, but he is determined to show her that he has her back and that the kingdom needs her-almost as much as he does.
Fairest Hunter by M K Felix Rowena is on a mission: save the kingdom by overthrowing the evil tyrant... Such a fun retelling of Snow White and Robin Hood with Prince Alvor taking the place of Snow White and Rowena as Robin. The retelling is very cleverly done with both stories intertwining throughout the book. There were a couple phrases I found a bit too modern for a fantasy world at the beginning but other than that I loved it! Very muxh enjoyed the found family vibes and the battle between light and darkness. Would definitely recommend and I'm excited for the author to continue the series! Book 1 in The Favored's Curse Genre: Fairytale retelling (no spice) Quote: “Everyone, come meet Prince Alvor—our newest outlaw.” Favorite scene: the gifts from the king (corset, comb, etc) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ARC (will be published Jan 9, all opinions are my own)
Wow! That was so good! This is a mashup gender swap retelling between Snow White and Robin Hood and it worked perfectly! This is M. K. Felix’s debut novel and it is incredible! It reminded me a little bit of Aurora Belle’s fairytale retelling and I think that’s another why I really enjoyed it. The cover is gorgeous! Rowena was awesome! I loved her! She was the perfect Robin Hood! Alvor had to grow on me. He seemed pretty weak at the beginning. But as he grew, I grew to love him too! Rowena and Alvor’s love story is so sweet and I enjoyed every second! The other characters were sweet as well and I really liked getting to know them! The magic system was very interesting and unlike any that I’ve read before. This story was unique and such a fun twist! I definitely recommend and can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
Fairest Hunter is a light, sweet, playful, and gripping read from secret identities to unknown magic to clean romance and deep friendships this book has it all. The mashup of a gender swapped Robin Hood and Snow White was brilliant. I loved the ways they both supported each other on multiple levels from leadership to past hurts to practical dilemmas and playful banter. This is a great midweek read as the chapters are short yet meaningful with clever titles. The humor and banter are also on point. The violence is minimal and not gory. The romance is clean no spice and there is no swearing which makes it great for younger and older readers alike. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and am excited to start the next one in the series.
Fairest Hunter is a beautiful fairytale retelling! M.K. Felix takes the two stories and mixes them with her own wonderful twists. Huntress Rowena is strong while still being kind and sensitive. Prince Alvor is brave while also coming to terms with his past and figuring out his place. Together they must defeat the curse that is corrupting their kingdom. All the while hiding plenty of Easter eggs and twists to keep you on the edge of your seat. All in all, a truly wonderful fairytale!
"For the Royal and our Robin / Shall lead us to the day / When the evil king shall be deposed / And light shall guide the way."
This story was such a interesting twist on the classic tales of Snow White and Robin Hood. The author managed to capture the most important aspects of each character - Snow White's humility and Robin Hood's loyalty. The romance was sweet, and all the characters were unique. I especially loved the fun take on the seven dwarves and the merry men.
I absolutely loved this book! I love Robin Hood stories, and this one has a great twist on it, adding the story of Snow White and gender swapping the characters. Robin Hood is the King’s Huntress Rowena, and Prince Alvor is Snow White. I loved how M.K. Felix combined the well-known parts of both stories to create something new. I also enjoyed the Christian element of light battling the dark. I’m exited to read more of this series!
Language: None Spice Level: 1.5 (kisses only, some descriptive) Fun Snow White meets Robin Hood retelling where the gender roles are reversed. Loved the idea of her being able to wake him up from a curse he didn’t know he was under. I definitely wanted to read the bonus epilogue and look forward to William and Marian’s story next.
**Also want to add that the creative chapter titles this author comes up with are next level! Many authors skip that part, and I found it unique, impressive and so fun!
Hello gender swapped Robin Hood and Snow White fairy tale mashup!! I loved this book! It had elements of both fairy tales but it had unique twists and turns that made this a story all on its own! The world building in this was so great and I loved the complexities of the characters! If you love adventure, forced proximity, and TONS of witty banter, this is definitely one for you!
I was hooked from the beginning! It did take me a little longer to finish than books normally take me but that was due to some other life things that made my spare time a lot less frequent than normal. I absolutely adored Rowena and Alvor, the main characters. And the merry men and other various side characters were so well written, I just absolutely adored them. The light magic system that changed from person because each person is unique is beautiful.
Content: -Romance level:2, just kisses -Swearing: none -Triggers: death of parents/loved ones(past), abuse by parent, mild violence, unwanted male attention, starvation, oppression, greed, grief, blood(but not gory), dark magic -Age Rating: Young Teen+
DNF 25% in. The believability was hard for me and I was mad that all the outcasts hated the prince simply because they hate the king, like it was his fault, having been under same curse? Also the magic wasn't working for me. Just not my cuppa, was here for Robinhood elements. This doesn't mean it couldn't be your cuppa tea, if magic is something you enjoy in stories etc.
I could not get enough of this story. I started before bed and before I knew it, I’d read half and did not want to stop.
The twist/mash-up of Robin Hood and Snow White was perfectly executed and clever with nods sprinkled throughout.
I loved the relationship between Alvor and Rowena. From childhood friends to distant acquaintances, they’re now working together to rid their kingdom of a darkness they can no longer bear.
“You were the light that got me through the darkest days of my existence.”
Filled with adventure, wonderful side characters/found family, swoony romance, and a battle between light and darkness, I was fully enthralled until the end.
Absolutely loved this one! What a thrilling, twisty original take on these fairytales! I loved Alvor & Rowena together and all the merry men. Gender swapped and themes of light vs dark made this such a full, enjoyable read!
A swoony Robin Hood & Snow White gender swapped mash up. I'm excited for the more books in this series! Told in first person present, dual pov. Warning- will make you hungry for good food. Loved that light conquered darkness, like it should.
I loved it! I got the special edition from MK Felix and it has beautiful illustrations. I loved the richness of the story and the world she wove with her words. I’m looking forward to reading the Novella and next book!
I really enjoyed this. I love fairytale spin offs and clean romances and this was both! Loveable characters, magic, great story. I was sucked in! Can't wait for the next book! (Rowena and Alvor are an amazing couple but Marian and William are just adorable!)
I don't usually like fairytale retellings, but I didn't mind this one. I liked the fast-pace. Not enough questions were answered at the end though. Maybe they will be in the other books?
Fairest Hunter is a sweet, no-spice retelling of Robin Hood and Snow White. M.K. Felix beautifully balances the gender swap, honoring the femininity of the FMC and the masculinity of the MMC without losing what makes these classic tales so timeless. A charming, thoughtful twist on two beloved stories. 📖🤍
