With the fate of the realms hanging in the balance, Asha and Leylandir must risk everything to protect the magic—and the future—they’ve fought so hard to save.
Paula Mason is an author from Australia who can’t quite decide if magic should be used for solving small-town mysteries, fighting dragons, or surviving a near-future war zone—so she writes all the things.
By day, Paula is a social worker with a deep grounding in social justice and a fascination with how culture, identity, and resilience help people navigate the messier parts of being human. Regardless of the genre, you can always count on two things: there will be magic (and usually witches), and there will be a story about people finding their way through the wreckage we call life.

Review: This is the fifth book in the series, and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Just as the world begins to right itself, everything quickly starts to change. The stakes are higher than ever, with greater sacrifices, wavering loyalties, and an increasingly uncertain path forward. I particularly enjoyed how the royal family justifies hindering progress through manipulation, adding another layer of intrigue to the story. I also loved that the author brought back several characters who had been absent since the earlier books. I'm already counting down the days until the final book in the series.
Book 5 of the series in which we are following Asha and Leylandir. Oh my goodness what no that really shouldn’t have happened Leylandir having to agree to a blood oath with his father which will keep Asha alive but a prisoner and much much more twists and turns. I am loving this series it has been brilliantly written and really does keep you intrigued from page 1 to the end. I so can’t wait to find out what happens Highly recommended. Add this series to your TBR list you won’t regret it.
I have no idea why, but I went into this book thinking it was the last one. Spoiler: it isn’t! LOL! We have Asha and Leylandir finally together and taking a breather when, you guessed it, events move forward, and everything starts to fall apart. And, wow, do things really fall apart. This latest is very twisty-turny, and I have a deep dislike for a certain queen. I was taken in with this one even if at times I had a little whiplash from how often a certain counsel kept changing their minds. I am now looking forward to the last book in the series, which really isn’t this one. LOL! Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This series just keeps getting better. The first few chapters start with a bang, and then the roller coaster ride keeps up until you get to the end. I only stopped reading for a quick meal break because I had to, so be sure you allow yourself time to read "just one more chapter". Now I'm on tenterhooks waiting for the next volume to (probably) finish the series. Just fantastic!
Wow. I wasn’t prepared for the level of chaos encountered in this book. Asha continues to astonish me with the depth of her abilities and strength. The surprises that occur are unforeseen and bordering on the miraculous. I can’t wait for the next book. It promises more of everything! I loved this book!
How will the future and magic be saved. An amazing story that will have you binging to find out what happens. I was definitely drawn in by the characters and their lives. Won’t disappoint.
