Darkness Calls: CLAIMED

Rate this book
Darkness Claimed is a work of dark fantasy inspired by vivid dreams, recurring visions, and the emotional landscapes of memory. Drawing from the shadows of birth and childhood, it explores a world where the supernatural feels close enough to breathe down your neck. These are not campfire stories or borrowed legends, but imagined hauntings shaped by fear, intuition, and the questions we carry before we know how to name them. Woven with mystery and horror, the story examines how early encounters with the unseen can leave a mark, how belief and imagination blur, and how the weight of those visions can shape the person who carries them long before they understand what that weight means.

So I am never one to discount someone's experiences or beliefs. We all have things that happen to us that we interpret a certain way. I also fully believe that there are things out there that cannot be explained - whether it be hauntings, spirits or demons. While I can't say with fact that I have ever experienced situations like this, I am also not quick to say they are all false.

This book is one man's life experiences from a young age from what he believes happened to him. Reading through it, it is very traumatizing and I think everyone can agree that Evans had a not quite so happy childhood, and those traumas have followed him into his adult life. Evans is very descriptive in his retellings - everything is extremely vivid, recalling on memories from early as 3 years old. I don't really remember anything vividly from 3 years old, but I also did not suffer anything traumatic that would have stayed with me.

As short stories, they are interesting and well written, if not a little flowery in their descriptions. But one does have to question if the demons lurking behind the closet doors aren't the adults who perpetrated SA and not actual demons. Is this a child who suffers from extreme night terrors or is the veil between worlds really opening for him? I will say, this book only covers about the first 10 years of his life and if all this were to happen to me as a child, I don't know how I would be a functioning member of society today.
