He’s the campus god with blood on his hands.
I’m the TA who should’ve walked away.

Everyone worships Dominic Volkov—the Russian quarterback with a million‑dollar smile, a body built for victory, and a future everyone wants a piece of. He’s untouchable on the field and off it. The kind of man who owns every room he walks into.

But I know better.

The first time I met him, there was a dead man lying at his feet and blood on his hands. But instead of running, I made a deal with the devil and bound myself to a man who doesn’t believe in mercy.

I was raised to fear sin and resist temptation. To believe wanting the wrong thing would damn me.

I’ve never been good at running from sin.
And Dominic has made it clear that I’m his favorite.

ARC REVIEW!!!!!!!!

WRITING STYLE ✨
One thing Avery Collins does exceptionally well, is Dialogue. There’s a weight to the way she writes conversations where nothing feels superficial or unnecessary. She has this ability to make you expect a conversation to go one way… and then completely shift it into something deeper, more vulnerable, and more meaningful than you anticipated. Her writing flows so naturally that even emotionally heavy moments remain easy to absorb without losing their impact.

The dialogue between Brendon and Dominic was sharp, emotional, layered, and incredibly immersive. 10/10

PACING & YEARNING✨
Yes, there’s immediate attraction and chemistry from the beginning and I was like, “we licking boots already??? Dominic chill!!!” 😂😂😂 But Avery Collins didn’t let it ruin the book or take the element of anticipation away.
Instead, she builds yearning on top of that instant connection, and that balance was done fantastically. The emotional tension keeps growing chapter after chapter until Brendon and Dominic reach a point where walking away from each other was NOT an option!
Every moment between both MMCs felt earned. 👌🏾

CHARACTERIZATION✨
What I loved most about Brendon and Dominic was discovering who they really were beneath first impressions. Dominic could have easily been reduced to ‘the dangerous one,’ and Brendon the ‘boring church boy’ but Avery Collins said ‘my boys are more than that’. She gave both MMCs depth, vulnerability, and emotional complexity that made them impossible not to understand. Brendon’s journey especially stayed with me. Reading him struggle with faith, identity, expectations, desire, and self-acceptance felt incredibly raw and authentic. As a PK myself, I connected deeply with Brendon’s upbringing and it’s refreshing to see her handle that conversation with so much care and balance. ❤️

THEMES✨
Of course, there were a couple of other themes, but Faith and Identity is prominent in the book. Two delicate subjects in romance, especially queer romance, but Avery Collins handled it beautifully. Brendon’s faith was never treated as something shallow or meaningless and at the same time, the story never became preachy or overly controversial. The balance between faith, identity, shame, longing, and self-discovery was handled with a lot of nuance and emotional intelligence.
Although, Brendon and I may or may not have bonded over what the Lord would think about his bedroom escapades and my Kindle history. 😭But hey, fiction is fiction. 😂😉

SPICE ✨🌶️
Oh, there were definitely “I need to go touch some grass moments” 😂😂🥵🥵, but the spice in this book deserves its own conversation because it was done SO FREAKING well. Avery Collins approached BDSM, dominance, submission, and power dynamics with care, respect, communication, and consent at the center. What stood out to me most was that even within those dynamics, Brendon and Dominic still felt emotionally equal. I felt like beyond the power play, this was ultimately a story about two people meeting each other with trust, care, vulnerability, and devotion. The intimacy never felt exploitative or excessive, but it felt intentional, emotional, and deeply connected to the characters themselves. Also, I really appreciated how the book gently educated readers on submission without demonizing it or reducing it to stereotypes.

EXPERIENCE ✨
Let me EMPHASIZE, that I read for fun and entertainment and I do not condone the violent behavior or tendencies potrayed in this book. That is why it is a FICTIONAL dark romance, which I am positive is NOT a reflection of the ideals and values of myself or the author. This is a Serial Killer/ Preacher’s Kid trope and there are trigger warnings attached. It is either for you or not, and that’s okay! 💯
That being said, I had a great time reading this book. 👌🏾😌 Laughter, emotional scenes, loud reactions that I’m sure grated on my neighbours’ nerves (I’m not sorry 🤭) and scenes that had me clutching my damn pearls!!!😂😂

It’s Avery Collins, of course it’s 5 freaking ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! 😌

This was a ride! Dominic and Brendon went on journey of self discovery, emotional healing and personal development. Dominic and Brendon were raised with completely opposite morals, values and beliefs yet they both experienced variations of trauma. Neither of them had anyone they could truly lean on when needed and both lived with underlying fear of what additional damage their parents could bring to their lives. Having this in common gave them a way to connect with one another. They may not be fully aware of each other’s past experiences but they know enough to be each other’s support system which was great to see.

The chase was a fun time and I loved the nicknames Brendon gave Dominic. They were fitting and oddly cute. Their dynamic was fun and we love a judgmental cat!!

Well that was awesome! How did you fall in love with a sinner? This and a whole buttload of decisions! First thought “Yeah, this is gonna be awesome!”. And that first “good boy” then wanting to go straight into tutoring, full on rolling!!! “It tells me that when someone puts a leash on you, you don’t fight it. You straighten it yourself”, “It’s even more fun when the thing I’m twisting was never straight to begin with”, AHH!!! What are we in for?! It’s read and shade. Dom reading Brendan, and Brendan shading Dom. “You know Dominic, running football drills, lifting weights, killing people. Regular wind and grind.” I love Brendan’s inner thoughts. He’s so witty, clever with this dry humor mixed in. He’s unintentionally funny. Even Dom’s dialogue and thoughts about him sometimes are hilarious. Dom telling Brendan he can’t offer himself up like a human stress ball. At this point I’m laughing because they’re both just red flags. Dom at one point was like, Yeah. Whoa! Why don’t we step back for a bit. You’re a whole lot of “kinda fucked up” right now! Dom does have these moments of surprise tenderness mixed in with the killer tendencies which I know all of our rotten brains read sweet as hell and swoon. He provided protection, reassurance and the opportunity that Brendan needed to flourish, to bloom since he had been kept in a small pot his whole life with no room for his roots to spread. “It makes a lot of sense that he’d be drawn to the monster that stepped in when all his own saints failed him”; another great little summary put into dialogue.

Even though this book takes a pretty respectful approach into the intimacy and its intensity, it’s still high on the Scoville scale. Descriptions were on point, obscene, intense, and anything but meek and mild. Dom and his “6 bars of Hell” (I could NOT stop laughing!) When you get into the middle of their relationship, it’s freaking adorable. I’ve never giggled this much with a psycho-killer/sub trope, but geez it was fun! “That’s the most fucked up, romantic thing anyone’s ever done for me” That’s basically this whole book.

It’s about breaking someone, but breaking them of what they thought they should want, of what they thought they deserved, of what is proper, of what life could offer them. It’s about breaking someone so they can piece themself back together to be who they actually want to be, to actually be happy, to love their own life how they see fit. Dom showed Brendan being broken is an opportunity to grow and set your own rules and boundaries for your life. I thought that was a really beautiful thought. A beautiful lesson. A reason worth breaking for. You think this is going to be a typical ‘psycho falling for a norm’ romance but it is way more than that. It’s “mutual need and shared disfunction” as Dom so gracefully put it. Love doesn’t have to hit you like a lightning bolt. It can creep up on you without you noticing, without you thinking, without meaning to. It can be slow, can preserve, can dig into you and be stronger than anything else you feel. It doesn’t have to happen all at once cuz it’ll then smack you in the face. It can slowly build so it has foundations that you can’t readily bulldoze. “One bad decision at a time, a thousand small moments”.

“I don’t know what to do with love if it isn’t poison. I need to know there’s atleast one person on my life I can bow to without it being used against me. I choose him, I choose me.”This book is filled with these lines that completely take you, engulf you, surround you. “If you died, I wouldn’t have better off, I wouldn’t be at all” For all the dark and psychotic undertones of this sorry, it has to be one of the sweetest I’ve ever read. It was engaging, full throttle and unapologetic. A great read.

Does it count as murder if it was death by Avery Collins????

I knew going into this that it was going to be one of my favourites of Avery’s and did she do me wrong? No ma’am she did not. She knows how to write plot, knows how to write spice, knows how to write complex characters. SHE JUST KNOWS.

Let’s talk about the MMCs cause I’ve been itching out of my skin to do so.

Dominic, holy mother of GOD. THIS MAN. He’s complicated, he’s filthy, he’s bloody, he’s a Dom (wow funny how that works it’s like his name). But man is he down BADDDDD for his man. You get to see glimpses of his softie side and how well he takes care of Brendon. It’s like stuffed animal cute. He just wants to provide aftercare for his Little Sin and I DIE FROM IT. And the mouth on this man? It’s sweat worthy, kicking your feet kind of filthy talk. He’s also a serial killer but we don’t need to worry abut that. Because he’s a serial killer but he’s not a liar. He’s a good guy (for Brendon). He’s a protector and treats him like royalty so it makes up for it right?

Brendon, sweet angel. He was just coasting along waiting for someone to bring his submissive out. For someone to see him and thank the LORD Dominic was around!! Cause in comes daddy Dom and he brought Brendon’s true desires to the surface. With that being said, I absolutely loved who Brendon is a person. He’s such a brat and I LOVE brats. Brave and not willing to back down from Dominic. And a sl00t for degradation. He’s a caretaker in his own way too. Takes care of Dominic’s emotions with delicacy. A caretaker of his own self worth too. Knows exactly what he wants. He’s so self aware and I love that about him.

Their story is so insane and dark, of course, but it’s also sweet like candy. They fit each other perfectly. Bring out the best in each other. Dom & Brendon 4ever!!!

There was never a time I wasn’t entertained or just waiting for it to end. Quite frankly, I didn’t want to get off this insane ride. Cause it was just that damn good!!! I was locked the f in for the entire book, I’m not going to give anything away but there’s emotion, love, murder, blood, football, and the most spiciest of spice scenes you can think of. I’m not kidding I had to take a deep breath and tell myself GIRL YOURE OKAY. Like who writes spice like that? Seriously. Miss Avery Collins does. Listen, she always writes amazing spice we all know that, but this one hit different. It was unlike anything she’s ever written. I was shook down to my very bones. And I LIVEDDDD FOR IT!!!!

This book was amazing, incredible, show stopping, more descriptive words I can’t come up with right now. I loved every minute of it and I want to inject it into my veins. This review was pure chaos and I have no apologies for it.

Basically to sum it up, read it cause it’s sexy and entertaining, and spicy and so much more. Exactly what MM is all about.
🖤🫶🏻

Thank you for the ARC Avery!

A million touchdowns for this one.

Dirty Hit - Avery Collins
🌟 ♾️/5 🌟

* SPOILERS *

I will have to say that I have read my share of Avery books and man, this one really turned to be my absolute favorite. From the moment I saw the blurb of this book, I just knew that it was going to be amazing. I just didn’t think it was going to be one of my favorites they had me devouring this book in a day because I was completely in awe with every page I went through.

Dominic and Brendon had me clutching my kindle from the moment they Brendon decided to show up early for their tutoring sessions that he was suppose to help Dominic and gets the surprise of his life.

And can we talk about Jericho. This cat has its own personality they just makes you laugh because he is something else. I also laughed how how the scene they talked about Dominic kidnapping his nap but oh no, it’s not kidnapping if you relocate him!

One of the things I really loved about their relationship was just how it flowed natural for these two. It didn’t feel forced and it didn’t feel rushed. No, these two gravitated towards one anoth r whenever they were in the same vicinity of one another.

The morning after that special spice scene had me laughing because Brendon, you should have known what was going to happen. Although, maybe not. But the way that Dominic cared for him, I was swooning. I’m a sucker for a man caretaking. When Dominic apologized and on his KNEES, I’m, I was here for it!

Brendon’s parents were completely idiots and the phone call where Dominic recited a scripture was freaking epic! I was here for that because the dad was appalled.

Gah! I could go on and on but I will say that if you’ve been wanting to read an Avery book, I highly recommend this one because it was absolutely perfect start to finish. You get all the highs of a book that makes you feel every emotion from these boys, the spice is hot with a bit of primal play and just the depths that Dominic will do for his man.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Beta & ARC Read

OMG AVERY!!! You have completely outdone yourself with Dom and Brendon. These two are just 👩‍🍳💋 together. There was absolutely NOTHING about this book I didn’t love, and the spice?? D-A-M-N this has to be the spiciest book you’ve written to date … and I gobbled it all up. I mean the rosary … that left me in a fucking CHOKEHOLD!!! Seriously, I don’t think I’ve EVER made as many annotations in a book as I did with Dirty Hit.

There was no slowly easing into this story. I swear Avery basically thought “Let’s fuck shit up with one.” and opens up to murder. Then we go from murder to the good Christian boy who does everything to please everyone else. Then *BAM* we’re back to murder … and then there’s boot licking. And when Brendon first says “Daddy” I damn near lost my fucking mind!!! The thing about it though? It never felt too fast, it never felt like anything was missed, and while yes there was an instant connection between Dom and Brendon it never felt forced or pushed. It really felt totally organic in how their dynamic started then changed and shaped and molded these guys into who they really are. Plus the conversations these two had … totally unexpected but completely LOVED seeing it.

Also I have to talk about Avery’s writing style because it has drawn me in since day 1. The way she can create a scene so you can actually visualize it in your head like a movie is spot on. Her ability to use words to describe feelings each character is going through absolutely blows me way. She can literally rip your heart out with her words in one paragraph, put you back together the next, then obliterate everything you thought you knew next. It’s fucking poetry!!!

Honestly I know I didn’t say a ton about the book because if I actually start talking about the book and what happens I’m gonna give too much away. I just can’t help myself, it’s a curse sometimes. So I think it’s better if you just read it and see for yourself. So if you have no triggers I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you go into this book blind.

ARC Review for Dirty Hit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

“He’s the campus god with blood on his hands.
Im the TA who should’ve walked away.”

This is my fifth book I have read by Avery Collins and one of my favorite things about her writing is the morally grey characters she creates. She did not disappoint with Dominic Volkov. He is the star football player, who seizes attention and control wherever he goes. He knows how to smile and charm everyone but under the mask he wears he is a serial killer. Brendon is a preachers son, a nerdy law student TA, and someone who doesn’t say no even when he wants to. The way they meet is one of my favorite parts about Dirty Hit and not what I was expecting. Check TW this book has darker themes.
I enjoyed the first half of the book but it wasn’t until I was 50% through where I felt like I couldn’t put the book down. Once I learned more about Dominic Volkov the more invested I became in Brendon and his relationship. The pacing of the second half of the book was great, every chapter I couldn’t wait for what came next and I was thrown off a few times and thought things would play out differently. I haven’t highlighted this many quotes in a book in a long time there were so many sweet steamy scenes, and so many things that made me laugh. I also really liked the progression of Brendon’s character and it seems like he really grew into his true self❤️‍🔥.

Some things I loved about Dirty Hit
-Aftercare from a monster😈
-Dominic’s apology to Brendon (The hottest apology I have ever read) 🥵
-Anytime Dominic spoke Russian😏
-The serial killer being soft for him
-The epilogue (I actually really liked this it fit with the progression of there relationship)

Thank you so much for the oppurtunity to read Dirty Hit, I can’t wait to read more books by you ❤️.

The Beast and his Little Sinner

This book was absolutely fantastic and I read it in one sitting. Which is saying something cuz it's not a short book but I just could not put it down.

These two men could not be more different. You have your nerdy good old Christian boy versus your hot shot football player who just happens to moonlight as a serial unaliver.

I love how Avery can take two fairly simple backstories and layer them in with so much growth and understanding that feels completely natural. These characters go from a simple stereotype to something so much more unexpected. The dialogue is intense and deep and sometimes surprising.

I really enjoyed getting to know each of these characters and to see how their upbringing shaped the way these two fit together perfectly. We have one who was raised to unalive and then the other who had religion shoved at him all his life. Brendon is a people pleaser but he doesn't fit in the box he grew up in and him finding himself is not an easy road.

Brendon's utter submission was absolutely beautiful to watch. However, Dominic breaking all of his rules was even sweeter. Brendon showed us that underneath everything. Dominic had a soft and very protective side that only came out for Brendon. He never let anyone close because of his mother but Brendon barreled through those walls.

Quotes:
"Please Daddy"
"Let me take it. Let me be good for my Beast."

"Who the fuck needs that much metal in their dick, Dominic? What are you, a walking hardware store? You should come with a warning label."

"I stare at him, at this six-four Russian nightmare who murders people and then goes home and listens to BDSM aftercare podcasts in his Charger so he doesn't mess me up more than necessary. "
" That's the most fucked up romantic thing anyone's ever done for me. "

He keeps me breathing. I keep him human.

Dirty Hit was such a messy yet addictive read!!!

I went into it not knowing what to expect at all, but ended up way more emotionally invested than I thought I would. The tension between Dominic and Brendon was honestly the best part of the whole book. Every interaction between them had me stressed in the best way because you could tell there was so much underneath everything they were saying.

Dominic was probably my favorite character because even when he was being frustrating, I still completely understood him. He had that guarded, complicated energy that made him feel really real instead of just being the typical love interest. And Brendon?? I loved him so much. He balanced Dominic out perfectly and I felt like he brought a lot of the emotional weight to the story. Their chemistry was insane and some scenes genuinely had me pausing for a second because the tension was THAT good.

What I liked most was that their relationship didn’t feel perfect or overly polished. They were messy, stubborn, emotional, and sometimes made terrible decisions, but that’s what made them believable.

The writing style was super easy to get into and I flew through the book way faster than expected. It’s definitely one of those books where you say “one more chapter” and suddenly it’s 2am. Such an entertaining and spicy read, and one I know I’ll still be thinking about for a while.

If you like tension, complicated characters, emotional damage, and relationships that make you want to scream at your book, you’ll probably love this one too.

I must say, please read the trigger warnings before going into this because there’s quite a few!! but I enjoyed myself so thoroughly with this book, and am so excited for more ☺️

This is one of the books my dark romance girlies will absolutely love — but it comes with a page-long shopping list of TWs, so please check them before you dive in ❗😅

I have to be honest — I was a little wary at the beginning. I am someone who reads every single word an author puts on the page, notes, acknowledgements, TWs, and all. And the TWs here are quite… intimidating 👀 But I took a breath and dived right in anyway — and I did not regret it for a single second 💀🩷

The dynamic between Dominic and Brendon is something else entirely 😤😮‍💨 The pull between the Beast and his Little Sin is scorching, electric, and impossible to look away from 🔥 And yes — we have an ice cold unaliver on our hands. But what makes this story so incredibly complex and captivating is that underneath all that darkness, there is a soft and fiercely protective spot hiding 🥺 Some might call it a weakness. I call it everything.

When I turned the last page, I was genuinely not ready 😭 This is already a thick beauty of a book, and I still could have stayed with these two for so much longer. The story does not just end — it lingers.

Go read this if you love morally complex characters who will ruin you in the best way possible, a dynamic that is equal parts terrifying and addictive, and a dark romance that actually has layers 😈🔥 Your heart will race, your jaw will drop, and you will absolutely be back for more 💀

“I’m not your student,” he says. “I’m your very bad life choice.”

Avery has done it again! Another amazing dark romance with two emotionally damaged boys that you will instantly fall in love with.

Dominic Volkov by day is the "golden boy" quarterback at the University of Lakehaven, volunteers, smiles, checks all the boxes except this version of him is all a facade. He actually is a serial unaliver, emotionally unobtainable and hunts down people who are corrupt for sport. When he finds himself failing his classes that may make him ineligible for the NFL draft he is set up with a TA to help him pass his courses. This is where his chaotic world takes an unexpected turn.
Meet Brendon Lane - Preacher's son, resident TA extraordinaire, reliable and charming to the outside world. When in reality he has set these impossible standards to live by, does not want to disappoint his father and always feels he needs to please everyone. Sometimes things get too loud and he just wants it all to stop - the day he meets Dominic Volkov in the middle of an unaliving situation his world becomes less loud and more intriguing.
From the moment Dom and Brendon meet, their chemistry is off the charts - the push and pull of their attraction is gritty, dirty, raw and so hot it will leave you breathless at times. Dominic's obsession and need to protect Brendon is so beautifully captured and Brendon's feral need to be a "good boy" for Dominic is indescribable. If you love the Sinners of Blackthorne U, you will equally love these boys from Lakehaven - this book is a must read!

Lakehaven's Golden Boy quarterback Dominic is all smiles for the cameras and the audiences, but underneath all that lies his true shadow self that no one sees....no one until Brendon - the TA who's supposed to help him bring his grades up so he doesn't tank his future career opportunities -accidentally discovers the games Dominic plays as his true self. Outwardly, Brendon is a preacher's son: agreeable, a true people-pleaser who just wants to make his father proud but never feels he meets the mark. They couldn't be any more different, yet their connection is instant and it's fiery hot! As with all of Avery's books, the spice is so hot, I keep a full tumbler filled with ice water on hand to cool me down because whew!!*fanning self* However, as the spice progresses in the book, so too do the feelings these MCs have for each other as they open up emotionally. Dominic becomes so protective of Brendon - who just wants to be Dominc's "good boy" over time - and the caretaking is heart-melting. I love them, your honor! Oh - let me not forget to mention the show stealer cat, haha!! This book has dark themes, but also some lighter moments. It's a well-developed book, but it felt like a fast read because I just wanted to keep going and not put it down! Another fave from Avery - hope we get more in this world!!

What to Expect:
* jock x nerd
* serial unaliver x preacher's son
* Daddy/good boy
* religious themes + trauma
* lots of spice + dirty talk
* size difference
* queer awakening
* prima! play
* Pierced 🍆
* the cat!
* cute pet names

Spoiler Free ARC Review!

This is my first Avery Collins books and when I tell you I will be RUNNING to read all her other books, I ain't lying 😮‍💨

This book immediately captivated me from the trope list, I had no idea how a book could fit ALL my favorite tropes into one but Avery just made it work. It had me 🥵🥵🥵 the whole ride!

Dominic is a golden boy superstar college quarterback. Every one loves him with his easy grins and mega talent but Dom has a secret, that is just his mask that he's carefully curated to hide the killer underneath 😈 Unfortunately the golden boy has let his grades slip and his coach forces him to work with a TA to bring them up.

Brendon is a nerdy church boy who doesn't know the word no. His whole life revolves around telling people yes, being who everyone needs him to be. He gets assigned a new student to tutor. He arrives at Dom's and walks into a situation he can't unsee, but doesn't run from either. Maybe there's more to this church boy than meets the eye.

Their dynamic is so freaking hot, a same-age daddy kink will never not do it for me! 😮‍💨 The spice in this book is TOP TIER. But there's also emotional complexity and a perpetually annoyed cat that steals the show. The way Dom not only tales from his Little Sin but also takes CARE of him is what really did it for me. They are literal perfection.

Absolutely no notes, left no crumbs. Run don't walk! 🏃‍♀️ Releases May 21st! See you later Little Sin 😈

I really enjoyed this ARC of Dirty Hit and honestly found it hard to put down once I started. Avery’s writing style is one of those that feels effortless to read — the pacing flows really well, the dialogue feels natural, and it’s so easy to get pulled into both the story and the characters. She has a way of making the emotional moments hit while still keeping the book fun and engaging.

The storyline kept me invested from beginning to end, but the highlight for me was definitely Dominic and Brendon’s relationship. Their chemistry was strong right from the start, but I also loved the emotional side of their connection and watching their relationship develop throughout the book. They balanced each other really well, and their dynamic felt believable and addictive to read.

I’ll admit I was hesitant going into this because I’m normally not a fan of the daddy trope, but Avery completely changed my mind with the way she handled it here. It never felt forced or over the top, and instead became something that genuinely fit the characters and their relationship. The emotional trust and care between Dominic and Brendon made the trope work in a way I wasn’t expecting.

This book had a really good mix of emotion, chemistry, humour, and character connection, and by the end I was completely invested in them as a couple. Avery Collins is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors because every book I read from her just keeps getting better.”

I ATE THIS BOOK THE F*CK UP! There is no other way to describe it! I was hooked from the very first chapter! This was my first time reading a book by Avery, but I can tell you right now, it definitely won't be my last!

Dominic is a Russian football God. The golden boy of Lakehaven. He has potential to go pro, but when his grades start slipping, his coach assigns him a TA to help with studying and to get his grades back up. This is where we meet Brendon. The sweet, church boy who never says no to anyone and is always helping others despite what is going on in his own life.

When Brendon arrives at Dominic's cottage on his first night of tutoring, he walks into something he definitely shouldn't have. Right off the bat, things are wild and crazy and I loved every second of it. I loved these two so much, especially Dominic. There is so much more to him than meets the eye. I loved his dark side, but also how he cared for Brendon and protected him with all he had. He had many different layers and was more complex than you think. Brendon was a sweetie and I felt for him.

He had parents who would never accept him for who he truly was, so he buried that part of himself until Dominic came along. Dom brought out a submissive side of Brendon and allowed him to let go of control for once. The spice was hot and had me blushing a couple times. I highly recommend checking this out! You will not be disappointed!!

ARC Review

My first Avery Collins book and I loved this ride 🥵 Dirty Hit was everything I wanted out of this book when I first read the blurb for it! A star quarterback who’s a murderer and a sweet soft pastor’s son? I’m here for it.

I loved Dominic and Brendon, they were insane sometimes, but they also were so sweet and it felt like they really truly cared about one another. How Dominic would listen to Brendon, not just his words, but his body language. How Brendon would trust and let Dominic help him. It was a really nice dynamic in what is overall a very dark story. It was refreshing, but also just helped come down from those more intense parts of the story.

Also… the spice? Spicy. I loved it. The D/S dynamic in this one is so fun. It gives it this twist that I really enjoyed and made sense in this power dynamic. It was very nice and loved every second.

I do hope there is some sort of second book. Maybe Seth? I felt at the end there were some unanswered questions, like did anyone end up coming after Dominic for what he had to do? What happens with his sister? I would love to see more in this ‘universe’ and get some more about Brendon and Dominic! Excited to see what the possibilities are!

**This review will be updated with my favorite quotes on release day!

Class is in session at Lakehaven University! Dominic and Brendon are setting the campus on fire! Settle in and prepare yourself, this is a thick one! I devoured Dirty Hit, I found myself staying up way past my bedtime because the pages just kept turning. I just had to know what was going to happen next!

Avery takes us to a dark place with this one. Full of all the angsty, toxic, red flags that we all know and love! Dirty Hit gives us a taste of all the things...we've got breath play, blood/knife play, a pierced MC, size difference. Daddy kink and praise kink- just to name a few! If you're like me and look at a list of trigger warnings like a menu, you'll be a happy, happy person. But, please take care and read the trigger warnings because you are important and your safety matters.

Avery takes us on a journey while we watch Dominic and Brendon struggle with their inner turmoil, while fighting for their relationship. Each MC fights a personal battle with toxicity, while fighting for their happiness. Does happiness win? I can't tell you...that'd be cheating, and I don't want to have to meet with our favorite TA!

We do get a brief visit/cameo from one of our favorite Sin Bin boys! Didn't see it coming, I was not sad it happened! I can't say enough about Dirty Hit, read it, I promise you won't be sorry.

Wow wow wow I’m not shocked at all this book is a masterpiece.

Dominica the golden boy star quarterback handsome in every way possible. He smiles for the camera charms his way through everyone around him on the field and in school. But he’s hiding behind his mask. He’s a Beast. His grades are slipping and is assigned a TA boy oh boy what a way to meet when Brendon walks in witnessing Dominic’s true self…

Brendon the good Christian boy the yes man always the people pleaser. That’s until he checks his emails and sees Dominic’s name. Whoosh this g t really interesting and intense Brendon is fighting his own demons or shal I say sins.

This book had it all you get the Daddy and the brat but you also get to see to broken boys see each other. There’s anger taunting praising degradation but through it all they fall in love in such a beautiful way. Dominic helps Brendon and it’s living his true self as Brendon s es all the mask Dominic wears. The vulnerability they show to each other is so much brewing it makes your heart clench.

Avery never ever disappoints with her books. They are raw, messy, dangerous but swoon worthy. The writing is just a chefs kiss. Dominic and Brendon do get their hard fought HEA
Please check your TW/CW this book is a dark mm romance. .

Wow, wow, wow, what a book!!

This story is deliciously insane: dark, toxic, incredibly intense, and yet surprisingly sweet.

The chemistry between Dominic and Brendon is 🤯 from their very first encounter: Dominic, the golden boy with a perfect mask hiding a killer; Brendon, the preacher's son who seems innocent but has a bratty, brave side, hungry to be seen.

Their dynamic is pure fire, damn right it is—the tension, the provocation, the aftercare, the vulnerability, and the spice 🤌🏻🤌🏻*chef kiss*. Dominic is possessive, protective, and brutally honest, but also capable of apologizing and opening up. Brendon grows, asserts himself, finds his voice and his desire. Together they are chaos, trauma, desire, and affection in equal measure.

The story is addictive, dark, but be warned, it's important to read the sensitive content warnings first. If you're the type who sees those lists as a menu, this book is a feast. Breathing games, blood, knives, a size difference, a "daddy" the same age, praise, degradation… and a grumpy cat that steals the scene, ugh! 🥵🥵

Dominic and Brendon complement each other in a way that shouldn't work, but it works too well. A read that keeps you up until the wee hours and stays with you long after.

I read this story beforehand, but my opinions are my own and mine alone.

“You can just react and let your body do the talking for you. And your body…baby, your body’s not arguing with me.”

Erotic. Gripping. Dark. Sexy. Possessive. Intoxicating. Just a few words to describe Avery Collin’s newest book, Dirty Hit.

When the golden boy and campus God, Dominic Volkov, finds himself in academic jeopardy, his last resort is an infamous TA. Brendon Lane is a straight-laced, Christian boy known for being at the top of his class. Unbeknownst to both, he will soon become Dominic’s addiction and obsession.

Dirty Hit is all the things we’ve come to love about being one of Avery’s little sinners…morally grey men, sexy encounters, and a tad bit of depravity. However, nothing could have prepared me for the way Avery upped the ante with this novel.

Things I Loved:

Yes Daddy…: You read that right. Dirty Hit is for my fellow readers who love daddy kink. Much like Dom, my jaw was on the floor when Brendon gave way to his submissiveness. Seeing a different side of Collin’s ability to pen kink and heat, Dirty Hit hit so many marks for me when it comes to the exploration of kink and intimacy.

On the Topic of Spirituality: For me, the conversations surrounding sin, spirituality, and shame are layered and nuanced. I love how Avery tackles things such as loss under comfort, fear under safety, and old shame under new want. Again, something different and well penned by Collins.

An introduction for what is perhaps to come at Lakehaven U, Avery adds another five-star read to my shelf and “killer” novel to her catalog.

Brendon & Dominic

Did I love them? Yes, yes I did.
Do I want more of them, I absolutely do.
This book was over 500 pages and I could easily read 500 more pages of Dominic anyday!

I loved how they met and how strong Brendon was. He was brave and courageous even though he was afraid he didnt back down.

They had soo much chemistry!!! And the mouth on Dom was a thing of beauty...

Theres so much more to Dom other than he's a killer. His story was heart wrenching and there was so much left unsaid that was heartbreaking 😭

Brendon was the calm to Dom's chaos. I loved their dynamic and how they cared for each other. I especially loved how Dom was such a sweet thoughtful guy towards Brendon. He was always making sure he ate and took care of him.

Brendon's parents sucked. I hated them.

I liked Dom's sister. And the way Brendon described their relationship, I loved her more.

This book was intense, emotional and hot! These two had their moments of chaos and also some very eye opening moments that made everything better. I enjoyed reading this book so very much. I loved Dom and Brendon and their little cat menace Jericho was definitely the star in very funny precious moments.

This book? This book right HERE?
It’s the perfect blend of dark, dirty, deliciously smutty, serial killer depravity & punch you in the feels emotional, tender, healing and loving yourself, love story goodness.

Our two MMC’s are: Brendan, TA and tutor at Lakehaven U, helpful to a fault and has a hard time saying no to anything, good boy with a preacher father—and Dominic, golden boy and quarterback for Lakehaven U, known for his charming personality and skills on the field, hides some very dark secrets and who he *really* is from the world, until…

…Brendan ends up being assigned to Dom as his tutor, and he soon learns what kind of Beast lurks under the mask he puts on for everyone else. 😈

You can expect:
🏈 MM
✝️ dual POV
🏈 HEA
✝️ strangers to lovers
🏈 blackmail
✝️ hurt/comfort
🏈 forbidden obsession
✝️ killer/church boy
🏈 size difference/power imbalance
✝️ forced proximity
🏈 first times
✝️ praise kink
🏈 secret relationship
✝️ pierced 🍆
🏈 daddy kink
✝️ brat taming
🏈 only soft for him
✝️ focus on boundaries and aftercare

As someone who grew up in a very strict religious household, so many aspects of Brendan’s life and experiences resonated with my own. It was healing to read about a character coming into their own that way—shedding the expectations of who everyone else thinks or expects you should be, and living life as who you really are. Letting go of shame, and learning to love and embrace what makes you happy. I also *really* loved the focus around consent and aftercare in this book! It explained why those things are important in ways I’ve never ever heard, but was still natural to the story. So… I guess this can be labeled an educational text…? 😝😁

Don’t let the page count scare you- this is going to knock your socks off. Between the secrets, and the pining, and the delicious delicious spice, there isn’t a page wasted. JUST READ IT!

*Reminder: This book contains topics and situations that might not be for everyone, so it’s always good to check the trigger warnings before you read anything!*

Dominic and Brendon were a total blast from their first initial interaction to their whirlwind of a relationship that had its shocking moments but also a large amount of genuine love, care, and patience as they navigated their unusual dynamic that grew into something wholly unique that was perfect for them both.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. A college quarterback serial killer falling for his TA is a premise I have never read before, and I love how unorthodox, zany, and unpredictable this story is. Yes, Dominic is possessive with a dark side, but he is also insanely caring, patient, protective, and completely besotted with his TA paramour. I found Dominic completely fascinating and loved seeing him unravel as his love and affections grew for the timid Brendon.

Brendon also goes on quite a journey as he discovers his need to please and be dominated while feeling safe and loved. Dominic is his ultimate black cat, who will do anything and destroy everything to protect Brendon, which is a favorite character trait of mine.

Overall, this story is a fun, exciting, and unpredictable story that kept me entertained and wholly invested in this dynamic.

Street Team Review
♾️⭐️

I officially have a new favorite book. Saying I’m obsessed with Dominic and Branden is honestly an understatement. I love these two so much.

This book delivered the perfect level of dark and checked every single box for me. On one side, we have Branden—the preacher’s son, the “good boy,” a TA and law student who’s been molded into perfection and struggles to say no. On the other, we have Dominic Volkov our deadly, star football player with the “golden arm.” And when these two come together? Pure, beautiful chaos.

Watching Branden come into his own and start shedding the expectations forced onto him was so satisfying. And Dom? His softer side, the one he only shows to Branden, completely wrecked me. The glimpses we get into Dom’s past just make you want to hug him, he deserved so much more than what life handed him and forced him to become.

This book was everything. I could go on and on, but I don’t want to spoil anything. Just trust me and read it. I truly couldn’t recommend it enough.

*Please read the trigger warnings this book isn’t meant for everyone.*

"You're not just my weakness, Brendon. You're my fucking reason"

1st person POV Dual
MM
Plot 4/5
Spice 2/5
Serial Unaliver Football Star / TA student
Religious upbringing/trauma
Power Imbalance
Fear Kink / Slight D/S Vibes

I am loving these spotlight killer books probably more than I should be! This one was freaking fantastic! Dom and Brendon are an unlikely match that shouldn't have worked as well as they did!
Dom has more baggage than LAX and a mother who wont be winning any awards any time soon. While Brendon's religious upbringing made him a people pleaser to a point he lost himself.

I adored the way Dom seemed to soften almost instantly to Brendon, while Brendon was able to find his voice and became a brat to Dom.

While this book is more plot driven, the spice in this is delicious and hotter than the hell Brendon thinks he's gonna burn in!

Second Favorite quote: (Jericho the cat of course is involved!🤣🤣🤣)
"-cat on my face, suffocating in my sleep. This is how the serial killer dies- not with a bullet or a knife, but a house pet staging an assassination."

This one surprised me in the best way. Dominic and Brendon come from completely different worlds, but the one thing they share is trauma and the constant pressure of the lives they were raised in. Neither of them really had anyone to rely on, so watching them slowly become that safe place for each other was easily the strongest part of the book.

Their dynamic is what makes everything work. The chemistry is there right away, but it’s the emotional side that really pulls you in. They balance each other well, and I loved how their relationship developed over time instead of feeling rushed. The chase, the nicknames, and even the little moments (including the judgmental cat) added so much personality and made it fun to read.

I’ll admit I was a little unsure going in because of the trope, but it ended up fitting their relationship way better than expected. It never felt forced.. if anything, it added to the trust and connection between them.

Overall, it’s a really easy, addictive read with a great mix of emotion, humor, and chemistry. By the end, I was fully invested in them and didn’t want it to end.

4/5 stars 3.5/5 spice

I loved the chemistry between these two straight away. For complete opposites they meshed really well together. You’d think the preacher’s son and nerdy TA would be someone timid and horrified by a serial unaliver but he stood his ground and was a brat to his core. Their banter was my favourite thing. They understood each other well and were open.

Dominic was every bit of protective and possessive as I expected him to be. I was happy to see that he also had a human side as well instead of just being a monster. He could take accountability, apologise and mean it, show emotion, and open his heart. What he had been through and how he turned into a monster was shocking.

Another thing that I loved was how Dominic always uplifted Brendon, supported him, and looked after him. He was the king of aftercare. Brendon became more confident in who he was and felt more alive than he ever has before. Overall, in my opinion, it was a sweet story with dark themes.

- Opposites attract
- Size difference
- Tutor X tutee
- Preacher’s son X serial unaliver
- Brat MMC
- Secret relationship

Thank you to Avery for the eARC.

And first things first—please check the trigger warnings before going into this one. There are definitely darker themes and situations here that won’t be for everyone.

That being said? This book honestly checked so many boxes for me.

On one side you’ve got Brendon—the preacher’s son, law student, TA, the “good boy” who’s basically been shaped into perfection his entire life and struggles to say no to anyone. And then there’s Dominic Volkov… star football player, deadly reputation, golden arm, and enough hidden damage underneath the surface to make you instantly curious about him.

And when these two collide??
Pure. Beautiful. Chaos.

The dynamic between them worked so well for me. Watching Brendon slowly start breaking free from everyone else’s expectations and figuring out who he actually wants to be was incredibly satisfying. And Dom?? The softer side he only lets Brendon see, absolutely got me. The little glimpses into his past made my chest hurt; he deserved so much more than the life that shaped him into who he became.

This book had me squealing one minute and sitting there with my jaw on the floor the next. The tension, the chemistry, the darker edge to everything… it just worked.

And yes, the spice definitely delivers 👀

My only real complaint is that the ending felt a little anticlimactic compared to everything building before it. I wanted just a little more payoff emotionally by the end.

Overall though? I really enjoyed this one. It had the perfect level of dark for me, great chemistry, emotional moments that actually landed, and characters I definitely want more from. 🖤
