With each unwavering action, he steadily chips away at the walls Leena’s built until she starts questioning if she can trust Julian to take care of her heart without ruining everything she’s worked for.

Dr. Julian Jacobs is scrubbing in for the most important case of his life, and Leena Cavalli may just bend her rules for the chance at true love.

Hmmm, tbh, I feel this is longer than it needs to be. I usually read this kind of instant connection in novellas that are less than 200 pages. Seeing the MCs almost in agreement about their attraction made it feel like the story was already halfway done. It just drags on past the halfway mark because the FMC was hesitant about dating in the workplace. But once she finally got on the same page, it was pretty much smooth sailing with some minor problems that felt more like a filler thrown in their way.

I'm normally a fan of insta-love in short stories because it makes sense in those kinds of books. But to see this whirlwind romance in a full-length standalone (350+) was so sweet, cheesy, unbelievable, ridiculous, and also a cringefest. 🫣😅

I even felt that Julian love-bombed the heck out of Leena, and that made me a little worried and gave me the ick. But she likes it anyway, despite her being in denial, so I guess it's still good at the end of the day. 🤷‍♀️

Overall, if readers are into stories with little to no plot and just want a palate cleanser, they could give this book a try. But don't expect much from it because, like I said, there's no real conflict or problem in the story. Also, if they're not a fan of a writing style where there's more telling than showing, then they might not enjoy the book at all. But the epilogue was charming, though. 😄

Book info:
- Insta-love
- Workplace romance
- Age gap (??? unsure, only the impression I got)
- No cheating, OM, separation
- Minor OW (not really and not encouraged, just women who couldn't take the hint he's not interested in them)
- No V (small history given, only that h had one serious bf and H was never interested in relationship because he's busy studying but he had 1 situationship when he was doing fellowship but that's it)
- HEA (8 yrs later, married, and with 2 kids)

PS. The next couple are hinted at already, so I'm going to assume they're:
Logan x Charlie —> surgeon x nurse
Jace x Quinn—> brother's best friend
Elijah x Marissa —> patient x student nurse

3.75 STARS!

This was such a solid medical romance for me.

One thing I appreciated immediately was that these characters felt like actual adults (rare I know). Leena and Julian are established in their careers, emotionally mature, and capable of having real conversations. The conflict never felt overly manufactured and the miscommunication never dragged on longer than it needed to. THANK YOU. 😂

I also really enjoyed how realistic the medical setting felt. Sometimes medical romances can feel like they're just using a hospital as wallpaper, but this one actually felt grounded in the day-to-day reality of the job, which made me more invested in both the story and the characters.

And Julian?

That man was DOWN BAD...

The way he remembered every little thing about Leena. Her coffee order. The way she blushed. The way he immediately knew she was it for him.

Sir. Please collect yourself.

Actually don't.

One of my favorite things about this book was watching how intentional he was. He wasn't playing games. He wasn't sending mixed signals. He saw what he wanted and put in the effort to pursue her. I am very much here for that energy.

I also loved the side characters. The friendships felt genuine, the family dynamics added a lot to the story... The BFF dynamic reminded me of my own fave ladies.

Why not 5 stars?

Mostly because there were a handful of moments that felt a little repetitive and some dialogue that pulled me out of the story. There were also a couple of pet names between the best friends that just didn't work for me personally. Nothing major, but enough that I noticed it...

Overall though, this was sweet, sexy, low-angst, and full of mature characters making mostly mature decisions.

Which honestly feels rare sometimes.

Quotes That Got Me
"As if I could forget anything about you."
"If I could stay away, I would. But Leena, I don't think you really want me to."
"I won't be able to let you go."
"I'm so in love with you, pretty girl."

Tropes I Loved

For all my Grey's Anatomy lovers, hello! This one was made for us.
Julian and Leena have chemistry off the rip. I mean, the tension is palpable. And to make the tension even better, the two of them end of working together. Leena has a strict no dating at work policy, for her own well being, and Julian just wants to claim her and give her the world. Will Leena give Julian a chance and break her no dating rule at work?

GUYS! I have been wanting a medical romance and Alana delivered! Let's just say it together: we all want our own Julian. That man is down bad for Leena and would do literally anything to be with her. And can we talk about the filthy, filthy mouth he has??? O.M.G. You know the fictional men written by women always hit different, and that is no exception here. I really felt like I could relate to Leena as well. She stands strong in her morals; she wants to maintain her professionalism at work and also is looking out for her own heart. I am so glad she gives Julian a chance, but you better believe she made him work for it ;)

As a nurse, I hopped at the chance to read Scrubbing In, a medical romance about a surgeon and a nurse. 👨‍⚕️❤️👩‍⚕️
I’ve got to say, I absolutely loved it. 🥰
Leena, is the head nurse of the surgical department who has built walls from being hurt in the past and questions almost everything when it comes to love. After witnessing all the gossip and issues that can come from dating coworkers firsthand, she made it one of her strict rules not to get involved with anyone at work.
Then enters Julian this tall, handsome, slightly rugged man with a beard that she meets at a coffee shop who ends up being the new surgeon at Palmetto Regional. 🏥
There’s an instant connection. Julian falls first, and he falls hard. But Leena keeps telling herself she can’t date a coworker and comes up with every reason why it wouldn’t work, self-sabotaging along the way.
But Julian 😍 Oh my Gaawwwwd! He is patient, caring, kind, and he doesn’t give up on her, not in a weird stalker way, but in the way he continuew to comfort her, taking his time and does all the little things to show her he cares and that he’s serious about wanting a relationship with her, not just getting in her pants.
But speaking of pants 👖 let me say when it comes to the spice! Whew 😉 There’s a hallway scene and a medical supply room scene that will have you biting your bottom lip. That sexy energy between them is soooooo good. 😉
Julian truly courts her and Leena finally lets those walls down and allows herself to fall in love. 😍

This book was so much fun!!

I was initially a little unsure if i would end up enjoying this book or be turned off by it. The main characters are a surgeon and an OR nurse, and seeing as ive been a scrub tech for almost 9 years and have seen workplace romances, i was hesitant. Just like Leena, ive seen how gossiped about they are and how they can sometimes become messy. But Scrubbing In did not disappoint!

The author does a great job of detailing all the little nuances of OR life, from substerile areas, supplies, and on call rooms that can easily be snuck into. The comradery and banter between the staff was beautifully depicted. It made me love and miss all those ive worked with.

The story between Julian and Leena was truly romantic, making you hope and believe that love at first sight really can exist outside of romance books (even if that is exactly what this is). Their journey together depicts how i think workplace relationships can blossom and grow, and definitely shows that they can be maintained professionally, atleast for the most part 😉.

I can see where many future stories can branch off for various standalones set in this setting and i really hope we get to see more of Palmetto Regional and its staff!

I received this book as an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so cute. I did go into this now it was insta love but I do wish that the book was set over a longer period of time. Just so we got a more understanding of how everything was playing out. I love that Julian was bringing her coffees even on days he wasn’t working. I do need to find me some more doctor x nurse romance books because this was so much fun

I was lucky enough to be able to beta and ARC read this one! This is Alana Reese's debut and I will definitely be picking up anything else she writes!

I really enjoyed Aleena and Julian's story! I thought their chemistry was fantastic! They were both just as thrown by their attraction to each other when they first met and I loved that. I felt like the medical aspect of it all was done really well, which isn't always the case in books! As someone who works in healthcare I do really appreciate that! Julian has an absolutely filthy mouth!! Also, the man was OBSESSED with Leena. I loved how patient he was with her though.

I can't wait to see what Alana comes out with next!!

Scrubbing In was one of those books that completely surprised me in the best way. As Alana Reese's debut novel, it delivered a heartfelt romance, memorable characters, and a medical setting that felt authentic and immersive from beginning to end.

The story follows Leena and Julian, and from their very first interaction, an undeniable connection between them becomes clear. While their attraction is immediate, what I appreciated most was that the romance wasn't built solely on physical chemistry. It was built on patience, consistency, trust, and the small moments that slowly brought them closer together.

Characters
Julian
Julian quickly became one of my favourite romance MMCs. He is thoughtful, attentive, patient, and completely devoted. What stood out most was how he respected Leena's boundaries while still making it clear that she was someone worth pursuing. So many romance MMCs are described as green flags, but Julian genuinely earned that title. He wasn't perfect, but he was self-aware, willing to admit when he was wrong, and constantly striving to be better.

Leena
Leena was a character I found incredibly relatable at times. She carries emotional baggage from past experiences, making her cautious in relationships. While there were moments where I wanted to lovingly shake her and tell her to just let herself be happy already, her fears felt realistic. Her struggles with vulnerability, trust, and self-worth made her journey feel authentic rather than frustrating.

Charlie
Every romance needs that one friend who tells it like it is, offers support without judgment, and secretly ships the couple harder than the readers do. Charlie was that character, and I loved every scene she appeared in.

Setting
One of my favourite aspects of this book was the hospital setting. The medical environment wasn't simply used as a backdrop—it actively influenced the story, the conflicts, and the relationships. You can tell Reese's experience in the field shines through because everything felt detailed, believable, and grounded. The workplace dynamics, hospital politics, and professional challenges added another layer to the story that I really enjoyed.

Chemistry
The chemistry between Julian and Leena was fantastic. There were so many moments that had me smiling, kicking my feet, and rooting for them. The tension was there, but so was the emotional connection. I especially loved the smaller gestures—the texts, the coffee deliveries, the thoughtful details that showed how much attention Julian paid to the things that mattered to Leena.

Overall Thoughts
I only have one critique: the push and pull of the relationship felt a little repetitive at times. I occasionally found myself wanting the story to move forward more quickly. However, the payoff was worth it because the relationship felt earned by the end.

Overall, Scrubbing In is a sweet, emotional, and swoony medical romance filled with heart. It combines workplace romance, genuine character growth, and a hero who falls hard and never looks back. If you enjoy romances with a devoted MMC, strong emotional development, realistic relationship challenges, and an authentic medical setting, I highly recommend picking this one up.

I’m so excited to see what comes next; there are so many options when it comes to the next book. Sign me up!

I LOVE Grey's Anatomy, so this book felt like it was written specifically for me.

From the very first chapter, Scrubbing In completely pulled me in and delivered everything I wanted from a medical romance. The hospital setting felt authentic, the chemistry was off the charts, and Julian Jacobs quickly became one of my favorite book boyfriends of the year.

Julian and Leena's story begins with a chance encounter at a coffee shop. The attraction is immediate, the chemistry undeniable, and for a brief moment it feels like fate may have stepped in. Unfortunately for them, they soon discover they'll be working together at Palmetto Regional Medical Center, where Leena has one very important rule: no dating coworkers.

Leena has worked hard to build her career and refuses to risk everything she's accomplished for a workplace romance, no matter how attractive the new surgeon may be. Julian, however, is absolutely determined to prove that what they have is worth the risk.

And let me tell you...

We all want our own Julian.

This man was completely and utterly down bad for Leena from the very beginning. He respected her boundaries, supported her career, communicated openly, and never stopped showing her that she was worth pursuing. Every text message, every thoughtful gesture, and every stolen moment made me fall a little more in love with him.

What I appreciated most was that their relationship wasn't built solely on physical attraction. Yes, the chemistry was incredible and the tension practically leapt off the page, but their relationship was also built on trust, patience, consistency, and emotional connection. Julian didn't simply tell Leena how he felt—he showed her over and over again.

Leena was equally wonderful. Strong, intelligent, and fiercely professional, she had valid reasons for protecting her heart. There were moments where I wanted to gently shake her and tell her to just let herself be happy already, but her fears and hesitations felt realistic. Watching her slowly learn to trust Julian made their relationship feel earned and authentic.

Another standout for me was the hospital setting. It wasn't simply a backdrop for the romance—it felt like a living, breathing part of the story. The workplace dynamics, long shifts, friendships, and hospital politics added another layer to the romance and made everything feel incredibly immersive.

I also loved the supporting cast, especially Charlie. Every great romance needs that one friend who always has your back, and Charlie was exactly that person.

One thing that really stood out to me was the mature communication throughout the story. While there were obstacles and misunderstandings, they felt realistic rather than manufactured. There was no unnecessary drama, no frustrating third-act breakup, and no endless miscommunication keeping the couple apart. Instead, we got two adults learning how to navigate a relationship while balancing demanding careers and protecting what they were building together.

And when the spice finally arrived?

Let's just say Julian's filthy mouth did not disappoint. 🔥

For a debut novel, I was incredibly impressed. Alana Reese delivered a heartfelt, swoony, emotional medical romance filled with chemistry, lovable characters, and one surgeon who absolutely deserves his place on the book boyfriend shelf.

If you love Grey's Anatomy vibes, workplace romance, surgeon x nurse pairings, flirty text banter, and heroes who fall first and never look back, Scrubbing In absolutely belongs on your TBR.

Thank you to Alana Reese and Luna Literary for the gifted ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 💜📚

**I received this as an ARC**

“I was meant to meet Leena and love her. That is why I’m on this earth. I will be thankful everyday for the joy and contentment she brings to my life.”

This was a cute story between two people, Julian and Leena, who meet in a coffee shop, there’s a strong connection shared between the two. But she’s got a lot of her own stuff so she runs before getting his number. Only to find out he’s the new surgeon who’s been hired at the hospital she is an OR nurse/supervisor at. She doesn’t do relationships with coworkers, but their connection breaks this rule into pieces.

“Despite me running repeatedly from him, he’s still shown up, been present, and chased me at a pace I was comfortable with. It’s long overdue to talk to him honestly. It’s my turn to reassure him.”

I enjoyed getting to be a part of this journey they went on finding their way to each other, but it did feel like it dragged on a bit -I have been reading more fast paced, suspense romances, so that might be playing a role in that thought process- but then skipped over a bunch of life events at the end. So that was a little disappointing, but didn’t take away from the aspects I did enjoy.

I usually don’t care for the “love at first sight” trope but this one was pretty cute and their initial connection continued to grow throughout the book. Julian’s patience and willingness to go at her pace, while still being committed to being persistent in seeing where their relationship could go was a fun addition.

“‘Aleena, take all the breaths you need. I will still be here loving you, even when it doesn’t feel so impossible that a love like this can happen so fast and be real.’”

I also loved the relationship between Leena and her best friend/coworker Charlie! The bond they share is something many strive for and it was beautiful to read. And the way she was able to accept Julian before Leena was able to even process her feelings fully, while Julian had also built his own connection/friendship with Charlie in the OR.

“‘Charlie, I don’t deserve her. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to keep trying. And if I’m lucky enough to make her mine, I will do anything to keep her.’ Pushing my shoulder, she laughs. ‘The Ortho Bro is getting sappy!’”

I’m curious to see what the author has in store for future books in this series since there seemed to be a lot of foreshadowing with different potential couples throughout the book!

Such a fun read—I couldn’t put it down!

Dr. Julian “Ian” Jacobs returns home to South Carolina for two reasons: to be closer to family and to work alongside the surgeon who inspired his career. What he doesn’t expect is for a chance encounter in a coffee shop to leave him completely captivated by a woman he can't stop thinking about.

Unfortunately for him, that woman turns out to be Aleena “Leena” Cavalli—a nurse and clinical supervisor at his new hospital who has one very important rule:

⛔ No dating coworkers.

Julian, however, is nothing if not determined. I loved watching him find thoughtful ways to show Leena that his interest goes beyond attraction while still respecting her boundaries. He falls first, falls hard, and never wavers.

The meet-cute was adorable, but what really sold this story for me was the character work. The insecurities, vulnerabilities, and personal growth from both POVs felt authentic and relatable. I also absolutely loved the friendships—especially Leena and Charlie. Their friendship gave me serious Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey energy, and Julian fit into that dynamic so naturally.

Alana also does a fantastic job introducing side characters and planting seeds for future books. There were several relationships teased throughout the story that immediately had me wondering whose book is next.

If you're looking for a medical romance with Grey's Anatomy vibes, a cinnamon roll surgeon hero, workplace tension, found family friendships, and a forbidden romance that will have you rooting for the couple from page one, definitely add this one to your TBR.

If this is the kind of writing to expect from Alana's debut, then sign me right up for ALL her future releases! Instalove and man obsessed are my literal kryptonite and Alana absolutely nailed it with Leena & Julian. I seriously COULD.NOT.GET.ENOUGH!!! 🫠

Julian and Leena's meet cute so happens to be at a coffee shop, in which sets the story in motion. Their chemistry is instant and palpable, but above all, visceral. Julian wants to know the beauty who has simply gone and upended his world, but with only first names exchanged before Leena flees, Julian has no way of finding out who she is.

Leena is committed to her nursing job at Palmetto Regional and has witnessed her fair share of workplace relationships turn messy, and wants no part of it. It's not until the mysterious stranger from the coffee shop turns up at her workplace - as the newest surgeon, that she realises she's in trouble. Julian will do anything to change Leena's strict policy of not mixing business with pleasure, but will the risk be worth it after all?

First off, can we just take a moment to appreciate Julian as the greenest flag to EVER exist? That man is pure HUSBAND material and I was SO HERE FOR IT!! 😍

Leena has been burned before and doesn't trust easily, nor does she make it easy on Julian. When someone as 'perfect' as him sets his sights on her, she is terrified of her growing feelings and what they mean. However, I loved how Julian relentlessly pursued Leena, whilst also respecting her boundaries. He was simply 10000% devoted, showing Leena time and time again that he was all in with her, and she was simply ENDGAME✨ for him.

....And Leena?? How rude that she has a man like Julian to call her own! 😏🫠🤭

Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough and you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be reading whatever Alana has next in store for us!! 💗

✨📚 4 ⭐️ | Scrubbing In by Alana Reese

This was my first book by Alana Reese, and I had such a good time with it! From the very beginning, this story pulled me in with its charm, lovable cast, and a romance that felt effortless and genuine.

Julian completely stole the show for me. There’s just something so refreshing about a hero who is secure in himself, knows what he wants, and isn’t afraid to be patient. He never felt overbearing or possessive - just steady, supportive, and deeply caring. The way he handled Leena and gave her the space she needed while still showing up for her made him such an easy character to love.

Leena was easy to root for as well, and I really appreciated that their relationship felt mature. They actually communicated (mostly like adults!), and instead of relying on unnecessary drama, the story focused on them navigating life and their feelings together. And can we talk about the lack of a frustrating third-act breakup? That alone deserves bonus points because it allowed the romance to unfold naturally and left me smiling instead of stressed.

I’m usually not an insta-love girlie, but somehow this one just worked. Their chemistry felt sweet and believable, and I found myself invested in them far quicker than I expected. Sometimes you just want a romance that makes you happy, and Scrubbing In delivered exactly that.

Another highlight was the side characters. They added so much warmth, humor, and personality to the story, making the world feel lived-in and elevating the overall reading experience. I’m definitely hoping to see more of them because they brought an extra spark to every scene they were in.

Overall, Scrubbing In was a heartwarming, low-angst romance with a patient hero, mature communication, lovable side characters, and a relationship you can simply enjoy without all the unnecessary chaos. A solid 4-star read for me, and I’ll definitely be picking up more from Alana Reese in the future.

Scrubbing In
By Alana Reese
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

I haven’t read a true contemporary romance in quite some time. I’ve been fully rollin’ with dark romance and rom-com chaos lately. So I’m really glad I took a chance on this one because it was exactly what I needed.

This honestly felt like a drama-light love story between two mature adults who genuinely fell hard for each other. Sure, there were challenges, but they were real-world challenges. Miscommunication wasn’t driving the plot every five seconds. Nobody was manufacturing chaos just to hit a breakup quota. It was mostly navigating workplace gossip, protecting careers, and figuring out how to love each other without letting outside noise ruin it.

And Julian? Yeah. He has #BookBoyfriend written all over him. Unfortunately for the rest of us, he belongs to Leena. Rude.

Leena definitely got in her own head at times and had a few mini spirals, but honestly? Relatable. Most of us have been burned before and know what it feels like to want to protect our hearts, even when someone seems too good to be true. And the way she handled that text message situation? Perfection. No unnecessary dramatics. No jumping to conclusions. She trusted what she knew about him instead of letting fear and gossip take over.

Also, Julian consistently makes sure she never has a reason to feel jealous. Massive green flag energy.

I will say he had a few overly protective moments that leaned yellow-flag for me, but thankfully, it felt like growth happened there over time rather than being romanticized.

If you want:
✔️ mature romance
✔️ supportive relationship dynamics
✔️ workplace tension/gossip
✔️ spice without overwhelming the plot
✔️ NO third-act breakup

…then definitely pick this one up. Highly recommend.

Thank you to Luna Literary Management for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5

This was my first medical romance, and it’s definitely not going to be my last ♥️🩺

I went into this not really knowing what to expect, but I ended up having such a good time with it.

The chemistry between Julian & Aleena was amazing from the start. There was so much tension, banter, and attraction that I was immediately invested in their story.

I also loved seeing them balance their personal feelings with the pressure of their careers. It made the relationship feel more realistic because their lives didn’t suddenly stop revolving around work the moment they caught feelings.

And Julian???
This man was DOWN BAD 😭
The way he fell for Leena almost immediately and then spent the rest of the book trying to convince her to give him a chance had me smiling the entire time.

But I also loved that the romance wasn’t all smooth sailing. They had misunderstandings, work conflicts, and moments where they genuinely had to learn how to communicate with each other.

Aside from the sizzling chemistry between Julian and Aleena, the character of Charlie was written so well. She was easily one of my favourites.
Charlie was the loyal, protective best friend everyone deserves, always trying to make Aleena smile and giving her the best advice when she needed it most.

The hospital setting added so much to the story too. It wasn’t just there as a backdrop. The long shifts, stressful situations, workplace politics, and friendships all made the world feel real.

The only reason this wasn’t a full 5 ⭐ for me is because the story felt a little repetitive in some places. There were moments where I felt like we were going in circles before moving the plot forward again.

But overall, I had a great time with this one, and it definitely won’t be my last venture into the world of medical romances. 🩺♥️

As a lifelong Grey’s Anatomy girlie, this book had my name written all over it.
Scrubbing In gave me everything I want in a medical romance: hospital drama, undeniable chemistry, workplace tension, and a hero who falls first and falls HARD.
Leena is focused on her career and refuses to let anything jeopardize everything she’s worked for. Enter Julian Jacobs—the charming surgeon who immediately decides she's worth breaking through every wall she’s built around her heart.
And Julian? Top-tier book boyfriend material.
What I loved most was that this romance wasn't built on attraction alone. The connection between them felt genuine. Julian showed up consistently, respected Leena's boundaries, supported her ambitions, and somehow managed to be both incredibly sweet and ridiculously swoony at the same time.
The hospital setting felt immersive without overwhelming the romance, and I loved seeing the realities of demanding medical careers woven into their relationship. The side characters added so much life to the story, and the friendships felt just as meaningful as the romance itself.
Also, can we normalize heroes who communicate? Because the mature communication in this book was SO refreshing. No unnecessary drama. No frustrating games. Just two people figuring things out while balancing complicated careers and growing feelings.
And when the tension finally breaks? 🔥🥵
For a debut novel, I was seriously impressed. If you love medical romances, workplace tension, heroes who are completely gone for their woman, and major Grey's Anatomy vibes, add this one to your TBR immediately.

Vanilla breve latte, extra shot

Overview
Registered nurse, Leena, has boundaries, and not getting into a workplace relationship is one of them.

When a chance encounter leaves ortho god, Julian, wanting more, he's delighted to find that Leena is well within his reach.

Will Leena stay true to her rules or follow her heart?

The Verdict
Scrubbing In dropped into my inbox at the right time. It was absolutely everything I needed and didn't know I wanted.

Julian is the newest member of the ‘book boyfriend club’. He knows what he wants, but is so respectful of Leena’s wants/needs.

Since their eyes first met, the chemistry between Julian and Leena was swoon-worthy, and throughout the entire book the communication was *chef’s kiss* perfection 👨‍🍳👌

When we FINALLY got to the spice, it was hot, hot, hot! Can we give a round of applause for Julian being a giving lover?

Where Scrubbing In lost a star for me, may be a controversial one. I just could not fathom the height difference! There were times during intimate scenes where I could not visualise the logistics unless she was all torso and no legs, or he was hunched on top of her like Gollum finding his ring.

I still cannot believe this is Alana Reese’s debut novel. It was so fantastic and I cannot WAIT for the rest of the series. Will it be about Julian's best friend or Leena’s best friend? I can hardly wait!!

Such a well done indie debut!

Alana is an OR nurse and is such a sweetheart. She’s amazing at her job but has a strict rule of no dating co workers. Julian accidentally meets Alana at a coffee shop and the attraction is instant. Neither of them are aware that the new doctor coming to Alana’s workplace is Julian. Do they have a chance at life together?

🩺 As a lover of STEM romances, I was such a fan of the leads and their workplace stories. This is my first book in an OR setting and I loved learning about how procedures are carried out. Kudos to the author for seamlessly blending her previous work experience as an OR nurse to the story.

🩺 The chemistry and romance between the leads were also very touching. Julian, in spite of several uncomfortable situations, is such a gentleman and I appreciated it a lot. He’s a man so much in love and I loved it! Down bad gentleman’s are the best! Loved how they gave each other assurance and space to grow and build something together!

🩺 Another major thing I appreciated was how supportive and kind both families and respective friends are. I’ve actually been tired of reading traumatic family experiences, toxic and jealous side characters in romances (though these are real situations in life) so the family dynamics were so refreshing to read! A story where the main leads actually have spotlight to themselves rather than unnecessary drama from families.

Such a well written debut so much so it’s hard to say it’s a debut! STEM romance fans, don’t miss this! 😍

Initially I totally picked up the ARC for this book all because I love medical romances and never really get to explore them. This one definitely gave me all my Grey's Anatomy vibes but let's swap Derek for Link the gorgeous Ortho God.

Julian and Leena both are caught with the immediate want and interest in each other from their moments at the coffee shop which swiftly the breaks are pumped on the next day when the new surgeon she meets...... is Julian himself. Leena is all about not dating her co-workers and Julian isn't about to give up the chase. Julian is brave and bold in his approach and not afraid to take the chance. Leena is much more cautious and unsure of her feelings. I love the differences between them. I'm not a super fan of insta love but in reality? Love at first sight sometimes just happens for people who have that immediate chemistry. When you know, you know. Their developing relationship over the course of the story I thought was really sweet and Julian is never to pushy or forceful but also pretty supportive and expressive in Leena's choices but also how he feels. I love seeing the balance between the work and personal moments they have to take to be together and also the obstacles they do end up having and how they are managed.

If you want a cute story that shows a bit of the lucky reality that people get and revel in their adorable sparks at first stumble then I'd recommend giving this one a chance. Medical romance, Greys Anatomy vibes, surgeon x nurse romance and of course the bond that two female best friends have together that is just soul deep take a leap and check out the story.

Okay, here I am again, falling in love with another perfect book boyfriend. Julian... I don't even know what to say about this man. He is a man who falls harder and harder for Leena, and I literally wanted to scream. Does a man like this actually exist? A man who patiently waits for his girl, gives her time to realize her feelings, allows her to make the first move, helps her face reality, and supports her as she overcomes her fear of workplace gossip? Of course, Julian is capable of all that.

Leena struggles with her feelings for Julian. She's terrified of workplace romances and the gossip that comes with them, yet she can't stop herself from falling for him. After her ex-boyfriend left her with relationship trauma, she meets Julian, a newly recruited surgeon at her hospital, and falls for him almost instantly while battling those feelings at the same time.

And their height difference??? Oh my God. Plus, the hookups.

Scrubbing In is a contemporary medical romance between Julian, a newly appointed surgeon at Palmetto Regional Medical Center who has returned to his hometown to be closer to his family, and Leena, a nurse at the same medical center whom he unexpectedly meets at a coffee shop.

This was my very first medical romance, and it exceeded my expectations more than I ever imagined. The chemistry between them, the communication, Julian's understanding and patience toward Leena, and most importantly, the way they balance their feelings with their careers. It was all so well done.

This is a romance between two adults who genuinely care for each other and build a relationship based on trust, understanding, and respect.

Scrubbing In Review 🩺🏥

I received an ARC of this book, so I want to thank Alana Reese and Luna Literary for sending it to me!

What a great surprise this book was for me! I don’t remember ever reading a book where both characters worked in the same hospital, and as a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan, I was really excited for it. And it did not disappoint.

Do you believe in love at first sight? Or at least a connection at first sight? Julian didn’t, but after meeting Leena, he couldn’t explain what he felt toward her. He just knew he wanted to get to know her better and spend more time with her.

Leena was just as affected by their first encounter. She felt an instant connection with the mysterious and handsome man she met briefly, sharing only a short conversation but an undeniable attraction.

But when she discovers that he is the new surgeon at the hospital where she works, she knows things have become much more complicated.

I loved this book. Leena is a badass nurse and an amazing friend. She is instantly attracted to Julian, but she doesn’t want to get involved with someone she works with. She knows how easily things can become messy, but the chemistry between them is impossible to ignore.

Julian was such a wonderful surprise. He is caring, funny, optimistic, and determined. He knows there could be something special between him and Leena, and he isn’t afraid to pursue her and show her just how good they could be together.

And good they are. They are passionate, sweet, supportive, and completely irresistible together.

This was such a great read, and it definitely deserves 5 stars from me. 🩺🏥

DNF-ing for now at 78% because I'm frustrated. It was fun to read a medical romance that was in the hospital setting (though light on actual medicine, mostly just for scenery and characters), but it's gotten repetitive, and as of now there is no conflict to move the plot forward. They're keeping the relationship a secret in the workplace, but that's not even causing an issue, and every character is a sort of vaudeville caricature rendering.

Might come back and finish later when I'm not feeling pissy, I may be feeling more generous.

Julian falls for Leena, quite literally. A collision course in more than one way, Scrubbing In is about an orthopedic surgeon and an OR nurse who have a chance encounter at a coffee shop, only to later find out that they’re about to be coworkers. Leena has a strict “no sh*ting where you eat” policy. Julian has it down bad for Leena, and only time will tell if they can keep it professional.

I’m a nurse who sort of met their spouse (another nurse) on the job, so of course Scrubbing In peaked my interest. Scrubbing In is an addictive, “Grey’s Anatomy”-esque forbidden/workplace romance that has that intense, push and pull tension chemistry that makes for a great romance. Scrubbing In is like if Grey’s Anatomy was on HBO. It has spice, drama, medical stuff for us healthcare nerds like me, and of course, romance.

The feelings are well written, Julian doesn’t feel predatory like some MMCs do in a position of authority do. Julian is absolutely lovestruck and has no problem going to bat for Leena to make sure she feels safe with him and protect her reputation. Leena has all the control in the dynamic, which is refreshing.

My favorite love story in Scrubbing In? The friendship that Leena has with her bestie, Charlie. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Leena and Julian, but the friendship between Leena and Charlie is unmatched. Every story needs a Charlie, loyal, hilarious, and supportive bestie.

I really wanted to like Scrubbing In, but unfortunately it just didn’t work for me.

The romance felt very insta-lust driven, and that seemed to carry a lot of the story. For the first 40% of the book, the FMC felt unnecessarily hard to get. When she finally gives in around the halfway mark, she still isn’t fully committed and comes across as wanting the benefits of the relationship without fully investing in it.

Julian also wasn’t particularly appealing to me as a love interest. He was all-in from the start, but at times his behavior felt a little love-bomby. He also had several emotional outbursts that I found more off-putting than romantic. Because of that, I struggled to buy into their relationship and had to push myself to finish the book.

The story itself felt underdeveloped. There were hints throughout the book about relationships and situations involving side characters, but these eventually became a major plot point around the 70% mark and led to a significant miscommunication. The issue was that the setup felt weak—I felt like the author had to explicitly explain things to the reader afterward rather than letting the earlier hints speak for themselves.

Overall, I had a hard time connecting with both the characters and the romance, and the story never fully came together for me.

This was an arc read for me, and I throughly enjoyed this story! I worked in the medical field and seen/experienced so many things that were described in this book in regard to workplace romances, affairs, and chance encounters.
Julian and Leena’s story is truly one of passion, determination, patience, compromise, and being at a coffee shop at the right time! I love how the author describes the intense/uncertainty one can feel when deciding to take a risk to trust and love someone. Being vulnerable is not easy. The internal dialogue the characters experienced were realistic and accurate. The influence/dynamics of family and friends playing a role in relationships too, and the author included it in the story.
The spicy and the yearning was giving, caliente!!! The passion was definitely there from the jump!
I currently work as the head of the HR department, and I know the effects of relationships going wrong. It cause disruption in operations, and hostile environment. When dealing with patients being keen, and mentally sound is VITAL! One mistake can cause you everything, to include the patient’s life!
This book reinforces that obstacles can be overcome by simply communicating and being honest. The way this story ended was beautiful.
Alana Reese I loved this story more than you know!

Scrubbing In was HOT, HOT, HOT! 🔥

I was hooked from the moment Julian and Leena met. The chemistry between them was immediate and impossible to ignore, but what I loved most was that their relationship didn't rely solely on attraction. Watching their connection deepen and their feelings grow made the romance even more satisfying.

Julian completely stole my heart from the very beginning. He was patient, supportive, and respected Leena's boundaries every step of the way. The way he let her set the pace while consistently showing up for her made him the ultimate green flag hero. He reminded me of my husband, we had the greatest meet cute with instant attraction 😍

I also enjoyed seeing Leena's personal growth throughout the story. She felt relatable, and it was easy to root for her as she navigated both her career and her feelings. The hospital setting added an extra layer of excitement, and the tension between the characters kept me turning pages.

For a debut novel, Alana Reese absolutely delivered. The romance was swoony, the chemistry was sizzling, and the characters kept me invested from start to finish.

If you love workplace romance, espically with a hospital scene, plenty of steam, and a hero who treats his love interest with patience and respect, definitely add this one to your TBR!

"Then I walked into that coffee shop and everything titled on its axis. It feels like my world spins for you now."

This was a romance set in the medical field, specifically in the OR, between a surgeon and a nurse. There is tension for Leena, the FMC, as she struggles with the workplace romance aspect. It is a contemporary romance, with mature relationship goals and struggles. The chemistry is there and the spice, albeit a slow burn, was spicy!!

It was fun to watch a romance set in an entirely different setting than I'd experienced before. I found the dynamic between the characters and their workplace fascinating. I also may have wanted to shake Leena a few times to get her head on straight and get over her fears. Julian, the MMC, seemed like the perfect catch and I just wanted that HEA!

I think that this will make a great series and I already have some ideas on future couplings! And you have to love the FMC's best friend Charlie who right off the bat stated "Bad B&tches don't care what people say about them. And we are bad b&tches." I can't wait to see what is in store for everyone!

I enjoyed reading this steamy romance between Julian and Leena. They were attracted right away towards each other. Love the friendshp between Leena and her roomate, Charlie. It started off with them meeting at a coffee place and Julian didn't get the chance to give his number to Leena. Both were a bit sad that they miss that chance. Then met again at their work place! He's a doctor, and she's a nurse supervisor. While Julian doesn't mind to pursue the relationship, Leena stalls it due to not wanting it affect their work environment. She doesn't like to be gossiped about her coworkers and be dragged into the drama that she has seen there. Julian also has his own issues at work mostly involving a woman or two flirting and crossing the line.

Anyhow, the steam was off the hooks, I love the dirty talk and more, I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars. I would have loved to see a bit more, more with Leena leading/instigating it.
Overall this was a great read. I just didn't like the miscommunication between the characters. I'm still confused as to why the author named Julian Ian, if he goes by Julian and that was never explained. The cover doesn't do the book justice, but that's just a minor flaw in my opinion.

I received this as an Advanced Reader's Copy and my opinion is honest.

I love a good work place romance and through in a medical romance at that and I'm in!
It's rare to find a book that has love at first sight described so well that comes across to the reader as believable and not some far fetched notion.

I loved the MC's! They were well established adults who are emotionally mature and know what they want especially Julian! Give that man a bells! He knows what he want and isn't afraid to go after it. I love how Aleena's uncertainty about a workplace romance is portrayed so amazingly. Her doubts and fears (including her insecurities) is what made her very relatable.

The fact that the medical jargon was on point and was brought in seamlessly to blend with the story, not just making it by the way reference.

This story was humorous, spicy and sweet. The serendipitous meet cute of the MC's are almost magical and how everything falls into place for them is even better!

I did feel the book a bit lengthy, which could have been avoided and I was expecting some kind of hiccup/twist to make things even more interesting but was a little disappointed when it wasn't there.
This book is for a=those who love :

-workplace romance
