Vinny quickly realises how dangerous the world outside is when he gets kidnapped by Jude, the human son of the resistance leader! The two are forced to work together on a mission that could just bring an end to the war between humans and vampires.
I was so honoured to be given an ARC for this one. Whilst I loved The Island of Forever by Jeremy, this one for me stood out for different reasons. There’s a lot of elements to the book so there’s a lot to unpack when reflecting on it. It’s also difficult to discuss without spoiling so many amazing twists that happen.
I’m a huge fan of Dystopian fiction, so this book already had me over with that. Plus it’s a dystopian world ruled by vampires! I mean that’s just brilliant and worth you reading from that! The whole war between vampires and human is executed perfectly 👌🏽 In full honesty, I’m kinda tired of vampires but yet Jeremy managed to get me hooked and enjoy the genre again!
Then there’s the romance 😏 I’m a sucker for romance (excuse the pun) and there’s a lot of it in this book. Plus there’s a love triangle which I also love 👏🏽 it had me so torn between either camp! Team Gabe or Team Jude? I didn’t know which guy I was rooting for 🫣 To add more, the romance is hot and sexy…and just wait for the conclusion to the love triangle…holy mother of 🤫
Swallowed By Night offers so much and delivers in every aspect. It’s out on 14/04 so please go check it out…you won’t disappointed!
This was such a fun, campy, sexy thrill ride! The main MC is a BRAT and I love him. The world building here is done very well, and the story had alot of bombshells, half of which I didn’t even see coming! HIGHLY recommend this one if you love Vampires, Dystopian Worlds, Multiple Men fighting over your affection, and Paris Hilton! IYKYK 😏😂
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks again to the author and their team for an ARC in exchange for an honest review! (Which BTW, they sent out PHYSICAL copies of the ARC. That was such a wonderful gesture. Thank you again!)
I had such a blast reading “Swallowed by Night”. It drops you into a dystopian world where a near-extinction plague “saved” humanity by turning survivors into vampires, and now those vampires rule while the last humans fight back. At the center is Vincent, a vampire whose blood literally sustains his entire species, which means he’s been locked away for decades in a luxurious but suffocating gilded cage inside the Elysium towers. When he finally escapes, he’s immediately kidnapped by Jude, a human rebel, and what follows is a high-stakes, action-packed journey that feels like a chaotic mix of political intrigue, survival horror, and forbidden attraction. I kept getting major Resident Evil vibes, especially with the whole “evil scientists created this mess and now everyone is dealing with the fallout” energy, plus the mechanical dogs that are absolute nightmare fuel and take out characters like it’s nothing. No one is safe here, and that tension made the story so addictive.
What really sold me, though, is how fun, cool, and unexpectedly sexy this book is. The romance is messy in the best way. Vincent already has Gabe, his devoted boyfriend back in his old life, but then there’s Jude, the enemy he definitely should not be catching feelings for… and yet he does. The emotional push and pull between loyalty, desire, and survival was so compelling, and honestly, in a world this brutal, why choose when you can build something real together? The chemistry is intense, the spice is hot without feeling forced, and that threesome moment was surprising but completely earned. Beneath all the action and heat, there’s also a lot of mystery about the plague, the war, and Vincent’s father that kept me hooked until the end. And that ending? Bittersweet, romantic, and genuinely beautiful. It left me satisfied but also a little emotionally wrecked in the best way.
Wow! Swallowed by Night was a fantastic book. This apocalyptic, gay romance was full of vampires, government experiments, action, romance, and even a little mystery. It had high energy and great pacing, which led to me devouring this book.
The world-building in this story was done really well. Harrison was able to quickly and vividly establish a world that was dangerous and bleak, but also hopeful. Not only could I picture this desolate world, but I could also imagine the fear and confusion and drive that the characters were feeling. I also liked the contrast between the thriving Elysium and the collapsing world around it. It felt very realistic to the societal divide and capitalistic society we face today. It was giving Maze Runner vibes, in the best way possible!
My favorite aspect of this book was the characters, especially Vinny. All of them are interesting and really add something unique to the story. A lot of thought and care was put into each one. But Vinny’s journey was the best. From the very beginning, you could tell Vinny wanted more; more for himself and for the world. I loved watching him step out of his comfort zone and take control of his own life, even if it meant risking everything.
The ending was a little bittersweet and definitely unexpected. But it also felt right.
I received an ARC version of this book and I rate it a 3.5 stars! But, sadly Goodreads still doesn't allow me to do that. This book achieved something I hoped that it would, and that was queer normativity. This is something I am working on in my debut novel and wished more authors realized is a lot more enjoyable...when being queer is simply...normal. I loved that this world didn't divide the world by straight or queer people, rather just humans, vamps, and exiles. It helped keep this story enjoyable.
Given that this is an ARC, there are some things the author is working on and finalizing before printing off more of his copies. I will start with what I love.
1) The world was different. It wasn't a normal world, very apocalyptic and weird. Lots of new settings, and definitely felt immersible. I liked how detailed Harrison was with his descriptions....very vivid imagery.
2) The spice was definitely there. I was thrown off that it was so soon, because I was expecting some enemies to lovers...when that's not exactly what was teased in the book blurb. I just love a good slow burn...but this was a fun change to that pacing.
3) The pacing of the story seemed to work well...with a lot of plot twists that left me gasping...a few predictable twists, but there were a couple I had no idea were coming.
Things that I think could be worked on:
4) The characters sometimes didn't follow the character ARC I imagined for them. EX: Vin realizing he may not really like Gabe...falling in love with Jude...then immediately running back to Gabe when he comes to rescue him seemed unrealistic. There were a couple more instances with our main cast that did things that seemed too rushed or early in their development.
5) Some of the dialogue was TOO cringe for me. It almost felt like a bad A24 movie script and it pulled me from the story. But, maybe its meant to be more campy....and cheesy.
6) Some of the writing...like the inner thoughts of Vin was a little jarring...I almost didn't need them. It didn't enhance the reading at all...so I felt like it tok me out of the reading more than I would like it to.
Overall, I'm grateful for Jeremey sending me this ARC. It's so inspirational to me to see authors writing such fun stories. I enjoyed this read and hope that there is more to this story...maybe a second book?

This book did something to me that I was not fully prepared for. Vinny has only ever known one version of love. Gabe was his entire reference point for what intimacy and partnership were supposed to feel like, and the story opens with him already quietly questioning whether what he has is actually what he needs. Then he gets kidnapped. Then he meets Jude. And everything he thought he knew starts to unravel.
Harrison keeps the plot moving in a way that made it genuinely hard to put down. The pacing is tight, the tension builds naturally, and there are twists that genuinely got me. The environmental descriptions are stunning too, immersive without ever feeling overdone.
Nessa is an absolute standout and honestly deserves her own book. Every scene she was in felt completely alive. And there is a threesome scene that is exactly as chaotic and spicy as you would hope.
The ending gave me the HEA I needed with just enough of a sad edge to make it feel earned rather than easy, and that bittersweet landing is what makes this one stick with you.
A compulsive, emotionally layered read. Highly recommend for fans of MM romance with real emotional complexity.
This was an absolute joy to read! I would say I’m usually not huge fan of vampire tropes in novels but the cover art and synopsis convinced me to enter into a Goodreads giveaway for this book. And I’m glad I did because I won and although I won during a slump month this was a beautifully written piece of art. I started reading this on the treadmill on a Wednesday morning and I was done by Thursday night; this was so good!
I saw someone describe it as camp and I think they’re absolutely right; so many artistic devices were deployed to make this story come together and it worked! I shed some tears near the end but it was a romance in the purest sense of the word. And shout out to the author, I cannot wait to read more from him, he managed to create characters with fully fleshed out personalities and I didn’t end up hating any of them. And in my opinion that’s talent! I highly recommend this one! 4.25 ⭐️
„Swallowed by night“ was an amazing and exhausting (in a good way I promise) experience.
I am not one to regurgitate the story or the blurb. Especially in this case I feel like going in blind (apart from trigger if that’s something you need to be careful of) is the way to go. It’s a wild ride. A Thriller full of secrets and exploitation and vampires and labs and mechanical dogs and frosty rides through barren lands but also vampires and sex clubs and hot rides in not so hot circumstances. All set in a deeply segregated distopian wasteland in winter.
I loved the twists and turns and almost breathless forward momentum in this book.
Will definitively look out for anything else Jeremey Harrison writes.
=> MM romance => Dystopian world => Vampires vs humans => Kidnapping to reluctant allies => Love triangle => Spice + emotional angst
Just finished Swallowed by Night by Jeremy Harrison and I’m not even gonna lie… this ate. I don’t pick up ARCs like that but this one was actually worth it. Dystopian world, vampires running things, war in the background, and messy MM romance at the center. Yeah it had me locked in.
🩸 The worldbuilding was genuinely immersive. It felt vivid without dragging or over-explaining. The whole vampire vs human conflict had weight and tension instead of just being there for vibes. I’ve been lowkey over vampire books lately but this pulled me right back in.
❤️ The romance is messy in the best way. Vincent starting off with Gabe as his only understanding of love already sets up that quiet doubt. Then Jude enters and everything shifts. The love triangle had me stressed in a good way. I was switching sides every few chapters. The spice is definitely there and comes in earlier than I expected, but it actually fits the tone and pacing.
🔥 What really got me was Vincent’s emotional journey. Going from sheltered and controlled to questioning everything he thought he knew about love felt real. You can see him unlearn and rebuild in real time. And that ending? HEA but with a bittersweet edge that made it feel earned instead of too clean.
⚔️ The plot moves fast in a way that keeps you hooked. Twists keep coming and some genuinely caught me off guard. Nessa is easily a standout and I need a whole book about her. Every time she showed up the energy shifted. Also yes… that one chaotic spicy scene delivered exactly what it needed to.
🧠 A couple things that could have been even stronger: Some character transitions felt a little rushed at times. Vincent’s emotional shifts between Gabe and Jude could have used a bit more space to fully develop, just to make those moments hit even harder. And while the inner thoughts gave insight into Vincent, trimming or refining some of them might have made the reading flow smoother without pulling you out.
💔 Overall this is one of those reads that’s intense, emotional, and a little chaotic in the best way. Not perfect, but it sticks with you. If you’re into dystopian MM romance with real tension and complicated feelings, this is 100% worth it.
Swallowed By Night delivers a wonderfully addictive fusion of dystopian science fiction, vampire politics, and slow burning queer romance.
Jeremey Harrison crafts a world where salvation came with fangs, and the consequences are every bit as dangerous as you would hope. The premise alone is irresistible, but it is the dynamic between Vincent and Jude that truly drives the novel. Their relationship crackles with tension from the very beginning, balancing hostility, attraction, and vulnerability with impressive skill.
Vincent's journey from privileged captivity to painful self discovery gives the story real emotional depth. Jude serves as both adversary and catalyst, forcing Vincent to confront uncomfortable truths about his world, his family, and himself. Their evolving bond feels earned, layered, and deeply satisfying.
The worldbuilding is rich without overwhelming the romance. Harrison successfully combines political intrigue, rebellion, dystopian survival, and supernatural menace into a setting that feels dangerous, immersive, and vividly realized.
Fans of dark queer fantasy, enemies to lovers romance, and morally complex vampire stories will find plenty to love here. Swallowed By Night is atmospheric, emotionally resonant, and impossible to put down.
Glad to be done with it. I really wanted to like this because the beginning actually seemed promising, but it went downhill fast after the first few chapters. The dialogue was honestly so cringe it was hard to get through, and the pacing was a mess, everything happened way too quickly with zero sense of a timeline. The "romance" felt totally forced, and the spicy scenes just kind of popped up out of nowhere without any real buildup. I didn't find the story amazing at all, and by the end, I was just relieved to finally put it down!
A post apocalyptic future with a world of vampires vs humans. Fascinating world building. The story gets dark and violent. But I found it intriguing..Who were the real enemies?… that’s the mystery behind it all. Warning, a real tear-jerking ending…. I cried.
Thank you Jeremy for the ARC I loved this so much it's fast paced, spicy and has so many twists also Nessa must be protected at all costs and she needs a spin off
This was like the smutty MM vampire trash [complimentary] of my dreams.
I was lucky enough to beta read for this one and--Jeremey can confirm--my commentary was unhinged. This was a twisty, wild ride of a vampire thriller romance that kept me on my toes the whole time. Swallowed by night is a nostalgic nod to the dystopian and vampire romances of the early aughts (aged up, of course!)
If you like spicy vampire thrillers with some humor and spice, check this one out!
