A good book to look back at old Redmond, WA. It has facts that only people who grew up in the area, know about. As the book came out in the 80's, a lot has changed. But it starts off with settlers coming to stay in redmond back in 1880's, that were given land as a relocation act. Knowing the first people to call Redmond home, was fascinating and seeing how the jobs changed from lumbermills to farms, then into the sales and tech business. But we spend a good amount of time in the 1880-1920s before the third of the book talks mostly about what happens after the 40's and 50's. I'm sure if a book about Redmond came out today, we'd see more about the 70's plus. To know that people in the 70's protested the growth of Redmond makes me happy, considering that we are having too big of a growth again with very limited space, and our city counsel members turning our suburb into a city as they are saying, by 2050. It's sad to know that Redmond still has major traffic issues, too many people in too little of space and that more tech giants have moved in here, buying more land and taking out our green forests. Id say this book was well worth the read.
