The Killing Fields Of The Chupacabra: A Nicole Beretti Thriller

Rate this book
In the dead of night, bodies are found drained and broken, abandoned in an open field and inside a quiet trailer park. There are no footprints. No tracks. No obvious sign of how the predator arrived or where it went. This is not a creature drawn to livestock or easy prey. It's focused on hunting humans.

For FBI Special Agent Nicole Beretti and her partner Noah Jacobi, this case breaks from everything they have faced before. They have hunted cryptids that leave signs, patterns, and boundaries. This one follows none of those rules. Every assumption is useless, every instinct suspect, and the ground beneath them can no longer be trusted.

As panic spreads and the death toll rises, Beretti and Jacobi are joined by a new team member whose expertise may be their only advantage against a killer that refuses to be seen. Together, they race to uncover the truth behind a predator that uses the land itself as cover, striking without warning and vanishing before anyone can react.

The deeper they dig, the clearer it becomes. This is not an animal acting on hunger alone. It is a hunter exploiting the one place humans never think to look.

And by the time they realize how close it has been all along, it may already be too late.

5 ⭐️ always. These silly books bring me such joy I can’t fully express my love. I loved the introduction to a new cryptid and the relationship between our two main characters is so incredibly sweet. They just get better and better.

My scoring system
⭐ Don't quit your day job
⭐⭐ It was tough to finish
⭐⭐⭐ A solid read
⭐⭐⭐⭐ That was fun!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I need more. If you don't give it, I'm going to kidnap you Misery-style, without shattering your ankles, of course.

There's a new kid on the block (well, in more ways than one actually) as Beretti and Jacobi are dealing with a Chupacabra. After taking on both Bigfoot and Dogman in her previous books, Jacobs introduces a new cryptid, the infamous goatsucker, although our bovine friends dat not seem to be at the top of the menu.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Jacobs' earlier books but it is refreshing to see a new cryptid. The interaction between Jacobi and Beretti, as well as the new teammember again flows effortlessly and as I've mentioned before, the growth in their professional relationship is wonderful to see.

I really tried pacing myself again, which wasn't a complete succes. At one point, you're feeling fine after 20% of the book but before you know it, the epilogue rears its ugly head. 😉

Impressive, scary, and fun!

As usual, I am very pleased and impressed with this offering by one of my favorite authors. Her plot is well thought out, the action is inter spaced well throughout the story, and the monster is one that is definitely not common!

I love the verbal interplay between Beretti and Jacobi, and the introduction of the new character went smoothly. Brooks seems to be a character who fits well with the team and I look forward to seeing more of her in the future.

Creature

Beretti and Jacobi have recovered from their encounter in Australia. Their next job takes them to Texas to face a creature that is attacking unseen. This creature is fast and seems to be moving underground. They have a new partner. They are racing the clock before it attacks again. Action-packed creature feature.
